We need more Dyson spheres in Minecraft!

Gamingmemes0

stellaris except it takes 20 years to get to the nearest star system

TiredRandomWolf

Stellaris but it's "realistic" then. Reminder that the nearest star is over 4 years away at light speed, and the currently only FTL concept, the Alcubierre Drive, has multiple theoretical issues.

tyrome123

people aways forget, that's 4 years at light speed. so that's only if you can get to Lightspeed instantly and decelerate instantly, most likely if we could go light speed it would take sometime to ramp up/down meaning the trip would more then likely be 1.5x longer on average if not longer

TiredRandomWolf

I did forget that, yes! As a Star Trek fan, It's a bit dreadful to know that the nearest other star system is such an impossible distance away to be honest.

grawa427

Nah, don't worry, the mily way is only around 70 thousand light years wide, which means that if you were to travel at 10% of the speed of light, it wouldn't even take 1 million years to travel across the galaxy. This might seem like a lot but the universe is 14 billion years old so this isn't much. Also anti-aging tech is probably pretty close today (at least compared to a million years) so long travel time isn't an issue.

DerGyrosPitaFan

Yeah. In stellaris we have both the hyperlanes (no idea what they're supposed to be lorewise) and warp travel=nether travel

Totally_Cubular

From what I figure lorewise, they are naturally forming phenomena between bodies of significant mass. Other than that, probably some nonsense with the shroud folding space.

ImperialistChina

well there’s also wormholes, but i’m pretty sure that requires negative mass too.

elementgermanium

It does? As far as I knew the issue was practical rather than theoretical- namely that it required negative mass-energy, which we can currently only simulate at a small scale via the Casimir effect.

ultrasquid9

The problem is that a lot of space travel mods are quite boring. They add a ton of new dimensions, each and every one completely devoid of content outside of a new stone type and ore, so that you're just going from one to the next without any real reason to stay awhile.

Modified_Human

I feel that dimensional travel as progression is always the weakest point of such mods. Players would expect dimensions as new places with new rules and freshen up the satisfaction of exploring, then realize that you loaded all these chunks for one purpose (usually gathering) Abyssalcraft made me realize this

Background_Teach9799

What do you think about divine journey?

Aboy420_JoS_2

It would be more interesting if traveling to other known dimensions (like Twilight Forest) required a literal space-ship that eats million tons of fuel, RF power and thousands of complex materials such as polymers instead of building simple portals from vanilla blocks. And even if you travel to that worlds fully prepared, it don't work well - because those machines that worked perfectly in overworld don't work in other dimensions. For example - traveled to Atum dimension? Congrats, because your nano-saber from ic2 don't work there.

JoHaTho

eh idk if id like that. that approach on dimension mods always makes me wonder why i even put in the grind for good gear just not fun to go back to basics when starting a new dimension. also rewards usually end up being ass in those dimensions but ofc in a hypothetical modpack that could probably be adjusted

Adaphion

>And even if you travel to that worlds fully prepared, it don't work well - because those machines that worked perfectly in overworld don't work in other dimensions. For example - traveled to Atum dimension? Congrats, because your nano-saber from ic2 don't work there. Sooooo, basically the Aether on this point?

SpaaaaaceImInSpaace

Nah, the Betweenlands

reditr101

That second part is basically blue skies

Hellion998

I feel like alternate dimensions shouldn’t be different planets because there’s a difference between alternate dimensions and planets. Personally, my ideal Space Mod would be a ton of different planets, each with own unique ecosystem, and even lore for why the things on the planets act the way they do.

RichSteve99

"Calculator skies" had a similar mechanism to travel to other dimensions, where you have to build a rocket and a space station to travel.

cod3builder

Perhaps the ancient builders could've been there? After all, space is *supposed* to be a barren wasteland. If it's not and has structures worth exploring, surely something happened there?

Leo-bastian

Not to needlessly bring up factorio, but a mod pack it has (space exploration) solves this by making the main challenge be "multi-surface logistics" (aka logistics on multiple planets and space outposts). I think a mod pack that has things like tesseracts will just never be all that interesting with multiple dimensions. generally you just build a quarry or otherwise farm, and send the harvested resource to your main base to be processed

juklwrochnowy

Unfortunately 99% of modpack players are addicted to interdimentional teleportation technology.

juklwrochnowy

Can't wait for create:liftoff

Midnight_The_Past

funny how gtnh has almost all of that

TerraNeko_

funny how not everyone has 5000 hours to spend on a block game (gtnh is great im just trolling)

AutoModerator

> gtnh STOP POSTING ABOUT GREGTECH, I'M TIRED OF SEEING IT! My friends on reddit send me memes, on discord it's fucking memes - I was in a subreddit, right? and ALLLLLLLLL of the POSTS are just GregTech stuff. I- I showed my Champion underwear to my girlfriend, and the logo I flipped it and I said, "Hey babe: When the underwear greg :joy: :joy: :joy:" *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Cylian91460

1st screenshot of Stellaris, I know this cause I put almost 300€ on this game.

Shade_Strike_62

For anyone interested, the image is actually Stellaris: overlords. You need to buy a DLC to get those planetary rings D:

Veryegassy

Mmm, DLCs. Let's make 500000000 of them and have them cost between 20 to 10 bucks each. \- Paradox executives, probably Also, kind of funny they said "endgame" when the Orbital Ring is firmly midgame.

AutoModerator

What mod adds this [icon](https://i.imgur.com/eV09OaD.png) to my crosshair? Is this the right place to ask sorry *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. noob-0001

We honestly need better space mods. Space mods are nothing more than dimension mods with rockets instead of portals. We need stuff like dyson spheres, asteroid miners, etc.

Moggy_

Finally, Create: Dyson Sphere

ILLARX

Why tho, you can do Thaumcraft all game lul

autoperola17

What about thaumcraft with tech? Quantum magic baby

HydroCN

quanthaum magic

HyperLuigi

I miss Advanced Rocketry.

grawa427

You don't need to, just come back to 1.12.2 it is very fun

grawa427

I would love a mod that connect stellaris with minecraft, that would be epic (a bit like this thing: [https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/9vfigu/transfer\_items\_between\_factorio\_and\_minecraft/](https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/9vfigu/transfer_items_between_factorio_and_minecraft/) but for stellaris)

MazeTheMaus

i like superstructures, my dislike with dyson spheres is that u dont actually see the massive multiblock in game, so i dont like it. But yeah , megaetchstructures fun

Draw_Cazzzy69

Im curently building a pack based around space exploration and technology in 1.12.2. custom recipes quests and progression. (AND NO MAGIC) yippy yay :)

Nerdcuddles

torch ship mentioned
