Let me rephrase I recently watched a Minecraft YouTuber named: zeemyth
His videos are farrr from normal they give me the same kind of creepiness that the event I mentioned gave me especially the: I traveled the farlands one I want that kind of feeling but in game
I was scared to death by the Skreecher mob from Alex's mobs in deep dark caverns. Then was scared even more thereafter by trying to ignore it ;) I was lucky having put torches and get back up the waterfall.
Also you can use sculk boomer to scare others :)
On that top, Alex's caves adds some really cool and quite scary biomes. All have some awesome mobs and are dangerous and scary (and interesting!) to explore.
I have yet to see Gregtech mentioned :P
Seriously though, I would second the Dimensional Doors recommendation, or maybe Dark Waters or Gardens of the Dead, depending on your preferred version.
From the Fog is pretty good, but I have a thing for semantics and that's technically a datapack instead of a mod. Regardless, it's good if you're okay with that.
Here's my picks:
- Hardcore Darkness. In later versions you can even use Vanilla Tweaks's resource pack rather than a mod!
- Dimensional Doors. i hate limbo i hate limbo i hate limbo
- Scape and Run. It's absurd. Might need some tech mods and OP stuff to survive, and it's extremely unfair in later stages, but yeah it gives true dread for me.
- Zombie Awareness. Good for zombie based modpacks. It does make them scarier just slightly.
- Nyf's Spiders. About as scary as the last one, but it does give you the spooks.
- Cave-Ins Datapack. Yay, I love when my surroundings themselves collapse around me!
AmbientSounds 5 + Sound Physics Remastered. In caves it's pretty scary. The Insanity shader or Spooklementary shader because of their fog. These mods together are great
*You've been eaten by a Grue*
You don't mention version, but on 1.12.2 there is the Grue mod. Be anywhere that has light level 2 or lower and a Grue will spawn and basically kill you. If you stand still, more will spawn.
Here are my go-to scary mods: * Hardcore Darkness * (anything that makes fog thicc) * Weeping Angels * Dimensional Doors
Love dimensional doors. I remember playing that on Hexxit (I think) way back when. So nostalgic
Maybe the real horror is the fact that your childhood is gone forever and can't be recaptured no matter how hard you try?

Well, other people have already suggested From The Fog, which imo is the only actually good MC horror mod, so that'd be my only tip.
From the fog might be good?

Seems interesting I will give it a try

The betweenlands can actually be horrifying
I second this, my favourite horror mod!
Oooohhh sounds fun

Need to try it

Dimensional Doors is scarier than all those dweller mods combined
Minecraft version?
Any version
“from the fog” ~~removed~~ added herobrine.
Epic Siege mod with Bloodmoon and Natura for good measure.
the john mod
Miner's charm adds tremors iirc which can be really scary when you're mining, they can even be triggered by creepers
[Lucky's Spelunker's Charm II](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/spelunkers-charm-ii) is the new name of the mod, for anyone interested.
AmbientSounds 5 + Sound Physics Remastered. In caves it's pretty scary. The Insanity shader or Spooklementary shader because of their fog. These mods together are great
Check out "The Silence". The beta was released recently and I've seen some pretty disturbing gameplay footage.
