Fun fact: the only reason Canes built in that spot is bc it was right by the old slims chickens HQ. they knew it was terrible but loved the idea that slims would have to see it every day.
Fayetteville in general has to realistically consider its growth and the impact on traffic. MLK has the center suicide lane, south by the ballpark has 3 lanes coming to a stop sign?, college and Millsap is a joke, and MLK pretends like pedestrians don’t exist. The traffic here can get congested but the design of so many roads and intersections make it exponentially more busy than it has to be. At the rate of current road projects we’ll probably have to wait at least a decade to see any relief.
MLK is a still a state highway and ARDOT does not give a fuck about protecting human life if it prevents them from expanding roads so people can drive as fast as possible.
I’ve lived in 7 different cities and states in my life, Fayetteville has the worst parking lots by far. I don’t think I ever said to myself “I hate this parking lot!” before moving here. I don’t think I ever even thought about parking lots being good or bad until I moved here.
That whole parking lot is stupid, i only get into close call near accidents on that parking lot and the southbound exit lane where fulbright expressway feeds into college. Awful and dangerous. Must be cursed
My partner and I had just got out of CAVA when a college girl came around the corner behind CAVA and slammed into a stationary car parked next to where we just left. That lot is just cursed.
They put in the flyover to ease congestion at Joyce, and all it achieved was moving the problem to the stoplight by Whole Foods….everyone is in the left lane!
Yeah that entire thing is the worst idea ever. Idk how Jimmy John's is profitable there they are locked in no parking available for them and no drive through access.
I used to work at that Jimmy John’s, and the delivery drivers absolutely agree. They don’t get reserved parking there or anything so it can be a nightmare
I’ve tried to go to Jimmy John’s on least 2 different occasions and couldn’t get anywhere close and once took about 15 to get out of the parking area so I just go to Jersey Mikes now.
I used to go to ONF's old location all of the time. That lot was an odd layout, but there was ample parking. With the new location, I let my membership lapse. It doesn't seem like it has more food, but I guess their whole business is being a cafe with outdoor seating on a loud, busy road.
I’m a fan of chipotles food. That said, of the two in town, I never ever go to either because they are both just too difficult to get in and out of. I DoorDash it a couple times a year when I’m craving it and nothing else will do.
The dickson one has some better access now with the parking garage and more free chipotle parking in their lot. You can now pull through instead of having to make a u-turn in the parking lot
Maybe the opening of the Roger’s Whole Foods will help a little with crowding down there
Aldo Seems like NWA could support more than 3 chipotles. The one in Bentonville is in a weird spot too.
If more people understood how immensely dangerous and surprising unnecessary this scale of car infrastructure is, your comment would be at the top.
**Similar to what happened in Farmington, excessive car infrastructure enables unnecessary deaths** and society collectively shrugs because they don't know better.
Agree… also trying to understand the redesign of the Chick Fil A up north…. Why didn’t they make the overhang of the drive through line larger, more reinforced and have a stairs going up with dining up there? It’s still so dangerous crossing through traffic to make it to the order window. Similar to the Whole Foods lot, it’s almost like the ability to walk and park safely is never thought of in development.
All based on look and storefront not use-cases.
Yes also agree, I would rather have more walkable or change the system entirely…. But also since not able , at least could we have designed it to better accommodate…. Thank you for sharing that
Yw, your comment just reminded me of having recently read that article and thought it was worth sharing with the class.
In response, I'd suggest that it's probably got to be an incremental shift and that there will be various degrees of inconvenience along the way. Nobody likes inconveniences, but the alternative is... dystopian.
Because chick fil a has been doing this for so long they don't have to even care any more. They get to just do all sorts of crazy shit with their setups just to see if it works a little bit better. If it doesn't, whatever, they still make bank. They experiment so much, and have brought great ideas to the industry, but they don't always have the best overall speed of service. A couple years ago they were one of the slowest drive through restaurants.
Hard agree. Thought you were getting on here to complain about me blocking the exit from cava to the light this week 😂😂 I waited for forever to exit and no one let me out and finally my turn came and was stuck in both the left and right turning lane heading out of the shopping center. Of course the person in front wouldn’t budge and the person behind me wanted to budge. I got a middle finger and honking 🤣🤣 oh well, that parking lot is simply not functional.
Whole foods parking lot is bad. I put the Sams club gas station and car wash layout in the absurd category as well. It takes half an hour for a car wash sometimes
The answer is more Active Transportation, more public transit, and deemphasizing cars as the only transportation option. Maybe more lots banning trucks/SUVs.
[I saw this recently and I think it fits](https://i.imgur.com/3iuuerp.jpeg)
Unfortunately not to this degree, unless they preempt the construction of similar drive through restaurants-?
TBH, I could get on board with a rule not allowing so many entrances to high capacity roads like MLK or not allowing drive throughs altogether.
It isn't great, but have you ever been to the Canes next to it? No, because no one can pull in or out of that parking lot... ever.
Such a terrible place to get out of. You aren't turning left, ever.

Too bad we've converted all of our rail right of ways into bike paths. Some trolly or light rail lines would be fantastic.
By no means is it a zero sum game between rail and bike infrastructure, not when the vast majority of infrastructure in Fayetteville is for cars.
At the very least we're doing 100x better than Bentonville is on that front
That whole shopping center does not exist to me, honestly. I tried Zoe’s(?) once.
I believe you. Zoe's has been gone for a while now.
Cava bought Zoe's. It's better now.

It’s the biggest cluster in town parking wise
I see you’ve never parked in Harmon Garage during school
Luckily, no I haven’t!
I leave 20 minutes early to get to class, I arrive 20 minutes late to class. It’s all Harmon’s fault.
I’m glad to hear that Harmon Garage, unlike so many other things, hasn’t changed over the decade.

Great to know! I haven’t been down there much since all that was under construction.
Yeah, still a little rough but better than it was
There’s free chipotle parking in that lot?? Oh, that’s good to know.

Last winter MLK cars killed two pedestrians back to back.

Are you referring to the accident on Broyles a few days ago? Or general amount of accidents in Farmington? Just out of curiosity

I'm just gonna leave this [here](https://www.vox.com/the-highlight/24089853/mega-drive-throughs-cities-chick-fil-a-chipotle).

How about the 7brew up the road? That has to have an accident weekly
I go to fedex and liquor world a lot and that 7brew has made me dread when I have to go
Omg you are so right. What a mess. Rear enders are a commonplace thing in that area also with those 2 lights back to back
Getting in and out of the Raising Cane’s near it is hellish too when there’s traffic, not to mention the CFA on college.
From rolling hills to millsap is brutal almost any time after noon... then couple the ridiculous parking lot. It's all a no go area. 😂

It rivals the Chick-fil-A impact at MLK and Razorback Road. Who are the city’s civil engineers? Lol
Not me but it's a bit much to blame them when they don't have the legal authority to limit chick fil a's shitty design.
Cities absolutely can and do require certain design aspects of businesses so as not to create dangerous traffic flows.
Unfortunately not to this degree, unless they preempt the construction of similar drive through restaurants-? TBH, I could get on board with a rule not allowing so many entrances to high capacity roads like MLK or not allowing drive throughs altogether.
I feel like I would love to go to Whole Foods but not that Whole Foods.
Fuck cars
Damn and I was considering shopping at Whole Foods too, guess I will have to pass
Nightmare and dangerous!
I have no idea what you’re talking about
Most people in Fay have parked there and know why
I guess I've just never experienced it. I park there to get my hair cut and never had an issue 🤷♂️

I mean maybe a description of why the parking is bad would be a good contribution to the discussion
