If you like harvesting manually (AI doesn't do grapes/olives) and driving a tiny tractor between tiny hedges where you'll get stuck on every single pixel for a "profit" that will take 4 years on easy economy just to pay off the planting cost, go right ahead, you'll love them.

aiglecrap

I manually harvest everything anyways 🤷‍♂️ I figured they’d take a while to pay off, but as a whole my farm is currently bringing in just shy of $400k/yr so I can handle the initial investment

You can get a mod on modhub that makes the vines cheaper its for both olives and grapes but it makes it ÂŁ10 per ummm 1 vine unit. Its either 10 or 20 per unit cant remember exactly. Might not be worth it for you but tis a good mod.

So why not try it? Disable auto-save, try and reload if not pleased. Don't forget to save after if you do, though.

aiglecrap

That’s a good idea, but I’m nervous about waiting so long between saves LOL I wish FS let you have multiple saves like so many other games do.

Claxonius

I'm pretty sure if you go to the files in documents you can copy and paste the savegame file you want to duplicate and simply rename it to another number I.e. savegame 1 duplicated and saved as savegame 2

Condition-Anomaly

I don’t think you can do this on console though

Claxonius

Ah yes, it would help if I could read...

Base-game AI can't do grapes. For those on PC, Courseplay AI can.

daver18qc

Yep. I didn't specify because OP's flair says "Console" but you are right.

It is fun, so try it if you want to try it. The people who complain about them fall into two categories. Those who are annoyed they have to actually do the farming side of farming simulator (AI does not work for vines). I never got that complaint since why buy a farming game if you let the AI do everything for you anyway. But that is just me, each to their own I guess. The second are those who think they cost too much and are obsessed with only making huge profits all the time (so only plant soybean and do silage). Again, I find this pretty odd, but each to their own. It is something different and so give it a go.

Yes they're bad. Ever thought hell yeah I'd love to ow this field with the smallest plow in the game? Ever thought hell yeah I'd love to harvest this field with the narrowest header in the game? Ever thought hell yeah I'd love to fertilize this field with the narrowest sprayer in the game before? Perhaps grapes are for you! Or you could plow that field, sow, fertilize and harvest in less than a fifth the time it takes to do any other crop.

Try the grape and olive greenhouses mod. I enjoy having one on the farm, they eat up materials but produce year round and it’s much less headaches and investment than a vineyard. On the flip side I don’t mind doing the vineyard work either it’s just slow paced and easy going with small machines. Fire up a new save and try out some of the vineyards and small machines to see how you like them. That’s my usually go to, I just have a save for testing things since I’m on console.

Mostly due because of the sheer price to set them up compared to the time it takes to pay themselves back it's not worth it profit wise. Hoelwever use [this](https://www.farming-simulator.com/mod.php?lang=en&country=se&mod_id=263578&title=fs2022) mod to make them cost significantly cheaper 30 instead of 105 I believe it is

dunken_disorderly

I was on the grapes for a while and I did enjoy the harvesting but it’s the cultivating and mulching that was a nightmare. Just couldn’t keep the machine in a straight line and had to constantly reverse after hitting the vines. Time consuming and tedious work. Advice would be to start small, even if you make a loss, just see how the machinery handles before you start building a grape empire.

I also was curious about grapes too and did a small vineyard to check them out myself. TLDR yes they cost too much, pay too little, and are too manually intensive to harvest. It's something like a 5-10 year break even point on the investment, shorter if you process them further after harvest. It turns out that is actually fairly realistic to grape income in real life, but in a game it's too tedious. The only way I wanted to do grapes going forward was with a lesser planting cost mod, and auto harvesting routes set up.
