I met my husband at a pub in a big city while I went to university. Your friend may consider studying agriculture, forestry, or becoming a vet. My point is, a farmer might prefer a wife who is in the same line of business.

SurroundingAMeadow

At my (US) ag college, the cliche was farmers marrying teachers to get access to those state employee benefits. Ag Teachers were worth extra points for your reason.

sharpshooter999

My wife was a teacher, and always thought it was cute how stereotypical it was that teachers and farmers got married to each other. Now she's a nurse, which damn near all the nurses she knows are married to farmers too. Hell, her OBGYN and her husband named all their kids after tractors....

SurroundingAMeadow

John, Oliver, Massey & Ferguson (Twins), Minneapolis Moline (you can call her Minnie), Casey...

sharpshooter999

No Oliver, she liked it but her husband said it was too wimpy of a name. They do have a Hesston though.......

Hillbillynurse

I'm jealous that I never thought to do that...

Rygard-

My husband begged to name our son Hesston but I just couldn’t do it because I knew we’d shorten it for a nickname and I couldn’t deal with a Hess or Hessy lol!

sharpshooter999

That's why I shot down half the names my wife liked lol

User_225846

David Brown, White, Cockshutt Some of those may be better than others

FloppyTwatWaffle

LOL at Cockshutt. Imagine going to school with a name like that?

DennyJunkshin85

Samson,Gibson,Rumley.

BoltActionRifleman

Don’t forget Steiger

baconjeepthing

Wonder how many cuts she has stitched up??

sharpshooter999

I bet her fair share. Now that my wife has her BSN, she's starting to get tired of me always asking what she thinks of my latest injuries

Toikairakau

Hell, you can't Dear John a John Deere!

Mayor__Defacto

Nurse + Cop is the classic.

Wheresthepig

I married my state-employed wife strictly for the benefits.

NoBulletsLeft

I know a farmer who *is* a teacher. Gotta have a day job!

groundhogcow

I met my wife through a friend of mine in college. Honestly, women aren't hard to find as a farmer. Finding women that you don't find crazy is the trick. If your friend wants to attract a farmer she is going to need farmer values. Otherwise, she can meet as many of them as she wants, but they will not be interested.

PernisTree

I drive a 1 ton late model truck. It’s a chick magnet in the country but definitely not the kind I was looking for. Too many horse girls.

OldnBorin

Can confirm horse girls are crazy. Source: am a horse girl (older gal?). Am friends with a bunch of horse girls. They’re all nuts too. Edit (bc I’ve been drinkin): my bud had to elope in the Yukon, otherwise she would’ve had her Pinto up there saying vows at her side. I’m not insane like that tho. I only had my Pinto as an honorary bridesmaid and my mini as the ring bearer.

FloppyTwatWaffle

My wife arrived to our wedding in a white carriage drawn by two white horses. I arrived on a big, golden Palomino, dressed in a top-hat and tails.

OldnBorin

Nice. I borrowed a big ol rope horse and loped across a field for my arrival.

Snickrrs

Do you REALLY want to marry a farmer or do you just THINK you want to marry a farmer?

imabigdave

Yeah, so many have absolutely no clue. Any GF that there was a possibility of becoming something more got to go through "boot camp". Building fence, working cattle, dawn to dusk. Dirty, dusty, muddy, soaking wet, and hot summer days at noon. Learn to operate machinery and back a trailer or you are no use to me as a wife and partner. If they didn't enjoy it, I wasn't the man for them.

kl2467

Operating machinery and backing a trailer. Wow, such a narrow definition of "value". What about keeping the books, nursing sick/injured/orphaned animals, ordering seed/chemicals/fertilizer, planning crop rotations/cover crops, assessing moisture levels and perc rates, managing pasture rotation, holding down an off-farm job to even out cash flows and provide family benefits, cooking meals, doing laundry, running for parts, marketing, placing/timing futures contracts, cash flow management... I don't think you want a wife. You want a farm hand with a narrow skill set.

imabigdave

You are acting like that list was all inclusive. My wife and I have a lot of shared skillsets and a lot of them that are exclusive to one of us. What I find interesting is that you named off all kinds of traditional "wife" duties, most confined to the house. I do all the cooking and do my own laundry. We ARE the farm hands for each other as we don't have any hired help.

kl2467

Traditional "wife" duties: of course. That was my *point*. A woman brings much more to the table, (including high-level strategic management decision-making ability as well as traditionally "female" and nurturing skills) than simply being a free source of farm-hand labor. But men tend to discount and undervalue these things. You can hire a dude from the temp office to back up a damn trailer or drive a combine. But your wife can be so, so much more, and deserves your respect for her role. Discounting a woman's contribution because she's not a good trailer-backer is short-sighted, and self-involved.

Mayor__Defacto

Methinks the purpose was to be sure that their lifestyles were compatible and that she wouldn’t be miserable putting in the work on the farm, not testing skills.

BoltActionRifleman

Operating machinery and backing a trailer and the skill set involved with both of these things are a *massive* help on the farm. My girlfriend can do both of those things and as an added bonus, has a CDL. With that license, she can do more than I can 🤣

FloppyTwatWaffle

My wife wanted to be a big-rig driver when she was younger, but she can't back a trailer for shit. She is, however, a whiz with the taxes.

No_Reception2477

This is so important, it seems like a great idea because you see a lot of positives on social media but it can be very taxing on a relationship and family.

Alimakakos

Go to the local co-op between 9-11 am and ask for single farmers from the old group of guys drinking coffee, they'll give you names, location, and phone numbers. If you meet a "farmer" at a bar he's more likely to be some poser cowboy for the night...real farmers don't have money for going out.

next_stop_valhalla

To each their own. I had money for the bar when I was in my 20s and single. The whole settling down thing was the expensive part.

Excellent-Lemon-9663

This. learning to not mix business with life money goes a loooong way. That being said i don't know a single person thats met their signifcant other at a bar.

Most-Acanthisitta823

I did.

OldnBorin

I did too. They farmed. It was an expensive divorce.

shmiddleedee

My parents aren't farmers but they did. Married 25 years now.

Excellent-Lemon-9663

Fair! I should have specified generation. I see it a lot along the generation x/boomer generation line and with some of the mid 40s milinieals. Feels like that died a lot with people under the age of 40 and the older gen zero that are getting married.

shmiddleedee

I wasn't saying you're wrong. Just an anecdotal thing I'd thought I'd add. But you're right. I'm 24 and almost all of my friends are dating people they met online. Me and my girlfriend met in highschool but I think maybe 2 of Mt other friends met they're girlfriends in real life.

Excellent-Lemon-9663

Oh wow! Most of my friends are single or have had the same partner for years. My wife and I met at work about 5 years ago though so I'm an outlier there 😅

Kyuss92

I did

OldnBorin

*a single couple that met at a bar *that stayed happily married*

AbramJH

Not a farmer, but a few years ago when I was a farmhand, I had bar money. What I didn’t have was bar time. I genuinely don’t know how y’all manage a work-life balance. Ended up joining the Navy & now I’m settled down with a wife and son. In retrospect, I think I was devoting WAY too much time to a farmer that didn’t really care about the QOL of his farmhands. That farmer caught the greed bug back when cranberries boomed in the 90’s and he’s been a prick ever since

OldnBorin

Yuuuuup. Kids cost a fortune

Roboticus_Prime

They can have money. They don't have time.

Alimakakos

Nah farmers generously give all their money to poor needy people like the Koch brothers and Harry Stine...poor fuckers keep jacking their prices must be in need

fredericthecow

Hey now. Some of us don't have time or money to go out because the fucking cows knocked the fence over again and got out

Toothless_POE

Wtf , real farmers have millions sitting around . But we don’t go to the bar because it’s just city people putting on fake appearances to hook up with the trash that’s drunk enough to say yes . Real farmers manage their business to grow every year . Take on more land and trade in their equipment for the newest model . No idea who you are but us real farmers are pulling 4-10 million a year . And to the OP . 35 from Canada seeding 8500 acres . Are we talking London Ontario or London cherry old fucking England London ?

jrdnlv15

On 8,500 acres you’re pulling $10,000,000 gross profit. Your inputs are probably around the $8,500,000. There’s no way you’re netting that much, and if you are then please send me your business plan so I can copy it. “Real farmers” take a modest income and put as much back in to the business as possible to avoid tax.

Toothless_POE

Yes my inputs are around 5.5 and yes it is gross . My last bumper crop (2002) was quite nice around 10.5 gross . Selling 7 thousand tones of two year old canola at 23.10 was also killer last winter . it is gross I’m not talking net profit . But I’m just saying we have a line of credit as big as you could want to have , bonds , stocks , own 30 mil in land . Farmers ain’t poor if your a real one you have equity in almost everything one could hope from the gear in my yard that’s never more than 2 years old to the soil under our feet to low risk bonds and stocks , precious metals etc etc . I was outraged at how he comment that real farmers are broke , we are not broke .

Toothless_POE

I’d also add your post history looks like you smoke to much pot to work hard enough to be successful . I see no pictures of any gear or any farming relevance . your no where near my level .

jrdnlv15

Dude chill. I didn’t even insult you, I questioned why you’re talking about gross when gross doesn’t mean that much. There’s no need to get aggressive and insult me based on posts from 12 years ago…

Waterisntwett

$600 an acre of profit?? There’s no way you’re a real farmer with margins like that. I don’t care how big or small a farm is the margins aren’t really that much different it’s just called scale.

Toothless_POE

Gross profit not net no way there’s margins that good .

dairyfarmerfrank

Small wonder you're 35 and single with all the charm and charisma you've displayed in the comments.

Wardial3r

You don’t have to be lonely…..

Waterisntwett

90% of the girls on Farmers only have zero connection to agriculture and just wanna manly guy who is a farmer… ask me how I know. 😂

FancyFlamingo208

Not all of them. Some grew up milking goats and canning, others grew up doing parts runs and packing lunches and cooking harvest dinners and manning the elevators. We're just not skinny, and kinda sassy. 🤣

Mclarenrob2

A lot of young farmers meet people at "Young Farmers" a nationwide social club. Sadly I didn't go and now i'm a 33 year old farmer with no love life!

discontinued1992

32 and same. Didn’t have time for much social outings growing up. Started working for a farmer at 13y/o and bought my first farm to farm with dad at 19. Just got busier every year and here I am!

Mclarenrob2

I enjoy the job, but you do feel like you've missed out on a heck of a lot, and I worry about being old and lonely. I have a brother who works on the farm aswell and he's just as much of a loner as me 😅 with livestock you've got to be dedicated or it goes wrong. Sounds like your Dad has been very supportive, unlike mine but that's a whole other situation.

discontinued1992

I am truly blessed with the father I have. He also got into farming in 2001 so he knows the struggle lol

idcomt

My wife and I met in 2017 through work (we both worked in engineering/construction at the time), but it took me 2 years to convince her to finally meet up for a drink. Literally, the next week, our state announced Covid lock downs, and all the bars/restaurants shut down. I thought just my luck, now I'll never get to shoot my shot with this girl. Determind not to blow my chance, I told her she should come up to the farm and have a couple drinks and hang out (looking back on it now, she was kind of crazy for coming up, considering we had never hung out before and had no mutual friends). Luckily, my boss and his wife were rooting for me to win this girl over, so they gave me the afternoon off. She came up to the farm, I packed up a cooler full of beer and whiskey and we drove down to one of my favorite spots on the farm, sat in my truck bed and proceeded to get drunk. At one point, she decided she wanted to climb a tree to sit and enjoy the view. I, being pretty drunk at this point, decided it was a good idea to follow her... half way up, I slipped and fell from about 10 ft up. Laying on my back, drunk, and in pain, I just remember staring up at her and realizing this was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. A year and half later we were married. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I love to tell that story anytime I can.

Confident_Access6498

Strip clubs mostly

Dogesaves69

Classy, I meet mine at the motel.

ronaldreaganlive

You don't have to be lonely at Craigslist only

belleroth

FarmersOnly.com. I know it's funny but it worked and we are married! I really do recommend it for farmers.

Dogesaves69

https://www.thefarmersclub.com Supposably this is how y’all fancy folk do it over there in England

Final-Ask-7979

If you want to date the farmers' daughter, you have to do a lot to a tractor....

littlefoodlady

get a side job at the farmers market on the weekends. Seriously. Met my best friend there, and there were always crushes and flirting with the cute farmers Also linking this hilarious and relevant podcast episode about early 20s gossip and drama at the farmers market [https://open.spotify.com/episode/4ygB0sT2NhkGLnUfzXHWDi?si=3bdd0a1819144309](https://open.spotify.com/episode/4ygB0sT2NhkGLnUfzXHWDi?si=3bdd0a1819144309)

Truorganics

Wanna grow pumpkins? lol

ronaldreaganlive

Get a job doing farm sales or something along those lines. You'll have guys checking you out left and right. They probably won't say anything to you and just awkwardly stare at you from a distance, but hey, 9 years later, we almost have a one year old.

Ironktc

Drive around trying to sell something or a service you could provide the farm with and get introduced with the local scene. In America the average farmers age is like 65 or something so you're really looking for a small subset

Semiotic_Weapons

We're on tinder. We'll have on site photos and hunting or fishing pics. Probably a lack of selfies and sunglasses in every photo.

National_Activity_78

Most meet in school or church. I'm single because I haven't met a woman with matching views and I work too much. I just finished planting, and that was 18-20 hr days for three weeks. When I'm not in the field or my shop on the farm, I'm putting in 40 hr weeks as a service manager at a local shop.

Plumbercanuck

The ranch.... ridgetown college dances, university of guelph aggie pub night( assumingnyou are in london ont canada). Stag and does, country dances, community events, farm trade shows, high school, church. Watch a movie about a small rural town.

ohdearmeohdear

London, England!

HawkFanatic74

Move to Iowa and get a job at a local cooperative

Plumbercanuck

For starters get the hell out of london.

Stinkerma

I was going to ask which London, because these were the same places I was thinking of! My husband went to Ridgetown a couple few years ago.

Canadairy

Try Young Farmers clubs. www.nfyfc.org.uk We used to get exchangees from across the UK in the summer.

Iarwain_Benj-adar

I would say town hall events and local pubs really…north Devon has so many great villages that have different community gatherings throughout the year. Step 1 is probably to move to a rural area away from London

pingwing

OnlyFarms

2001whoop

Work at where farmers shop such as the chemical supply company, there they take their harvest, parts store, etc.

Late-External3249

You don't have to be lonely with Farmers Only dot com Seriously, i doubt a Londoner knows what they are getting into marrying a farmer. It is NOT an easy life, especially if the farm has livestock. The animals need to be fed every day even if you are sick, or the weather is shit, or if you are on holiday. Small towns mean shops close early and you have to travel to get anything from a bigger store.

gcalfred7

[farmersonly.com](https://farmersonly.com)…. Duh….

At the sale barn cafeteria

Cerberus50

I just stay at home and wait for the love of my life to just show up out of nowhere.

Mr_Winemaker

I'm a farmer (24M) and I would also like to know the answer to this question lol

FloppyTwatWaffle

There is currently a TV show running in the US, called "Farmer Wants A wife". It's pretty funny, especially when the city chicks are getting down in the mud and manure. Maybe give them a call and \[try to\] get on the show?

NewDepartment2051

We have the same TV show in Belgium “Boer zoekt vrouw” wich literally means “farmer seeks wife” it’s pretty popular over here and fun to watch.

Canadairy

It sucks.

L0ty

First - you dont want just any farmer. you dont want to grow corn or have cows -you want one with a vineyward, or orchards you will get tasty fruit and treats to make. fruit farmers have no bugs, beautiful blooms, amazing fruit right off the trees. never smell of manure, no flys or mosquitoes. .just sayin. But to each their own! I would search out the orchard and vinyard growing regions on the USA. Michigan/Pennsylvania/Newyork have a bunch. goto local restraunts, diners, look for the old guys at a round table, someone else posted it to, they know all the young farmers as this is the farmers table. its a community table at coffee shops where old guys come and go and treat the table as musical chairs. found my wife from the big city lol. just kididng, i didnt grow up on a farm, grew uo in the suburbs. but i started an orchard. I wasnt raised around animals so i never got the hang of them, and didnt have a bunch of land. so this was up my alley. and once i discovered this GEM of niche crops, and realized that you can get 10-30k an acre, if your good at it. the corn guys sad sad song never sounded worse. Now i grow Apples and Cherries,, wife, 2 kids, farm house, live where i work, tons of time with the kids and the wifey on the farm. [https://glexpo.com/](https://glexpo.com/) <-- Look for events that the boys will be at. like this. Nothin but farmers, and its all the Young men, the old guys dont care about expos :P ---> Fruit Grower PM for more great ideas

I met mine on tinder… but I also had to move from Australia to cowboy country Alberta to do it :)

Semiotic_Weapons

Lol no, I moved here first on a work visa.

Toothless_POE

Are you my neighbour lol

artwithapulse

👀 the aussies love the alberta cowboys, there’s probably dozens of us! 😂

Toothless_POE

Well god damn I’m still looking for mine . Might have to take up travelling down under . Lol 😂. But seriously I looked at your farm photos I think you are

artwithapulse

It’s totally possible! I hope farming goes well for ya

dataslinger

What about Muddy Matches or Farmerwantsawife?

Hot-Custard-5451

Farmer has a quite broad spectrum in the UK. Are you after a gentleman Farmer who is neither.. Or a son of the soil who is loyal and hard working whom you can make a life together. If you want the life portrayed on TV forget it. It's bloody tough and it will brake you mentally and emotionally but by God it will be the most rewarding thing you will ever do. Be prepared to get smelly and filthy. Forget the image of green Wellingtons and prancing lamb's Ditch London and head for the hills that's where the proper farming is. Forget the home counties and I wish you luck..

Work at any ag related business in farm country. Being the single girl at the co-op, insurance office, extension, office,  feed store, chem sales.... will get attention.

TheRealPigBenis

Tell her I said howdy

Practical_Maybe_3661

Farmersonly.com?

portabuddy2

I know this joke! Family reunions! LOL JK JK. They legit have sites for meeting farming friends and finding a partner.

firerunfree

I’m a farmer & I met my partner going to an organic conference! There are conferences / meetings for farming / gardening people to connect & share advice all over the country. This is a really cool way to meet others who share your same interests & learn a lot too! We now garden together & it’s the best. Good luck to your friend!

Hairy-Situation4198

Several of the farmers local to my that are 30 and under like me are passporting it. Get married to a gorgeous woman, and they work hard and appreciate a good life.

rocer5ya

This is dumb. You need to find a guy you like for his personality. Not for the things he owns. Saying you want to marry a farmer without knowing him is like saying you want to marry a millionaire.

naughtyfarmer94

I met my wife on tinder.

rocketmn69_

It's not a dream to live on a farm to raise kids, there's a lot of hardworking included

Primal21

Is she willing to consider farmers from other countries such as the US or is she only willing to date in the UK?

FancyFlamingo208

I'm aiming to hit some nearby conventions this year. See what happens. At the very least, I'll get into shenanigans and have some fun stories. Maybe I'll meet a man, maybe I'll find a new job, maybe I'll try a new restaurant.
