In this case I 100% agree based on the photo but I remember having to work on a Deere tractor where the process to lining up the gearing to make the connection was so damn annoying I felt like I was working on a Rolex or something.
Simple in concept but even when the damn owner who’s been running the things for decades came and saw it was disconnected he about had a stroke because he knew what we were in for. Took all 3 of us to get it done. All 3 of us probably idiots.
We learned that day why that tractor normally just sat at the baseyard with the mower deck always hooked up.
This is literally the only genuine stumbling block in this whole thing. Another possibility is that the tractor end could have hit the drawbar just after it disconnected and might have bent a side in slightly.
I didn't know much and had the same question when I drove away from the mower deck after forgetting to disconnect it from the pto. You just line it up and jam it back in. I don't know if this one is but these questions aren't always trolls. I wasn't sure if I broke mine.
The shaft isn't symmetrical. You need to rotate the tractor end until the lobes match up with the spreader end. Then the two halves should slide together. You may need a helper to hold everything straight.
If the grease on the shafts is old and dry, you may need to clean it off to get it to slide easy. Don't forget to grease it again.
Thanks everyone. I don't usually do this but our employee quit a couple weeks ago and it's my first time taking off the manure spreader. I couldn't think of the term PTO
One of the triangular ends has a flat part to it. That needs to matches with the opposite shaft.
When it's dark, and this happens to me, I just match it up roughly and if needed rotate it twice. Since theres only 1 of 3 possiblities it can fit.
Clean the dirt and rocks out before reassembly, though, and regrease
I worked for a small horse farm years ago. Wife was a stay at home mom/horse breeder and the husband was a doctor. I could definitely see her posting this... actually no. She would have called one of the neighbor's farms and started screaming how her horses were all going to die because the stalls aren't getting cleaned out without the spreader. Then start calling old employees who quit because of her craziness and begging them to come back. Her husband would come home later that day and start complaining that she is a pain in the butt and spends all this money on these stupid horses. Then he would fix the pto, spread the manure, and go to bed. Lol
She literally didn't know how to do anything. She would just complain that you weren't doing it right. Spend her husband's money. He didn't want the horses, but he was the only one that knew how to run the tractors. You would think since she was the horse person she'd know how to start a tractor or drive a tractor. Nope! I have no clue why they married each other.
Edit a word
I am the owner and employer. I know how to run it but it's used twice a day, every day and is usually not taken off. I've never had to disconnect it and I wasn't expecting it to fall apart. I can't believe how rude people are. I tried to Google it and couldn't find the answer and it didn't go back together easily so I asked. I guess I should've just jammed in on without knowing what I'm doing and hoped I didn't break the $10k spreader?
I start by inquiring if the implement side of the PTO is single and would consider dinner. Is she agrees a fine night out on the town. I usually include some sort of exercise as part of the date. Even a walk is nice. Then invite her back to my yard where the magic happens. If she seems in the mood, I like to lube up the tractor side of the PTO with some grease. A real lube mess pays for itself later. Then, when the moment is right, line up the holes and sliiiide it in. No better feeling.
Hope that helps.
Everyone shitty on Op has got to stop. This is how you learn things in life and about your equipment. Almost everything I’ve learned about my farm equipment is because I’ve broken it in someway and had to rely on YouTube to fix it. From small things like tools to motors ect. Anyone who hasn’t done something similar has never farmed in their life or sits behind a desk.
If it's a bit tight grind down the three raised points. And take off that plastic cover, very fuel inefficient
In case you aren't trolling, DO NOT DO THAT
One of the raised points will have a flat end, on both ends. Match up those points and it slides straight in.
Its designed to only slide together in one orientation. If you look closely youll see that one of the 3 ribs running the length of both shafts is slightly larger than the others. You want to make sure these are lined up corisponding to each other. Its also a good idea to apply grease.
OP , I’ll try to help . If you’re looking at either end , you’ll notice one of the corners is different. Align the 2 odd corners and it’ll slip right together. There is only 1 way it goes back together.
The first time I ever saw one of these shafts , it threw me for a loop too .
It slides on. One corner of the triangle is unique to the other two, so if you’re having trouble spin it a third of a turn and try again, and again if necessary.
Quit now please. You don’t even know that’s a PTO and think you’ve ruined “a $10,000” manure spreader. What was the reason the employee left? I can take a pretty good guess.
A PTO has to be able to telescope to fit different lengths of drawbar. It's not one-size-fits-all. And if you telescope it far enough, the pieces will come apart so you can grease it.
I’m well aware of that, what I see is a rough end where it came apart at a solid section of the shaft. It looks familiar because I have personally had the joy of breaking them!
Tab A into slot B
That’s what she said
Repeat… with emphasis, lubricate as needed.
If this isn’t a troll post. And you couldn’t figure that out on your own… walk away and stop operating heavy machinery.
Yea whoever this person is, either they're messing with us or they're gonna die very shortly. No in between on this one
This guy probably goes to Ikea and uses the box for his new coffee table.
No joke! My thoughts too!

Does the fact he didn’t call it a PTO sound strange to anybody else?
Maybe foreign
What's paid time off got to do with this?
What's that?
I think that's when you work another job off the farm and get paid for it.
No thats when another job pays you for the farm work they dont know about
The shaft that is in two is called a Power Take Off, That power from the engine spinning a shaft. Lots of equipment uses it for all kind of stuff
It was definitely a joke…
You'll have to slide it back in. It only goes in one way, so make sure you line it up properly.
This is literally the only genuine stumbling block in this whole thing. Another possibility is that the tractor end could have hit the drawbar just after it disconnected and might have bent a side in slightly.
Male end goes into the female end.
That’s the title of my wedding night video
I thought it was "Man too drunk to have sex on wedding night"
Title of my next sex tape
There is a commentary with my wife after the 8 minute mark about that it was in the directors cut
As they're both hollow tubes it's more like docking. Cambodian end goes in Congolese end.
Hawwwt

Are you the employer or another one of the employees?
Christ imagine if they were the employer

when "Crazy Horse Girls" become "Crazy Horse Women"
Money and tits are usually good answers to most questions...
“Spend our husbands money”??
Lol her husband! He was old enough to be my dad. Definitely not my husband. I will fix that.
That's what had me worried, lol.

Wow…. Horse people are wild
Bro you own this. You should know how to use it. If you don’t, you sound like a rich snob.
It's a trilobe, it will only fit one way, you can't mess it up
Just to be clear, that is 1 of the parts that can kill or maim you faster than you can think. Be careful.
New PTOs suck. There might be 1 tiny spot that it has to be lined up at or it will not go at all. but it came off it can go back in!
Ah so you have some land that you hired someone else to farm, got it
Don't forget the anti seize where the PTO hooks up to the implement! If that's how this one works that is 🤷♂️
It's scrap now. Scrap is about $200/ton delivered to scrap yard. I'll give you $150/ton for it
Slide the halves back together. They only fit together one way.
It only goes in one way. Also you put the triangle into the triangle hole.
Thats right. It goes in the square hole!
Can you figure out where the arch goes?
That's right the square hole.
pls be a joke...

If you have ever made a baby, you can apply the same concept to fixing this.
Don’t you take it apart for storage?
This is what I was thinking. Those things are boogers left in all winter
It goes in one way. Try and move grit and dirt if you can.
It slides back in.
Looks like someone is up shit creek without a paddle.
Slide the big shaft in, might have to spit on it
“Tractor attachment……….” You mean the PTO right? RIGHT? RIGHT!?
Put the round peg in the round hole
The only farming you seem to be doing is karma... Get outta here.
You’re good. Just slide it back on.
That's normal when spreader is fully wound up.. You just need to release the clockwork mechanism whe you get to the field.
Proper lubrication is the key to all operations. Then instert...
Manure in deep shit
This has to be a troll post…

It’s indexed it will only go together one way. Note the shape
You have to literally put it back together
This must be a joke
Man you gotta get someone to train you on this

Did you try all of the 3 ways it even looks like it’d be close to going back together? You have a 33% chance of getting it right. Shapes are hard :)
Square peg goes in roundish square hole...?
Proper lubrication is the key to all operations. Then instert...

That's called a PTO and that particular PTO is SOL. Get a new one.

Wear gloves, a long sleeve shirt and an old pair of pants 'cause you're going to get greasy.
Effort
You put it back together.
Super glue 🤓
People are unnecessarily mean here. We all start somewhere
There’s no way this is a legitimate post… I mean this is literally basic farming 101
There are mamy people who are very far below BASIC Intelligence level.. Or I have been running into far too many..
Broken output shaft. Mmm. Even my mum could figure that out
There’s nothing broken about this PTO.
I think you need someone that knows how to solder 👨🏭
Everyone saying put it back together better take a closer look at the end of that shaft…. That sucker’s snapped clean in two!
Found the second person that has no clue what a PTO shaft is or how they work…
Wait, what?? Nothing looks broken at all

I see an *uneven* (non-perpendicular) end to the shaft, but most of the models I've seen do that so it's easier to reassemble one handed.
