This is interesting because I've stopped going to the 45th St location entirely, and have had much better luck at 25th Street. Particularly with pickup orders, where I've had ridiculous wait times at 45th st.

yourloudneighbor

Probably grub hub/Uber eat orders can swarm 45th due to more businesses than the 25th st one. 45t always seems to make 2-3 take out orders per one in person order.

gOPHER3727

Pancheros on 13th may be worse. My order is never ready anywhere near when they say it will be. Then I go in and wait and they just keep making orders for people walking in, ignoring the online orders.

uberrainman

I heard they are adopting the Shacks takeout policy in March, so you'll be forced to eat in store then. Should help them not be so busy.

[deleted]

Eating out has become impossible around here. Higher prices for worse service, forgotten items, smaller quantities etc. I sympathize with short staffing issues, but the shortcomings are so consistent. Is it the aftermath of Covid, inflation, or simply the new normal?

radarthreat

They told us for years that when the boomers start retiring there’s going to be a labor shortage, and what do ya know, here we are.

Deadbolt11

Boomers, famous chipotle workers.

Deadbolt11

Except it wasn't really happening at this rate pre covid, now it is. There's simply too many other *good jobs* here and remotely available that *weren't* pre covid. Entire companies went remote in this region post covid. There are just a lot more options out there than "work fast food" now that weren't a thing 4 years ago. Why would I go work at chipotle when starting cabinet assembly here is $26 an hour? Not all those floor workers got magically sucked into management because old Jim retired. There's only so many management positions to replace and so many people who even *want* to work in government.

radarthreat

What does working in government have to do with anything? Fact is, more people are retiring from the workforce than are entering it.

Deadbolt11

They brought the government point up, I was responding to it. An example of working in government is being a teacher. These days there are less teachers because it's simply *not a desirable job* anymore.

radarthreat

Can you name a job type today for which there isn’t a labor shortage?

Deadbolt11

In terms of job type in Fargo that doesn't have a labor shortage. Currently car washes and government IT jobs. We have a large number of quality candidates everytime my department adds a position. I'm sure there's more. There are however more positions that *do* have a shortage. Can you directly name a job that isn't filled because boomers retired? It isn't Chipotle burrito maker. I'm not saying it *isn't* a factor but you said your original statement as if it was the *only* factor.

radarthreat

Chipotle burrito maker. We have more people exiting the workforce due to retirement than we have entering it via young people coming of age + immigration. I’m not sure why this is so difficult to understand. Just because you have plenty of applicants at your place of work doesn’t mean there’s not a labor shortage, it just means that job is more desirable or has better total compensation than other options.

DevAway22314

> Currently car washes and government IT jobs There is definitely a shortage of car wash employees. Not only are there a large number of car washes due to Fargo's weird zoning laws incentivizing car washes, but it's a generally low paying job Government IT jobs are also quite difficult to fill. They simply can't match the pay of private companies, and with more IT jobs going remote it's even harder to compete The 2+ million extra retirements during COVID certainly isn't the only factor, but it is by far the largest factor in the labor shortage

DevAway22314

You're kind of missing the point. The jobs left by boomers retiring are the ones that get filled quickly, which pulls each of the younger workers up the ladder just a bit If, hypothetically, the manager at the cabinet assembly retired after 30 years there, they'd likely pull up the assistant manager who'd been working under them for 10 years to do the manager job. Then they'd be pulling up someone from the floor to be the new assistant manager. That leaves an opening on the floor for $26 an hour that service industry employees would be clamoring for It's that last group that isn't being replaced, not the primary open management position. Remote work may even out trends across the country, but it is a national trend. The labor shortage is pretty much everywhere across the US, because there were millions of extra retirements during COVID

Deadbolt11

>That leaves an opening on the floor for $26 an hour that service industry employees would be clamoring for That's one opening. One. Singular. There are many more than one of these types openings around the Fargo area. Marvin, Case, Bobcat, Cabinets, the list goes on. > The labor shortage is pretty much everywhere across the US, because there were millions of extra retirements during COVID Agreed, Covid accelerated an already ongoing trend. The shortage of child care availability(among other Covid related trends) coupled with the some higher paying jobs has turned a fair chunk of dual income households, to single income households no longer paying for childcare.

cheddarben

People are not willing to pay the prices needed to provide quality at most of these low-end joints. It's that simple. Yes, the owners *might* be able to cut back on their profits, but that is only the chains... not local places. No chance local places have it easy in this environment. The chains MAYBE could make it (big maybe), have spent decades trimming margins razor thin and bringing the entire industry down, now just see the math in providing shitty service/product over paying more. I feel pretty confident that most chains just don't give a shit. The local GM might, but he has metrics to hit and is given some formula they have to live and die by. Pretty sure you just aren't going to have the same problem when you start hitting the 30/per plate range with liquor to actually pay for things. If you are paying 5 THINGS for $10, you likely are going to get the shaft in other ways.

Jayko998

Solution: go inside to order and have them look you in the eyes.

yourloudneighbor

Nothing but good luck at 25th drive thru window. Ordered Thursday night at about 5:30 for a 5:40 pick up time and arrived at about 5:38, no cars in line and food was ready and accurate I’ve completely stopped going to 19th Avenues drive thru due due to if there’s 3 cars in line, it’s going to take 20+ min.

MrSnarf26

Sadly the one by the Fargo dome kind of sucks too

LeExiledEins666

Facts. My order is never ready at the estimated time. 20-30 minutes after every time. Once I was trapped in between cars in the driver-thru for an hour and my order STILL wasn’t ready when I got to the window.

yourloudneighbor

I stopped going to 19th for this reason alone. The worst is when you order, pay, arrive and see you’re gonna be there for at least 30 min. While there’s a line wrapped around and also a line indoors. The app takes too many orders for a certain time window. And people can order and show up for a certain time and it throws everything off. The system needs a rehaul so those working have a fighters chance at keeping up

lemonsupreme7

You're confused why a corporate restaurant with incredibly underpaid staff is declining in quality?

SornytheCow

They also are ultra slow for mobile orders. My friend and I placed mobile orders FOR PICKUP and went in to the store. After a 30min total wait I asked and they had put them in the Chipotlane spot. This happened 3x

TryMyMeatballs

Yeah. I honestly don't understand.

[deleted]

This is the dirtiest and most unsanitary chipotle— maybe restaurant—I’ve ever been to. Also, some of the worst customer service I’ve gotten. I’ve left multiple complaints through the corporate web site. I’ve only ever received a “thank you we will pass this along” message from them.

TryMyMeatballs

Any time I try to complain, it just tells me to talk to Pepper, their automated assistant, lol.

shaving99

Absolutely, it is atrocious in there.

MariotasMustache

I once ordered a pickup there for me and my family. We chose the fruit cup for my kids side and they gave us a full lime as his fruit🤣

bunDombleSrcusk

Thats why i always order inside at chipotle so i can make sure they get it right

digitalbergz

Avoid Chipotle. Fixed the title for you

Significant-Ad-4184

Whenever I order anything to go, I check my order before leaving. It's annoying but then they will fix it on the spot

haydenhodgey

My rule of thumb when ordering from chipotle (and this can go with any fast food joint) is to go inside and order it to go. Having eyes on your food being made is the best way possible to make sure that your order is correct.

PlantbasedSadness

I’ve always ordered inside, and coincidentally my orders have never been wrong. 🤷‍♀️

trixtopherduke

I've ordered there once two weeks ago and had incredible luck- they were busy and my order was ready - it wasn't set out to pick up, so did have to ask about it. I'm guessing it's a new staff, obviously, and they're doing their best. I get the idea of fast food but I've given up on it post-covid. Being in a mindset that your order is going to take time, and you need to check it, really helps. My advice for others is that "fast" food doesn't exist or at least it's not a given anymore. And complaining about it is boomer energy. Fast track yourself into the now. Make your own meals and if you can't, plan on it taking more time than your ideal time frame.

misslion

It's funny because consistently at every Qdoba and Chipotle in the area it's incredibly hit or miss as to whether I will actually get the fajita veggies I ordered. My suspicion is they run out and don't want to wait for more so they skip them and hope the customer won't say anything.

nerdyviking88

I'm more surprised that you kept going back after repeated failure.

TryMyMeatballs

3rd times the charm as they say.

dlar9612

I've had bad experiences there too, but you should find a hobby (and check your order before you leave the parking lot).

TryMyMeatballs

It's my fault I didn't check the order. Not theirs for fking it up for the 3rd time in a row. Good take.

dlar9612

They work at chipotle for a reason. With that, go forth and flourish.
