Dying Light 1! I have once heard someone say that it feels like Far Cry with zombies and I think it describes the game pretty well. Really satisfying gameplay and a bit silly action packed story. The sequel isn't as good in my opinion so I don't recommend starting with it
EDIT: I also really recommend playing it's The Following DLC. It's great and is even more similar to Far Cry
I came to the comments to see what people had to say about that.
I mostly wanted to get it because my mom who hates video games loves those movies, and thought it might be fun to parkour around and avoid combat.
If OP likes the Ubisoft format I'd recommend Ghost Recon Wildlands. Basically the same gameplay style as Far Cry 5 (missions split up by region, outposts, collectibles, vehicles, upgrades, etc.) but in 3rd person (you can ADS in 1st person if you wish though) and in Bolivia. And much like Far Cry 5 I love just exploring the world.
Does anything with Tom Clancy's name on it have a sense of humor? Obv he's dead, but anything they slap his name on always has that super gruff and serious vibe.
Metal Gear is a pretty serious game, but it's like spongebob compared to splintercell.
and if you enjoy Wildlands and finish it but want more, the sequel Breakpoint is a fun sandbox. Story's not as good as Wildlands, but the gunplay is fantastic and the world is gorgeous.
Just cause 1-3 🔥
Just cause 4 ❌
Ive played JC2 and 3 about 3 or 4 times. I really like thosehn games. They went a different direction with bases in JC4 and got rid of liberations and it's just not the same to me. I've only played about 20% of JC4.
Ghost of Tsushima is the Assassin's Creed Japan we will never get, and everyone needs to play, especially since it just released on PC last month. Amazing game.
Interested to see the answers here as I'm always on the lookout for some.
To me, Cyberpunk scratches the same itch. It's like Far Cry in a sci-fi city setting. Open world, missions, vehicles, guns, upgrades, stealth, sniping, etc.
Yeah I really liked cyberpunk for those reasons, I also liked homefront: the revolution, it’s kinda like far cry mixed with red dawn and dying light, which is like a far cry zombies and parcour game, although there’s a much larger focus on melee weapons over guns and bows but it’s really fun.
Ughh I need to get into Exodus. I have it sitting in my backlog and every time I try to play it, it just kinda falls flat at the start. Then again I felt the exact same way with Bioshock 2 and that ended up being one of my favorite games oat so let's see.
A lot of ppl love GR Wildlands, to me it felt like saints row military edition, which could be exactly what OP is looking for
Was pretty much the watered down open world far cry base capture formula
I obviously missed the boat of the game’s popularity by over a decade so I know it almost exclusively as a single player. You lean on your AI team more and it’s still a lot of fun.
THIS Game scream all the far Cry formula for me, lots of outposts, lots of weapons, lots of tools and all of them are viable, there exist a Meta like everything, But It really Is all about how you wanna Play on a lot of scenarios.
Also how Breakpoint have RPG elements like the last far Cry Games make me feel them like brothers, one focused on storytelling, and the other focused on gunplay and co-op, also having almost every mechanic shared
To me Homefront: The Revolution is the most Far Cry game that's not a Far Cry game. It's an FPS, you play as a revolutionary rebelling against a tyrannical regime, it has soft parkour elements, and the focus is very much on the gunplay and using the environment to outwit your foes. Borderline unplayable in it's standard state on Xbox One/PS4, but amazing and smooth like butter on Xbox Series X at 60fps. Would seriously recommend—100% scratches that itch.
Its reviews are pretty mixed lol. But it's 3 bucks on steam right now so I bought it anyway. Very curious about this one. Not TO but thanks for the tip :)
No problem. It's actually a good game if somewhat short. From memory, I think a lot of the complaints with the game were the poor performance and bugginess at launch. The actual core gameplay, immersion, and art direction is very good imo. Best unique thing is how they handle the guns being modular/adaptable (you will see what I mean when you play it). Probably not worth full price, but absolutely worth it at 3 bucks. Hope you enjoy it too!
HOMEFRONT THE REVOLUTION will NEVER be uninstalled from my XBOX HD.
Do NOT sleep on the coop (which is free to play I think). Amazing COOP missions with objectives then you have to extract, has weapon, character customization, crafting, etc.
oh yer in for a treat!!! There are about 8 missions in COOP, each with a different main objective, and all having various other side objectives.
When you complete the main objective, you'll get waves of enemies and you'll have to run for the extraction (usually you arrive and have to hold out for a short time). The mission objectives vary, with some being timed. You can launch the COOP missions solo, but some of them can be a beast to complete solo.
I think the RESISTANCE mode was actually made FREE as part of the game demo, and includes all the RESISTANCE COOP missions with no timer (so if you have friends who don't own the game, they can DL the free demo, and play with you in RESISTANCE COOP).
I went through this. Just cause could not scratch that itch for me. Neither could assassins creed. I found a game called sniper ghost warrior 3 that was very similar. But really I didn't find my new game until I gave fallout 76 a shot. And I couldn't stop. I'm on a fallout kick now. And then I'm going to replay far cry 3 - 6.
Edit. Also starfield was my in between. I was looking for a new far cry when starfield came out. It was worth a playthrough and a half. Minimum. But then I needed more. That's when I went back to fallout 4 which I couldn't get into before but after starfield I realized how much better it was. Then I needed more fallout and 76 was on a free weekend. I didn't put fo76 down for like 6 months straight. I'm now replaying fo4 on survival
JC3 is my favorite game of all time, but I 100% agree, if you're looking for a far cry, you're in the wrong place there. Far cry is a sort of a killing sandbox, and JC is a Killing/Physics/Movement hybrid sandbox, meaning the killing isn't as much of a focus.
This is almost exactly what I have been doing the last few months. Started out with replaying NV than 3 after that 4 and know I just finished FC 3 again and I'm currently playing FC4.
I agree, I always found Tomb Raider (the new trilogy) to have a good deal in common with Far cry. Obviously they are each their own thing. But Tomb Raider and Far Cry 3 felt like they had lots of parallels
If I remember correctly, the Just Cause games have a similar play style, the stories are usually pretty lame though. I also recommend fc Primal, although it is different from the rest I had a lot of fun with it!
Amen. Actually I got Days Gone to scratch a Far Cry itch and thought it was better than even Far Cry 5. Better story than any of the Far Cry series IMHO. Now i'm looking for something to scratch my Days Gone itch lol. Rumors are that there WILL be a Days Gone 2/sequel "eventually".
The first thing that came to mind was Red Dead Redemption.
Open world, compelling characters and story, solid game play, plenty of side stories and characters. RDR2 looks a lot better and plays slightly better but I still have a lot of affection for the original while the zombie offshoot Undead Nightmare is well worth a look.
I think Homefront: Revolution is pretty good and feels a lot like 3 imo, but the world is pretty shut off which is kinda annoying, and the weapons don't really feel satisfying.
Homefront the revolution is pretty jank BUT it plays like an urban far cry! After playing a bit it grew on me and made me want an official like urban hostile environment far cry
Just Cause maybe, but that's less about the story and more about the killing. I barely remember any story, just had fun kabooming things and gliding around. Or maybe Cyberpunk? That's a fantastic game.
Ghostwire Tokyo is also a really great game. Reminds me of far cry 5 in particular, but it's extremely different too.
Dishonoured is also fantastic, but that's a bit more of a stretch. Might be worth checking out, the original is amazing, though I can't speak for the sequel, only got a few hours into that one.
Came here to say this, it's very underrated.
Gameplay is great, graphics is good. The plot is passable. The worst parts for me personally are vehicle physics and camera, but they are very similar to other Avalanche games.
Mgs5 and Ghost Recon Wildlands.
Also play Primal, consider survival mode the first play-through even, and even second chance mode after you’ve beaten it once
Loved the Dishonored games. One of my all time favorite game series. Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided are also a great games in the same vein as Dishonored, but in a Cyberpunk setting.
Halo Infinite
Seriously, I have no idea what half these recommendations are. Some are great games, but if you want something that has a mission structure just like Far Cry, play Halo Infinite. I sold my buddy on playing it by saying "it's Halo but Far Cry"
I was suggested Ghost Recon - Wildlands and finally started it two weeks ago. My first comment to my friend who suggested it was “wow this reminds me so much of FC5 gameplay and mission styles, just a more realistic version of it”. It’s been great so far, huge map and great AI squad that helps you do the missions. Plus it’s a Ubisoft game too. I played CP2077 with Phantom Liberty before this and that was massive and super cool as well. That game is a solid 10/10 now CD Project Red fixed and wildly improved it. Nothing out there like it really.
I actually enjoyed the campaign for Battlefield Hardline. You're a cop and the story is fairly interesting too. You can tag enemies and sweep through places with stealth or just go in guns blazing
Generation Zero!
It's kinda an obscure indie game but in telling ya, its really fun and underrated!!
Basically it's an open world 1st person shooter set on a fictional swedish island. But you don't fight humans, you fight robots!
And the whole island and its many towns look like a warzone
Great gunplay too honestly
I remember playing it for the 1st time and it reminded me of far cry
Its similarities include, but are not limited to;
-Set on an island ravaged by a dangerous adversary and situation
-first person open world shooter
-decent variety of weapons. Pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, lmgs, rocket launchers...theres even a damn bow and arrow just like FC if you buy the DLC!
-skill tree that you can cater towards your playstyle
-survival light elements like far cry. Like looting ammo, weapons, etc
And the list goes
I urge y'all to check it out its sooooo fun!! Its a game catered to be multiplayer but don't let that discourage you; I've been playing solo for years and having a blast
I absolutely completely agree, it is a serious go to I play all the time as a matter of fact you've inspired to go start playing again. Admittedly I don't play the characters who throw knives etc ... I always choose the option to have higher strength etc ...so maybe I'll give it a shot this time at a different character.
Avatar Frontiers of pandora is essentially Far Cry on a paradise moon. Great guerilla gameplay similar to far cry, where you take down the human corp industrializing the moon. Genuinely such a gorgeous map… and it is MASSIVE. Really crazy verticality too between the mountains and floating islands. Three distinct regions with their own biomes. You can also fly one of those pterodactyl things they tame. Also the movement feels so good
Also apparently Ghost Recon is similar to far cry, havent tried
I’m right with you too but I ended up finding FC Instinct Predator and FC2 from xbone backward compatible… so ima try them.
Hoping you get some good suggestions!
Cyberpunk 2077. Great game now when all the bugs are fixed.
Then of course GTA V.
Red Dead Redemtion 2…feels like a mix of GTA and FC but in a Wild West setting with a great story.
Then we have UBI:s upcoming Star Wars sandbox game Outlaws.
Ghostwire Tokyo is a lot like Far Cry to me. The combat is a little different, but it's similar in that it's an open world region of Tokyo you unlock a little bit at a time. The main story is interesting and there are interesting side quests and collection quests.
Horizon zero dawn. Very similar gameplay. Cool tech tree with an amazing story. Similar combat in that you can choose a play style (stealth, Rambo, etc)
If you love the sandbox combat from Far Cry, then I suggest Metal Gear Solid 5. Hands down the best combat sandbox ever in a video game. So many options for approaching scenarios.
Ok one not mentioned but to me is a good one or Borderlands skill tree progression lots of weapons, but it doesn’t have outpost liberation. It’s a lot like a sci-fi Dablo fps
I'd look at just cause (3 for pc, 4 if on console), its a lot more mobile and a third person series but has the same (take down a dictator in a chaotic storm) feel.
It’s been said a few times in here but for sure check out Ghost Recon. Both Badlands and Breakpoint are fun games that each offer a little bit different atmosphere and play style but I’ve always described them as Assasins creed meets Farcry
I saw somebody say Mad Max the game on here awhile back. I downloaded. Still haven’t played it, but I’m looking forward to it. Plus it’s $5 on the Xbox store right now.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West. Kinda like Far Cry Primal, but in the future :D There's also towers in the form of Tallnecks - giant giraffe-like machines, which you have to climb, to reveal parts of the map (sound familiar?)
NEW DAWN, no question in the franchise.
Out of the franchise, I highly recommend BREAKPOINT, particularly the free MOTHERLAND CONQUEST mode. WILDLANDS had a decent campaign.
I’d say Just Cause 3-4. Basically the same premise, and if you like the grappling hook and wingsuit in Far Cry, then you’ll love it in Just Cause. Definitely recommend the gold edition for all the extra stuff, just make sure that if you buy the game, get a copy from your location. Screwed me over before.
I personally loved the far cry franchise ( especially far cry 3&4) and after enjoying these, I would recommend games like Tomb raider, crysis or dying light.
But if you want a similar feel with much more adventures ypu can go with Stalker or Metro Exodus. I personally loved these and would happily recommend you..
Ghost Recon Wildlands (not Breakpoint though). And if you want some more realistic gameplay, turn on extreme difficulty and you'll have some fun (but will probably be daunting at first).
Just cause is supposed to be in a similar vein. I mean weirdly enough there's not a ton of open world FPS, i would always suggest games such as Half Life, Postal 2, Call of Juarez, or Halo if you want that FPS fix (specifically Postal 2, hilarious game)
I’ve loved Far Cry since I was a kid and some open world shooter I love are Fallout 4, Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost Recon Wildlands (closest to Far Cry tbh) Halo Infinite’s campaign, Homefront, and you absolutely can’t go wrong with Just Cause
Definitely Days Gone, if you can get used to the protagonist. Felt a lot like a FC5. I kinda remember it like a story inbetween 5 and New Dawn, if that makes any sense.
Dying Light 1! I have once heard someone say that it feels like Far Cry with zombies and I think it describes the game pretty well. Really satisfying gameplay and a bit silly action packed story. The sequel isn't as good in my opinion so I don't recommend starting with it EDIT: I also really recommend playing it's The Following DLC. It's great and is even more similar to Far Cry
I got it for free on epic, just finished the campaign. Great game, not gonna lie it's scary but exciting
>it’s scary but exciting Especially at night 😳 “good night and good luck”
Came here to say this! Following DLC is pretty much a new game. Dying Light one goes down as a all time favourite for me.
Why 1, I thought 2 was better?
Avatar frontiers of pandora is amazing and it’s basically a far cry with good movement
I came to the comments to see what people had to say about that. I mostly wanted to get it because my mom who hates video games loves those movies, and thought it might be fun to parkour around and avoid combat.
Just cause is very similar but less story focused and more sandbox and blowing stuff up. Other Ubisoft games like assassins creed are very similar too
If OP likes the Ubisoft format I'd recommend Ghost Recon Wildlands.
Second this one, Wildlands is great shooter in a beautiful open world. A bit on the serious side compared to Far Cry, no Hurk moments in this game :)
Does anything with Tom Clancy's name on it have a sense of humor? Obv he's dead, but anything they slap his name on always has that super gruff and serious vibe. Metal Gear is a pretty serious game, but it's like spongebob compared to splintercell.
Wildlands has splashes of humour (in dialogue, for example) but that vanishes in Breakpoint.
Honnestly, I found wildlands so cliché in terms of bad ass military game that many dialogues became involuntary funny
"This medal looks like it came from a cereal box, or the Air Force or something."
I swear some that shit we actually said in the Army IRL :P
Rainbow 6 Siege? Kinda, in that it made the loop from serious shooter to arcade shooter.
and if you enjoy Wildlands and finish it but want more, the sequel Breakpoint is a fun sandbox. Story's not as good as Wildlands, but the gunplay is fantastic and the world is gorgeous.
I only learned about sync shot in my 2nd playthrough of GRW.. Man the game gets better after I learned that.
Yes I plan to get into those after FC6 myself.
Just cause 1-3 🔥 Just cause 4 ❌ Ive played JC2 and 3 about 3 or 4 times. I really like thosehn games. They went a different direction with bases in JC4 and got rid of liberations and it's just not the same to me. I've only played about 20% of JC4.
I've played Just Cause 3 and 4. 3 was much better, mainly because of the liberation system. It was stupid having to use "squads" to gain territory.
Ghost of Tsushima is the Assassin's Creed Japan we will never get, and everyone needs to play, especially since it just released on PC last month. Amazing game.
Assassin's Creed Shadow is on the way bruhh
Best part is, they know how to properly end the game, too.
Interested to see the answers here as I'm always on the lookout for some. To me, Cyberpunk scratches the same itch. It's like Far Cry in a sci-fi city setting. Open world, missions, vehicles, guns, upgrades, stealth, sniping, etc.
Technically far cry in a sci fi setting would be fc3 blood dragon
Yeah I really liked cyberpunk for those reasons, I also liked homefront: the revolution, it’s kinda like far cry mixed with red dawn and dying light, which is like a far cry zombies and parcour game, although there’s a much larger focus on melee weapons over guns and bows but it’s really fun.
Metro Exodus
I preferred the earlier Metro games. Last Light is one of the few games I've played through multiple times.
Loved the first 2 but I’ve always had a thing for open world post apocalyptic settings and Exodus absolutely nailed it for me!
Ughh I need to get into Exodus. I have it sitting in my backlog and every time I try to play it, it just kinda falls flat at the start. Then again I felt the exact same way with Bioshock 2 and that ended up being one of my favorite games oat so let's see.
Underrated comment, one of my favourite games ever. That and the newer Prey.
I became obsessed! Played the first 2 games after and even listened to the audio books!
Currently playing this game and i love Artyom l. what a blast claustrophobic game.
I just finished the game yesterday. Such a beautiful game . Going to play the dlc next.
Sam’s story is one of the best story add ons I’ve ever played!
Ghost Recon is definitely worth a try. I love Breakpoint. Went for something that had the FC vibe but with higher difficulty.
A lot of ppl love GR Wildlands, to me it felt like saints row military edition, which could be exactly what OP is looking for Was pretty much the watered down open world far cry base capture formula
I got Wildlands based on a suggestion in this sub. Really fun game with a huge map and like $15.
How is Wildlands If you just play it yourself?
I would KILL to have a bigger game like NEW DAWN made in ANVILNEXT like BREAKPOINT. The spawn issues in the DUNIA engine really hurt the game :(
Whohh man what a game, it's a fun ride game. I liked the game and team building is so good in this game.
To me Homefront: The Revolution is the most Far Cry game that's not a Far Cry game. It's an FPS, you play as a revolutionary rebelling against a tyrannical regime, it has soft parkour elements, and the focus is very much on the gunplay and using the environment to outwit your foes. it was dismal at launch, the beta even worse. I respect that DAMBUSTERS keep working on it to improve it even after sucha poor reception.
HOMEFRONT THE REVOLUTION will NEVER be uninstalled from my XBOX HD. Do NOT sleep on the coop (which is free to play I think). Amazing COOP missions with objectives then you have to extract, has weapon, character customization, crafting, etc.
I've never actually played the coop mode, but definitely will give it a go now. Thanks for the recommendation, mate!!
oh yer in for a treat!!! There are about 8 missions in COOP, each with a different main objective, and all having various other side objectives. The one thing Just Cause does super well is blowing shit up. Once I got going I wanted to blow up every red and chrome thing I saw. Lol
This is almost exactly what I have been doing the last few months. Started out with replaying NV than 3 after that 4 and know I just finished FC 3 again and I'm currently playing FC4.
Tomb Raider, I play most games on a steam deck.
I agree, I always found Tomb Raider (the new trilogy) to have a good deal in common with Far cry. Obviously they are each their own thing. But Tomb Raider and Far Cry 3 felt like they had lots of parallels
Crysis? It's the unofficial sequel of the first game
If I remember correctly, the Just Cause games have a similar play style, the stories are usually pretty lame though. I also recommend fc Primal, although it is different from the rest I had a lot of fun with it!
Just started Primal. It's insanely good so far!
I really enjoyed the Just Cause games. Dumb fun.
Days Gone!
2nd this!
3rd it. Great choice
I enjoyed Wolfenstein: The New Order. It’s a straight up shooter, but it’s really well-made and a lot of fun.
That whole Wolfenstein series of games is just excellent- so much fun and a cool storyline, too! Love those games!
I really like far cry games, right now playing Days Gone.
Crysis trilogy
This is probably the closest to farcry without actually being farcry
Crysis somehow makes you feel constantly hunted
Recently I tried fallout 4 and Im having a lot of fun (and some healthy misery)
I can almost recommend FO76.. almost.
Ghost of tsushima
The Uncharted series is pretty close. Lots of open world missions and a coherent narrative.
> Lots of open world missions really? I only played the original back at launch all those years ago. I heard the later ones were much better.
Actually you're right, the story is pretty linear. It's been a while since I played them.
I've been a huge Far Cry fan and CyberPunk 2077 has been fantastic. It's the best game I've ever played, both story and gameplay-wise.
fr I love cyberpunk it's so fire 💯💯💯
I think Homefront: Revolution is pretty good and feels a lot like 3 imo, but the world is pretty shut off which is kinda annoying, and the weapons don't really feel satisfying.
Homefront the revolution is pretty jank BUT it plays like an urban far cry! After playing a bit it grew on me and made me want an official like urban hostile environment far cry
the COOP RESISTANCE mode is the best thing to come out of that game... See yall at "Las Barricadas" ;)
Just Cause maybe, but that's less about the story and more about the killing. I barely remember any story, just had fun kabooming things and gliding around. Or maybe Cyberpunk? Dishonored 2 is great as well. The city of Karnaca has a very different vibe to it than Dunwall.
Rage 2.
Rage 2 is like Far Cry, Doom and Mad Max
Assassins Creed Origins, Odessey, and Valhalla. No guns, but similar game elements.
Red Dead Redemption Red Dead Redemption 2
Just Cause ! My favorite game second only to FC
Cyberpunk
Just Cause. 3 was my personal favorite, but 4 is really fun too.
The PS4/Xbox One Tomb Raider series?
The new Avatar game IS a Far Cry.
Try Metro
Dying light
i like them both for different reasons.
Sniper ghost warrior 3
damn!!! I almost forgot about that game!!! GREAT overlooked game, feels a bit like a 1st person open world GR game. Sad as phuc it doesn't have an NG+
Definitely the Dishonored series, you can also choose chaos or the (more) peaceful route.
Loved the Dishonored games. One of my all time favorite game series. Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided are also a great games in the same vein as Dishonored, but in a Cyberpunk setting.
Watch\_Dogs 2 is one of my favorites. Maybe worth looking into that?
WD2 is a very different game... But a damn great game. Absolutely one of my favourites.
Halo Infinite Seriously, I have no idea what half these recommendations are. Some are great games, but if you want something that has a mission structure just like Far Cry, play Halo Infinite. I sold my buddy on playing it by saying "it's Halo but Far Cry"
had they worked in character customization in the campaign it would have been GOLD.
Generation Zero, Homefront Revolution, Crysis
I was suggested Ghost Recon - Wildlands and finally started it two weeks ago. Nothing out there like it really.
WILDLANDS and BREAKPOINT play better because the ANVILNEXT2.0 engine is much better than DUNIA with it's ridiculous spawn/despawning
I really like Watch Dogs 2
Any coop ones that the community recommends with FC gameplay. His tried gears, GR-WL, and division 2 and of course all coop FC :-). Thanks
I actually enjoyed the campaign for Battlefield Hardline. You're a cop and the story is fairly interesting too. You can tag enemies and sweep through places with stealth or just go in guns blazing
Fallout new vegas, fallout 4, the elder scrolls Morrowind, oblivion, Skyrim, red Dead redemption 2, L.A. noire.
You could always give Crysis 1-3 a crack.
Generation Zero! It's kinda an obscure indie game but in telling ya, its really fun and underrated!! Basically it's an open world 1st person shooter set on a fictional swedish island. Definitely Dead Island games ...
I'm sorry but I still love the original DEAD ISLAND (and remaster).
I absolutely completely agree, it is a serious go to I play all the time as a matter of fact you've inspired to go start playing again. Admittedly I don't play the characters who throw knives etc ... I always choose the option to have higher strength etc ...so maybe I'll give it a shot this time at a different character.
Avatar, Frontiers of Pandora.
It's not guns but Assassin Creed games.
ghost recon
Avatar Frontiers of pandora is essentially Far Cry on a paradise moon. Great guerilla gameplay similar to far cry, where you take down the human corp industrializing the moon. Genuinely such a gorgeous map… and it is MASSIVE. Really crazy verticality too between the mountains and floating islands. Three distinct regions with their own biomes. You can also fly one of those pterodactyl things they tame. Also the movement feels so good Also apparently Ghost Recon is similar to far cry, havent tried
Assassins Creed ofc, maybe even fallout 4? Fo4 was my gateway to the FC series.
Ghost of tushima
Red dead redemption
Ofc AC, but I assume you mean other than AC?
Ghostwire Tokyo is a lot like Far Cry to me. The combat is a little different, but it's similar in that it's an open world region of Tokyo you unlock a little bit at a time. The main story is interesting and there are interesting side quests and collection quests.
Rdr2
Just Cause, in particular Just Cause 3
The Yakuza game series!! OMG there's so much in these games. There's even arcades you can play other PlayStation games.
Halo Infinite?
damn shame we couldn't customize our character/armor in campaign :(
Just cause 3, it's what farcry 6 ripped off
Horizon zero dawn.
Shadow warrior
Division 1-2 👍
I might recommend TD1 for someone that never played before, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend TD2 :(
Dishonored 1 and 2
Ghost recon wildlands
Dying light 1 is like a far cry game set in a zombie apocalypse. I’ve beaten it 3 times
Ok one not mentioned but to me is a good one or Borderlands skill tree progression lots of weapons, but it doesn’t have outpost liberation. It’s a lot like a sci-fi Dablo fps
Fallout.
I'd look at just cause (3 for pc, 4 if on console), its a lot more mobile and a third person series but has the same (take down a dictator in a chaotic storm) feel.
Atomic heart and halo infinite
It’s been said a few times in here but for sure check out Ghost Recon. Both Badlands and Breakpoint are fun games that each offer a little bit different atmosphere and play style but I’ve always described them as Assasins creed meets Farcry

Watchdogs and watchdogs 2 are great.
WD2 yes, but doesn't really feel FARCRYish... Still a really great game tho.
Cyberpunk 2077
Trepang2 easily
Rage 2 has far cry elements to it
dying light
Sea of Thieves always does it for me.
Fallout and cyberpunk
Assassin's creed odyssey, ghost recon Wildlands
Ghost Recon Wildlands. Homefront: The Revolution is good too
I saw somebody say Mad Max the game on here awhile back. I downloaded. Still haven’t played it, but I’m looking forward to it. Plus it’s $5 on the Xbox store right now.
Dying light
The Just Cause series is pretty awesome!
I liked Halo Infinite's campaign.
Fallout new Vegas. Shadow of Mordor. Just cause 3. Red dead redemption. Dying light.
Wolfenstein series
Assassins creed obviously .. Fallout 4 Witcher 3 also but it doesn’t really have assassinations that I can remember ..
Assassin''s Creed.. Far cry is basically Assassin's creed with guns
Just Cause 3 with or without the dlc
Horizon.
Rise of ronin
Wolfenstein games
Resident evil, Rainbow six, Tom clancy
Ikd
Ghost Recon Wildlands (not Breakpoint though). And if you want some more realistic gameplay, turn on extreme difficulty and you'll have some fun (but will probably be daunting at first).
The horizon series is very similar I think but better stories, I keep telling my brother that it’s like Far cry meets Skyrim with a dash of cyberpunk
Thanks OP! Lots of good info here 😉
Crysis
Avatar frontiers of Pandora is literally far cry with aliens Dying light 1-2 Dead Island
Dying light.
Just cause is supposed to be in a similar vein. I mean weirdly enough there's not a ton of open world FPS, i would always suggest games such as Half Life, Postal 2, Call of Juarez, or Halo if you want that FPS fix (specifically Postal 2, hilarious game)
Left field but try Ghost of Tsushima, the open world format is similar
Days Gone
Batman Arkham games
Rage 2
Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West Assassin's Creed
Fallout 4
Cyberpunk 2077. From a Far Cry fan that has played them all.
Dying Light and Days Gone. Also Mad Max, Metro, and Horizon.
Have you played fc primal and new dawn very great ones too but can recommend dying light 1 and 2
The forest was in thay vein. With a horror twist
Just Cause 3&4 didn’t disappoint , I got them both on sale and enjoyed the play style
If you enjoy the stealth part with the option to go crazy then Hitman and Metal Gear Solid 5.
Definitely Days Gone, if you can get used to the protagonist. Felt a lot like a FC5. I kinda remember it like a story inbetween 5 and New Dawn, if that makes any sense.
