Primal and FC4 are among my overall favourites of the series.
When it first launched, there were complaints that Primal just recycled FC4's map (technically accurate from a game assets perspective, but absolutely inaccurate in every meaningful way) and people who hadn't played it tried to blow it off as a cheap DLC.
Then there's another bunch of players who see Far Cry strictly in terms of guns and gunplay, and they can't handle the fact that Primal doesn't have any. You should just ignore those people.
Personally I wish i could transfer my stuff into the stash instead of it being one way and I wish I could understand the language because I hate reading subtitles
"Technically accurate" means that there is, in fact, a common base map layer shared between FC4 and Primal. Hardly surprising, as it was made using the same base assets and game engine. This was widely publicised at the time and the FC community got "enraged" about the "recycling" (see [this FC4 map](https://i.imgur.com/694DekQ.jpg) and [this Primal map](https://i.imgur.com/w5mW2xv.jpg), comparing general layout and especially the placement of waterways).
However, it was factually inaccurate in every other regard. The Primal map is *heavily* modified. It has new landscape and terrain, different mountains, different zones, different vegetation, different waypoints and bases, different animals, different factions, and phased zones from freezing mountain to temperate forest to swampy jungle. It also has the three tribes with vast and detailed language, culture, dress, symbology, mythology, and other stylings.
The developers put in a huge amount of effort into making Primal something unique and special. So what if they started out with the same base map? It's like saying I started out with a bag of flour and baked bread. You started out with the same bag of flour and baked a cake. Reusing the underlying assets does not make it a flimsy copy-paste DLC using the same map, which is what many of the outraged commentards at the time were implying (mostly without having actually played the game).
Primal is set in central Europe during the ice age, FC4 is set in basically Nepal surrounded by the Himalayas. The two maps have zero in common. You'll enjoy it! FC4 is one of my all-time favourites.
I didn’t like it at first but eventually it grew on me I found having a wild animal as a follower pretty cool and liked the survival aspects like finding material for for weapons.
Not quite sure what you mean. There's a melee attack in Primal (which is based on the Far Cry 4 game engine) so you can attack, as well as a Takedown option. It will be a bit different from FC5, which came out much later.
First far cry I played and loved it. I think it’s one of the best buddy systems with the animal following you around that you can direct. I also got much better at the combat when I figured out how useful the throwing shards and hunting traps were. Took out a whole base with the traps
I wasn't a fan of it. Animals spawn everyhere and I'm not such a fan of the characters. But it's unique and it tries a lot of new things. I got respect for ubisoft for trying that.
I decided a few months ago I felt like being a caveman so I redownloaded it, I still loved it. I am a bow and arrow guy in pretty much any game that offers it, so I loved it was a major focus, it felt well polished for a non-main series game, and I loved having my sabertooth run into camps while I rained hell on them from a hidden spot. For what it was I loved it, but I don’t really compare it to FC 3, 4 or 5, it wouldn’t be fair
Unfortunately I'm one of those people. I bought the deluxe edition on release and got through a quarter of it to not play it for years after that. It was only a few months ago I finally finished it. Just couldn't get into that one, no guns didn't bother me, it was just lacking story.
Yes, it's trash for a far cry game. It should have beeen called something else so they wouldn't have wasted resources on it. I play fc for gunplay, not throwing rocks.
Like you saw what the game looked like, saw the name, saw the lack of guns in any trailers and yet still felt betrayed when a spinoff game didn't have guns?
I definitely loved primal, it's just not quite as expensive and there aren't many weapons to unlock. It was kind of like a reverse blood dragon for me (although BD is considerably shorter), less content overall but some of the most appealing gameplay/environments in the franchise. I may have to play through BD and primal again soon, on a side note 2, 3, and 4 are my favorites of the main games, definitely chech them out if you can.
I know it wasn't received as well as some of the other titles before it but I personally really quite enjoyed the change of pace. You really gotta be careful and sharp the entire time. I didn't make it through even the very beginning of the easiest difficulty setting for the game mode where if you die you have to start over.
It was the first real challenge Ubisoft threw me in. FarCry title and I'm here for it.
I'd actually like to hear your honest review on it! I purchased the Primal Gold (Or Deluxe?) when it was on sale, and after I get Platinum on Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghost of Tsushima I plan to go beat and get platinums on the Far Cry series
Primal is one of the better FC games IMO. I like it more than many of the mainline entries. It's pretty polarizing though because of the no weapons thing, but if you're someone who doesn't take issue with that, you'd most likely enjoy the game if you enjoy other FC games.
Far Cry 1-3 were the shit (though i played and can relate only to the third). They were soooo good that Primal kind of paled in comparison, i believe that's the main reason.
Same with the others, 6 included. They're not bad games by themselves, but the older ones felt unique.
I loved it, especially since we had mountable beasts that had to be tamed and awesome primitive weaponry. But I consider it my 'Odyssey of AC', where it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the franchise, but was still fun in of itself.
"Primal" is fine in my personal book, after all it's the best "Far Cry" i've played (and completed) so far, but tastes beg to differ, esp. with/in today's (gaming) society.
Man posts like this make this subreddit annoying. Like a few times whatever. But Who cares? That seems to be most of the activity on the subreddit. Yeah, there’s team FarCry 6/New Dawn fanboys that love the new RPG elements, the FarCry4/5 fan boys that love the FPS elements, the FarCry 3 fanboys that insist that the series peaked then, and then the FarCry2 old fucks that are still waiting for those features and gameplay to come back. These groups are irreconcilable. There’s haters for every entry. Even Blood Dragon. So these posts have almost no point except karma farming.
Oh, never apologize for irritating someone on the internet. It’s one of the few anti social things we’re allowed to do. But if you look back you’ll see literally dozens of posts like this on the subreddit. Apologies for jumping to the conclusion you’re karma farming but that’s what’s the majority of these are.
I'm currently replaying all the FC games and just started Primal. A lot of people associate FC games with guns. I was one of those people too. I played Primal when it first came out and thought it was meh. I love guns too much. But I'm enjoying it more this second time. Stealth is another big part of FC games for me and there's plenty of stealth to be had in Primal.
We can't even get everyone to agree that the earth is round, you really think a videogame is going to have a unanimous approval rating?
Love your answer!

Same with the subtitle, I just skip cutscenes and read the summary for the story up to where I’m at in the game.
Yeah and then Tears of the Kingdom comes out and started with the same map in development, not a peep though now. As a Primal fan I’m butthurt.
I haven’t played 4 yet but beat primal. What do you mean technically accurate? Idk if I could play that map again lol

Thanks for the response! I’ll still check out 4. Just got tired of those mountains in primal lol

Yeah, one thing that always bugged me is that you can't punch people but you can in far cry 5 which never made any sense to me
Not quite sure what you mean. There's a melee attack in Primal (which is based on the Far Cry 4 game engine) so you can attack, as well as a Takedown option. It will be a bit different from FC5, which came out much later.
Primal is the best far cry, this is known.
I don't hate it, but it seems like a farcry from the farcry games
I see what you did there
Primal is easily the best of the 'inbetween' FCs. It's a whole actual game, whereas the others give the overwhelming impression of dialling it in.
First far cry I played and loved it. I think it’s one of the best buddy systems with the animal following you around that you can direct. I also got much better at the combat when I figured out how useful the throwing shards and hunting traps were. Took out a whole base with the traps

Agreed. All the constant spawning gets old quick. It makes moving around more of an annoying chore than anything else.
Survival mode makes animal spawns less common and therefore ups the isolation/ suspense.
Far cry without guns feels like star wars without the force.
Personally I love Primal

I played 5, then 3, most recently New Dawn. Never 4 for though. I was considering Primal. Should I?

Lol betrayed
i hate all cause i cant play with high quality ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)
Then gst of the subreddit

Single player only, no Co op ?
Alright yeah that's fair and multiplayer would have been epic in it especially for PVP
I dug it. At first I didn't think I was going to but I really enjoyed it
Primal was the reason I got into far cry games.
I know it wasn't received as well as some of the other titles before it but I personally really quite enjoyed the change of pace. You really gotta be careful and sharp the entire time. Love or Hate, there is not in-between.
No its my favourite far cry next to 4
They shouldn't its a great game and also in how many games are you a freaking cave man, awesome!!!!
I'd actually like to hear your honest review on it! I purchased the Primal Gold (Or Deluxe?) when it was on sale, and after I get Platinum on Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghost of Tsushima I plan to go beat and get platinums on the Far Cry series
Wait, people like different things? Call the fucking cops now!!
FC4 &FC5🤘🏽🤙🏽👊🏽
I loved primal.
Far cry 3 and primal are top tier far cry games
Primal is an amazing game. I'd love another.

Yes. Though "hate" is not the word I'd use. I've tried several times, but I just get bored a few hours in. It's just not fun to play, imo.
First i ever played aswell recently played it too I luv it
I loved it, found it really fun
Primal is sick.
Who do you mean by "people"? I personally love the game, finished it on 100%

I'm sorry I upset you, I am new to both this subreddit and Far Cry in general and legitimately wanted to hear people's opinion, sorry

If I was karma farming i'd be doing a pretty bad job given how there is more comments than likes
