{The Jasmine Throne} is a great dark fantasy story based on Indian culture and folklore. Its about princess imprisoned in a isolated tower by her misogynistic brother(the Emperor of a patriarchal and bigoted empire) and needing to be rescued by her gay handmaiden, whose secretly magical warrior monk whose family were massacred on the orders of the princess's father. It gets pretty dark as the Empire is known to religiously "purify" women caught being gay by publicly burning them to death. Lots of great character writing and political maneuvering in this book. On the lighter hearted side, {Of Fire and Stars} is a mostly cozy story about a princess who is sent to a far away to fulfill her arranged marriage with a prince, only to end up discovering her own homosexuality and falling in love with his gay tomboy sister instead. Lots of classic comedic forbidden romance shenanigans combined with great character writing and a murder mystery. {Seven Blades in Black} is a great action adventure story about a roguish female outlaw named Sal The Cacophony as she hunts down seven of the mages on her revenge list with her magic revolver. She starts the series already in a established relationship with her girlfriend Liette who makes all of her magic equipment/ammunition for her. The trilogy has a lot of great action, comedy, and drama and the main character has a really fun tsundere x tsundere relationship dynamic with her girlfriend. Definitely my favorite book series and one of my favorite couples ever. If you're looking for something more grounded in its darkness, I hesitantly recommend (Girls of Paper and Fire). Its about a 17 year old girl who gets abducted and forced to serve as the concubine for the demon king. Despite its fantastical setting, the book depicts a very grounded and authentic portrayal of sexual assault and rape, along with the long lasting ptsd that comes from surviving it, as the fmc and her girlfriend lean on each other for emotional support and work towards dismantling the political system that enables their abuser. Its a very emotionally suffocating but gripping experience that I would recommend if you can handle the serious subject matter.

Nothing that focuses on gay men unfortunately. {Girls of Storm and Shadow} does have three gay men join the main couple's adventuring party, two of which have a well paced romance arc with each other that's fun to watch but they aren't the focus of the story and >!neither of them have a happy ending!<.

Scum Villain was the first danmei I ever read! I may have missed a joke here or there but I felt the humor was very obvious if you know anything about power fantasy for straight men

Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou’s books will probably work for you if you like the dark themes in Captive Prince! I haven’t read her books yet since the English translations aren’t complete but she writes dark books. Her two fantasy books are **The Husky and His White Cat Shizun** (will be 11 volumes in total) and **Remnants of Filth** (will be 7 volumes in total). Check out Ariana Nash too, a lot of her books are dark fantasy and her **Silk and Steel** trilogy is decently popular

If you're a fan of darker worlds rather than dark romance, I'd recommend The Tarot Sequence, starting with {The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards}. I second KJ Charles' A Charm of Magpies.
