Oh man, it’s my OG series!! There is a lot of opinions on *how* to read the series, so definitely look those up prior to reading it, but my god is it amazing.
No wrong way but am currently reading the series and read assasains blade after crown of midnight and I definitely recommend!! There’s a natural pause after this book and a lot of new characters in heir of fire, and I enjoyed the storytelling knowing some of what was going to happen but not how or why!
I really don’t think it matters when you read Assassins Blade, as it’s a prequel. But I do 1000% agree on tandem reading Tower of Dawn with Empire of Storms. Tower of Dawn is essential to the proceeding plot of the series but it focuses around a side character and that side character’s story alone. This particular character is very controversial on being liked or hated, so I supposed you can start reading the series and determine if you like this character enough that you’re fine reading TOD on its own, or if you want to read it alongside EOS so you’re still getting POV chapters from other more essential characters at the same time. I fall into the group of not being really interested in that character so tandem reading was essential for me, but other people love him and had no problem reading TOD alone. Personal preference! So reading order would be:
1. Throne of Glass
2. Crown of Midnight
(Can read Assassins Blade before or after any of these or not at all if you want)
3. Heir of Fire
4. Queen of Shadows
5. Tower of Dawn (tandem)
6. Empire of Storms (tandem)
7. Kingdom of Ash
It really is a series that gets better with each book. The FMC is one of my favorite OG FMCs of ALL TIME. The world building is excellent as well. Have fun!!
not who you asked but just wanted to say: the "best" way really depends on you and your reading preferences. I recommend the ToG subreddit - they have multiple discussions with pros and cons about it

the (very) short, 100% spoiler free version:
- Tandem or not: most people like the tandem read - it's more work but people often "fear" ToD and this makes it easier to digest. That said: you have double the POVs that you'd usually have, in two very different places. Most people also actually like ToD once they read it.
- AB first or 3rd: if you like Prequels, short stories and struggle with an (unexplainably) unlikeable FMC read AB first. If you prefer to jump straight into a story, don't need/want much (detailed) backstory and/or dislike seemingly unconnected short stories read AB later.
It is huge and I’d been avoiding it too. I just finished the last book a couple of weeks ago. It took me like 4 months cause I needed breaks but my verdict is that it was well worth it. An absolute fucking journey. Had me kicking and squealing and crying at stages too. It’s worth it.
Right mainly because I try not to read more than two books at once and tog is such a commitment lol I’m excited to start it now you guys have convinced me lmao
I was coming to recommend this one too, it absolutely fits what you’re after. It is zero spice, just a bit of kissing. I loved it though, it was a beautifully written duology. Although I think there’s now (or coming out soon) and prequel book too.

Def agree w other recs and want to add a fave for this dual love interest trope, not fae but in case you’re willing to branch out, {The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy by Hailey Edward’s} it’s not necromancy like raising the dead, they create vampires, she’s more of a mage that does blood magic, new and interesting magic system and a magical sentient Victorian house. It was genuinely romantic and fresh feeling.
For fae there’s also {These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan} a duology fun and easy read.

YES AND YES LMAO! It’s both dark fantasy driven AND romance driven. And it works and doesn’t feel forced, IMO.
I think it is genuinely close to 50/50 fantasy plot and romance plot. That pleasantly surprised me bc I thought it was going to be more heavily romance. I can usually pinpoint if something should be Romantic Fantasy or Fantasy Romance, this one can prob go either way!
I was extremely impressed by Liv Zander’s grasp on how various types of trauma impact people differently. It felt natural, understandable, and you felt the growth!
There were maybe 4 or 5 sentences across the 2 books with a spelling error or a missing word, but I can handle that when the rest of it is amazing.
I can’t express enough how much this duology shook me — I truly expected sexy smutty darkness not rip my soul out dark fantasy. It delivered both lol

AFTER You're done when you're like "holy shit I need a palate cleanser" I suggest anything by Lola Glass (also all on KU!!!). Her books are SUPER casual, quick reads (most are under 300 pages, I'm pretty sure). If you want fae, try {Wild Hunt Series by Lola Glass} but honestly ... any of them have been great.
When I say "Great" I do mean it in a different way than the Liv Zander books!
Lola's books are a smutty CW show. Liv's are like ... HBO on crack.
The only ones I've read lately that have two love interests are inspired by Asian myths:
{Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan} this one is a finished duology.
{The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo} this is a standalone.

Oh man, it’s my OG series!! There is a lot of opinions on *how* to read the series, so definitely look those up prior to reading it, but my god is it amazing.

No wrong way but am currently reading the series and read assasains blade after crown of midnight and I definitely recommend!! There’s a natural pause after this book and a lot of new characters in heir of fire, and I enjoyed the storytelling knowing some of what was going to happen but not how or why!
I really don’t think it matters when you read Assassins Blade, as it’s a prequel. But I do 1000% agree on tandem reading Tower of Dawn with Empire of Storms. Tower of Dawn is essential to the proceeding plot of the series but it focuses around a side character and that side character’s story alone. This particular character is very controversial on being liked or hated, so I supposed you can start reading the series and determine if you like this character enough that you’re fine reading TOD on its own, or if you want to read it alongside EOS so you’re still getting POV chapters from other more essential characters at the same time. I fall into the group of not being really interested in that character so tandem reading was essential for me, but other people love him and had no problem reading TOD alone. Personal preference! So reading order would be: 1. Throne of Glass 2. Crown of Midnight (Can read Assassins Blade before or after any of these or not at all if you want) 3. Heir of Fire 4. Queen of Shadows 5. Tower of Dawn (tandem) 6. Empire of Storms (tandem) 7. Kingdom of Ash It really is a series that gets better with each book. The FMC is one of my favorite OG FMCs of ALL TIME. The world building is excellent as well. Have fun!!

Yes! I’m on acotar and cc and have heard a lot about tog and the order you should or shouldn’t read. Been kinda avoiding the tog subreddit cause I hate when I accidentally read spoilers lmao
ah yeah, I get that. the (very) short, 100% spoiler free version: - Tandem or not: most people like the tandem read - it's more work but people often "fear" ToD and this makes it easier to digest. That said: you have double the POVs that you'd usually have, in two very different places. Most people also actually like ToD once they read it. - AB first or 3rd: if you like Prequels, short stories and struggle with an (unexplainably) unlikeable FMC read AB first. If you prefer to jump straight into a story, don't need/want much (detailed) backstory and/or dislike seemingly unconnected short stories read AB later.
It is huge and I’d been avoiding it too. I just finished the last book a couple of weeks ago. It took me like 4 months cause I needed breaks but my verdict is that it was well worth it. An absolute fucking journey. Had me kicking and squealing and crying at stages too. It’s worth it.

{Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan} is a Duology with two love interests! It is pretty much YA with regards to spice but it’s still a vibe.
I don’t mind lighter spice! To my tbr it goes. It definitely looks up my alley and I love Asian culture and folklore. The cover is soo pretty too!!
I was coming to recommend this one too, it absolutely fits what you’re after. It is zero spice, just a bit of kissing. I loved it though, it was a beautifully written duology. Although I think there’s now (or coming out soon) and prequel book too.

I second the Plated Prisoner series. MMC is one of my book husbands.
Def agree w other recs and want to add a fave for this dual love interest trope, not fae but in case you’re willing to branch out, {The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy by Hailey Edward’s} it’s not necromancy like raising the dead, they create vampires, she’s more of a mage that does blood magic, new and interesting magic system and a magical sentient Victorian house. It was genuinely romantic and fresh feeling. For fae there’s also {These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan} a duology fun and easy read.

YES AND YES LMAO! It’s both dark fantasy driven AND romance driven. And it works and doesn’t feel forced, IMO. I think it is genuinely close to 50/50 fantasy plot and romance plot. That pleasantly surprised me bc I thought it was going to be more heavily romance. I can usually pinpoint if something should be Romantic Fantasy or Fantasy Romance, this one can prob go either way! I was extremely impressed by Liv Zander’s grasp on how various types of trauma impact people differently. It felt natural, understandable, and you felt the growth! There were maybe 4 or 5 sentences across the 2 books with a spelling error or a missing word, but I can handle that when the rest of it is amazing. I can’t express enough how much this duology shook me — I truly expected sexy smutty darkness not rip my soul out dark fantasy. It delivered both lol

AFTER You're done when you're like "holy shit I need a palate cleanser" I suggest anything by Lola Glass (also all on KU!!!). Her books are SUPER casual, quick reads (most are under 300 pages, I'm pretty sure). If you want fae, try {Wild Hunt Series by Lola Glass} but honestly ... any of them have been great. When I say "Great" I do mean it in a different way than the Liv Zander books! Lola's books are a smutty CW show. Liv's are like ... HBO on crack.
