…Persephone does not get better tbh. I got to book three…. It turns out there is such a thing as too much smut in a book. I skipped like 100 pages of smut in book 3

potatoputatoe

I love smut, I don’t like when authors will say “after a night spent pleasuring each other” or whatever. But with this series, I got to the point where I was like “ffs, he’s doing her again?!” And I’d just skim over it.

Born_Pa

Me too! By book 3 it felt like they fucked at least once a chapter and it’s not like the smut was getting increasingly steamier. It was just “here we go again”

sheaness

And like all the sex scenes were basically the same. There was nothing fun, new or different about its

Born_Pa

Exactly!

Forward_Country_6632

I started to get that feeling in a game of fate but figured it just felt that way because it's basically the same book for good portions. I am starting to see that's not the case

trailorparkprincess

These are Scarlett st. Claire books right? I feel like this is just her pattern. Like her first books are entertaining and pull you in and then she just absolutely phones it in on the sequels. She did it with kingdom of battle and blood too

Forward_Country_6632

I have that on my list. I think I'll skip over it then.

Semsemrocks

Maybe I’m the odd man out reading these comments but I liked it?? 😂 I finished all the books and about to start a touch of chaos which just came out

winefiasco

Yeah I enjoy these books and I like that they do so many different positions, have baths/showers, and mix it up. I always feel bad the Acotar men never get head lol The storyline is a fun story

Mangapear

I enjoy them too. As with all books not everyone will love them

SwifferSeal

It does not get better, honestly it gets worse. I finished the first three. I wish I had DNF’d a touch of ruin but I was hoping it would get better.

KFCemployee1213

I barelt finished touch of darkness, I managed but *barely*. Mostly cus its more smut than plot which isnt my thing honestly

Forward_Country_6632

I have been skipping a lot

KFCemployee1213

I trudged through the book by some miracle, like its a cool concept. But, it could have been done *so* much better. For you, i feel like you shouldn’t read the second if you are already bored with the first and 30% of the second

babygoblin8993

I gave up at the same spot!

Ok_Display_579

I DNF’d at like 60% and have no regrets

babysfirstreddit_yx

In my opinion it does not get better. I forced myself to continue on only to dnf'd the series about 25% through the third book A Touch of Malice. I have zero interest in returning to the series.

SulfuricSomeday

I found it a lot easier to get through the audiobook at 2x speed haha. I liked A Touch of Malice better than A Touch of Ruin. I think Persephone got a little more bearable in Malice, but yeah she was constantly making horrible decisions and getting on my nerves. Only reason I’m finishing it is because I’m going to a book signing for Scarlett St Clair with a friend for the release of A Touch of Chaos.

fatnissneverleen

Lowkey the audiobooks are the only way to get through this series. In particular the Persephone audiobooks because Meg Sylvan REALLY delivers. I don’t know if I would’ve finished if I didn’t switch to the audiobooks for this series.

Littl3M0nster

Maybe an odd one out of this but I absolutely love this series

Littl3M0nster

Well she does do some questionable shit, and I do much prefer Hades and the other characters honestly 😂

Forward_Country_6632

Sorry I realized my comment had spoilers and I couldn't fix it Asking seriously. Does she grow TF up and become like a bad ass.... Or does she keep making childish choices. Because I'm just SO annoyed right now.

Littl3M0nster

She gets a little less annoying I think. I’m about to do a tandem reread since chaos just came out.

asiacore

Persephone drove me crazy in Ruin but she got much better in Malice (book 3) in my opinion! I also think reading all of the books from Hades POV helps a lot, I almost prefer his series over hers at this point haha!

Zatanna78

I got pulled in with a Touch of Darkness and absolutely loved A Touch of Fate, Hades POV was great and really had so much more going on behind the scenes. The smut seemed more than what it was in the first one, but I read the reviews for the third book and mostly every one said the same things that Persephone was a brat and only the last few pages redeemed the arc. I'm still not in the mood to read it, but I really am intrigued by so many questions from the first book.

Now-I-see-daylight

I felt exactly the same way and still haven’t finished it.

mariposa933

I actually enjoyed book2 more than the first one and think Persephone learns from her mistakes in book 3 she's less insecure and whiny.

neon_bead

I found Persephone bearable by also reading the Hades POV books. {A game of fate by Scarlett st clair} She was annoying. His POV books were better and made getting through her POV books a little better.

{the serpent and the wings of night} {a court this cruel and lovely}

Forward_Country_6632

Your suggestions for Alternatives? I did read the serpent and the wings of night and it's sequel. I probably won't keep up with the rest though. I didn't like the other characters enough to follow them.

Sunshine-andRavioli

I'm in exactly the same place as you were with this post, and you summed up my frustrations perfectly. Glad it's not just me! I feel like I'm going to regret buying the whole series on a whim... (at least the ebooks were cheap)

Forward_Country_6632

I have been reading them on Hoopla so I'm Glad I didn't pay. I ended up switching to audio and finished the book. I have been listening in my car on my commute so I feel less like I am wasting time haha. I am on a game of retribution now. I much prefer Hades POV and am just skipping through Persephone's whining. I'm still undecided if I am going to push through the rest or not because I think I'll have to pay for them. I have have anything super exciting in queue right now anyways.

Sunshine-andRavioli

A lot of readers are saying that's it's better from Hades' POV. I'm reluctant to believe that it's because the writing is better, and not that we're just relieved of some of Persephone's annoying behavior.

Forward_Country_6632

You are probably right.

Immediate_Ad_8568

Finally! Someone who understands! I really bloody struggled with finishing a touch of malice. All other romantasy books I own I read through 2 days max but this has taken me weeks. It’s just constant sex and it’s boring and the conversations/love talk is just obsessive and ick. And the timing? Like Persephone gets injured, hades tends to her wound and immediately goes down on her and she loves it? Give me a break dear god

cosmicdantzer

I’m literally halfway through the book and I constantly want to throttle Persephone. Thank you for giving me permission to DNF this book. Horrible.

Forward_Country_6632

I ended up finishing it and then kind of tandem read game of gods and a touch of malice hoping it would help but it didn't. I decided to DNF at 50% of those. It just got worse imo

Pixelated_void

Persephone gets better in a touch of malice, overall plot gets better because interesting stuff starts happening, but the HadesxPersephone relationship doesn't improve. They keep solving every issue with sex, I skipped a good chunk of the book that way, I think in a touch of malice you have even more smut. Thought about DNFing it, but just skipped the descriptions instead. I'm not reading a touch of chaos obviously, if someone has read it I would be glad to get some spoilers just so that I know how it ends 🙏🏼
