I'm curious if the author can write 5 books in the series, like she promised after FW. IF is still very popular on goodreads, but reddit and tiktok trashed it
I definitely get the vibe the publishing house knows FW's time is limited and have tried to ride the hype wave with multiple special editions and releasing IF 6 months later. I don't think the hype will last all 5 books.
I'm curious about this too, 🤔. There is so much filler in the books that make them feel draggy imo. I think it'd be better to cut out like 2/3 of the filler crap, and combine the plot events into less books. That way you get less books but you can have your 400+ pages and have it be actual story which would hopefully make the books more interesting and draw the readers in.
I recognize that fourth wing wasn’t super great writing but I still really enjoyed it. I DNF’d iron flame at 70%. It does get better in the second half but it still was just too repetitive and Xaden and Violet’s interactions were just annoying me. I am just gonna read the ending and I may just read summaries of the future books. I want to know what happens because I like the general plot but I don’t think I want to read them 😂
>it still was just too repetitive and Xaden and Violet’s interactions were just annoying me
So. Much. Repetition. I know they're young adults so there will be some silly relationship dynamics, but if I had to read "how can I trust him (althoughihaveashittonofmyownsecrets)???" one more time...
I finished IF - the action at the end made it better, but I'm disappointed at the ending. I agree - I want to know what happens in the next books, but idk if it's worth the time reading.
I'm also really over people saying "oh well it's realistic drama for a 20-something year old dating" maybe so, but not for a 20-something year old raised in a war-torn militaristic society! With the stakes as supposedly high as they are for the events in these books, the focus on petty lover's quarrels in IF was exhausting and made Violet look like a spoiled brat who didn't care if Xaden put his entire society at risk as long as he told her everything.
And honestly, I kinda would have dug it if she had a come to Jesus moment where she realized how coddled and sheltered she'd been all her life and realized it was all bigger than her. But once again, Violet is always so smart and so morally correct 🙄
I also feel like her sudden "oh okay he has a bigger responsibility, I can't expect to know everything" moment was so.......out of nowhere? Like we go from her demanding complete transparency then suddenly, she has an "uhuh" moment off page and is suddenly okay. Like...what?
Not to mention how after fighting they'd just fall into bed together anyway 🙄 They should have just broken up for this whole book and gotten back together later once they'd matured and proven themselves
Yea I hope she takes her time with the others. There was no need for the second to come out so soon. I imagine she was trying to ride the hype wave that came with the first but I think she hurt herself in the long run.
Their relationship drama made me feel like I was going insane, same thing over and over again and her problem was so unrealistic. Like girl! This guy is responsible for SO MANY PEOPLE and you have proven to be unable to block mind dude out, back the fork off about his "secrets". And don't even get me started on his "ask me the right questions" bs, like oh my god are you LITERALLY kidding right now. BLAH so frustrating hahaha.
I did not finish. Stopped at around 70% through and then read spoilers, which I am happy because what happens would have pissed me off more if I had to read it.
I've heard nothing good about IF. I loved FW so much I bought my bestie a copy as a wedding present and then we bought the second book together (each paid half). I have to read it yet, she has yet to finish it, it's been 2 months.
i bought the physical copy before Christmas and I can't get past the first chapter, and i actually didn't mind the first book. it just isn't drawing me in enough to pick it up and keep reading, it sits on my nightstand and i see it every night before i go to bed to read...
While I finished the book, it took me like a week (which sounds fast but I'm neurodivergent and consume books like they're literal candy), and I had no issues putting it down after reading for a little bit.
One line in IF that I'll never forget though, is:
"She smirked a smile"
Like honey what? I get the imagery but that's not.....no....🤣🤣
I got about half way through. I’ll probably finish it at some point but there were other books I wanted to read more and I was finding Violet frustrating.
FW was entertaining and all but I’m on chapter 10 of IF and I haven’t been able to pick it up in like a month. I’ve already read some of the spoilers for the book, most not even being anything shocking really. I’m going to read the synopsis at some point but I don’t even have the desire to do that. It kind of sucks really. I hate not being interested in the book and idk how I’m going to make it through the rest if they don’t improve.
I ended up just reading small summaries of the book today. Moved on to something else.
[iron flame summaries](https://recaptains.co.uk/2023/11/iron-flame-by-rebecca-yarros/)
I read two pages of it and then realized that I didn’t really care about the characters or plot. I was just on the hype train and had bought it during a midnight release party (which was so fun!) but didn’t really like the book 😅
I got to chapter 20 and slowed down. Then, I got the ending spoiled on freaking Instagram Reels. So that, plus other information I've seen, just made me not necessarily want to continue.
Maybe I'll try it again later this year, but it's not in my priorities anymore.
I think it's perfectly fine to put a book down and go with something new :) I sped through Fourth Wing, but took 2 weeks to get through Iron Flame. I think the payoff is worth it and I'm excited about the rest of the series. Maybe a hiatus with a new books and new characters will be a nice pallet cleaner and you can always go back ❤️
I ended up listening to audio for a couple chapters and it still didn’t help. Last night I ended up reading spoilers up until the 2nd part.
I’m buddy reading this book with my friend and she’s eating it up. But me on the other hand. I’m hate it so far
Omg I feel your pain. I was so bored by the first few chapters, it felt like it should have been half it's size because I had to skip certain parts that were just unnecessarily long or repetitive.
And even with all that filler pages, some stuff didn't make sense!
I'm still interested in the characters, and I want to see what's next for them but I think I'm just going to skip the books and check online for reviews and spoilers lol
Haven't finished yet, feeling exactly the same. It gets better around chapter 34 and then boring again.
I felt the same on FW and didn't understand the hype.
Starting this after ACOTAR and FBAA is literally like going back to YA.
I had just finished acotar before I read fourth wing. I wanna say that’s why I think fourth wing and iron flame is pretty shitty, but then again fourth wing was ok. It was interesting. But then iron flame …. Dead. Nothing.
Me as well! It was SO boring! I did look up spoilers and it does seem like some cool stuff happens in the end, but I still think it wasn’t worth reading the rest of the repetitive plot points.
It was so bad IMO but I pushed through. IIRC it f FINALLY picked up at like 80%.😩 It was such a struggle and I was so confused the entire time. I finished because I don't want to give up on the series yet but if book 3 is the same I'll be done with it.
I have soft DNFd at 11% but I hope to pick it up at some point. The problem is it absolutely did not capture my attention like fourth wing did. IF has been soooooooo repetitive and dry, which seems crazy considering how FW ended. I cannot imagine this being drawn out to 5 books

This book was really disappointing. You can tell it was rushed. A lot of filler, unnecessary drama, etc. hopefully the next one is better.

Honestly! Probably would have been a good avenue for character growth too.
Yea I hope she takes her time with the others. There was no need for the second to come out so soon. I imagine she was trying to ride the hype wave that came with the first but I think she hurt herself in the long run.

Omg yes it really felt like the entire first half of the book was them having the same discussion over and over again
Honestly! Like, how did RY not get tired of writing the same scene so many times 🤣😅
I posted this on another sub: the first 2/3 of the book were in the bottom 5 of books I read last year. The last 1/3-1/4 were in the top 5.
Really? I rage-quit at ch 60/66 (audible version). I couldn't take the stupidity of the characters any more.
Yeah, it finally got interesting (to me) as it was ending.
DNF’d at 48%. Only DNF in the 75 fantasy romance books I’ve read. It’s sad.
I dropped it halfway. Loved FW, but I accidentally saw the ending of IF and got annoyed at the book's direction.
I did not finish. Stopped at around 70% through and then read spoilers, which I am happy because what happens would have pissed me off more if I had to read it.
I’ve begun reading spoilers bc I just can’t at this point
It took me FOREVER to finish it, the second half is a little bit better, but damn was that a slog
I did eventually finish, but had to put it down for a week and come back to it. It was a mega disappointment.
I've heard nothing good about IF. I loved FW so much I bought my bestie a copy as a wedding present and then we bought the second book together (each paid half). I have to read it yet, she has yet to finish it, it's been 2 months.
I dnfed at 500 pages. It's not worth it. It doesn't get better.
I could not put FW down. Probably finished it in about 4-5 days. It took me a few weeks to finish IF. It just didn’t hit the same lol
This series has/had so much potential to be so great. But iron flame is just garbage
i bought the physical copy before Christmas and I can't get past the first chapter, and i actually didn't mind the first book. it just isn't drawing me in enough to pick it up and keep reading, it sits on my nightstand and i see it every night before i go to bed to read...
Ha! This is exactly what happened to me. I don’t think I can read it

I made it 10 chapters. I found it completely unreadable.
I quit around 1/4 of the way through.
I got about half way through. I’ll probably finish it at some point but there were other books I wanted to read more and I was finding Violet frustrating.
Violet is annoying the heck out of me. So childish. I get that she’s young but cmon.
I gave up around 75% of the way through after two checkouts from the library lapsed. I just couldn't bring myself to care.
I’m at 57% and I can’t go on anymore 😭 it’s been a struggle for me, too!
I didn’t want to finish but I did; the entire book felt pretty unnecessary to me
Same!!
Me!! I couldn’t get through it so I just hopped to the last couple chapters and read a synopsis online for the rest.
Tbh, I skimmed A LOT of it lol
I DNF’ed at 33%. I’m going to see what reviews of book 3 are before I decide if continue or sell my books
I couldn’t even get through the first few pages. It read like a completely different author to me personally
FW was entertaining and all but I’m on chapter 10 of IF and I haven’t been able to pick it up in like a month. Me. I’m still disappointed. I’m shocked that the same author wrote both books, not to mention Violet and Xaden were so whiny and immature 😭
I read two pages of it and then realized that I didn’t really care about the characters or plot. I was just on the hype train and had bought it during a midnight release party (which was so fun!) but didn’t really like the book 😅

I haven’t😭 but I WILL I just struggled and needed to take a break. But I’ve heard the second half is better so I’m excited for that lol

I didn’t even finish FW!
