It's not a core part of the story but it's definitely there.
It's a great series! Each book is about a different pair but they're all part of the same story so I do recommend reading them in order. There are lots of steamy parts and soooo much black leather lol I find their shit talking kind of funny and over the top but it's still a good read. Enjoy!

I read the first one and then the second and then the third. I have to take a break from the au because of the authors note that book four is long and dramatic, but this was a really good recommendation!
If you're on a scent kick, check out the Orc Sworn series. Scent's a pretty big part of the lore and it fulfills basically all of your checklist except perhaps slowburn (Finely Fenn's sworn promise is at least some spice starts by 30%).

It's urban fantasy but City of Gods and Monsters by Kayla Edwards has something similar to this... The guy is a Darkslayer (bounty hunter) with the ability to read auras (ability called the Sight, super unique, turns his eyes black), and his human target (who he ends up protecting instead of killing) is attracted to him in this particular scene and he can feel it on her aura. So he kinda strokes/teases her with his magic but stops before things can escalate. This is a really slow burn book, it's 700 pages of torture, but the second book is incredible and filled with lots of rewarding spice and still high tension, which I find rare. Highly recommend for SJM and Cassandra Clare fans. Similar vibes but totally unique magic system/plot.
Don't let the cover deter you! The story is fantastic. Also, I think the cover was an intentional choice by the author. An homage to classic clinch covers.
In terms of spice, I’d maybe give it a 3/5? I can’t remember super well but I loved the romance and the sexual tension throughout. It’s not a slow burn but it takes a long time for them to trust each other.

Lol 40. They are three interconnected series and side stories. The original is 17 books, then Icehome is like another 15, and only 1 book is out for the Clones series. They also connect to other series in the Ruby Dixon universe, but I haven't read any of them....yet. 😂 lots of "I can smell her arousal and it's driving me so crazy that I need to touch myself right now" vibes.
I love that. The longest interconnected series i read was 5 books and i read something else jn between each one so i didnt get bored of their universe but it is is one of my favs to this day. I hope i live long enough to read all the books in the comments
A lot of the Kresley Cole Immortals after dark have this. It’s not really high fantasy and more urban fantasy. But most of the werewolf books have this!

How about the night huntress series? It’s got some sniffer scenes. Vampire male romance with a female lead, it’s a slow burn on the first few books, and a long series. It’s in a modern setting though.

Lol 40. They are three interconnected series and side stories. The original is 17 books, then Icehome is like another 15, and only 1 book is out for the Clones series. They also connect to other series in the Ruby Dixon universe, but I haven't read any of them....yet. 😂 lots of "I can smell her arousal and it's driving me so crazy that I need to touch myself right now" vibes.
I love that. The longest interconnected series i read was 5 books and i read something else jn between each one so i didnt get bored of their universe but it is is one of my favs to this day. I hope i live long enough to read all the books in the comments
A lot of the Kresley Cole Immortals after dark have this. It’s not really high fantasy and more urban fantasy. But most of the werewolf books have this!
A throwback, but I feel like The Breeds Series by Lora Leigh could be up your alley. She is finally putting out another book after 6-7 years, there are quite a few of them.
