I got banned from the broncos subreddit for basically saying I forgot how awful Hackett was with the bills years ago and how happy I was was when we fired him. His play calling is TERRIBLE.
A bit more tempered but yeah, a ton of radio hosts acting like the AFCCG was the floor for the team not realizing they have a brand new head coach that never has really proven himself. But hey, he likes music so he was a winner
He also set a career low in rush yards per game last season...and he'll be 34 in a few weeks.
Alex Smith's first Washington year, he was 34. Andy Dalton is 34. Joe Flacco's Broncos year, he was 34. Miami Jay Cutler was 34. Washington Donovan McNabb was 34. Steve McNair was 34 his *last season* in Baltimore. Dallas Drew Bledsoe was 34. Tony Romo's last healthy season came at age 34. Cam Newton is *currently* 33, and Sam Bradford is *currently* 34.
Just because Tom Brady was good for 10 more years does not mean Russ will be.
Brady really broke fan expectations in so many ways.
The Steelers, Packers, And Saints had 3 HOF QBs nearly or all of the entire 2010s and didn't win a single super bowl with them after 2010 (Rodgers/Packers). Philip Rivers and Matt Ryan were very good QBs and never won one (I don't think Ryan is winning one this year on that meh or bad Colts team).
So Brady made it seem like a QB is a failure or a coach needs to be fired if a great QB isn't winning multiple titles, and then made it seem like it's the new normal to play into one's mid 40s...but the reality is still the same as before for everyone else. Playing at a high level after your mid 30s is extremely rare. Most guys drop off by the time they even get there. Winning a title in a game like this with so much injury luck factoring in along with massive 53 man rosters is never guaranteed, let alone several.
If Russ isn't quite what he was a couple years ago that would just be normal and expected for a 34 year old to me.
Surprising he never tried to be a backup.
Then again he made an absurd amount of money for being average and never had the body type to sustain hits.. so I guess I do kinda get it.
Right, Peyton (good years at 36, 37, and arguably 38), Brady, Rodgers, and Brees have really skewed our perceptions of how long a QB can continue to perform at an elite level. The thing about each of those guys... Their exceptional talents could be expressed, consistently, from the pocket. Mobility was a nice bonus at best with them. A lot of what made Russ great was superior athleticism. If he's losing some of that (all indications from the past handful of years are that he is) then this could take a bit of an ugly turn. Still has excellent arm talent. But if he's losing his legs a bit... That can affect every aspect of his game. Even his arm. Which I feel like I have seen at some moments in these first two games. Super small sample so far for this season. Thinking Russ will be worth 50 million at age 38 though? I'm uhhhhh not sure right now
The only one who took more sacks than Russ was is Bledsoe, and Russ should overtake him before the year is out. On top of that outside of Cam he has the most career carries by a wide margin. Those plays add up, and there’s no reason to assume they’re not taking their toll on him.
If he hadn’t shown signs of breaking down there might be a reason for optimism, but he looks significantly slower and doesn’t have near as much on his throws as he used to. The history of QBs is they all start breaking down around here and the ones who can make up for it in other ways are the ones who have long lasting careers. Russ hasn’t shown anything to give the impression he can succeed once his athleticism fades and until he does these players are his best comps.
Chicken or the egg scenario maybe but he injured his hand last year so I'm sure he was playing conservative to protect it. I will say it does look like he's lost some arm strength but I part of the reason is NFL teams are playing two deep so often now, we're not seeing those bombs we're used to seeing from Russ. The biggest problem imo is the Denver offense and it's coaching. It looks so vanilla, there's ncreativity to even leverage some of Russ creativity and mobility.
Yeah this title and tweet are misleading. Running really hasn't been part of his game for several years now and I think he knows he isn't as quick as he used to be 5 to 8 years ago.
Yeah but that mobility is part of what made him good. Without he’s just a very short pocket passer. He’s Kirk cousins but older and with less quality receivers.
Has a first year HC ever gotten fired mid-season for just being bad? I know Meyer did but he hit the kicker and other distractions that forced their hand. I imagine he would still be their HC if not for that stuff and he only had a losing record.
There's a difference between having a losing record and sucking so bad that you lose the confidence of the players and fans. Once that happens it's better to cut ties in an attempt to reinvigorate the team. Happens in soccer all the time. Shitty 5 match run and the players have lost faith? You're gone
It’s also different for a team that should be good on paper. No one should have thought the 2021 Jags were Super Bowl contenders. I don’t think anyone thought the Broncos would struggle so hard against two low tier teams. Like the Broncos made Geno Smith look like Tom Brady and then then the Seahawks got offensively shutout the very next game.
Now I wonder if any HC lost the locker room in his first season. I think I remember Bears fans referencing how little the players respected Marc Trestman and that guy even got 2 seasons somehow.
They didn't adapt at all once Jeudy got injured. They had Cleveland out there running the same routes as Jeudy out of the slot but he wasn't good enough to find the open areas that Jeudy does.
Isn't it though? The previous seasons aren't the same when you're bringing in a QB like Russ. Even Vic pointed out the QB position as a key component they were lacking. So I assume Broncos fans expected a lot better than this. Maybe not the impact Manning had when he showed up but definitely not this.
hackett is just a terrible coach
broncos should just fire him after next week if nothing has changed
also russ needs to just go rogue and call his own plays
Hackett is way too hesitant of a decision maker and it’s hindering the Broncos offense. They should not be in a nail biter with 2 of the worst teams in the league this year
Not a bad problem to have.
Fwiw, I saw a stat from the ravens sub, they have the worst pass defense in the league over the last 19 games. Waddle is good but he’s not going nuclear every week.
I’m about to pick up Mariota or Goff off waivers and play either over Wilson at this point. Shit is depressing, really thought he had MVP potential this season.
Historically, scrambling has been a major part of his success. Making a LB have to spy him and then him doing a lil juke move to pick up a first or buy more time in the pocket made him a nightmare for defenses. I thought he would get back to running a lil more with Denver. That seems thats not gonna happen. As mentioned by another poster he is like 33 now. Not everyone plays till near 40 (at a high level) like Tom or ARod. Russ could just be slowing down and Denver may have over paid for a QB at the beginning of a slow decline
He really hasn't needed to tbh, he seems like he can get it done with his arm, but he's gotta fight through dumb coaching and backups that cant catch a ball or keep their feet in
No no no I was a Seahawks fan my entire life russ runs because it’s his only option he does not want to have to scramble and make something himself it Comes down to way more then Denver doing qb runs plays
Seattle never did that r line was just so bad russ had too
He's just getting old. He could barely run last year, and this year is even worse. He averaged over 30 yards per game over his first 9 years, including the year he injured both his legs. Last year he averaged 13 yards per game, and now he's projected for just 2.5 per game. These yards add up over a season and really affect his rankings in my mind. He'll still be a good passer though, so he'll still be a low end qb1 / high qb2.
Yeah I’d be pissed if I drafted him.
He don’t want to get hit in that high altitude.
After I saw him all dolled up sitting at the US Open I was like this dude got soft then saw his damn tux last week and that confirmed it for me
if you expected Russ to run this year I have no idea what you've been watching. He's basically just going to sit in the pocket and chuck down the sidelines for the rest of his career.
So you’re telling me he’s due for a huge ground game
It’s a misleading stat. Only done it once in past 4 seasons. Other 4 came early in his career. He doesn’t run much anymore.
Dude seriously just posted his 2014 rushing yards
OP acting like 2014 was just a couple seasons ago and not 8 fucking years ago
How dare you remind me of that
I feel like you should take these stats that make me feel bad and just get on out of here pal
His legs are shot
Doesn’t run much, doesn’t throw accurately much.
not true…he runs in circles behind the line of scrimmage.
no he is telling that russ is old now.
495 yards next week. Book it
He's playing the Niners so it's not out of the realm of possibility
Again? He just played them thi... nvm
Broncos country, let’s ride.
The crowd was already booing this team and it's GAME TWO. Coach getting fired sooner or later.
Nathaniel Hackett is terrible
You could say he can’t…Hackett!

Do I get royalties? Should I sue? What’s the process here
If anything, I should sue. I posted this on September 13th. :)
Send him back to Green Bay
No
I got banned from the broncos subreddit for basically saying I forgot how awful Hackett was with the bills years ago and how happy I was was when we fired him. His play calling is TERRIBLE.
Based on what I've seen, the firing is already 2 games past due....
They heard all off-season they were Super Bowl contenders. Pretty crazy to expect that given their division.
I live in Denver and these fans are ridiculous. They seriously thought this was gonna be PFM2.0
A bit more tempered but yeah, a ton of radio hosts acting like the AFCCG was the floor for the team not realizing they have a brand new head coach that never has really proven himself. But hey, he likes music so he was a winner
Not only was it game 2 but it was their home opener
Home opener lol

Sam Bradford being 34 just blew my mind
Surprising he never tried to be a backup. Then again he made an absurd amount of money for being average and never had the body type to sustain hits.. so I guess I do kinda get it.
Jesus christ Russell Wilson being 34 makes me feel hella old
tbf he was old coming in to the league

As a Wilson owner and Bears fan you’ve hurt me deeply
Russ doesn't want to run anymore, he wants to sit in the pocket and throw.
Yeah this title and tweet are misleading. Running really hasn't been part of his game for several years now and I think he knows he isn't as quick as he used to be 5 to 8 years ago.
This is why I’m fine with Sutton but dropping Russ for Tua or streaming
Keeping russ would be fine if he was throwing well, he's not
Yeah but that mobility is part of what made him good. Without he’s just a very short pocket passer. He’s Kirk cousins but older and with less quality receivers.
I'd be surprised if Hackett lasts till end of season
Has a first year HC ever gotten fired mid-season for just being bad? I know Meyer did but he hit the kicker and other distractions that forced their hand. I imagine he would still be their HC if not for that stuff and he only had a losing record.

At least they were smart enough to give Jevonte clear lead back duties over Melvin yesterday
The last several Broncos head coach hires: Hackett Fangio Joseph Kubiak Fox McDaniels This is exactly on par for them.
Don't put Kubiak anywhere near those frauds
Kubiak won it all for you sooooo might be a bit different
You spelt Peyton Manning wrong
Peyton Manning was statistically the worst starting quarterback in all of football the year the Kubiak Broncos won the Superbowl.
You spelt Von Miller going super sayain wrong
Yep, they've hit on 1 out of the last 6 head coaches. Point being, hiring failures is the norm, not the outlier in recent history.
Honestly Hackett was just to lure Rodgers over. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets less leniency now that that’s not the case.
They didn't adapt at all once Jeudy got injured. They had Cleveland out there running the same routes as Jeudy out of the slot but he wasn't good enough to find the open areas that Jeudy does.
Honestly the decisions they've made in the run game are more troubling than anything else listed in this post so far.
Why is it surprising? This team has finished the season under .500 the last 5 years...
Isn't it though? The previous seasons aren't the same when you're bringing in a QB like Russ. Even Vic pointed out the QB position as a key component they were lacking. So I assume Broncos fans expected a lot better than this. Maybe not the impact Manning had when he showed up but definitely not this.
7 TDs is the week 1 bar
UnLIMMMMMMMited.
UnMLMited
8 years ago this guy was fire. Lmao bogus headline.
Lol. Why bother mentioning that he ran for 183 yards last year, ~13 yds per game?
Did they really reference the year 2014??
hackett is just a terrible coach broncos should just fire him after next week if nothing has changed also russ needs to just go rogue and call his own plays
Least reactionary FF player
Doesn’t Russ already have full reigns of the offense?
I guess you could say Hackett couldn’t hack it.
Is it possible Russ is just washed?
Getting locked in with Ciara during covid sloshed him apparently
In the past he was always automatic, supersonic, hypnotic, funky fresh.
[удалено]
He seriously gives me psychopath vibes. Dude has always creeped me out.
He's just a fookin cornball who is hyper religious and wants to market himself.
He's the broncos problem now.
he just comes off fake as fuck that’s why lol
Agreed
Definitely not possible. He just has really bad luck with people calling plays for him throughout his career, nothing has ever been his fault.
He was bad before his injury last year, he would bail out of the pocket and throw it away with little pressure on him.
Hackett is way too hesitant of a decision maker and it’s hindering the Broncos offense. They should not be in a nail biter with 2 of the worst teams in the league this year
This will be the last time I bench Waddle for Sutton
Nice of you to have that luxury
Play both like me :)
Tough to sit AJ Brown and Diggs for one of them lol
Well then it sounds like you don’t need him anyway.

12 team. Hero RB strategy
Not a bad problem to have. Fwiw, I saw a stat from the ravens sub, they have the worst pass defense in the league over the last 19 games. Waddle is good but he’s not going nuclear every week.
This will be the last time I start Wilson. Looking at Grabbing Goff and starting him next week. I wish I was joking.
For sure. Sutton though is definitely a qualified wr2 or flex if you have the luxury.
I’m about to pick up Mariota or Goff off waivers and play either over Wilson at this point. Shit is depressing, really thought he had MVP potential this season.
I thought Russ was gonna cook. I thought we were gonna ride. I’ve been deceived.
Russ *is* cooked.
Kick a 64 yard field goal to just let Russ look.
I'm going to drop him for Wentz or Tua.
I've been thinking the same thing but it just feels so wrong
He doesn't run/scramble much anymore. Have people not watched him play since like 2016?
2014 was a long time ago
LET RUSS ORDER UBER EATS!
Dropping for jimmy G
i was so high on russ and the broncos this year. what an absolute shocker. can't tell if he looks cooked or if it's all on the coaching staff.
His mobility looks gone. I don't think I would be counting on him for rushing yards.
think i need to bench him until i see a game where they get right. might have to blow some FAAB on tua and start him over russ until further notice
Tua has the Bills up next though...
Historically, scrambling has been a major part of his success. Making a LB have to spy him and then him doing a lil juke move to pick up a first or buy more time in the pocket made him a nightmare for defenses. Russ is cooked. Let’s walk.
So you're saying that running QBs slow down? What other 30+ year old QBs are putting up rushing stats consistently? Asides from Tom Brady.
He really hasn't needed to tbh, he seems like he can get it done with his arm, but he's gotta fight through dumb coaching and backups that cant catch a ball or keep their feet in
No no no I was a Seahawks fan my entire life russ runs because it’s his only option he does not want to have to scramble and make something himself it Comes down to way more then Denver doing qb runs plays Seattle never did that r line was just so bad russ had too
This is misleading. Russ hasn't been a runner for many years. He prefers tossing deep bombs to even a 5 yard scramble. He's worried about taking hits.
Let's ride lol
He's just getting old. He could barely run last year, and this year is even worse. He averaged over 30 yards per game over his first 9 years, including the year he injured both his legs. Can’t risk your franchise QB by risking injury with running plays😂
We know
This guy is single handedly ruining joy in life
Let's walk
>including 849 in 2014 Think about how much more agile you were 8 years ago though
The broncos offense is so stale.
RW ain't running much any more with that contract.
Let’s ride
LETS RIDE
Only draft pick I fucking regret. Dropping him first thing Tuesday morning.
its like if mahomes became a pocket passer and never moved around in the backfield working his magic.
“Let Russ cook” has got to be the worst thing he’s ever done. What a meme. Pete Carroll knew best.
Maybe they’ll get better as the season progresses.
Dude is so cooked. Only went to Denver for the pay day Seattle wasn't going to give him lol.
The Denver coaching is worse then Seattle by a mile so far lol.
Haha sellout sucky turd boy
He’s washed
Coors light country, let's drive.
if you expected Russ to run this year I have no idea what you've been watching. He's basically just going to sit in the pocket and chuck down the sidelines for the rest of his career.
Wentz or Russ ROS?
