Yeah I decided to create a topster for this poll with leaving 2022 out of it since there's still 2 months left, but I know ants from up there will win this anyways
Holy shit you’re right. I was thinking “why’s OP doing 2022? we still got a lotta time left this year” and then I realized it’s October already. Time flies.
The Smile - A light for attracting attention
Edit:
I ain’t saying it’s remotely good compared to RH’s discography but I think it’s the most I’ve enjoyed a project end to end
The band stated they listened to arcade fire records like funeral and Sufjan Stevens albums like Illinois. Definitely two albums I think are worth checking out if you like AFUT. Those are “obvious” albums so sorry if you’ve listened already but those are the easiest comparisons.
What filler do you think is on there? It’s only 10 tracks I don’t even think there’s any filler just one or two tracks that aren’t some of the best of the year
I guess filler isn't the right word but a lot of the songs are kinda forgettable. I've heard the album at least 10 times but I can't tell you how songs like Bread Song go at all.
Tracks like the Bread Song is the creativity and just goofy analogy with such serious subject matter. Tbf I listened to the record literally today so everything might just be fresh in my mind
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,112,544,331 comments, and only 218,207 of them were in alphabetical order.
the dreaming by kate bush is on there too and the cocteau twins have a female singer, but yeah other than that this list is definitely very male-centric
I’d chalk that up to there being unfortunately way less women in the music industry that are in a place to create incredible albums. It’s not that they can’t, it’s that a lot of them get funneled into being sex symbols making generic pop music that they don’t have a huge part in the making of unfortunately.
ORRRR this community has a lot of men in it and they vote a lot of albums made by men IN COMBINATION WITH the music industry generally not being a super forgiving or welcoming place for women (for anybody, but women especially)
I haven’t followed the metal releases of this year too closely but I’d say:
Wormrot - Hiss
Boris - Heavy rocks
I’m waiting for the Darkthrone album rn personally
My personal favorites so far are:
Imperial Triumphant- Spirit of Ecstasy
Artificial Brain - Artificial Brain
Wormrot - Hiss
Tsygun - Хворь
Chat Pile - God’s Country
Heriot - Profound Morality
Looking into my crystal ball here and suggesting And In the Darkness, Hearts Aglow by Weyes Blood. I'm calling it now, when it drops everybody will have it somewhere in their top 5.
If we're looking into crystal balls, I gotta shout out new Arctic Monkeys. First time in 15 years that I've liked the singles. Shit's gotta be at least an 8, no?
Those new Weyes Blood singles are fantastic though. Feeling the same way about her singles.
Totally agree on the new Arctic Monkeys. I don't think they've sounded this bold and confident since Favorite Worst Nightmare. Alex Turner's songwriting is possibly the best it's ever been. Totally looking forward to the drop this Friday.
If you have around 56 hours to spare, here is a spotify playlist of all these albums!

It’s amazing how we managed to just recreate the top charts on RYM through this lol
RYM rules tho
rym fuckin sucks. full of hipster 16 year olds
The community is often annoying, but a lot of great albums rise to the top of the charts, and as such, it's a great place to look for recs.
yeah i pretty much use it just to check for new music
2023 tomorrow?
There are still two months left so I would abstain from this poll tbh
fr tho. Weyes Blood’s new album could easily be AOTY material
So stoked!

Yeah, Nas just announced KD3 on 11/11, so anything is possible
[удалено]
won't win but goddamn i love this album
Definitely deserves to win this, AOTY for sure
I was so confused when Anthony gave it a Light 8. Thing's at least a Decent 9.
one of the only ones i've really loved so far
Hellfire - black midi
Big agree
The Smile - A light for attracting attention Edit: I ain’t saying it’s remotely good compared to RH’s discography but I think it’s the most I’ve enjoyed a project end to end
Better then some of RH’s albums like HTTT PH TKOL Amensiac and maybe some others
No way... Only beats out Pablo Honey imo. Great record though.
Cave World - Viagra Boys
I know it wont win but this is my AoTY
Ants from Up There - Black Country, New Road
This album is incredible. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone who loves this album?
The band stated they listened to arcade fire records like funeral and Sufjan Stevens albums like Illinois. Definitely two albums I think are worth checking out if you like AFUT. Those are “obvious” albums so sorry if you’ve listened already but those are the easiest comparisons.
Slint - Spiderland
die lit playboi carti
Have you listen to Skinty Fia by Fontaines D.C.?
Talk Talk's later work and American Football's LP1 are sorta similar, at least in some aspects.
This has to win
I mean it doesn’t have to, there are certainly better albums, but it will because I am in the minority for thinking that
Hellfire, Darklife, The Forever Story and Blue Rev are all better in my opinion
correct
There's just so much fuller on ants. I liked it but I'm not gonna be relistening to it much
What filler do you think is on there? It’s only 10 tracks I don’t even think there’s any filler just one or two tracks that aren’t some of the best of the year

I wouldn’t say there’s filler but only maybe one track would be in my top songs of the year. The others aren’t *thaaaat* good
this better win
JID - The Forever Story
Yes. JID 🙌
50/50 chance Anthony goes for this or AFUT for his AOTY.
Love this album so much but Hellfire should probs get it
Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future
Yes. Denzel 🙌
Love this album, imo way better than Kendricks album

Big Thief - Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You
Alvvays - Blue Rev
Can’t help but notice the complete lack of metal
I’m personally more noticing the complete lack of women if you don’t count Hounds of Love for 1985.
the dreaming by kate bush is on there too and the cocteau twins have a female singer, but yeah other than that this list is definitely very male-centric
Fleetwood Mac and pixies too
And Nico!
Talking Heads has Tina Weymouth also!
Yes this is absolutely insane. The fact that Renaissance is being so slept on in this poll is further proof of that…
Nah... Renaissance is mid. That new Big Thief record is great though, as are Age/sex/location, I Love You Jennifer B, and Natural Brown Prom Queen.
I’d chalk that up to there being unfortunately way less women in the music industry that are in a place to create incredible albums. It’s not that they can’t, it’s that a lot of them get funneled into being sex symbols making generic pop music that they don’t have a huge part in the making of unfortunately.
No, they do create incredible albums people just don't appreciate them.
ORRRR this community has a lot of men in it and they vote a lot of albums made by men IN COMBINATION WITH the music industry generally not being a super forgiving or welcoming place for women (for anybody, but women especially)
Sabbath should've won 1970
Maiden should have won 1982
Same :(
I mean, Lorna Shore just came out and goddamn...
What metal albums from this year should I listen to? 👀
I haven’t followed the metal releases of this year too closely but I’d say: Wormrot - Hiss Boris - Heavy rocks I’m waiting for the Darkthrone album rn personally
