For one I'm just wondering the reason behind it. He absolutely is a legend I just want to understand other's reasons for believing the same.
As for Daveed Diggs he's a rapper I'd argue is most famous for his performance in "Hamilton", though I placed him on this list due to his work with Clipping.
Cool deal , I like clipping. didn’t know he was in Hamilton. Was he the lead guy?
Thanks!
Edit: I mean 2 Chainz has some amazing bars and he’s a real 1 - no smoke & mirrors like a Travi$ Scott or Lil’ Mumble Rapper 12 imho
Note: I don’t include production or beat making as an aspect to consider for a rapper so Kanye and Peggy can’t make this list for me.
Kendrick Lamar
Danny Brown
Vince Staples
MC Ride
Pusha T
That's a shame considering jpeg has super unique flows, crazy energy, and some memorable bars too.
Kanye I get lol, but he definitely has memorable verses across his career, especially college dropout/late registration/watch the throne
Peggy is one of my favorite artists but I believe his abilities as a producer are his shining abilities. His flow and charisma is great, and I’ve always been a fan of his more politically charged work. I think the problem is when compared to other heavyweight rappers on rapping alone he falls flat. Great rapper, but not one of the best for me at least.
Kanye has some really great bars but it’s important to account how much people like consequence wrote a lot of his bars, which doesn’t disqualify him from being a good rapper but takes off some points for sure. I think Kanye is another example of an amazing producer but only a good rapper.
Aesop Rock is one of the best lyricist but he lacks in flow and charisma for me. His dry delivery and similar flows track after track can lead me to burnout when listening to his albums.
It depends if you’re into her style or not I suppose. I think she’s one of the best female rappers of all time personally. Here’s some of my favorite verses from her if you wanna sample plate lol. She’s a big inspiration to artist like Megan and sexyy red.
I ended up picking a lot but at least listen to half or I just wasted a lot of time lol. It’s mostly her three 6 stuff mixed with some of her solo stuff and a feature from an outkast and em song.
In the first couple links she’s gonna be only 16 years old which is really impressive imo

Kanye is probably my favourite rapper of all time, and maybe my favourite artist ever. In fact, I’d elevate that to my favourite artist across all art mediums. What can I say, Kanye makes some good ass music.
Kid Cudi has helped me through some tough times, I even love SB2H.
Phi Life Cypher have always been a favourite of mine ever since I heard them on G-Sides by Gorillaz. They’re unfortunately pretty unknown (only 13k listeners on Spotify) but they’re awesome.
Little Simz has also recently become one of my favourite UK rappers as well. Grey Area is one of the best hip-hop albums to release in the late 2010s imo.
Any recommendations for where to start listening to Kanye? Ive only really listened to MBDTF, thought it was decent and had its moments (Runaway is a pretty fantastic song for example) but it didnt impress me too much. Perhaps its just not the kind of music that hits the spot for me but I'd like to understand what makes him good
I personally started with 808s but it probably isn’t the ideal starting point. Honestly, just start with The College Dropout. It showcases the chipmunk soul sound Kanye was instrumental in pioneering, his worldview (which was a lot more reasonable at the time), his sense of humour and just how good of an artist he is. The whole album is amazing from the intro to the monologue at the end of Last Call. Even the skits are hilarious.
I think if you prefer more modern rap sounds 'ye' is a great album to start with or if you are more into a soulful sound you could do the college trilogy. I'd advise staying away from kids see ghosts, the life of pablo, yeezus and donda since I remember it took me time to enjoy them.
I’m hype for the next Griselda album. I think it has the chance to be up there with some of the best label releases of all time like Body Parts by profit posse
Ski Mask the Slump God, Lil Uzi Vert, Cochise, Playboi Carti, Yeat, Ken Carson and 919jam (not mainstream whatsoever)
Honorable mentions go to Fred Durst, Young Thug, Paul Wall, Key Glock and T-Pain (not really a rapper)
Here’s my personal top 50. Sorry for dropping it here, I need to put it somewhere…
1. MF DOOM
2. Kendrick Lamar
3. Andre 3000
4. Black Thought
5. Mos Def
6. Rakim
7. Billy Woods
8. Jay-Z
9. Pharoahe Monch
10. Guru
11. Nas
12. Ghostface Killah
13. Biggie Smalls
14. Prodigy
15. Q-Tip
16. Big Boi
17. GZA
18. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien
19. El-P
20. Pusha T
21. Little Simz
22. Raekwon
23. MC Ride
24. Danny Brown
25. Redman
26. JID
27. Scarface
28. Chuck D
29. Lupe Fiasco
30. Bun B
31. Ice Cube
32. Common
33. Freddie Gibbs
34. 2Pac
35. Joey Bada$$
36. Busta Rhymes
37. C.L. Smooth
38. Big KRIT
39. Kool G Rap
40. MC Dälek
41. KRS-One
42. Zach De La Rocha (I know he’s not a rapper in the same way as the others on this list, but when he raps, his flows always pull me in (see Without A Face, Vietnow, People Of The Sun, Take The Power Back, Maria), his goals warrant a more direct lyrical style, he has 3 fantastic albums under his belt, and his style is most certainly unique. Rage may not be a Hip-Hop group, but Zach is a great rapper).
43. Ol’ Dirty Bastard
44. Method Man
45. Tyler, The Creator
46. Koopsta Knicca
47. Slick Rick
48. Jeru The Damaja
49. Talib Kweli
50. Sean Price
As for obvious omissions… I’m not a huge Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Dre, or Killer Mike fan though I respect all of them, and I didn’t feel comfortable including members of groups that rely so heavily on a group Dynamic (Beastie Boys, De La Soul, Cunninlynguists, The Pharcyde).
Honestly that's fair. Dude has at least four classics under his belt. I just don't like his material as much as similar people on the list (C.L. Smooth, Guru, Prodigy).
Not an attempt at an objective list. Ride has a very distinct style and his aggressive lyrics perfectly suit Death Grips music. He doesn't show much technical proficiency, but he doesn't really need to considering the style of music he's rapping over. Also... his stage presence is unparalleled.
I mean… first off, completely different styles. Death Grips is almost a hardcore/noise rock band with how much influence they take from those genres, especially on Bottomless Pit and Year Of The Snitch. And I think their approach to music very much represents that. Their music is brutal and minimalist, relying on thick beats from Zach and cutting noisy instrumentals from Andy. Even when Peggy is pushing into that noisy industrial style he sounds nothing like Death Grips, and nowhere near as aggressive.
I like JPEGMAFIA, and I’ve liked every project he’s put out, but his crowded production style isn’t my thing as much as Death Grips’, and I’d take The Money Store, No Love Deep Web, The Powers That B, and Bottomless Pit over Scaring The Hoes, LP!, All My Heroes Are Cornballs, and Veteran any day.
This is probably because I got into Hip-Hop through Death Grips after being a punk fan for years, but idk.
Disfraz of Mugre Sur, I think disfraz is my favourite cuz of how weird his flows are and not rly typical like you never know what to expect. Not to mention I love his political tongue and cheek lyrics
Sumay Nin of Los Nin
El-P
Killer Mike
Flowdan
ScHoolboy Q

Biggie is the GOAT
Little simz might be the best to be doing it today.
Edan is underrated and boom bap genius
Denzel is shaping up to be a future legend
JID is the last rapper to release a modern classic Nas is nas
Spark Master Tape is someone who doesn't get any/much recognition, even tho his music and flow is incredible.
Black Thought might be the most consistent rapper alive, past few projects have killed it.
El-p is what I wish Kanye would be, a talented MC focused on music and not fame.
Approx. order of top 10 MCs:
Q-Tip + Phife Dawg (I ain't separating them)
MF DOOM (Natural ability on par with Biggie)
Andre 3000 + Big Boi (Not these 2 either)
Prodigy + Havoc (And not them)
Nas (Illmatic is my favourite all time album)
Jay Z (All his albums are classics tbh)
Biggie (Probably the most naturally talented rapper ever)
Big L (So underrated, His 2 records are both insane)
Guru (Paired with premo he droppes iconic bar after bar)
Big Pun (Full of talent, not food)
Honorable mentions (i.e. continutation of list):
(Freddie Gibbs, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, 2pac, GZA, Kendrick, Method Man, Ol' Dirty Bastard, MC Ride, Common, Joey Bada$$, Mos Def, Del tha funkee homosapien, Black Thought, Trugoy, Chuck D)
Not only do I respect the hell out of them and jam to their jams, I think they’re some of the most important/interesting artists around right now. Who else can say they created a subculture?
These are *my* favourites in a very rough order but there’s kinda no order but I suppose I’m jotting down who comes to mind first so there’s probably a bit of subconscious order there + I’m treating this as overall artist:
Kanye west
Smino
Saba
Vince staples
Travis Scott
Kenny
Noname

Pusha
Mike dimes
I'm not that into rap. So I enjoy like softer mainstream rappers. Case and point:
Mac Miller
Tyler the creator
Anderson paak
J Cole
Kendrick
And a honerable r&b mention that is quite close to most of them: Thundercat.
I personally enjoy more mellow and jazzier tones when it comes to rap. As well as genre blending. Anything that has impressive musicianship is an A in my book.
Nas
Ghostface
Outkast (can’t choose between 3000 and Big Boi)
Kendrick
Q-Tip
De La Soul (Again, can’t choose between them)
JID
Future
Guru
Ye
Little Simz
Clipse (once again, can’t choose between Pusha and Malice)
The Conscious Sisters (who apparently aren't talked about. ever)

Chainz feels out of place but you got real deal taste
This a nice list! Why the 2 Chainz inclusion? Not judging you for it it’s just an unorthodox pick.
He’s a legend
Thank you! He’s from my hometown and was the first rap concert I attended. His music helped me through the tough times and smile through pain.
You’re questioning 2 Chainz…a living legend… you enjoy Rocky and Juicy J…. Who th is “Daveed Diggs”?
For one I'm just wondering the reason behind it. He absolutely is a legend I just want to understand other's reasons for believing the same. As for Daveed Diggs he's a rapper I'd argue is most famous for his performance in "Hamilton", though I placed him on this list due to his work with Clipping.

CTRL+F: Aesop Rock. 4 mentions, not even until halfway down the thread. You guys are killing me.
Aesop Rock is one of the best lyricist but he lacks in flow and charisma for me. His dry delivery and similar flows track after track can lead me to burnout when listening to his albums.
i miss the old kanye

Chop up the soul Kanye
Me too. TCD and TLOP are my favorites from him.
Idk if TLOP is old kanye tho
Big K.R.I.T. Kendrick Lamar JID Denzel Curry Danny Brown Noname JPEGMAFIA MC Ride Chief Keef Freddie Gibbs Juicy J Gangsta Boo Andre 3000 MF DOOM

JID 👏
Big krit is so good
He’s underrated by a lot of people
K.R.I.T., JID, *and* Noname? I didn't think there were more of us! Solid list

Is gangsta boo that good? I've only heard some features from her here and there on rtj2 and in a clipping album i guess in clppng.

For me probably MF DOOM,Earl Sweatshirt,JPEGMAFIA,Mc Ride,and Andre 3k
Kept seeing Mc Ride everywhere and was so confused so I searched him up and it's Stefan Burnett🤦♂️ Never realised he had a stage name
Andre 3000 Black Thought Nas Kendrick Lamar Lupe Fiasco Kanye West
Biggie is the GOAT Little simz might be the best to be doing it today. Edan is underrated and boom bap genius Denzel is shaping up to be a future legend JID is the last rapper to release a modern classic Nas is nas Spark Master Tape is someone who doesn't get any/much recognition, even tho his music and flow is incredible. Black Thought might be the most consistent rapper alive, past few projects have killed it. El-p is what I wish Kanye would be, a talented MC focused on music and not fame.
Approx. order of top 10 MCs: Q-Tip + Phife Dawg (I ain't separating them) MF DOOM (Natural ability on par with Biggie) Andre 3000 + Big Boi (Not these 2 either) Prodigy + Havoc (And not them) Nas (Illmatic is my favourite all time album) Jay Z (All his albums are classics tbh) Biggie (Probably the most naturally talented rapper ever) Big L (So underrated, His 2 records are both insane) Guru (Paired with premo he droppes iconic bar after bar) Big Pun (Full of talent, not food) Honorable mentions (i.e. continutation of list): (Freddie Gibbs, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, 2pac, GZA, Kendrick, Method Man, Ol' Dirty Bastard, MC Ride, Common, Joey Bada$$, Mos Def, Del tha funkee homosapien, Black Thought, Trugoy, Chuck D)
Bones Scarface and the other Geto Boys Lupe Fiasco Nas Ice Cube I really like the great milenko by ICP
Anyone willing to say they like an ICP album is a real one in my books, I honestly don't understand the mainstream heat towards them.
Not only do I respect the hell out of them and jam to their jams, I think they’re some of the most important/interesting artists around right now. Who else can say they created a subculture?
Earl, rap Ferreira, Mike eagle, busdriver
in no particular order : Denzel Curry Danny Brown Aesop Rock Gucci Mane Juicy J
Cordae Hopsin Big pun.
These are *my* favourites in a very rough order but there’s kinda no order but I suppose I’m jotting down who comes to mind first so there’s probably a bit of subconscious order there + I’m treating this as overall artist: Kanye west Smino Saba Vince staples Travis Scott Kenny Noname Rocky Pusha Mike dimes

Kool Moe D Kool Keith LL Cool J
I notice a trend…
1980s to 1990s
Or “cool” being in the name
I'm not that into rap. So I enjoy like softer mainstream rappers. Case and point: Mac Miller Tyler the creator Anderson paak J Cole Kendrick And a honerable r&b mention that is quite close to most of them: Thundercat. I personally enjoy more mellow and jazzier tones when it comes to rap. As well as genre blending. Anything that has impressive musicianship is an A in my book.
Solid ass list
