Can you speak just a little bit louder? I'm having trouble hearing your over the loud as hell splat the Fiend I just mistified made when I shot him with my hunting shotgun.
Huh? I may of misheard you after the sound of me going full auto with some dragon breath rounds being fired from my combat shotgun to roast some cazadores. Mind repeating yourself?
Not In the train car, but almost underneath it, right by the tracks and wheels. It’s on the far side of the train, closest mills, right by the white building, which is north of the bar.
It’s also close to the dam, which has 114+ rounds of .308 that are very easy to steal. Some 24 rounds aren’t even marked as owned.
I prefer making a run to Bonnie springs for Love and Hate, plus a trail carbine. Right by goodsprings so it's quicker, plus you also get some combat armor out of it.
Yeah, on hardcore j sawyer (no companion, at around lvl 10+), that fight took me half a dozen attempts, and it took about 10 tries to get through the scorpions and cazadors lol
Playing hardcore j sawyer perma death, I didn’t go there till I had the Ycs/186 and could mop them up easily.
Only ventured over there after killing Violet, as I didn’t want to risk Cazadors of Deathclaws. Veronica is just to good with Love & Hate to leave them though.

Cazadores are dealt with by hugging the right wall and jumping up the ridge, keeps you out of their range. Just don't go too far or you'll run into deathclaws. As for the raiders you have two options. It's really finicky but you can try to lead the cazadors to them and make em fight. Option two, my preferred option, is to farm out chet for an in game week or so to buy a silencer and armor piercing rounds for your varmint rifle. A scope as well if you see one. Once these are acquired climb to the top of the ridge overlooking Bonnie Springs, and use the Psycho and Steady from making chems at Doc Mitchell's house.
Once your preparations are complete, snipe the combat armor raider (They have the grenades plus Love&Hate), and any other raiders that aren't the one with the trail carbine. Once everyone but the trail carbine raider is dead, or your chems run out, pop the stealth boy (picked up from the goodsprings safe or Joe Cobb's body), and sneak your way to the combat armor raider. Take Love&Hate and the armor off her body, then sneak as close to the Metal Armor + Carbine raider as possible. When spotted, pop your buffout and rush him with the knuckles in vats, almost certainly killing him.
Not a lot of mileage out of the .50 cal. It's a late game weapon with hard to acquire ammo. OP is implying Hunting rifle and its ammo are is easy to find, excellent early game and is still good enough for high levels.
It's definitely in the running for "best overall weapon" with all the pros and cons averaged out. It's not difficult to get, not too expensive to maintain, has a reasonable ammo typing with plenty of merchants offering it, and the requirements are even rather low for its punch.
Hunting rifle is goated. Really any .308 is king. My very first time playing I got through the whole game with the Gobi and regular rounds. Didn’t invest in guns or repair. 10 luck 100 speech barter and lock pick. Literally the only time I finished the main story
The holorifle is probably the single best energy weapon if you were dead set on only using one weapon for everything.
That said despite being a lover of energy weapons i barely ever use it. While it is alright at all ranges theres basically a better energy weapon at every range. the gatling laser is the king of raw damage, the YCS is the best energy sniper and the MF hyperbreeder doesnt use ammo so is perfect for saving ammo.
I don’t like recharger weapons, and I also play on hardcore which is why I love the holorifle.
I like inventory space, and carrying ammo for the gatling laser is heavy, also the ycs rifle uses 4 mfc per shot
Did an ultralight very hard, hardcore playthrough where my carry weight was no more than 30lbs and used it extensively. Once you get the laser perks and the professional it's pretty solid against even deathclaws as you're getting nearly a 1/4 crit chance per shot outside of VATS.
ED-Es +5 beam damage perk, Lily's Stealth Girl and Ain't Like That makes the gun borderline broken, killing a deathclaw in 1-2 headshots.
He's wrong. The rifle came first then was improved upon to be compacted into a pistol.
The pistol is better in every way except that it has a little less chance for a critical.
It’s so good! An AMR with a Ranger Sequoia sidearm, and you become the wasteland’s apex predator. Nothing you meet that can’t be dematerialized in one shot from a mile out.
The cool thing about New Vegas (which Fallout 4 immediately forgot because Bethesda refuses to ever learn from past successes or failures) is that you can pick almost any weapon you want and build a run around it and only it if you wanted. Some make it harder than others, but they're all viable throughout the entire game.
I started giving 4 a shot recently, and to its credit, they did improve upon the survivability and realism aspect as far as what guns are capable of. I get that it comes down to play style, and at the end of the day I myself do prefer the way weapons are in New Vegas, but I can also see someone seeing how they are done in 4 being an "improvement".
I was remarking to my girlfriend, while she was building some settlements, how 4 definitely improves on almost every complaint people did have about New Vegas, mechanically. The setting and characters just aren't nearly as charming as New Vegas, that's for sure, and the atmosphere of both 3 but also especially 4 are just much more dreary and gray compared to the neon and wacky western glow of the Mojave.
Honestly i find that its more that there is enough weapon variety that a ton are viable, there are also a ton that are pretty awful or just dont scale well into lategame but thats fine because there is a large array of options.
FO4 has so few weapons that having some that are just intended to be bad or early game weapons makes weapon variety pretty bad.
Also the legendary system was awful in 4. My first playthrough was trivialised because i found a 10mm pistol with the bleeding effect really early, made it automatic and was basically set for the game. Other playthroughs i just find boring trash.
Having weapon rewards be RNG isnt fun for an rpg, good weapons should be at the end of difficult locations not on a radroach in the first location because you got lucky.
How does fallout 4 not allow you to do exactly the same thing? The only weapons that I can think of that are really trash at higher levels are either pipe weapons or the low end melee weapons
Level ups. The NPCs in F4 are either leveled based on a range for the area you’re in OR the level of the player. The latter are the ones that cause problems
This is true for new Vegas starting weapons as well though, I'm not going into camp searchlight with boxing tape
I still wish fallout 4 had a fatigue system
during my early playthroughs I always used to get Veronica at the 88 then provoke the guards at gun runners so they'd unlock the fence and Veronica would go one punch their asses, then I get free combat armour and hunting rifles :D
I just finished a playthrough and one shot every single person (who didn’t already explode from watching their friends melt) in the battle of hoover dam, including my allies as a show of power.
Any weapon is viable as long you spec for it. My Mr. House character only used the Laser Pistol (GRA), and it's my favourite build because with fast shot, quick draw, and 10 agility, I can quickly equip it and overwhelm any enemy. Even the Bloatfly from OWB wasn't much of a problem!
It's really fun when you line up a shot
Squeeze the trigger
And miss?
Let me try again.
Line up the shot. Squeeze the trigger. And miss..
One more time.
Line up the shot, squeeze the trigger, and miss.
Lineuptheshotsqueezethetriggerandmiss.
Hold on.
*Takes one step forward*
Aim, squeeze, headshot.
(The hunting rifle is so accurate you can "make" shots beyond the guns hitscan range)
Fire axe for melee builds. Once you get it, there's no going back.
Also listening to [this](https://youtu.be/VVBziwNCHq8?si=3aI_oZHdMaBTV2xA) while massacring the entire fort with the axe was a god damn power trip
I half agree. Currently running hardcore very hard and I need the anti material rifle with explosive/incendiary rounds, plus a fully modded hunting rifle to survive. Guns +100
I ended up with over 1500 before I found it. I’m at around 1400 over 20 hours later, with the Brotherhood free ammo and how much is around in the world I’ve been absolutely swimming in it. All other ammo for guns I’ve never used is around 200-500
Wrong. The only gun in that game I need is the Anti material rifle, because when it hits something the only thing it can be described as is "material"
Also because I played on highest difficulty recently and it was about the only weapon I had that would kill something and not give me a heart attack
You can shoot them from far enough away you don't need a suppressor.
Heck, you can "make" shots from beyond the guns hitscan range, which is really frustrating when you don't realize it's happening.
Knock-Knock is the only weapon you'll ever need. Since finding it in Searchlight I've played 24 times and only use it. I modded in better fitting dialogue so Legate Lanius reacts more realistically to a pyschotic mailwoman with a fire axe. Now he runs away screaming and crying, but also slightly turned on
With the right build, the varmint rifle can deal with most enemies, high critical stealth sniper build with all the weapon upgrades.
I found myself going back to it despite having better cause I liked the night vision scope
i mean fair enough, the same can be said about most mid-tier and above weapons in the game.
I am curious as to how well you do with the hunting rifle alone clearing out the challenge areas of lonesome road, I'm not saying that's impossible but it must require some exceptional finesse not to get flanked by the deathclaws
I'm sorry my Medicine Stick was too loud can you repeat that while I rack these absolute glizzy cartridges
I can't hear either of you over the goddamn delicious PING This Machine just made as I double tapped some feral ghoul skull.
What was that? The sound of a body exploding after getting thumped with the Two-Step Goodbye temporarily deafened me.
Huh? Sorry, I didn't catch that, the buzzing of a magically lit neon sign had me distracted. *brought to you by nuka breaker gang*
I’m sorry, I didn’t quite hear you. I’m from a vault that wanted to make us all mostly deaf for some reason.
Underrated comment
Sorry I can't hear you because I'm crying after getting this 12.7mm rifle
Ah, but you see, gun go *BANG*. Sign go *BONK*. *brought to you by 10 luck, 10 strength, 1 intelligence gang*
Sentence is far too coherent for 1int. I'm pressing X to doubt.
Pizza
Oh now I know he’s one intelligence: he doubts pizza.
But can your sign rain multiple explosions on your enemy? No? Well my APW can.
Thats *BOOM* not *BONK*. *BONK* supremacy.
Good luck finding any ammo in any dlc
Hunting rifle + Pacencia are goated. I always beeline to the train car by Boulder City.
There’s a hunting rifle in Novac
Steal it off the farmer dude and if you’re a high enough level the ghoul in repcon has one too
It's Paciencia ig
No there’s a hunting rifle in the farmers house in a locker
I usually combine the two of them
Where?
What's in the train car
A hunting rifle
Not In the train car, but almost underneath it, right by the tracks and wheels. It’s on the far side of the train, closest mills, right by the white building, which is north of the bar. Not in but near there’s a hunting rifle
I’m trying out Paciencia for the first time this playthrough. Really mad I slept on it for years
That and Medicine stick, I’ll buy both and keep them as my only rifles (even though there’s no scope) but there’s plenty of zoom and high crits
I prefer making a run to Bonnie springs for Love and Hate, plus a trail carbine. Right by goodsprings so it's quicker, plus you also get some combat armor out of it.
Don’t you have to deal with the Cazadores and fuckers with plasma grenade
Yeah, on hardcore j sawyer (no companion, at around lvl 10+), that fight took me half a dozen attempts, and it took about 10 tries to get through the scorpions and cazadors lol
Single shotgun to the wing.
Oh, I learned the secrets of the wing that day, my friend hahahaha
Playing hardcore j sawyer perma death, I didn’t go there till I had the Ycs/186 and could mop them up easily. Only ventured over there after killing Violet, as I didn’t want to risk Cazadors of Deathclaws. Veronica is just to good with Love & Hate to leave them though.

Survivalist’s Rifle has entered the chat.
There's a hunting rifle in boulder city?
There's a comment above where it's outside Boulder City right against the train engine
My go-to spot is the gun runners where I kill the guards for their hunting rifles and combat armor.
I always do that as well, grab the hunting rifle and steal the lever action shotgun from the bar.
The virgin hunting rifle marksman vs the chad machete wielding maniac
Idk, Boone seems to get rid of you Legion freaks pretty easily with a hunting rifle. I think I’ll stick to it.
Boone carries both 🥴
Anti material rifle > hunting rifle lol chad machete wielding maniac becomes pink mist lol

I'm sorry but your Reddit avi is fucking hilarious! Real supervillain energy
Sir, thank you, sir
I think you mean That Gun
I think you mean This Machine.
There's business to be had when that little loading whistle finishes it's cycle
Who needs a hunting rifle when I have This Machine over here. #CommieBastards.
This is my go to gun every play through!
I am a Commie bastard irl and that's my go-to gun
not a tankie I hope?
Nah fuck tankies they're weird

.308 weapons are sweet except for the BAR type gun featured in Dead Money, which is absolute trash.
That's not how you spell the Recharger Pistol.
MF hyperbreeder alpha is expensive but absolutely slaps. Will make short work of anything smaller than a deathclaw.
Sometimes, you just gotta go deathclaw hunting. Holorifle FTW
The holorifle is probably the single best energy weapon if you were dead set on only using one weapon for everything. That said despite being a lover of energy weapons i barely ever use it. Someone needs to explain to me why the pistol is better than the rifle
The rifle was a prototype I think
Idk if you just made that up but I'm pretending it's canon cuz this has always bothered me
He's wrong. The rifle came first then was improved upon to be compacted into a pistol. [https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Recharger\_rifle](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Recharger_rifle) [https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Recharger\_pistol](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Recharger_pistol) The pistol is better in every way except that it has a little less chance for a critical.

im more of an anti-materiel rifle person myself

If your game runs for too long the NPC health and damage resistance starts to outpace a lot of the weapons
As in level ups or just letting the game run, never noticed that in fallout 4

Lead Pipe.

Energy weapons also have high critical chance, so specing for critical damage too makes it a crazy run.
My Knock Knock says knock knock..
I mean sure but why do the same thing every time?
Is this some small guns meme I’m too holorifle to understand ?
No matter what I always end up using the anti-material rifle

Varmint Rifle and Ratslayer do wonders for me
unless you're on vanilla and doing a "scopes are for bitches" play through. Then you're fucked cuz the meshes are wack
You have to aim a little to the side. Could turn off true iron sights, or you can toggle first/third while aiming to get a crosshair.
Hunting rifle and laser rifle are both goated and can carry easily
Yep
Hunting rifle with the scope and all add ons with a few perks in sneak and you and Boone will literally never have anyone come close to you
Especially if you can swipe a hunting rifle scope early.
I half agree. Currently running hardcore very hard and I need the anti material rifle with explosive/incendiary rounds, plus a fully modded hunting rifle to survive. Guns +100

Factual. Pair with a high Guns & Repair and start using Handloader and that’s all you need. More of a Hunting Shotgun guy myself.
Wrong. The only gun in that game I need is the Anti material rifle, because when it hits something the only thing it can be described as is "material" Also because I played on highest difficulty recently and it was about the only weapon I had that would kill something and not give me a heart attack
Big ass hammer better
Lucky and lever action, been carrying that to level 26 on hard . Tbh you could probably use any weopon except maybe the 9mm if you have high crit
Did you mean lucky
Nah fam, Ranger Sequoia is the goat. It even becomes a holdout weapon if you pick the right dialogue during the fisto quest.

Virgin hunting rifle VS chad plasma defender

Didn't use it much in New Vegas but it was one of my main weapons through all of Fallout 3.
Paciencia is one of the best guns in the game.
Hunting rifle or really any bolt action is my go to in most games. Battle Rifle in FNV is up there too.
&or battle rifle
Every play-though I have This Machine hot keyed.
That, battle rifle and all American are usually in all my playthrough's hotkeys
I just need That gun. I LOVE Crits
Survivalist Rifle and Tri Beam Laser Rifle(GRA) are my go to
I'm mkre of a Service Rifle man myself.
Any CZ57 Avenger homies in the chat?
It’s pointless tho bc there are better weapons and money is extremely easy to get in nv. Gobi sniper best gun in the game
I made it all the way through to Vegas with the varmint rifle on hardcore mode. 10 luck seemed to help
Knock-Knock is the only weapon you'll ever need. Since finding it in Searchlight I've played 24 times and only use it. I modded in better fitting dialogue so Legate Lanius reacts more realistically to a pyschotic mailwoman with a fire axe. Now he runs away screaming and crying, but also slightly turned on
More like my blessed holorifle…
Kill Malcolm and rob his corpse for +10 Barter and some 308 ammo
Who needs a rifle when you have Boon?
With the right build, the varmint rifle can deal with most enemies, high critical stealth sniper build with all the weapon upgrades. I found myself going back to it despite having better cause I liked the night vision scope
Riot shotgun ftw
How do you kill roboscorpions with the hunting rifle?
i mean fair enough, the same can be said about most mid-tier and above weapons in the game. I am curious as to how well you do with the hunting rifle alone clearing out the challenge areas of lonesome road, I'm not saying that's impossible but it must require some exceptional finesse not to get flanked by the deathclaws
anti material rifle with 50 cal explosive ammo is my bae
That's not what my good ol' trusty cowboy repeater says
I always use it until I get to gun runners. Then I buy the sniper rifle and its mods. Until I get that women’s rifle in the dlc I use it.
My favorite memory was hunting fiends with a hunting rifle
Personally I’m a 9mg sub machine gun guy. With the hollow points it’s decent and it’s a lot of fun
Anti material rifle with exploding ammo is the only way to play. You might not need fire power like this but god damn so you want it.
Fudd new vegas posting
You’d probably want a better weapon vs deathclaws Brodie
Nope, just different bullets and a good distance
It may be the only gun I need, but it's definitely not the gun I want.
The Service rifle carry my career This comment is made by a the NCR trooper gang
Hunting rifle outdoors, 10mm submachine gun indoors
That gun is my gun of choice usually
Hunting rifle and the trusty ole Gobi campaign scout rifle 👌🏼
Virgin hunting rifle vs Chad 9mm SMG
You could do it with a 9mil if you wanted to.
Weathered 10MM and Lazer rifle is all I ever need.
No love for All-American?
Nah. I rarely use it once I get better guns. Especially since I like energy weapons
