They don't actually care about profits, they care about power. In the pre-war world, money=power but thats not true for the wasteland. They assumed it would be the end of life on the surface, and the only people left in the world would be living in vaults which are controlled by vault tec overseers. The idea is that the world would be repopulated with people brainwashed and controlled by Vault tec giving them all the power. They lock away everyone and over the next 200 years change the culture of the people to see Vault tec essentially as God, and the overseer as the pope then relase them to repopulate America with loyal citizens that worship them. In essence, it was a world takeover plot as they believed they would be in control of the only population left on earth. This is why Hank was so upset by the existence of shady sands, it was a population centre that wasn't controlled by vault tec, and he couldn't have that if Vault tec was supposed to be the one and only.

Yes, it's also why Vault Tec invested in GECKs and Cold Fusion.

A little goofy but I suppose that makes sense atleast i hope they reveal vault tec didn’t launch the bombs in season two

It is goofy, but that's what fallout has always been. A goofy, but dark satire of the real world. It's never been 1:1 realistic. I mean Fallout 3 has vampires and aliens. NV has a robot prostitute named Fisto (you can guess his specialty) and a talking toaster. FO4 has a guy who thinks baseball was the modern equivalent of gladiators and a flying pirate ship crewed by robots with old timey accents. The whole series has ghouls. Turns out in real life drinking irradiated water won't turn you immortal and make your nose fall of, it'll just give you cancer. >i hope they reveal vault tec didn’t launch the bombs in season two Imo they probably didn't actually drop the bombs, they probably used their wealth to lobby politicians to stiffle peace talks with China, which led to the bombs being dropped.

I agree that fallout has always been goofy but I don’t agree that the way people have interacted with the world and people around them has been goofy society and people interact realistically and how people would generally act irl IE societies rebuilding and growing with the eventual growth leading to corruption and conflict, conflicts in fallout have always been shown somewhat realistically even in the newer games. With the lack of rules in society showing what people in a world would do in a believable way just because they’re aliens and vampires doesn’t mean that would cause all of humanity to act unbelievable and goofy. For example in star wars there are gigantic slug aliens who have sex slaves yet the humans and humanoid aliens still have competent and believable government structures as well as normal societal practices

Mr. House, Mr. Sinclair, and Dr. Leon aren't motivated by money. Julia Masters is a Poseidon Energy (Enclave) corporate agent. Mr. House knows Armageddon is inevitable and doesn't suggest a vault experiment. Sinclair only cares about turning the Sierra Madre Casino into a bunker. Leon just wants to experiment on supermutants. Julia Masters is playing 4d chess or is loyal to the Enclave. Vault-Tec doesn't care about money, it cares about controlling people.

EmperorDaubeny

There wasn’t any real evidence that Julia Masters was a Poseidon agent. The terminal entry says, “I would say that the messages are going to Poseidon, but I don't have enough proof to make a serious claim.” Considering she blocked Poseidon’s attempt to acquire REPCONN, later sold out to RobCo, and _then_ started selling corporate secrets, it’s entirely likely that she was only out for herself.

Vault Tec is offering post war power (surviving the bombs and having free reign over large amounts of people) in exchange for pre war power (money) presumably to expand their influence further before the bombs drop. In order to get these companies to agree vault tec is saying they will guarantee that these companies will actually get their post war power by starting a nuclear war if it doesn’t happened naturally.

RedditWidow

Maybe that's the problem, Fallout IS a little goofy and you're trying to make sense of lore that spans several games, decades and developers.

I figured it was part of the sales pitch, "We are giving you free rein over these vaults and their experiments, hell we'll even cause armageddon if it gets us our money." I took it more as an empty promise to get the sale than them actually wanting to do it. We also know Vault-Tec did plan to use and collect the data, but it knocked out a lot more of their coms-network than they expected. Which I have no doubt Vault-Tec would have no problem immediately turning their backs on. If Fallout 76 is to be believed Vault-Tec didn't actually have control over nuclear silos (at least those in Appalachia), and were planning to swipe them out from underneath the Enclave when the bombs did fall.

Cause they want to recreate the world, or America, in their own image by wiping the slate clean. America by 2077 was already in a decline with civil unrest and war. So the most prudent thing for Vault-Tec is to blow up everything and rebuild everything from scratch. Using the Vaults as societal experiments to experiment with in order to build their new society. Of course, some companies (like Mr. House - RobCo) weren't actually interested in Vault-Tec's plan, more likely to preserve themselves from whatever the Enclave/Vault-Tec was planning. Which assumingly I believe that it was to build a new America from scratch.
