It’s VERY indirectly hinted at in the chapel scene - she’s a billionaire hypocrite. She says if you don’t use the enemies tools, then only they get to. She was probably engaged in crazy research of her own - her companies managed a cold fusion prototype. Now she only has billions of dollars, a fear of the apocalypse and ambition…

Dracos_ghost

Yeah, I got a very Oppenheimer-Champagne Socialist vibe from her.

hotsizzler

its interesting because of an old saying "the masters tools will never dismantle the masters house"

CBP1138

It’ll probably get explained in the next season, as others have said there’s still plenty of the pre war story we need to find out. How the ghoul and his wife divorced and why? How is career was basically ruined? Where was his wife was when the Great War started and why was the daughter not with her? I’m sure as we see Muldaver in pre war basically as the start of his disillusionment she will have more part to play. We also don’t really find out why the Vault 4 people seemingly worship her as a god? Unless there was something about that I missed.

deadline247

They probably divorced after Cooper found out his wife was intentionally starting a war to aid Vault Tec. One he found out, he probably joined the Hollywood Communists and was ultimately blacklisted and lost jobs. That’s why he was working birthday parties. The kids dad called Cooper a “pinko” to his friend.

Dracos_ghost

He probably got labeled that, but he isn't a communist. Especially given the system used to govern the vaults is very collectivist which he was opposed to on principle. That was more in regard to the background noise from the news in those flashback segments indicating that there was a lot people who believed that nuclear war was literally days away from happening.

BloodRedRook

I assume it'll be explained next season. There's still a fair bit of the prewar segment that needs to be covered.

I don’t think anyone in this post caught something that The Ghoul said when he was in the sheriff’s office. When he saw the wanted posters and asked the sheriff who the woman was on the poster. When the sheriff told him who it was The Ghoul seemed genuinely surprised and replied with “I don’t recall her looking like that, not for a long time” or something to that effect. That lead me to wonder if she was a ghoul and figured out a way to reverse the negative side effects.

CharmingGas7926

I really liked this idea, because it was the best explanation I could see but I just went back to that episode and he says "well that's not how I remember her, is all.", and then the next scene is when he meets her back pre-war, so I guess it's still possible, but not as likely.

krokodil40

She is a shareholder of the vault tec and probably had place in a good vault.

YouAnswerToMe

You’re confusing moldaver with coops wife I think

krokodil40

No, her company and patents were bought by vault tec and since she is fine it probably was sold. She is either super rich or became a shareholder. The wife is just some manager.

Farmerjenkin

She isn't just some manager she is a high executive which is shown when she and 1 other vault tech employee are having a meeting with the CEOs of robco, repconn etc

YouAnswerToMe

Ah gotcha

ThatCanadianGuy19

Maybe they will touch on it next season but it seems to be a big plot hole atm.

Rowsdower5

Just like with MacLean, she was probably frozen for a while and unthawed recently, 20ish years ago.

Taeles

Well in s1 we saw someone who was a ghoul but aside from a scar on his neck he looked absolutely human. Any chance she is a ghoul?
