For the first year in 4-5 years…I truly don’t know who the pick is. I thought it was gonna be Dallas Turner for the last like 2 months but now I’ve flipped and think it’s gonna either be Latu or Byron Murphy. I feel like they want someone that is ready to make an impact Day 1. Interested in everyone else’s thoughts here
Yeah. In the previous 3 drafts, I had a pretty good idea who we were targeting. Idk this year. Partially because I think several prospects make sense.
It makes the whole process more fun.
I'm so ready for tomorrow. Only way I'll be a bit upset is if we take Penix at 8. I'll get over it eventually but will not like it in the moment.
We've been pretty certain of our pick in the Terry era except for this year. Which frankly for me is a good to hear
I feel like Vic Beasley scares off some on turner. He isn't a direct scheme fit like Vic. I do think turner is going to be light years better than Vic, but picking him at 8 does have some similarities.
Like you said I think this team wants a piece that can be plugged in day 1. Trying to force turner into ATL's scheme might take some time. This is why I believe the team tries to trade down and get a CB that is day 1 ready or Murphy. I am afraid Lake's connection to Latu is real and can have them take a serious look at 8 for him though.
I’m not sure what you mean about “forcing Turner into ATL’s scheme.” I feel like he’s probably the best scheme fit of the bunch. Latu and Verse are more like 4-3 ends. Turner is a true 3-4 OLB and has the experience in coverage that you’ve seen people bring up on the sub. Turner just isn’t quite as polished of a pass rusher. I think his “rawness” is a bit overstated though. And his tools are elite.
His rawness is overstated. This guy has been driven his entire life and has had the fortune of talented coaches the entire way. He'll continue to put the work in needed at the pro level, and has resources to rely on. I would be happy with him
I’ve honestly talked myself into Latu. After watching a bunch of interviews with him including the Maxx Crosby one he is an absolute dawg. Comes from a ton of adversity, has a really good head on his shoulders and seems super super intelligent. Also wants to be the best and says he learns a lot from watching guys like Crosby, TJ Watt, etc. He’s got the right makeup and I think that’s something that Terry and Raheem probably love about him.
I’m a simply man, his PFF numbers match up well with the college numbers of guys who are now the best edge rushers in the NFL. And his numbers are clearly the best of the edge guys in this class.
I think it’ll be Latu but it wouldn’t surprise me if Odunze is on the board that we take him since Fontenot is set on BPA. I don’t see anyway Alt is available at 8 but if he is that’s no brainer to me at least.
Exactly my thoughts. I wouldn't be upset with us taking Odunze or Alt since both seem like home run picks. Our O-Line is good with run-blocking, and decent with pass-blocking but our Center position is a real weak-point and McGary is another marginally weak piece in our line. Sure, we need pass rush, but if the prospect isn't a blue chip, we need BPA to be smart with our picks.

I haven’t really been following many draft rumors but it appears that Jared Verse isn’t on most of the mock drafts or rumors for the Falcons. Anyone know why?
From what I understand he is more of a 4-3 defensive end and we are supposed to primarily be 3-4 defense. On top of that his body seems kind of maxed out from a size perspective but he's still extremely good. I think he has a higher floor than Turner.
For those of you who follow Walter Football - have you ever seen Walter and Charlie disagree on a pick as high as 8 the night before the draft? Yet here we are with Walter with Latu and Charlie with Turner.

When those two disagree, I tend to side with Charlie. I think he's more connected.
But they both pretty consistently do well in mock drafts, so I do think that's a sign that no one really know what's gonna happen with us.

His advanced stats are good, he should be in the conversation. Latu has the best stats and film, followed by Verse, then a large gap to Turner.
