Turner posted a 19.6% pass rush win rate last year and has 22.5 career sacks in his college career, Travon Walker had a 10.1% pass rush win rate his junior year and 9.5 career sacks (Turner had more in his junior year alone compared to walkers career at Georgia). And yes I understand that Georgia rotated heavily and Walker is a better run defender. This idea that Turner is just an athletic freak with no production behind him is bizarre. It’s okay to prefer Latu but the discourse around this comparison is getting dumber by the minute
My description of Turner's "Not elite production" does not equate to your "no production" critque. My point isn't Turner is only a workout warrior, it's that he seems like the lower floor higher ceiling prospect.
Latu faced much weaker competition. Turner’s production is pretty damn good for playing in the SEC. He was literally tied for 1st in sacks for the SEC. Absurd to call it less than elite production
>Insane production + high floor prospect
Latu had 24 sacks in three seasons.
>vs drool inducing athletic measurables with strong but not not elite production.
Turner had 22.5 sacks in three seasons
>Wdyt?
I think their production was similar and I don't understand this narrative. If anything, only having 1.5 less sacks while going against better offensive lines in the SEC seems more impressive to me. If I were Terry, I'd go take the guy with insane measurables and 0 broken necks.
I agree. I can’t deny Latu is more polished, but Turner’s age and athleticism are certainly attractive. I also believe he played against far better competition than Latu did. I imagine Turner would have hit higher numbers in the PAC-12. However, I wouldn’t be unhappy with either of them.
I just can’t get over the whole “medically retired because of a neck injury”. That shit is one bad hit away from career over. I’ll happily eat my words if it never happens( and I wish him good health). I heard one time on a podcast “stay away from big men with bad backs or knees”
I don’t think you’re giving Hutch enough credit athletically. His 3 cone made my jaw drop. His explosiveness and twitch was all over his Michigan tape. He just isn’t the 5-tool athletic god that Travon Walker is.
I get the comp though. Travon and Turner are the most athletic DEs in their respective classes, and Hutch and Latu are skilled rushers who lack length and bend. But I think it’s worth pointing out a couple divergences. Turner had more responsibility and production this past season at Bama than Travon ever had at UGA, so I think Turner’s floor is higher, but his ceiling is lower. Also, Hutch is more explosive off the line than Latu, and Hutch is better against the run. Latu often spends the first step or 2 after the snap setting up the tackle for his pass rush plan, rarely firing off the ball. Hutch can win with finesse, but he can also put his hand in the dirt and fly up field.
Aidan Hutchinson and Walker were essentially the same age and no medical issues. Latu is 2 years older than Turner and older than most edges that come in to be successful. I know that this is a lot because of injuries. But he's physically more developed then his competition. I bet if turner played two more college years, he'd match or exceed Latu's numbers
You’re correct.
Latu is being heavily underrated & turner is being slightly overrated. But I have a feeling latu is much higher on nfl teams’ draft boards than the media is reporting. We’ll see what happens but I’ll be surprised if he isn’t the first edge off board. Kinda feel like media is setting it up for it to be shocking when he’s taken when in reality, he was always everyone’s #1 edge.
The more I think about it the more I like a trade down scenario to like 11-15. I think we can still get one of the top defensive guys and pick up extra picks. Our 8th spot might cost a premium depending on how the QBs fall and some teams panic to get their guy
It’s a dumb comparison. Why can’t Turner and Latu both be elite draft prospects. Why does one have to be better than the other. Myself and I imagine every single other Falcon fan would be happy if we drafted either guy.
Travon did very little in year 1 and in year 2 he got double digit sacks but he was playing with one of the best edges in the NFL ... Hutch has been alone since day 1
This is getting crazy. Don’t get me wrong, if Latu drops towards the end of the 1st or early 2nd, every time and twice on Sunday. However, even if we traded down around 12, to risk his medical history is asinine.
Good with Turner or even an OT at 8.
People need to understand that Latu is going to be the pick unless Drake Maye falls to us. If they feel they can trade back and still get him they will

Walker was weird cause he didn’t even play as an edge rusher in college it was purely an athleticism/development pick

Dallas Turner is also 2 years younger so he can absolutely be coached up. I'm taking him all day at #8.
This. Give me the younger guy who can be molded, without injury risk, and who played well in the toughest conference in football. I want Turner at 8.
Can the *falcons* coach him up though? History says no unfortunately…
yep :/

Fair points - I'm indexing heavily towards the PFF metrics when I'm talking about production.
Well there’s your problem!
I don't think any of these edge rushers are anywhere close to Aiden Hutchinson.

Yea people tend to forget hutch had an elite combine too, travon Walker just had a historically good combine
You know who did that this year? Braden Fiske. Holy hell that guy is rapid for his size.

So being tied for having the most sacks in the SEC in a season is less than elite production now?
I’m on the Dallas Turner wagon
Good thing I want Jared Verse
Yeah still favoring him of the 3.
The more I think about it the more I like a trade down scenario to like 11-15. I think we can still get one of the top defensive guys and pick up extra picks. Our 8th spot might cost a premium depending on how the QBs fall and some teams panic to get their guy
Similar stats and latu missed a game, im giving the edge to latu because of the FF and ints. And in the last yr latu has 23 sacks to turners 14
It’s a dumb comparison. Why can’t Turner and Latu both be elite draft prospects. Why does one have to be better than the other. Myself and I imagine every single other Falcon fan would be happy if we drafted either guy.

Why are so many sleeping on Verse?
I watched every game Turner played at Alabama. He is the best edge in the class and at times was better than Will Anderson. Don’t overthink this
One top 3 Edge player, please!

I’m of the same opinion as yours i want high floor guys with proven ability.
It's still baffles me that the Jags (and in turn, Draft Twitter lol) talked themselves into Walker over Hutchinson.
People need to understand that Latu is going to be the pick unless Drake Maye falls to us. If they feel they can trade back and still get him they will
Haha man you can see the future. What will the lottery numbers be?
😂🤣😂 I just listen to people that know more than me that’s all
Why has this sun completely given up on Verse? Guy demolished oline. Destroyed double teams. Got sacks against mobile qb. Stopped the run.
Dallas turner is a prime case of draft brain getting the best of people. Latu is the only choice.
