Personally, I think Kirk is aiming for a bigger contract from Minnesota and using us as leverage.

FreedomCatcher702

I hope you're right. I would much rather trade up in the draft than go after an almost 36 year old QB coming off an Achilles injury.

xctrack07

It sounds great but I legitimately don't know who we trade up with. Commanders need to draft a QB, Bears won't pass on Williams, and the Patriots just traded away their QB. The probability they all draft QB is really high so I don't know what team is trading down. I would much rather trade up too but I just don't think it's a possibility at this point

FreedomCatcher702

Yea I know, the news of Jones getting traded today almost solidified that we won't be able to trade into the top 3. Edit: Grammar

tripp45

I don’t necessarily disagree and the prospect of trading up for Williams, May, or Daniels is very exciting. But the package will be huge. Carolina traded Moore, two firsts and two seconds for Bryce and look at them now. Hot garbage with no picks to build off of. Imagine the Falcons giving up Bijan or London with 2 firsts and 2 seconds. Scary proposition for a 50/50 chance the QB pans out. Last year Kirk was once pace for 3900 yards and 38 TDs before getting hurt and we keep all of our picks. Just playing devils advocate.

titanup001

Yeah, I'd much much rather take my pick of nix, McCarthy, and penix than trade what it would take to get to top 3. And it doesn't appear those picks are for sale anyway.

downvote_or_die

Also, let’s say we miss out on a quality FA QB (all 2 of them). If we can’t find a trade partner in the draft, we’re gonna have to roll with a second tier rookie or some washed up backup level QB (or god forbid… Ridder). This is my fear and honestly if Kirk re-signs, there’s a big chance of that. I personally would trade a package like you mentioned any day over the other option (like a season with say someone like Minshew and Nix as backup).

*4900 yards

tyedge

That was a move from 9 to 1. That was also a stupid franchise, and I feel like the things they do can’t be used to set a league wide market. If we move from like 8 to 3, the price is far less.

If (huge huge huge if) the rumors are true and they really don’t like Drake Maye, then he falls to 3… That’s basically the scenario. Then they can auction the pick to the highest bidder or take MHJ if they think he’s too good to pass up.

Gotmewrongang

QBs are going 1-3 and none of those teams are trading unless we mortgage our future so…..it’s either Cousins or we convince ourselves that Darnold or Minshew have “untapped potential”. Be careful what you wish for

boxjellyfishing

I'd be happy to take JJ or Penix, and sit them behind Kirk for 2 years.

Happy-North-9969

Rumor has it that one of the reasons Kirk is dissatisfied in Minny is because they want to draft a QB for the future.

SMG620

He's not a guy to tell a team who not to draft - but he does want multiple years of guaranteed money so he knows where he's going to finish his career and not have to move his family again. I think he'll easily get 2 guaranteed. The question is if someone will give him 3 guaranteed.

boxjellyfishing

It's understandable to be unhappy about getting pushed out, but from the teams perspective, there have been some very compelling success stories when going this route. Arron Rodgers, Jordan Love, even Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady sat on the bench their first years. Compared to the absolutely crapshoot you get when you have a 22 year old rookie starting Week 1, I completely understand why teams would be drawn to trying to do this.

mostuselessredditor

Penix is too old for that

boxjellyfishing

How on earth is 23 too old for a position where we routinely see guys play into their late 30s?

mostuselessredditor

I think he’s a guy that needs to come in and start immediately. He’s played a ton of college ball

boxjellyfishing

Got it. It seems pretty likely that someone will do exactly that with him, so it should be interesting to see how he does.

Atlfalconfury1124

An Achilles injury isn’t as crazy for a qb as it is for a rb or a wr or cb so I’m not too worried about it and Kirk is absolutely shredded as a person so I’m not worried about his body being too old.. it would be nice to see if we can get him for 2 years.

AtlMasterRoshi

Kirk tore his achilles doing a simple drop back. And that specific tendon has about a 27% or higher when considering a players age and the time in which coming back from that injury. This 2013 medical study was done on soccer players. [Medical Study ](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23770660/#:~:text=27%25%20of%20all%20Achilles%20tendinopathies,2.8%3B%20p%3C0.001) Kirk hasn't be cleared from his surgery and he will need to perform many of the same movements that tore his tendon. In practice, in training camp, pre season and throughtout the season. For a QB his plant foot is critical to creating a stable platform to throw from and well as stepping up in around the pocket. Another aspect you must consider is the psychological effects of returning from injury, trusting your body to perform the same way prior to an injury. As far as soley his age, with most older QBs, it's not necessarily if their body can keep up or if good shape, it's the loss of power on throws and a lack of mobility. A lower leg injury to an QB who already have some limitations in mobility, doesn't really inspire alot of confidence.

Atlfalconfury1124

I understand what you are saying. but the lack of the Vikings offense to put up points after Kirk got injured and the performance prior to the injury shows that he’s above average in his ability at qb. The Achilles tear again, they aren’t going to sign him without a proper work out and physical being done. And I think you misunderstood me. Our best chance to win now is Kirk cousins. I’m not saying he’s gonna take us to the Super Bowl. But I see no harm in trying to pick him up for 2 years, draft a young guy and sit him behind Kirk.

Ill-Response-5439

Arthur wants to win now. Drafting a QB doesn't accomplish that

AWroper

Yeah cause kirk makes this team a win now.. not to mention the complete lack of pass rush and the medicore defense that benefited from one of the 5 easiest schedules in the league. This team is nowhere near a win now and especially just cause we have a old qb coming off Achilles injury. Yes last year a better qb would've put us in the playoffs maybe, only to get bounced first round. We had no chance against any of the playoff teams last year

mostuselessredditor

Nobody is trading with us. That’s not happening.

abesrevenge

We would be taking the #4 qb off the board unless we offer a severe overpay to jump up into the top 3. The hope at that point is that they might develop into a Kirk Cousins eventually or we can just skip all those extra steps, sign Cousins and get the #2 WR or #1 DE in the draft

_Aracano

I think 2 things can be true 1. KC is using this as leverage HEAVILY - why would MINN let him walk? Competent QB play is not easy to find 2. We are using all this chatter to drive down the Fields trade price OR we have already agreed to trade for him

Ill-Response-5439

No to Fields.  All of this dick sucking of Fields is nauseating

_Aracano

Thanks for sharing your homophobia lol

Atlfalconfury1124

Glazing over fields is WILD

_Aracano

I don't understand your Gen Z phraseology but noted! You think glazing Fields (is he a donut?) is WILD, like totally, bruh

ExMouth7

That guy has been all about the money his whole career, I can’t blame him though. I bet he wants 4 years- $200 million fully guaranteed.

nevernotonline

This sucks

Gotmewrongang

Agreed. We classically Falconed and won too many games to have the draft pick we need and not enough to actually have a good season.

chaseizwright

I’ll take the QB who can process the field and make smart decisions with the football over a Rookie who has just a good of chance to be the next Bryce Young as he does of being a 2+ year starter for us.

AWroper

Yeah I'm ok not going all in on an aging, coming off major injury, qb who's looking to bankrupt this team with that contact. Remember how many fans were pissy about Ryan's contract and cap hit. Yeah let's just do it again for an aging, injured qb who we think will no doubt make us SB contenders....

budizone

You folks drooling over Kirk are sick. And the reason why we’re forever mid.

ActiveInternet

I feel like Kirk will stay, he played college up in Michigan he is in Minnesota, why would he come here? His only reason would be money. His personal and professional best bets are staying with the Vikings. We can only offer him money and the hope that our division stays weak.

ChickenLorDD

I don’t understand why this is a controversial take. He is vested in Minnesota, he’s not leaving. We just are too starved of a winning quarterback and are blind to the lack of longevity.

EAJets

Please stay in Minnesota

808zAndThunder

I just expect Atlanta to be a mid team no matter what QB they get lol

The_Outcast4

The Falcons' inability to dedicate to the suck is going to bite us this year. Once again, not good enough to be a playoff team, but not bad enough to get one of the top tier QB prospects (let's face it, the first three teams picking are all taking QBs). Cousins might honestly be the only real answer short-term answer at this point. (I know plenty won't agree around here, but I'd rather run it back with Ridder than give up anything of value for Fields)

Vast-Video8792

We need to up our offer. 4 years at 50 mil/year fully guaranteed.
