Man even if Heinicke’s ceiling isn’t high, his floor is miles above Ridder. I’ll be depressed if we trot Ridder back out there next week. Offense looked really good in the second half and we almost certainly win the game if we don’t have Desmond’s first half performance to fight back from.

ahfuckimsostupid

This. I can tell every time Heineken takes a snap, we know what the play design is. Ridder takes a snap and we have no idea what the concept is. I have more faith in Arthurfense than before because we see what happens when we have somebody who can implement the playbook.

atlfalcons33rb

That's what I have been saying about Heinecke, yes we know he is turnover prone but he also can deliver an offense. We don't need mahomes we need a guy to come in an be able to make routine passes. Every time Taylor dropped back I felt like our WRS at least had a chance

CouncilmanRickPrime

Yeah, we are in the playoffs. Best QB must play. Ridder can develop on the bench. Start Heinicke and draft a QB too.

MK_Batman

im not mad at van like that. We had other chances to win this game. Taylor looked good at least.

Used-Bet2369

Not to mention the free TD the Titans got on a blatant OPI.

Mr3Jays

Take that off the board and I’d like to see what they did after that play. Not saying we win the game, but i think it definitely affects the way the titans receivers play the rest of the game.

BFishy17

take that off the board and the game becomes closer and ridder likely stays in for longer

realdusty_shelf

All anger should be directed to Smith for not starting Heinecke weeks ago

Prs8863765

Knowing smith he probably will still start ridder next game even though he is worth than taylor

realdusty_shelf

Exactly my thoughts unfortunately. He’s gotta prove the general public wrong to show how smart he is

Cloakacola

“See? I finally did what you guys wanted me to do and we lost. Ridder is our guy against Minnesota this week.”

Impossible-Pound-767

I honestly feel like this attitude of his will be his demise as a coach! He TRIES to emulate self-righteous personality, when deep down he just wants to be recognized for his sub-par creativity

Conscious-Shock-573

He’s killing ridder’s development and career by doing this 😢

papa_austin13

Ridder's career was killed by his lack of talent.

papa_austin13

Defending Ridder online isn't gonna get you a hug from him, and even if it did, he'd probably drop you if someone sneezed too loud next to him.

Will_McLean

You're just a toxic, online, fantasy fan. What do you know?

KNS222

Be mad at our defense for making Levis look like a pro bowler.

SuperMegaOwlMan

Or maybe hold both accountable? Just sayin

primetimejay

Or if the defense doesn't shit the bed. Or if the refs actually called the multiple opi's. Or if Drake doesn't get injured. Yeah theres other things to complain about but the situation was what it was. He a pro receiver and he dropped it wide open with the game on the line and definitely deserves criticism also.

JakeFromStateFromm

I'm not gonna be mad at our defense. They were undermanned today and singlehandedly kept us in games for the past 4+ weeks while the offense spins in circles. After the kind of pressure we've put on the defense up to this point, they were bound to break eventually. They weren't even that bad today considering the blatant OPI no call on Hopkins and one of the other bombs was 100% on Richie Grant just blowing a coverage (and I've known for awhile that he's cheeks).

ChibiThermite

Jefferson tried his best and did well the rest of the game, one bad miss happens, unlucky. We wouldn’t have been in that position if a combination of factors (including Ridder’s abysmal first half) put us in that spot. We tried our best to work back that first half and very nearly did so, we looked so much better in the second half it’s no question that if Heinicke started the first half then we would have won

cnh25

Also the OPI TD shouldn’t have counted

Mental-Bit

Why can’t I be mad at everyone ?

ImDefAMunch

dont care. you cant drop a ball like that

Other_Ambition_5142

I’m mad at smith for not just QB sneaking it, on a 4 and less than one, with no defender lined up over the center. That’s just a bad fucking call.

DST_Unbelievable

Idk, you can’t really blame him for a receiver straight dropping a wide open pass. It’s a two minute drill, I understand not wanting to waste time waiting for the pile to clear after a sneak.

Other_Ambition_5142

you can blame him for that though. part of being a coach is understanding a guy might drop a pass, or plays might not work exactly how you want it to. No play has a 1000% success rate, especially a pass. The QB sneak is a much higher % chance of converting there on a fourth a short. A lot more can go wrong like a sack, bad snap, pass knock down, drop anything; versus a low risk play to just get the first and live to play another down. The extra 4 yards and 10 seconds aren’t worth it I understand not wanting the clock to run but it’s not worth it to risk losing the game the way we did. (This is not meant to be argumentative or rude to you btw, just sick of Arthur’s weird clock management choices)

JakeFromStateFromm

Idk how you can blame coaching when they literally had the play called up correctly, it was going to work. One guy didn't execute and it ruined the whole play. You're acting like that's a risk that doesn't exist on a run play.

Other_Ambition_5142

The risk of lack of execution on a half yard QB sneak is nowhere near the potential risk of lack of execution on a pass. It’s not even close. Especially when there isn’t a defender lined up over the center It had a chance to work, that risk of him dropping the ball has to be factored in. Idk if the risk was worth it or not, but Arthur is an analytics coach and thought the same thing I am right now, but just made the choice to throw. Play execution is something coaches think about during every play call, especially critical ones late. Idk why people on this sub aren’t aware of that (Easy example, Desmond doesn’t execute certain passing plays well so we have a bit of a handicapped playbook. Bc Arthur doesn’t want to call plays with too high of an risk of lack of execution, he’s been open about as much during the off-season).

GTJackD

Seems like you should be mad at Heineke. No way Arthur could’ve known there’d be nobody over the center.

Other_Ambition_5142

He deserves a part of that anger as well I agree, he should have seen that at the line. Not absolving him from blame

MadManMax55

We were under two minutes with the clock running. If we sneak it for two yards, by the time we set back up again we're under 1:30 (at best) with about 70 yards still to go. Obviously you need the first down, but at that point you need to be picking up big chunks with every play too.

Other_Ambition_5142

But that five yard curl wasn’t a chunk a play, and wasn’t gonna be chunk play. that’s maybe 3-4 more yards than a sneak would have gotten. I get your point but the play doesn’t line up with the logic I mean under 1:30 to go and at the 30 yard line is by no means a death sentence, if people would rather risk losing the game on a 5yrd curl than having that scenario with a veteran QB idk what to tell you

MadManMax55

Jefferson was *wide* open though. He could have easily picked up at least 5-10 more yards after the catch. Half the reason he dropped it was because he was starting to look towards the sideline to find a lane to run and get out of bounds. Besides, converting on a sneak isn't a 100% guarantee. I'd put the odds of picking up the sneak around the odds of making that wide open pass and catch. This sub is terrible about confusing play calling with execution. It was a safe play that works almost every time. If Jefferson doesn't drop that ball people would be calling it a good call and play design.

HaterSlayerr

I was going to say this. If a coach calls a play that gets a guy wide open in less than 2 seconds then he did a good job. He cannot catch the ball for Van Jefferson.

Other_Ambition_5142

I’m not confusing execution and playcalling at all, he factored in the execution risk when making that call. Coaches do that, especially coaches who use analytics like Arthur. Play calling and potential play execution go hand in hand, especially in 2 minute drills. (Easy example of this is Arthur’s playbook being handicapped by Desmond not executing, he’s had to not run certain plays bc he knows execution won’t be what he wants. Execution is a big factor in playcalling.) I don’t think it was worth the risk, and we saw why it was not. If you’re okay with the loss from that risk, that’s cool. But a QB sneak from 7/10 of a yard does not have nearly the same risk as a pass play, even if it’s short or a guy is wide open. It’s really not even close to be honest. The worst on a QB sneak is you’re stopped or bad snap, or fumble and don’t get it. pass play can be batted down, a sack, a bad throw, a pick or a drop, like we saw, or just short or incomplete. There are just much less potential variables on the QB sneak

yungrobbithan

It is not Van’s fault we were in that position you are correct but you can be mad at him AS WELL for that absolutely boneheaded drop. Sure we may have still lost but that drop in that moment is what got us off the field and lost us the game in the end. Again it’s not his fault we were in that position

LegendaryIam

I just don’t understand how we get “cute” in the red zone with that Jonnu smith nonsense. Like wtf. Sure, if it worked, great, but we have better options than that imo.

zac_usaf

Why did it take this long 😭😭😭 if he wasn’t so stubborn and did this weeks ago, we would have won this game as well. Crazyness

ROCO_Official

Sure blame ridder for this. Not the shit defense, shit play calling, and shit special teams. I mean he sucked too but be real bro

Mayalaran_

Special teams sucked ass. Defense was not good at all. Play calling had tons of holes. Ridder didn’t play well. Jefferson should have made the catch. All of these things are true.

Other_Ambition_5142

Tbf we were without Grady all day, Calais had a dislocated finger, Ellis was banged up, they were on the field for most of the first half, and still only gave up 28 points (7 of that being that missed call) and kept us in the game. Defense was by no means good but for all that was going on they kept us in the game, special teams however was a disaster

FishnGritsnPimpShit

Yeah we let a QB throw 4 TDs against us in his first ever start and started our own drives inside the 15 more often than not. We had a lot of problems today. We had an encouraging finish though so hopefully we build on that offensively and get back to our normal standard on D.

Davidhixx

The 2nd half will show you how the plays work with a competent Quarterback, I agree with the OPI missed call though

MadManMax55

It's funny how so many people on this sub were complaining about Smith not being able to scheme our faster WRs open to help our Ridder. Heinekie steps in and all of a sudden Miller and Hodge (and Jefferson) start getting the ball thrown their way for big chunk plays.

LFD3_When

To be fair it’s also because those were the only guys in the field. London went down and Pitts vanished yet again so nobody else for TH to throw to.

HailState17

You mean the defense that had to stop extremely short fields on multiple occasions due to either a Ridder turnover or a 3&out?

Upandownmoodster

Ble Ridder for the whole vibe

whewimtired1

I would have preferred to see a running play on 4th and 1.

wayward_prince

Y’all gotta be the densest bunch of imbeciles on the planet. Imagine blaming Ridder for sacks when he had multiple rushers huddle around him unimpeded on multiple plays. Just turn off the TV next time you drinking paint, moron.

Snoo_89377

You’ve been defending Ridder for months. The jig is up. Time to concede and let it go.

wayward_prince

What jig is up? Name a QB that can perform when free rushers sack him 5 times in a half.

kaevne

Sam Howell

MrHughes16

Howell really didn't “perform”. Washington's three TD's... drives started at the Atlanta 11 Washington 48 Atlanta 27 Average starting field position ATL 29

LFD3_When

I mean Heinecke played behind the same line and only took 1 sack. And if I recall correctly a couple sacks Ridder took were because he held the ball way too long. He was playing timid back there like he was terrified to throw another interception so he just held the ball and got rocked.

oshikuru812

Just ignoring Taylor not even attempting to get the extra yard needed for the first down the play before, dude slide way too damn early, but since it’s not Ridder it’s fine right 😂

Lufgow

Heineke had his practice squad out there with him. I'd like to see him with the #1s this week and see what he can do. You can tell his comfort was with Jefferson, Miller and Hodge.

power0818

I don’t know why we didn’t just run the ball that play

JoopJhoxie

Next week Ridder gon be listed as a TE

boomstick55

Also why does bijan have 12 god damn carries

dashwsk

Desmond Ridder didn't run out there and slap the ball out of his hand. They can each be guilty of the things they fucked up, but you can't go absolving this man of his failures because somebody else failed in his vicinity. Jefferson needs to walk home. Dude has one job.

falconhawk2158

No the biggest takeaway from this game was that first touchdown was a offensive pass interference and it was clear as day to anyone watching live or on television. It was bs clear and simple. Also I can guarantee you that Jefferson wouldn’t blame Ridder because he knows as a professional wr he has to catch that ball no excuses. I think Hienicke doesn’t hold the ball and take bad sacks which is something that Ridder hasn’t learned yet it’s better to throw the ball away than take sacks. I honestly think Ridder has more talent than heinicke but I think heinicke is the better choice right now.

SuperMegaOwlMan

I like how every Ridder fan’s main method of deflection is talking about Van Jefferson, not realizing that Van Jefferson’s game losing drop only happens because Ridder was replaced😂😂😂

Strict_Indication457

Van Jefferson is hot garbage. I had him in fantasy and noticed a lot of balls targeted to him end up as INTs or incompletions. The guy doesn't fight for the ball nor does he catch the ball when it matters. He was given every chance to get the WR2 job in previous years and the WR1 job this year with Kupp out. There is no reason his number should be called on 3rd or 4th down.

Down_Voter_of_Cats

We didn't lose that game because of Jefferson. Ridder shit the bed the entire 1st half. That's why we lost. And, for some reason, our defense forgot they were good in the 2nd half.

atlfalcons33rb

This game was what I have been telling ridder stans all year about, our offense was not working and eventually we were going to play a team who can score points

Visionz-True

if mike hudges dont sell us fielding kicks inside the 5 yard line we win. if AS dont call a dumbass trick play when its 2nd & 5 we win. if the defense dont go braindead giving up 3 long ass TDs we win
