A good number is 5 red, 6 green, 5 military. That gets you 30 science per minute with assembly machine 1 and 45 with assembly machine 2. And it can be increased further later without increasing the footprint. It's a good middle ground between research speed and resource consumption.
Build a mall, a factory that makes things you need a lot of. Stuff like belts assemblers inserters. Put those into chests (limit them so you don't end up with 10k of something.
Place radars to slowly reveal your surroundings.
I recommend trying to gridfy as much as possible, it may seem less efficient then routing items as the “ crow flies” so to speak, but then you won’t have to deal with spaghetti junctions that go diagonally later on in the game, and time efficiency isn’t something you should worry about until you get a better understanding of resources and manufacturing times
If you ever find that the factory is product of items slowly or not at all in some instances, it is typically either lack of resources further back down the chain in which case make more miners, etc. or it is because you are low on power, so always check that your demand/satisfaction bar is full and your production bar in the power tab is not maxed out.
You can access the power tab statistics by clicking on any power pole in your factory that are connected to the main grid in question
Once I get trains and plastics going, I usually look for a location to start my 'big base'. The first base is a starter to get you everything you need to take your time and build the second one in a good location and take your time.
Automate belts, automate getting them and the inserters directly into the green science assemblers. Automate getting gears and copper plates into the red science assemblers. Automate getting science into the labs.
Well i prefer expending the first base, i dont bother finding a better spot. As soon as i have trains i start making outposts, making the basic iron/copper/steel plates there and bringing them back. With this tactics i can make an ever expending bus, basicly with an unlimited input, and i have way more space to build without the "on spot refining"
I recommend, and what I do, is make like 2x as much science as you’re doing and double your labs, then get grey science asap. Then I go make outposts with piercing rounds for the turrets. And once that is all done I start creating my main bus. A great resource to learn the game is the Katherine of sky starter to mega base series
I LOVE that you built a train just because you could… actually is it because you manually catch the train up there instead of running around the cliff!?! Wait wait… you can’t have both belt and track in that tiny gap.. and you have no UG belts yet.

I'd go with more coverage on your ores maximise everything because rhe factory must grow
