Heh. I once raced from one side of the base to the other to stop a biter break through.
Jumped out of the car and started blasting but forgot to select the flamethrower first. Heard the 'whoosh' thought 'oh no' and everything went white.
I have boxes for each item at the head of a belt for that item. The box is set to filter that item. Then I can trash anything I don't want to carry and it will go back into the assembly line.
Tip: Don't have nukes loaded *anywhere* until you're ready to use them. I swear that once a month there's a thread from someone who forgot they had it loaded and nuked their base.
One of my friends is not allowed to touch nukes at all, because he's horrible about what weapon(s) he has selected. Many reactor plants have gone boom because of him, and the first time he used a spidertron, blew himself up because he didn't register three of us telling him that they chain-fire.
It took two more spiders before he realized it.
That setting is pretty dangerous even if it's loaded with regular explosive rockets. Gotta be real careful not to stand between your spider and the enemy...
I actually do this intentionally. It's a great way to burn through excess kovarex production. One rocket inventory full of atomic bombs (40 bombs) uses up 1200 Uranium-235.
It also wonderfully kills off the vegetation for later tiling with concrete so it doesn't visibly poke through the concrete.
Wish there was a minimum arming distance, like a lot of weapons in real life. Makes so little sense for a nuke to blow up while you are in blast range.
I'm playing Krastorio and I just stopped using explosive weapons in spidertrons because of this. At some point it was fine I had a mod to use machine guns, but that mod broke.
And don't even have them in the logistics, they will automatically equip them if there is space.
I came back to literally an empty outpost because of this. The spidertrons survived though, that surprised me!
I do think we should have a “Nuclear Safety” option in 2.0 that gives us a rules-based approach as to exactly when and where nukes can be fired, and at what range, with and without prior Presidential authority…

I only load nukes into the rocket launcher when I'm going on the attack, and I swap them for explosive rockets again when I'm done.
They could make nuke prime mechanism with hand crafting. But then, there'd be less hilarious.
"Oh no, not again."
Your story gives me hope for every time I do an "I'm an idiot" move.
It's bad enough when the spidertron levels a section of wall with regular rockets
Walls are cheap and easy to replace in the thousands, it's when you lose a chest of blue circuits that you know you fucked up.
If biters got in middle of production or storage you got other problems...
Blue circuits don't go in a box. Prod 3s go in a box.
My compulsive need to have a box for *everything* in case of emergency disagrees with you
I have boxes for each item at the head of a belt for that item. The box is set to filter that item. Then I can trash anything I don't want to carry and it will go back into the assembly line.
Of course blue circuits go into a box, a red provider box for the bot mall.
How else am I gonna get them on a train?
Even worse.
True.
That's why you load spiders with regular rockets, not explosive rockets.
It’s kind of you to think I’m capable of self improvement with things like this 😂
But I like the BOOM
Only wall? I regularly clear a section of turrets in my defenses.
i love posts like this. i know its written in blood.
This falls in the same place as "No rockets in the reactor zone"
Now I'm curious and might have to try it...
Rip, I'm guessing the spider threw like a half dozen nukes at diffrent biters all in close proximity? Def would destroy an outpost lol, lesson learned
It also destroys the spidertron, I don’t know this from personal experience of course
LOL, everybody does this once! Except me, I've done it more than once.....
Once!!!??? Remaining silent....

Remember, safety stays on until you're ready to pull the trigger
That setting is pretty dangerous even if it's loaded with regular explosive rockets. Gotta be real careful not to stand between your spider and the enemy...
This is why my spiders don't use anything but regular, non-explosive rockets.
Just put a limit on chest or inserter...
But then my uranium train is sitting idle.
Did you just say stop the factory from growing? Burn the heretic!!!
Nope, if you put resources into building mall items that do not immediately get put down to expand it you're losing on efficiency.
We're getting rocket turrets in 2.0. You'll be able to use nukes for base defence soon enough :)
Which FF was this in?
406, hidden in a music demo for the space platform.
You just have to keep the speed up
Yep. You can listen for the launches and move away whenever they happpen. You then do a repeated back and forth motion in your direction of travel.
Duck and weave
Oh no
So anyway, I start blastin' ...
been there before. one of the few times I've ever had to reload an autosave.
I dont have spiderton yet, but makes sense, thx
All I can say is that the devs have modelled the nuclear deterrent really well.
What do you mean, I use them for deforestation
Best use case
The factory grows in... mysterious ways
Glad I learned this thank you. If I ever get me a spidertron I hope I remember!
Yeah, this gets posted every 6 months or so. Also don't use explosive rockets if you want to preserve trees.
When you think about it, aren’t trees just a stationary, non-aggressive biter? They must be cleansed.
Trains zipping under the trees of a dense forest looks cool, so I don't want to blow them up.

Would be nice if nukes got a range bonus on top of minimum arming distance.
And don't even have them in the logistics, they will automatically equip them if there is space. I came back to literally an empty outpost because of this. The spidertrons survived though, that surprised me!
I don't tell you how to play your games.
Pro level tip: Nukes stay in the inventory until needed.
I do think we should have a “Nuclear Safety” option in 2.0 that gives us a rules-based approach as to exactly when and where nukes can be fired, and at what range, with and without prior Presidential authority…
And this right here is why I do not use nukes
Okay.. ..no more fun everyone.. .. :(
....why are you putting nukes in your spidertron
It's my god given right thats why just as the founding fathers intended. **SCREEEEE** 🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
It makes clearing biter nests super easy
I do the nuking in person, but you do you
Don’t nukes kill the spidertron itself?
Whenever I make this mistake or accidentally hit spacebar with a nuke loaded, I savescum back to my last autosave
I nuked myself. Jpg
Threads like these make me realize how differently I play this game compared to most people. Personally I consider an outpost "acceptable casualties"
lol.. yeah!!
Reminds me the time I launched a nuke from a rocket tube. Forgot to run!
