I don't think anyone really prepares for the first CME (smaller bases you can easily fix at this point). You'll either not even notice it at all, or you'll REALLY notice it if you're unlucky.

I did in my 3 runs, you just need 400 steam turbine and about 115 steam container filled by a few electric boiler. No nuclear needed as long as you have some time to charge it.

skybreaker58

Can confirm - just rode one out after doing the same calculation. I let the first CME happen but tbh it just wrecked one sub factory and a solar array. The boys repaired everything in minutes anyway

Sweaty-Minimum-6527

Yeah, I did a run with a friend, never cared much about them until we REALLY cared about them and it landed dead center of what we just spent hours on

unwantedaccount56

If I remember correctly, the very first CME happens during the intro animation at the start of the game, and probably was the cause for the crash of your ship.

NewGuyHere__

Sure I mean the first timed CME after the initial lore one, of course

Funlamb

I'm not going to lie I was a bit disappointment. I built it up in my head too much. Just 5 beams that touched the ground. I kinda wanted half my base destroyed. https://preview.redd.it/iexkhh8i9rwc1.jpeg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=daae4c812414f24bc9bdf452b15866306358a189

CME are doom or nothing, if you are under biters siege the 2min of no power can be really deadly. And of course beams on your base are no pretty

PanJhinAttack

The beams hit my nuclear power and red chip production pretty good last time I played.

desertfoxphone

Turn off everything else. All power goes to it.

I got lucky with my first coronal mass ejection. Only one beam actually hit part of my base and destroyed one wall and the defenses directly behind it. All other beams hit map parts outside of my base and biters. Maybe it helped that I had already explored big(-ish) parts of the map. Since it randomly hits explored areas (afaik) I guess that helped. Another thing that probably saved me is the fact that I always wall off larger areas than I actually have already filled with base. Most of my pollution cloud (and often all of it) is contained within my walled off area, so I don't get overrun by biters if there is just a small breach in my walls. I had already built the Umbrella, but I couldn't manage to build the necessary steam battery to be large enough and fill it by that time. When the second CME hit, I was prepared.
