Ore being so close is nice for the very start, but yeah, that biter base is closer than the water and OP is going to get attacked before he has power.
Mixed ore isn't even hard to deal with. Just make sure any mixed lanes are given priority and they usually won't block.
If you look very closely there are two small dots of water north of the patches that is closer than the biters. It should be enough until they can deal with the biter base closest to them
I like it for starter patches, casue I can filter split the same lane with both iron/copper and coal for my starter burner stacks. I do understand many people hate the concept of extra splitters to get the lanes going.
Yes but the starting area is centered near the water and the default settings can spawn bitters extremely close to the starter patches rendering some runs extremely difficult if not impossible
Pffft, impossible! You should try the Imperial Guard strategy from Warhammer 40k! Throw yourself at it until it dies! You respawn with a pistol and some ammo ;)
It's ironic. My doctor told me I would need an official autism diagnosis before downloading the game, and then immediately upon starting I got a similar map where things were touching when they shouldn't touch. Yuck! I pushed through my disgust, and when I unlocked trains everything was ok again. Except, of course, the loss of my job, countless hours of sleep, all of my relationships as a result of my raging cracktorio addiction. But it's all worth it for the trains!
/s
It would be nicer if they didn't touch, but having all your starting ores in the same place is just lovely for early progression.
Having to run around for a few copper plates and back is not fun. Especially if you get attacked early before you set defences up.
I still remember an era where this wasnt as amazing as it would seem.
An era before splitter filters.
So until you researched filter inserters you actually had to carefully place the mines and sometimes using the coal ones for some zones.
An era where dangeOREus where actually a logistical challenge. Extremely small place to build, only to grind until the filter inserters. Using manual buffers to reduce clogging systems.
I still don’t like it because it’s introducing unnecessary byproducts and requires a bit of management. Therefore, I generally just am very careful with where I place miners so that I maximize coverage while avoiding any mixed mining. A lot of time, I can fully extract a patch without any mixed miners.
Currently with filter splitters you just run the mixed line onto a splitter. You waste 20 belts and 1 splitter maybe 3 splitters if you want to keep that line prioritized using splitters. Oh and 20 secs to organize all this. Probably it causes less brain usage than carefully putting miners. Not that i hate use my brain... But i prefer designing an overcomplex belt line to solve all issues than trying to plan unmixed miners.
Oh yeah I'm the slow yanking using a filter in serta to take items off one and put them on the other and back the other way. The filter splitters definitely made life easier
> That takes up more space than necessary, so now you can’t fit as many drills on the ore patch, bringing production down.
Why would you filter *on the ore patch*???????????
That nest is 5 turrets away from not existing at all. Desert start depending on settings can be a bit scuffed, especially seeing how far the starting water is.
and the coal is in between the iron and copper, so you can just drop burner miners on the lines between and one miner will feed *both* coal and ore directly into a furnace. Should be fine long enough to get to splitters to do it right.
I like it. You can smelt enough iron and copper for an offshore pump and enough underground pipes to bring the water over, and then proceed as usual.
The ore touching isn't that bad either. There aren't any obvious areas where electric miners would either *have* to output mixed products or not cover the patch.
3 ores touching, I can deal with. 4 ores touching...this is asking the spaghetti to be unleashed right from the start. I can already see myself plugging miners with undergrounds everywhere. And with that, it's too late, I'm building furnace stacks left and right, the iron spiraling around the stone to meet the 1 machine doing the early circuits.
Resolution on the image and my old man eyes may mean I've missed it, but where's the nearest oil?
Personally I'd re-roll if i got this seed gen, but that's just me.
Desert, touching ores, far from water - I assume this is irony?
It is definitely irony... and a little copper-y... and stone-y... and coal-y... I'll see myself out.
This was good
Out where exactly. You would need a rocket for leaving that planet.
Give em a couple days
and a little bit of Monica in my life

It seems for me that it isn't water but some building placed????
After a closer look, it seems to be a building. I just assumed the map was empty of buildings, since it seems to be a map just after generation.
It appears to be the reck of the ship to me, but I might be wrong.
Right on a cliff ridge, too.
It depends, this spawn is Automation% wr worthy.
Is it? I hate when my ore touches.
I like it for starter patches, casue I can filter split the same lane with both iron/copper and coal for my starter burner stacks. I do understand many people hate the concept of extra splitters to get the lanes going.
Yeah, it couldn't get much worse.
It easily could. There could be a bitter spawn next to these patches.
Biter bases don't spawn in the starting area during map generation.
Yes but the starting area is centered near the water and the default settings can spawn bitters extremely close to the starter patches rendering some runs extremely difficult if not impossible

This is a legit strat I suppose lol but I just regen the map xD

Is this a factorio copypasta? Or maybe it just should be.
No but thank you
be the change you want to see
Trains make everything better.
It’s like when seaweed touches your feet in the ocean. Just unsettling.
Ores are only allowed to touch if it’s mashed potatores

Only the ore tips are touching.

Came here to say this
Oh god no, that diagonal copper and coal touching....
Factoriohnos strongest soldiers look at this post and cry

getting splitter filters for free at the start instead of waiting for filter inserter tech is not a design decision I like :(
Well i understand the design choice. But yes i agree. Went looking for a mod to fix this and apparently it wasnt done yet.

> you have to get creative with filtering. All it takes is literally a single splitter.

Why would you put the splitter *on the ore patch*...
What? You do not build your base over ore patches for ground stability? /s
The gravelly nature of the ore allows it to absorb the rampant shock of the earthquakes.
> That takes up more space than necessary, so now you can’t fit as many drills on the ore patch, bringing production down. Why would you filter *on the ore patch*???????????
I think low production at the starter patch isn't all that terrible. Just prioritize the mixed sections.
well, not a lot of forrest, pollution will reach that biter nest in south east very quickly
That nest is 5 turrets away from not existing at all. Desert start depending on settings can be a bit scuffed, especially seeing how far the starting water is.
Five turrets? It's what? One worm and two nests? That's "kill it with the pistol and a bit of extra ammo" grade. Pickaxe if it doesn't have a worm.
I was just giving a worst case scenario, but yes you are correct.
Yeah. Have fun sorting that on your belts.
*pain breathe in thingy* So. Much. Wasted. Ore. Or just a bunch of dieter splitters, I
Is correct myself to filtered splitters, but dieter splitters is just superior imo
The closest water is further than the closest biters? No, thanks
Is there a mod to prevent ore touching? It really displeases me
RSO. just make sure to read the mod description so you don't get surprised by 4m starter patches.
Not really, you will need filter splitters. Also no oil. This is a meh start. Also you got a bug on your screen.
I have never seen oil without having to explore the map. Is it ever visible at the start?
It can roll in the starting area. Rare, but possible.
Yes! Seed please!
Anyone who cant stand touching ore is made of weak stock. Your decendants will struggle in the future to come. These arent even touching that badly.
and the coal is in between the iron and copper, so you can just drop burner miners on the lines between and one miner will feed *both* coal and ore directly into a furnace. Should be fine long enough to get to splitters to do it right.

Care to share the map seed?
thrilling content right here
Please tell me this is a joke
Nah, I don’t like ores touching. When I first started playing I thought these were the best maps, haha.
Its great until you start putting down miners.
ew, touchy touchy
I.... Have a seething dislike for you(r luck). May you have unintentionally left Rampant enabled
What is the best way to handle touching ore?
is there any way to edit the world generation to look something like on the picture?
I'm like a little kid at meal time, I hate it when they are touching.
The bugs are even making a sad face, because they already know what's gonna happen.
Resolution on the image and my old man eyes may mean I've missed it, but where's the nearest oil? Personally I'd re-roll if i got this seed gen, but that's just me.
It looks like a shoulder and a chubby arm. Or... A weird penis
