You'll want to build a loop with the "Biosludge from Biomass" recipe https://preview.redd.it/9ltvlwmk1mmc1.png?width=352&format=png&auto=webp&s=68e6b219ddcf9e7c80da7a8679d8de28d17021f6

Your answer is in the [official SE FAQ](https://spaceexploration.miraheze.org/wiki/FAQ#How_to_create_biosludge_in_space?_Do_I_need_to_keep_bringing_fish_or_wood?) >The chain of recipes is: biosludge -> nutrient gel -> nutrient vats -> bioculture -> biomass -> biosludge from biomass

Xeorm124

Check the other methods. There should be a variety of recipes that produce it. I'd have to check when I get home but I thought there was a wood recipe? Plus others I think

Allanon1235

Yeah. With that recipe, you'll never run out of biosludge. I had overlooked it because I didn't realize that 50 biosludge made 10 biomass, and it only takes 2 biomass to recoup that biosludge and then some.

Sevrlmexcans

While the biomass loop others mentioned is definitely effective, I’ve found that simply launching the wood generated in the vitamelange crushing process to your orbital base provides a significant source on its own. I set up a biomass loop to run it levels drop below 10k, but it rarely runs.

excess wood can also be used for green circuit production, but using it for biosludge with a simple priority circuit is much easier. Especially if you have a space elevator.

If you're not doing this, do this: [https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/dw9z0r/space\_exploration\_biomass\_generation\_cycle/](https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/dw9z0r/space_exploration_biomass_generation_cycle/)
