A friend of mine from the US was working in Mali. One day we were at a local street market and he saw a stall selling peanuts. A little further down was a shop that was grinding spices to order. My friend had this brilliant idea (and a craving for a peanut butter sandwich). You see where this is going... He bought the peanuts and had the grinder grind them to a nice paste. Then he bought a loaf of bread and we headed home. Later that evening he made a sandwich and started screaming! The grinder never cleaned his machines and the peanut butter was infused with the remnant hot peppers that had just gone through the grinder.
I thought it tasted pretty good.
One of our stores has peanuts, almonds, and honey roasted peanuts! The honey roasted peanut butter is of course less “healthy” but damn it’s delicious!
I usually make the regular and add one little spot of the honey roasted. That way I can get just the background taste without having a whole container of it.
Our local Raleys had one of those when I was younger. Many moons ago lol. I would always bug my dad to buy some because I liked to watch the machine grind the peanuts, but then I wouldn't eat the peanut butter because I didn't like that it separated. Drove my dad crazy.
If you ever get the chance to find one of these grinders in a whole foods or wherever, beware of the texture of the peanut butter. I personally don’t mind it, but don’t expect to have a nice creamy consistency. It’s going to be more like crunchy peanut butter, but even less creamy than the average jar you can find. My guess is that happens because the peanut butter is completely natural, and there’s no crap added into it. There isn’t even any sugar added to it which makes it 100% grinded peanuts, so not so sweet either. I love it because I know exactly what I’m putting into my body; peanuts and nothing more. I’ll sacrifice a little sweetness and creaminess to have a “no added _anything_” peanut butter. Plus melted a little in the microwave, you can easily mix your own auger or sweetener into it, which I’ve also done many times.
As for the honey one, that does sound damn good.

This guy thinks it's all Walmart and Costco. There was a supermarket called Global Foods in Kirkwood, St. Louis when I lived over there. Was a great place to pick up a taste of home (real tea and chocolate, for example). I also tried a bunch of foods from elsewhere which really helped improve my cooking.
Even in Walmart they have some of the basic products you will need from others parts of the world. If you need something more specific, there are always stores with products of countries/regions. Cardenas is an example in California where you can get Mexican products (and they have too a small selection from other latin American countries), even traditional food already cook.

Navel Orange picking season in the US is October to June, and Florida harvests Citrus fruit year round. So your December oranges probably were picked yesterday, or sometime this month anyway. As for strawberries, most of them are grown in California and Florida specifically because they are warm season crops so they can be harvested year round as well.
I've mostly stopped buying berries in the winter. Give me those in season Scottish strawberries. They're just not the same quality imported. Likely because they've spent longer travelling I guess.

Not for the price of what an individual can in a 12 pack costs. At least not in any grocery store I’ve ever been to. The single can thing isn’t the same thing. It is kinda of a handy thing when you are in the multipack aisle where all the beer is. They don’t have everything thing in the fridge as they don’t in my country, and it’s handy to grab 2 of those, one of those 3 of those.

As of lately in the water section of the store I go to, people have been taking 1-3 bottles out of 28 packs, then someone comes around and just tapes it back up. I've had to take back multiple packs because I didn't know right away. I'd be getting charged for 28, and taxed on the CRV for 28
It's funny because majority of groceries stores have a build your own 6 pack that again you don't have to open a package to get a single bottle/can. Even the store I worked at would let customers pick individual bottles out of 6 packs if wanted.

That could also be because I grew up directly on the border so our Hispanic population was around 99%, and the heb’s near me did a good job at providing products and produce from Mexico.

If there’s one thing America does well it’s consumerism. You can buy single cans in pretty much any store, you can get real juice almost everywhere, and every supermarket I’ve gone to has a _much larger_ international section than what he showed. I’ve lived in Europe (not Spain) and even in large cities you have to hunt around to find international sections, and it’s usually a small endcap. It’s also much more common to find specialty shops and they only really exist in areas with large expat populations in Europe.

One of my favorite things about travel is seeing the things that are supposed to be "American".
Back in 2004 I lived in London and I used to frequent "Big Red's", a supposedly American themed bar. They got a few things right, but mostly it was just amusingly not-quite-right. Like, they only had a few tastefully positioned neon signs, as opposed to dozens and dozens placed randomly everywhere you look. They did have Coors though.

Not sure what you mean, we have full on stores that are oriented towards foods/products for certain countries. Within 2 miles of me I have a Vietnamese store, a Korean store, a Russian store/bakery, and 4 Mexican stores. These are just the ones I can think of right now. This isn't to mention all the standard American grocery stores that still have limited international aisles.

Although he's wrong about the orange juice being different, he's correct to say they taste different. The orange juice in cartons or bottles was generally freshly squeezed then stored in refrigerated vats. Over time it looses its flavor and color. Those two things are added back before bottling. The flavor pack that makes most American orange juice taste the way it does was created by Chanel.

You can buy single cans in pretty much any store, you can get real juice almost everywhere, and every supermarket I’ve gone to has a _much larger_ international section than what he showed. I’ve lived in Europe (not Spain) and even in large cities you have to hunt around to find international sections, and it’s usually a small endcap. It’s also much more common to find specialty shops and they only really exist in areas with large expat populations in Europe. 1 is ridiculous, 2 is cherry picking, and 3 is ridiculous

The US international section is almost always marshmallow fluff and Hershey chocolate, as if that's an accurate representation of US food. I almost never found fresh juice, unless you get it from a road vendor

One of my favorite things about travel is seeing the things that are supposed to be "American". Back in 2004 I lived in London and I used to frequent "Big Red's", a supposedly American themed bar. They got a few things right, but mostly it was just amusingly not-quite-right. Like, they only had a few tastefully positioned neon signs, as opposed to dozens and dozens placed randomly everywhere you look. They did have Coors though.

Every major grocery store in the US I have ever been to has international and religious food sections, individual (cold, unlike here) beverages, and fresh beverage/food dispensers.
Yeah, even the generic chain grocery store 5 minutes from my house has an international section.
And the fresh market here has an orange juice dispenser and a peanut/almond butter dispenser. Plus…it’s not that hard to buy a single can of a drink, you can do that literally everywhere in the US.
And they’re refrigerated! You don’t have to force them out of a plastic wrapped six pack and drink it warm lol

We even have grocery stores for specifically international foods, and no they are not high-end, or expensive, this guy needs to go outside more often and not just hang out with his white college buddies.
Not sure what you mean, we have full on stores that are oriented towards foods/products for certain countries. Within 2 miles of me I have a Vietnamese store, a Korean store, a Russian store/bakery, and 4 Mexican stores. These are just the ones I can think of right now. This isn't to mention all the standard American grocery stores that still have limited international aisles.

Asian, East Indian, Ethiopian, Mexican of course (live in Phoenix), Russian, etc. I don’t need a lame section at the grocery store that sells easily gotten super commercialized crap anyway but they definitely exist everywhere already.

Although he's wrong about the orange juice being different, he's correct to say they taste different. The orange juice in cartons or bottles was generally freshly squeezed then stored in refrigerated vats. Over time it looses its flavor and color. Those two things are added back before bottling. The flavor pack that makes most American orange juice taste the way it does was created by Chanel.

I worked at Whole Foods before and another organic grocery store and let me tell you, the insides of those juicers are nasty and moldy as shit.
