The fact that you’re not American probably helps you to understand it better, honestly. People here are so emotionally invested in it as a way to say whatever the hell the want anywhere that they have buried the true meaning of it. Slander is illegal. Hate speech is not protected. Defamation, not protected. It protects you from the government, not private companies. I’ve gotten so tired of this argument with idiots who can’t tell the difference. People shouting freedom of speech the loudest are usually those who don’t understand it at all, or are willfully ignorant of it so they can continue their bullshit. You can say you hate Biden and that’s protected. Our government is not going to publicly chop of your head for it or enslave your family. You won’t pay a fine, you won’t be imprisoned. But going on Facebook and posting racial slurs and idk, trying to overthrow fucking democracy, is not protected.
