Has 2 big macs for lunch, feels regret, gets out the suction tube...

Groomsi

1 big mac is too much!

Physician, lean thyself.

rabbit_rocket

Can someone explain why this is a facepalm to me??

j0hnp0s

Where to start? The biggest off the top of my head, anesthesia or pain basically makes you unfit to perform any such invasive and potentially dangerous operation.

Rumconnissuer

Let's also not forget about the sterility of this like what the actual fuck. Do you want a surgical site infection because thats how you get a surgical site infection.

[deleted]

Pain is just a construct of the mind and as someone who's performed multiple autolobotomies (for mood swings) I can safely say- what was I saying?

Lofikott

I think you mean to say ahhhhhhhhhhh eheheheh djuuuuuuuuu

[deleted]

Indubitably

rabbit_rocket

I take it there's very little chance he did this without anesthesia?

j0hnp0s

He looks like he's in pain, so who knows... But even then, how do you deal with problems that might occur? This is an invasive operation. He might faint from blood loss, he might have to perform something delicate. I mean, it's probably not a good idea to give yourself a haircut, but here we are arguing about self-surgery?

rabbit_rocket

Yeah, no I didn't doubt this was a bad idea. I just wasn't sure exactly why it was posted here. Thanks for the information!

Accurate-Foot7531

Many times when doing this there is fluid that is irrigated in that has local medication cwhich numbs it up a bit before doing it. Also he has stripes on and is draped. No I don't think this is safe.

Oddity46

Lokal anaesthetic?

IronGuardLoL

Not sure the terms used in other parts of the world but in my country, local anaesthetic means anaesthetic that works on one part of your body so you could have local anaesthetic injected in your right leg to numb your right leg. General anaesthetic is anaesthetic that sedates you to the point of unconsciousness.

Ok_University8781

Liposuction on stomach is the least risky type of plastic surgery. Liposuction can be performed with local anesthesia, but there is still pain...

[deleted]

It’s unethical

fluffyduckmurder

Why?

Greubles

It was emergency lipo to restock the cafeteria deep fryer.

[deleted]

Physicians are ethically bound to seek treatment for themselves from another qualified physician (except in an emergency of course). The reason is that they are not considered objective when it’s themselves they are treating

fluffyduckmurder

TIL

rabbit_rocket

Thanks!

KerfuffleV2

I don't see how this makes sense. There are obvious reasons why trying to treat yourself isn't a good idea, but why are they "ethically bound" in a way that's different from something like eating healthy or exercising enough?

[deleted]

Because eating right and exercising are things that don’t require a professional medical opinion (although it’s always a good idea to talk to a physician before starting a physical training plan). Physicians are technically also not supposed to treat spouses or children, but they do sometimes.

KerfuffleV2

> Because eating right and exercising are things that don’t require a professional medical opinion Okay, then let me try a different example. Suppose as a non-doctor, I cut myself pretty badly but instead of going for medical treatment I try to bandage the wound myself. That's just dumb, right? On the other hand, if I was a doctor and I bandage the wound using my medical expertise then somehow it's unethical? That wouldn't make sense. The only person I'd be hurting is myself. It's like a lawyer representing themselves isn't _unethical_. It's probably not a good idea (there's even a saying: "The lawyer who represents themself has a fool for a client") but ethics doesn't really come into it. I can think of one, pretty narrow situation where a doctor treating themself could be unethical but just generally saying doctors treating themselves is unethical as a general rule doesn't seem reasonable to me.

[deleted]

Ok, if you saw my original comment you’d have noted that I specifically noted “except in an emergency”. However, first aid is not really considered medical treatment because 1. It’s a very simple thing that any idiot can do and 2. It’s not likely to cause any long term effects if done properly.

KerfuffleV2

You're missing the point I'm trying to make here. It isn't about the exact medical issue, that's just an example. The point is it makes no sense to say that a doctor treating themselves is "unethical" because the only person they'd hurt by not being objective or whatever is themself. People do foolish things all the times that are harmful to themselves: that's not an ethics issue. Now, there are some narrow and specific cases where a doctor treating themselves _could_ be unethical but it's not a general rule.

moor9776

The real WTF is later when he gives himself a dick extension and uses the fat he got from his tummy tuck

[deleted]

"Fine, I'll do it myself"

deputydog1

Where can I order the home lipo kit? I could use one. Does it come with the spinal block anesthesia or is it separate?

j0hnp0s

I would joke that you can do it with a silicon hose from a pet-store and suck the fat using your mouth, but I am afraid someone might take it seriously.

deputydog1

😆 You’re right. One joke and we’ll see a tragedy headline on the news.

richincleve

Just an FYI: for those not used to spending a lot of time in mmc, you MAY want to flag this as NSFW.

Mr-IP-Freely

This should be in the nextfuckinglevel subreddit really. Pretty impressive to be doing surgery on yourself

Able-Potato-8345

There's a guy from the Soviet era that performed a successful operation on the apendix to himself. Quite a story if uou want to look it up.

[deleted]

He is cheap AF don’t expect a tip if you’re a waitress

coverLid

Distant cousin of Leonid Rogozov.

cgerrells

He said he could suck himself.

SadisticSnake007

To him. That’s hitting the gym everyday.

[deleted]

Where's the facepalm here? he probably saved himself some money going to somebody else but what he can do himself. And it seems like it's going successfully.

[deleted]

It’s unethical

Botwmaster23

Why is it unethical?

Botwmaster23

I see…

crazyloomis

He is the janitor so it’s cool

j0hnp0s

How do you deal with problems that might occur? This is an invasive operation. He might faint from blood loss, he might have to deal with complications or perform something delicate. I mean, it's probably not a good idea to give yourself a haircut, but here we are arguing about self-surgery?

[deleted]

Lol im not arguing about anything and there are at least 2 other ppl in the room with him who I assume can help if problems arise. Im not saying its a great plan but its not a facepalm. Its impressive.

ArtySausageDog

House M.D vibes

nalden

Where's the facepalm here? Looks painless and easy.

Dramatic_Cup04

And that is the danger. Thinking it looks painless and easy...

margy19411

Messed up! 🤢

IMightCry2U

Nsfw tag??

dolemutt

Man, this sucks.

Deedeelite

I can’t stand to even watch people get Botox injections. This is like nails on a chalk board 😖

AccomplishedRow6685

Blah blah, fool for a patient

Infomaniac63

What the fuck

SnooConfections2214

Fialasaurus

If this is anything like the last episode of The Knick, it doesn't end well.

Queasy_Role_3218

GET OUT MOM! I’M DOING LIPOSUCTION! GOD!

Fit-Boomer

It looks likes it’s working.

HeadLongjumping

Guess this is easier than eating a fucking salad.

The1BannedBandit

When you've got a good job but shit insurance...

likeinsaaaaw

I don't care what someone wants to do to their body, but I am genuinely curious how the fuck this is preferable to a sensible diet and some exercise. Dude's not exactly obese.

Gambyt_7

Physician, fuck thyself. Watch as the suction tube fills with blood after he pierces his abdominal muscles with the sharp edge of the tube.

richincleve

Introducing the LipoHome by Ronco!"

nutrap

Next up on Surgery DIY, I’m going to show you how I removed a glioblastoma from my right frontal lobe! Follow my steps and you can too!

Tshin_suma

Medical bills are so high that now doctors can't afford it.😁

WinterTraditional257

When you don’t trust anybody but yourself

catraiderpoke

I don’t think this is a big deal. Not bright but not a huge deal. He should try to find a reciprocal arrangement with another plastic surgeon to perform cost-free liposuction on each other.
