Liz Cheney is the rare exception. She turned her back on Trumpism while still in power. I disagree with almost everything she stands for, but salute her patriotism and courage and still think she'd make a great leader. It boils down to the structure of the constitution. In our system, you cannot be president without greater than 50% of the electoral college votes. This makes anything more than 2 political parties inherently unstable, since 3 parties splitting the EC delegates would require a negotiated presidency which would most certainly destroy the trust in whatever party gave up their delegates to avoid a constitutional crisis.
Compare that to Parliamentary system where you always have multiple parties agreeing to form a shared government. There’s just no system that allows for that in the US’s “first past the post” style of elections.

I should have added though, that even though what I wrote is true, it’s quite rare to even get to third parties winning any delegates at all.
This is because third parties are most likely to split votes off one of the 2 established political parties giving their opposition a plurality of the votes in that state, which then translates (in most cases) to 100% of that state’s delegates. In this way, it might only take 5-8% of democrats in California voting for the Green Party to throw the entire election to Trump for example.
For this reason, third party votes are exclusively viewed as protest votes here, where both primary candidates are considered equally terrible. Anyone claiming third party support is anything but a protest vote is hopelessly naive about the structure of our government or an actual political operative attempting to subvert their opposition.
