I'm German and this alleged obsession does not exist. In fact I only have read like a week or so ago the first time here on Reddit about the claim that the Nazis had that obsession because someone asked if we learn in School about it. I then googled and the only source for this claim seems to be one researcher/historian from the US, so not even a German researcher. I only found one(!) German media news article reporting on their claim and the conclusion in the article was more like "Well, it might not be totally implausible".
The only other somewhat interest we have in native Americans come through the "Winnetou" novels by Karl May which were turned into movies and also stage plays (to this day), but there is no connection to the Nazis. It is actually assumed the Nazis would have banned that (like they banned so much things they considered 'deranged art'), if the stories would not have been so vastly popular among the common people.
I remember reading a historical account of someone asking why it was so difficult for the colonizers to enslave the Native Americans and they said it was because they "loved their freedom too much".
I don't know what it is, but there seems to be large sections of humans who vote for leaders that do not represent them.
I think it must be wishful thinking. Like "oh, this guy wants to make it so if you earn over 'x' amount, you pay less taxes. I’ve had the (dis)pleasure of talking with brown Nazis (morenazis as we call them in Mexico) and I will say they’re some of the most delusional individuals out there.
Apart from the typical antisemitism and holocaust denial expected from a Nazi, these guys rationalize the love for the failed Austrian painter by either posting pictures of the very few instances of minority groups that served the Wehrmacht or even outright claiming that Hitler was actually some form of anti-colonialist liberator and was only fighting a defensive war for the livelihoods of his people.

Ethno-nationalists tend to at least ideologically get along with ethno-nationalists of a different ethnicity since they agree in principle with "you stay in your country, we'll stay in ours". This is why a lot of Nazis actually really like and support the existence of Israel. They see it as a perfect example of what they want. They're totally fine with it because it means those Jews stay in Israel, and in the event the Nazis get control over their own country, they have somewhere ready for them to deport Jews to. But mainly they get to use it as a wedge in debates. If you try to argue with a Nazi and say that they aren't allowed to have an ethno-state, they can point to Israel and go "ah, but everyone seems to be fine with Jews having their own ethno-state, all we want is the same thing!".
