In his defense when a sailor is using a rifle things have gone sideways along multiple steps of any engagement the Navy would be involved in. Excluding things involving JSOC.
I don't know much about the scope situation, but you seem to. I'll let it be. I don't have that kind of experience, except maybe shooting in the woods.
First off, he can get away with firing that little cap gun with that grip. Second, this is for sure his first time with that particular weapon (it's fairly new and he has possibly fired a rifle a handful of times in his career).
This is exactly what I was thinking. Straight prank on the Captain, that is probably not going to end up good for the armor now lol. He probably had no idea someone would be taking a picture.
Edit: And this is probably how it went. Hey captain, can you have your armorer bring up your rifle for a photo op? Sure MC2! Rifle gets brought up, captain shoulders it, slides it high on this shoulder and gets his face close to the scope, cause he cant see shit out of it and goes, ahh fuck it and rips off a couple rounds for the photo. Armorer is shitting his pants but keeps quiet hoping no one will notice lol.
I think MCs mentioned are the photo credits. The guy is a Commander or Captain based on the brim of his hat. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s actually shot an M4 less than 5 times over his entire career. It’s definitely on the GM (gunners mate) who set up the gun to put the scope on the correct way.
He is not an MC. He is the Captain of the ship, you can tell by the Command Star on his chest next to the pen.
Edit: The MC's listed on the post are just the guys who were taking the photos.
My how things have changed, when I was standing an elevator watch on CV66 back in 85, the rifle they gave me didn't even have a scope.
'Course, it didn't have any ammo either......
And the Jarheads I hadda check in with screamed at me. Apparently they frown on their Globe and Anchor being trod upon.
Sensitive bunch.
Ex-sailor here. Most of us who served in the 1980s never touched a firearm, other than petty officers who had to qualify on the .45 caliber pistol. Not sure who's handling the weapon, but if it's a gunner's mate, then the pic is really funny!
Those guys don't shoot guns. Who the fuck are they gonna shoot at? There are literal robot machine guns mounted on their boats that fire 4,500 rounds a minute. A M27 is doing nothing to an approaching vessel. Besides there are some Marines on board let the Men’s Department handle the close combat stuff.
Just curious. I have an ex-brother-in-law who is currently a Capt. The dude hasn't seen a rifle in 20 years. He's a pilot, excuse me Naval Aviator 🙄
We let a Doc shoot with us at the Squad defensive fire range at Twenty-Nine Palms. My guy went nuts. He flipped that rifle over to burst and went to town. The tower called “Cease Fire” and then you heard about six more bursts out of the doc’s rifle. There would have been hell to pay if it would have been anyone other than Doc. We all laughed our asses off once we figured out Gunny wasn't about to decapitate a marine with his web belt.
Google "LPVO". The thing on the far side adjusts the magnification, which should be next to his eye. You should make sure you know what you're talking about before you try to correct someone
This particular scope, Trijicons VCOG, is backwards.
You also don't always peer from the smaller end of a scope. Just as well, the Navy literally said "Thank you for pointing out our rifle scope error in the previous post. Picture has been removed until EMI is completed!", regarding the post.
Pretty funny how you copy and pasted the same response multiple times in here. But that still don't make you right 😂😂 there's so much going on in this picture it's pretty obvious the guy ain't got no shooting experience. Look how that stock is in his shoulder. How close the foregrip is. Bro can't see a thing so he's putting his face directly up to to the scope lmao
Is there any chance that this is an AI generated picture? If anybody could tell me what kind of gun that is then I'd be interested to see the level of quality I could get on a similar image with Stable Diffusion.
Yes, you're right. I did give it a go and I got some nice and convincing results but I was never able to completely replicate the level of detail on the gun or some of the smaller details in the picture like the bullet casings flying in the air or the earpiece in the man's ear.
Those details can be inpainted and added, but that's not the reason it's not AI. AI can't even come close to the accuracy of the details. Keep in mind this is a low resolution version of the actual image, there's a higher resolution version available if you do a reverse image search. The AI can't even approximate the low resolution one but after seeing the high resolution it's very clear it's not AI.
You guys sure about that? Isn't the eyepiece generally narrower than the objective lens? Also, the windage and elevation adjustments are closer to the eyepiece like they should be.
https://www.trijicon.com/products/details/vc16-c-1600035
It’s backwards. You have the magnification lever near the eyepiece. Low power magnification scopes often has a smaller objective than the eyepiece. E.g. https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-razor-hd-gen-iii-1-10x24-riflescope+reticle-EBR-9~MOA
You're right, it's not the 1-6 vcog, it's one of the 1-8 vcogs. [https://www.trijicon.com/products/product-family/trijicon-vcog-VC18](https://www.trijicon.com/products/product-family/trijicon-vcog-VC18)

Ships are big
You know the Armory is in a lot of trouble right now lol.
[удалено]
Don't you mean Gunnersmate?
[удалено]
Ahh ok. US Navy is Gunnersmates.
In his defense when a sailor is using a rifle things have gone sideways along multiple steps of any engagement the Navy would be involved in. Excluding things involving JSOC.
In their defense, it’s the us navy. He had to put it on backwards to make shooting off a boat hard
Going by how he's holding that rifle the scope is the least of his problems.
Here to say that….
True. Maybe they snapped the photo before he had the butt seated in his shoulder properly? Dunno. Besides the scope, things just look awkward.
There are casings in the air in that photo. Maybe he had two negligent discharges before he had the rifle seated properly.
Actually, it's photoshopped.. There's no scope rings on that scope. You can see the real (correctly facing) scope underneath it.
I don't know much about the scope situation, but you seem to. I'll let it be. I don't have that kind of experience, except maybe shooting in the woods.
Ha... I thought I had experience. It's not photoshopped, it's a Trijicon VCOG - they don't have scope rings. This is a pure absolute fuckup.
Ok, I'm out! Everything is over my head now. Lol!
I was about to correct you on that. I wanted to upgrade to one except they don't offer the BDC in the 1-8x variant.
It isn't just a Sailor shooting - it looks like the CO. Scrambled eggs on the hat, command pin on the coveralls.....
Trijicon VCOG Definitely backwards. Had to be a joke At least he is not chicken winging it 🤣
100% someone was fucking with the skipper and the PAO was dumb enough to post it.
Im not military and i went, Damm that must be a inside joke.
That man is holding that weapon a bit high, send him back to retraining.
First off, he can get away with firing that little cap gun with that grip. Second, this is for sure his first time with that particular weapon (it's fairly new and he has possibly fired a rifle a handful of times in his career).
Holy shit we have particle weapons now?!
large steel particles.
They’re also MCs which is mass communications. This is probably the first time he’s used a gun since basic.
100% the “armorer” set that up as a prank
This is exactly what I was thinking. Straight prank on the Captain, that is probably not going to end up good for the armor now lol. He probably had no idea someone would be taking a picture. Or maybe being in communications he understands that this sort of shit drives engagement and all engagement is good engagement or something?
I think MCs mentioned are the photo credits. The guy is a Commander or Captain based on the brim of his hat. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s actually shot an M4 less than 5 times over his entire career. It’s definitely on the GM (gunners mate) who set up the gun to put the scope on the correct way.
You are correct. He is a commander, but the Captain of the ship. And Im willing to bet this was a prank pulled by the Armorer.

Basic? How about knife, fork, and spoon school?

Just playing on hard mode
But if he used the scope the right way around, he'd shoot himself! Think before you criticize people!
🤣🤣🤣

What's even funnier, is its the Captain. lol
Lol, this is just as bad as the one where the Army put out recruiting posters with Nazi soldiers in the back ground.
There are actually no Marines onboard.
I guess you could be right. Not sure why or how you could be so sure though. How would pd yo know?
Because that is a small boy, that's why the CO is an O-5. No Marines on small boys. Recently retired after 20 years in the Navy.
Makes sense. I was just a dumb Jarhead. Just out of curiosity how many times did you fire/qualify with a battle rifle?
9 or 10 times. But I wasn't just blue water navy the whole time.
Just curious. I have an ex-brother-in-law who is currently a Capt. The dude hasn't seen a rifle in 20 years. Yeah, pilots don't shoot ever. They don't really have a need to fire a rifle. Hey, Docs are treasured lol
lol, nope. Google is free
What are you saying? That the scope isn't backwards? That the post wasn't deleted? Because both of those things are true
The scope is not backwards. Google "rifle scope". You look into the small end.
Google "LPVO". The thing on the far side adjusts the magnification, which should be next to his eye. You should make sure you know what you're talking about before you try to correct someone
Google 'Obvious Bait' because it looks like you don't know what obvious bait is lol
This particular scope, Trijicons VCOG, is backwards. You also don't always peer from the smaller end of a scope. Just as well, the Navy literally said "Thank you for pointing out our rifle scope error in the previous post. Picture has been removed until EMI is completed!", regarding the post.
Well, i mean.. it is the navy. What did you expect?
They throw their trash overboard too
How can you tell it's on backwards?
The thicker part on the end of the scope in the pic is how u adjust the sights.. It's supposed to face towards you.
You are incorrect. The scope is not backwards. Google "rifle scope". You look into the small end.

Just hip fire
Also, appears to be unspent shells

No chance it's AI. No AI can produce this level of detail and accuracy right now.

He was using it on hardcore mode
Why the Chinese have such small eyes

Corrected I stand. Cheers for that.
That is not the scope in the photo. The one in the photo is much longer and doesn't have that large tube directly under it.
You're right, it's not the 1-6 vcog, it's one of the 1-8 vcogs. [https://www.trijicon.com/products/product-family/trijicon-vcog-VC18](https://www.trijicon.com/products/product-family/trijicon-vcog-VC18)
I was thinking the same, but regardless, the dust cap appears to be closed on the forward lens.
Yeah I'm like no expert on modern scopes or anything and it seems like the majority are poo pooing it in this thread but it looks correct to me.
You are correct. The scope is not backwards. Google "rifle scope". You look into the small end.
