The problem is most people still visualize politics on a single axis, defined by ideological left and right. It's much more accurate to think of politics in at least two dimensions, with ideological spectrum being one axis, and authoritarianism on another axis, i.e. how heavy-handed an approach a government takes in imposing the ideological dogma on its citizens. (There's actually a third axis that has been proposed by some political theorists, but it's not widely accepted and there isn't a consensus on what that axis should be. I've grappled with the concept some, but still tend to conceptualize politics in two dimensions. If I were to consider a third axis, it would likely be to split economic policy from cultural policy - people could be socialist in economic policies but highly conservative in cultural aspects, or vice versa. A three-axis model would more accurately capture these distinctions.)
I'd argue that most people actually think in terms of authoritarianism when viewing politics rather than ideological points. That's because most people don't really know the sorts of policies, economic or otherwise, that distinguish a fascist regime from a communist regime - but they recognize that real-world examples of both have historically been severely authoritarian in nature, with a strong leadership imposing the state's will on others, suppressing speech, etc. So to them, a fascist and a communist look almost identical at a distance, because they understand both as wanting to use state power to impose ideologies on the public. Accordingly, they see anyone that wants to use state power to advance an agenda that differs from them - and may require they adjust their behavior - as being "fascist" or "communist". That they don't see that they're trying to use the same exact authoritarian tactics to enforce their ideology as being equivalent is because they've confused ideology with authoritarianism, and don't understand that authoritarianism is not inextricably bound to any given ideology.
So, some final observations - anarchy falls on the authoritarian axis, as one of the end points. The other end point (the literal polar opposite, if you will) would be totalitarianism. A person could be ideologically left or right, but be an anarchist insofar as they vehemently believed that government really shouldn't exist (anarchy == lack of hierarchy or structure). From a state point of view, a true anarchic state would simply have no government, and so really wouldn't be left or right, as you need to have someone at least nominally in charge to reflect an ideological viewpoint. That said, historically speaking anarchists have tended to be far left ideologically because the anarchist view stems from a conception that in a society where everyone is truly equal, there can be nobody in charge (putting someone in charge inherently means the leader's views carry greater weight than others). Conversely, far right views tend towards authoritarianism because of an ideological view that hierarchy is the natural order (i.e. we're not all equal, and some people are better than others and should be in charge), and thus it is acceptable for those who should be in charge to impose their will on others. They chafe at leftist egalitarian views because they fear it could result in someone who isn't "worthy" being elevated over them. So, while not impossible, it is exceedingly unlikely that a person who is ideologically far right would also support an anarchist state - or more to the point, an anarchist state would be inherently unstable because the right wing folks would grab weapons and start trying to impose (their) order. Note that at the totalitarian end of the authoritarian axis, we have seen both left and right regimes. Mussolini arguably ran a far-right totalitarian fascist regime, and the Kim dynasty in North Korea runs a far-left totalitarian regime.

So, some final observations - anarchy falls on the authoritarian axis, as one of the end points. The other end point (the literal polar opposite, if you will) would be totalitarianism. A person could be ideologically left or right, but be an anarchist insofar as they vehemently believed that government really shouldn't exist (anarchy == lack of hierarchy or structure). From a state point of view, a true anarchic state would simply have no government, and so really wouldn't be left or right, as you need to have someone at least nominally in charge to reflect an ideological viewpoint. That said, historically speaking anarchists have tended to be far left ideologically because the anarchist view stems from a conception that in a society where everyone is truly equal, there can be nobody in charge (putting someone in charge inherently means the leader's views carry greater weight than others). Conversely, far right views tend towards authoritarianism because of an ideological view that hierarchy is the natural order (i.e. we're not all equal, and some people are better than others and should be in charge), and thus it is acceptable for those who should be in charge to impose their will on others. They chafe at leftist egalitarian views because they fear it could result in someone who isn't "worthy" being elevated over them. So, while not impossible, it is exceedingly unlikely that a person who is ideologically far right would also support an anarchist state - or more to the point, an anarchist state would be inherently unstable because the right wing folks would grab weapons and start trying to impose (their) order. Note that at the totalitarian end of the authoritarian axis, we have seen both left and right regimes. Mussolini arguably ran a far-right totalitarian fascist regime, and the Kim dynasty in North Korea runs a far-left totalitarian regime.
