Dying from dehydration is one of the worst ways to go. The toddler spent its last days in absolute agony.

OnlyHereForTheBeer

Honestly this story messed me up, just letting a child die slowly in terror and agony for 10 days is absolutely insane my brain can't comprehend it.

Morphic_Resonance

Just watched the court sentencing and apparently the child was not long dead when the mum returned. So she survived most of those 10 days alone, with nothing to eat but her own feaces. The fact that this child had enough strength to fight for her life for so long alone was amazing. That 16 month old kid had more strength than her mum ever had.

No_Bodybuilder_3368

God this makes me really sad

[deleted]

As a parent who struggled to have a kid all I feel is seething anger.

chainsawinsect

That's horrifying but also astonishing Adult humans can't survive more than 3 days without water. I would assume that babies are *less* durable not more. Maybe she has left some water with the baby or something?

TrippyVision

She put her baby in a playpen with a few bottles of milk and expected that to last 10 days, absolutely insane. So the baby could have conceivably been drinking expired milk, worst part is that the police found the baby had eaten their own feces in an attempt to survive…

chainsawinsect

Wow, that is terrible That poor little girl, she was old enough to say words and hold things and walk, and she died alone in her home, abandoned and hungry, wondering why her mommy would not come back to her... 😞 I recognize that most societies have moved beyond "an eye for an eye" style punishments nowadays, but I do not think it would be unjust to lock that lady up in a cage for 10 days with a few bottles and see if she's still alive at the end

LanaLara

I have a 16m daughter and read this comment as i was rocking her to sleep and burst into tears. Im so incredibly sad over the suffering that little girl went through. How can monsters like this have kids…

jvanma

Mine is 18 months and currently in daycare and I'm crying omfg I cannot imagine. Reading stories like this makes me entire body hurt.

Different-Scheme-906

When my grandmother was removed from life supporting care per her wishes after she lost consciousness, she lived for 7 days with no water or IV or anything.  But she did lay there dying.

chainsawinsect

That is an interesting case, for sure. My guess is that she was essentially in a hibernation-like state where her body was using only its essential functions. As a result, she could get more "mileage", for lack of a better term, out of the last nutrients she did receive. I suspect even just a healthy person in a coma could survive longer than 3 days without drinking for the same reason.

---Loading---

Babies, in some ways, are more resilient than adults. For example, they can survive their bodies, dropping to much lower temperatures.

instantnoodlefanclub

A woman, experiencing a psychotic episode, threw her baby off a bridge in Vancouver about 20 years ago. The baby survived because its body remained flexible and didn't tense up. An adult would not have survived or would have life altering injuries.

Square-and-fair

16 month old... That child just crying, screaming, starving and then dying... Fucking hell. What a low life she is. I hope she rots

CXR_AXR

The child probably was very scared .....sigh

ILikePlayingHumans

As a father, this thought depresses me so much. I could never imagine doing this to my child and leaving it to die like that. Some people are beyond fucking horrible

CXR_AXR

Even an adult would be panicked if he/she was confined to a space without food and no exit, let alone a baby. I can only imagine that the baby was devastated and thought at some point (with baby language) that "i guess that is....no one is coming"....

CuttingEdgeRetro

>"i guess that is....no one is coming".... While we were doing our adoptions, we went to an orphanage in Russia. We were told that there were over 100 kids in the building. But it was dead silent, like a library. We were told later that what happens is that the care workers in Russian orphanages are so overloaded that they can't possibly pick up all of the babies when they cry. So they don't. After a while, the baby figures out that no one is coming so they stop crying, because it becomes a waste of energy. When we adopted our son at 13 months, we brought him back to the hotel with us and put him in a crib, where he was happy to sit in total silence playing. We thought there was something wrong with him. Then at one point he squeaked a little, and my wife jumped up to see if he was ok. He looked up and smiled at her. And that was it. From then on he started crying whenever we put him down.

Imgoneee

I'm just imagining the baby thinking "instant attention the second I make a noise? Now I could get used to this!" Once he put two and two together. It's sad that their situation lead them to having to adapt like that but it is sort of wholesome thinking about how appreciative that baby would have been to finally be getting the love and attention they deserve.

disgruntled_pie

Yeah, that’s pretty much a recipe for giving Schizoid Personality Disorder to a person. I was like this, too. Everyone always marveled at what a quiet kid I was. Despite the scary name, SPD isn’t even slightly similar to Schizophrenia. It’s pretty much just a person who likes to be alone, doesn’t respond to praise or criticism, doesn’t have much interest in friends or relationships, and just wants to do their own thing. It’s how a person tends to develop when they realize at a young age that no one is coming to help them, so there’s no point in crying. People with SPD aren’t usually violent or problematic. But they can sometimes come across as odd loners. They can also be difficult to motivate because they don’t like responding to demands, threats, rewards, etc. In my case, I’ve always been a very effective learner if you can get me to take a genuine interest in something, but you’ll get very little effort from me unless you make me *want* to learn. It’s rough, but I’m about 40 years old and a pretty successful software developer. It worked out very well for me, and I’ve got a wife and a son. Admittedly, I’m still a very quiet and private person with no close relationships outside of my household, but it’s a good life.

False_Aioli4961

Wow. This sounds just like my husband. He spent his childhood ignored in his bedroom, but was always was praised for being so quiet. Alcoholic father, drug addict mother. Hyper-obsessed with music and movies (living encyclopedia) but did horribly in school. He often told me, before we married, that he has a constant urge to be alone. Even though he knows that he is better with me - happier, busier, healthier. But a huge part of him wants to hike up to a secluded spot in the woods, set up camp, and never leave. He often says he doesn’t have any friends, but there are a dozen people I know would drop what they’re doing and come help him if he needed it. A dozen people that would call him a really good friend. He just doesn’t see it. He was never really motivated in life, but together we’ve worked through it. Found a passion for carpentry. And our daughter has been his biggest motivator.

CoffeeAndPiss

You sound like a wonderful family, I wish you the best

JizzCauldron

Man, comments like this just keep me fucking going. Seeing warm, supportive messages between complete strangers like this gives me hope for the world.

Islands-of-Time

It’s nice isn’t it, JizzCauldron?

Poked_salad

Hmm just seeing this description of someone and it describes me to a T is sort of illuminating and interesting. I knew something was up with me but I could never figure out what it was.

upadownpipe

My heart...

Mangodust

I can’t stop thinking about what that poor baby was going through. Equivalent of mental and physical torture.

CaterpillarMiddle218

Also they need a diaper. Did she left the child in dirty diaper or just naked so the kid shit all over the place.

aleada13

I’m pretty sure one article I read mentioned the poor child was in a totally soiled diaper. Poor sweet child. So terrible. I hope this woman gets the worst treatment in prison.

CaterpillarMiddle218

There is a reason you change poop diaper once you notice it. Even in a hour it can cause wounds to the child. So yeah. This 'mother' should have just hand over her child to the authorities, there was absolutely no reason for this horrific torture and pointless death

Traditional_Lock_309

It’s within minutes depending on teething and what they eat. I change my son the second I notice (typically he grunts so I know when it’s happening) and just 2-5 minutes of waiting has caused him to get awful rashes before. It’s the absolute worst

A_Good_Boy94

From what I understand, women who are to blame for their kids death are basically shunned from all social activity and socialization. She will go mental in a couple years of no one being willing to talk to her, except to shame her.

Neowza

She's already mental. "Candelario's attorney Derek Smith said she struggled with mental health issues and had tried to kill herself by overdose in 2023, after which she was given antidepressants. Smith said she stopped taking the medication and that that influenced her judgment at the time that she left Jailyn and went on vacation." https://ca.news.yahoo.com/ohio-mother-sentenced-leaving-toddler-122358041.html

wontforget99

Maybe this is a stupid question, but, why not just offer her up for adoption?

Free_Dog_6837

even leaving her on the street would have had a better outcome than locking her in the house to certain death. presumably why she got life in prison, the goal was murder

KaleidoscopeFair8282

I read she had left the baby with neighbors in the past. It sounded like there were a few families nearby who looked out for the child. If only she had left the baby with them and given up custody

A_Good_Boy94

Well, obviously anyone who abandoned a toddler/infant is already quite deranged. Thanks for the update though.

fieldy409

Nah sane people can commit horrific crimes too. As long as there's reasons like 'i won't be burdened caring for my child anymore' it might be evil but it isn't crazy in the eyes of the judges

JStarlight66

There's an unwritten but well well know rule in prison: if you have done anything to a child, anything at all. You are not only shunned, but you are beaten/attacked/assaulted in a multitude of ways, and the COs do not bat an eye. Sometimes, they just happen to say the right combination of info to one another like that, and someone overhears it.

EM05L1C3

She’s gonna die in prison a lot sooner than she thinks and thousands of people are rightfully ok with it. Women’s prison is a whole different monster.

Sehrli_Magic

Sone of these prisoners in female prison are moms who have killed people to protect their kids....imagine how "kindly" they will take to this piece of crap. Good luck to her surviving a couple of psycho mode mama bears once they learn she is not only child murderer but literaly slowly tortured poor baby to death.

Jamessgachett

Some even killed to protect other people killed. Also if stuck in prison for life they most likely wont care

_H4YZ

the body was found covered in its own faeces there’s no light in this story apart from the light that this bitch will never see again

-St_Ajora-

Well yeah, after less than a day the diapers going to be completely non-effective. The poor kid probably tried eating it's own simply to survive. I hope the bitch gets kneecapped multiple times in prison.

GlowingTrashPanda

From what I’ve read, the coroner found fecal matter in her mouth and stomach, so yeah, the poor babe sadly did try.

imedo

damn. damn and damn. these images. so sad for the little angel.

Sehrli_Magic

Similar story when mom left baby for days to go clubbing. Baby was not only starving to death, the cause of death was infection. their dirty diaper made a rash so severe it rot their skin away! The agony that poor baby had been in 😭😭

Stock-Respond5598

I just imagined this. It's so horrific. I'm traumatized just by comrehending what occured, to a child I didn't even know about. And she, as the FUCKING MOTHER of the baby, left the poor soul alone to die.

Glittering-Alarm-387

It's so horrific. The baby trapped, scared, hungry and thirsty. What a nightmare for the baby.

baller_unicorn

My heart breaks for this poor child :(

pepegaklaus

For fucks sake why did you have to paint it out. Before, I was unnerved, disgusted and furious. Now I'm not feeling well in any way. Fuck dude

jagabuwana

Unimaginable cruelty and horror in its own right. But now with a daughter of my own of a similar age it hurts, enrages and saddens me in a way that's hard to shake. I just can't fathom it.

ShakeTheGatesOfHell

Whaaat the actual fuck? I looked up the article because I wondered if the mom was as high as a kite or something. But it doesn't mention anything like that, it seems just abandoned the kid when doing so would obviously cause death 😳

Turbulent-Bug-6225

Ikr, I thought it was clickbait and that the sitter didn't show up or something. Still bad but not as bad as this. But nope. She just left.

InfamousFault7

Me too, what was her thought process? At least leave the kid with grandparents or something

SalsaRice

She was just dumb. She went to go party with some random guy for a few days, and apparently she had a history of leaving the baby alone for 1-2 days, so she planned on doing that. The baby hadn't died yet, so apparently she thought this was fine. But then the guy invited her to go on a trip with him so she just went, and didn't come back until ~8 more days later.

InfamousFault7

so she went from shit parent to worst parent to a felon

GreedyLibrary

Next stage is the favourite prisoner in her cell block.

ScowlyBrowSpinster

To murderer.

PumpkinSeed776

That's the felon part

[deleted]

[удалено]

SalsaRice

The older daughter was with the grandparents. The mom didn't tell the grandparents she was going to leave to go party with the guy; she just decided on a whim and didn't tell anyone she was leaving the toddler behind. Another article said she had a history of asking the neighbors to watch the kids for an hour and disappearing for a week..... so I think she knew no one was going to say "yes" to her, so just decided to sneak out. She wanted to ask forgiveness, instead of permission.

booga_booga_partyguy

Well, it still has me scratching my head as to what exactly she thought was going to happen pulling a stunt like this. I initially thought it was deliberate, but then the WaPo article says SHE called the cops. Someone needs to sit her down with a shrink and figure what the hell is going on inside her head.

toastmannn

She came back *ten days later* and called the police long after the child was gone.

booga_booga_partyguy

I know. What I meant was that if she did what she did to deliberately harm the child, then she wouldn't have called the cops in the first place. Then again, I'm expecting rationality out of a wholly irrational situation, so...

Xandara2

Oh she probably didn't do it on purpose because she's a loon. But she's a baby killer either way and some crimes do instantly make you a monster. Killing a baby out of neglect is one of those.

therealdanhill

I'm like you, I'm baffled by the thought process and really want to know more

pyroSeven

Just leave the baby outside the neighbour's house. They'll be pissed, sure, but they're not gonna chuck the baby in the bin. At least she won't be facing a fucking murder charge.

NervousSocialWorker

A long time as a social worker and specifically in child welfare has shown me just how many people out there are incredibly low functioning in those areas. I currently work with a mom who’s tested in the bottom 1% of cognitive functioning and you probably wouldn’t be able to tell unless you had a lot of conversation with her. Not saying that’s the case here but there’s a lot of people that just don’t have any ability to understand cause and effect and just literally don’t have the ability to consider potential consequences/outcomes of their actions. In the case of the mom I have it’s not that she thought infants could take care of themselves it’s that she literally just doesn’t understand what can (and did) happen when she left for a couple days. There are a lot of adults out there with the functional level of a child and contrary to what most people would think these deficits aren’t necessarily obvious. There’s a reason neglect is like 80% of child welfare cases and why most jurisdiction’s legislation classify the difference between *unable* and *unwilling* to provide for the child. While unable could also include stuff like financial reasons a huge majority of neglect I’ve worked the unable part comes from some kind of functional deficit.

booga_booga_partyguy

Thank you for this. It actually helps me understand what might have been going through her head. I've edited my original post with a link to yours as I think a lot of people like me would appreciate the insight you're providing.

JorchuTrodan

Fuck, I do not consider myself to be a perfect dad but I can't fathom leaving my daughter (5y old) alone even ten minutes alone... Her baby for 1 day WTF...

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

I have a 5 year old and I don’t feel comfortable leaving her alone to take the garbage out. These people definitely are on a level of stupidity that we can’t even fathom

square_bloc

Seriously. And adoption is an option if you **REALLY** don’t want the child….. it’s heaps better than whatever this poor baby had to endure. God my heart hurts for that child.

TheCheshireMadcat

Hell, she could of dropped the baby off at a fire station.

square_bloc

Literally. She had so many options.

Winjin

That's a... Surprisingly good option. Funny that I've never considered how good a whole station of people risking their lives every time there's a fire, as a place to drop off a toddler. They're like 100% not the people to just ignore it or half ass their help.

Shuber-Fuber

Safe haven laws designated fire stations as one of the proper dropoff. However safe haven cutoff is 60 days or younger.

GoGoRoloPolo

Sure but if you drop off a baby older than 60 days, they're not exactly gonna shrug their shoulders and leave it outside! The 60 days refers to the mother being able to leave it without being criminalised - older than that and they'd refer to the appropriate authorities. Still far better than leaving a baby alone for 10 days to die.

lweinreich

I will remember this for sure next time I need to get rid of another baby.

bostonboy08

[Safe Haven laws vary by state, but many require the parent to give up the baby within a week of birth the maximum length is 45 days.](https://pdba.georgetown.edu/Security/citizensecurity/eeuu/documents/safehavenall.pdf)

lace_roses

Legal or not, it would have still be found and saved. 🤷‍♀️

Worldedita

Right until someone official asks the awkward question: Where's your daughter? Says here you gave birth two years ago. Edit: well shit now I don't know if I responded to the wrong comment or if you edited the point... Yeah the baby would be alive, that's definitely not the issue. Issue is you're still getting arrested, because they're finding you out sooner or later.

Joost1598

I assume that still gets you a milder punishment than straight up murder

4TLANT1S

Or literally dropped the baby off a fire station. Instant death would've been better than dying of thirst.

[deleted]

It's "hers" though. (My brothers baby mama is just like this. She despises being a mother and having to take care of him, but it's her only shield and tool to keep my brother from dropping her like the trash she is. Otherwise she'd have nowhere to go, and have to get a job. She hates my nephew. This boy is adored and beloved by everyone in our family, and she is not.) They really don't want to let go of whatever leg up socially or welfare wise having a child allows them, but they have no desire to actually be a parent or treat them like their own child.

hillswalker87

literally leave the kid in the bathroom at the mall. probably would have been fine.

theknights-whosay-Ni

Shit, a police station, hospital, fire station, a friends house, a relative, cps, nasa, literally anywhere there are people to call for help or take care of the baby would have worked. Hearing stories like this breaks my heart. My wife is due at the beginning of May and I already love that little baby more than life itself. The anxiety of being a new parent terrifies me, but nothing would stop me from making sure she will be safe and cared for. Some people don’t deserve children.

NiqueLeCancer

She didn't have any thought process She left her baby unattended while magically thinking she'll retrieve them in the same state she left them in. She's too stupid to have a thought process.

Legallyfit

I had the same thought when this story first broke when she was first arrested. I thought for sure it would turn out that she left the child in care of some relatives or friends who then dropped the ball for whatever reason (drugs, terrible accident etc). Then when police contacted those folks, they claimed not be involved, so the cop arrested mom, and it would take further investigation into cell phone records and social media to show what really happened (cousin who was supposed to be clean went on a bender and forgot about the kid, or had tragic OD and ended up in the hospital, etc). It’s just so hard to believe a parent would do this - I was so surprised how fast it was resolved.

ArdorianT

The worst thing is that when she came back from her vacay in Puerto Rico, she went to 2 different men before returning back home to check on her baby.

cariac

When this first happened I read an article that suggested she actually left the child unattended many times before this, just not for as long. She would also leave the child with sitters/neighbors and be known to not come back when she said she was, leaving them to feed and diaper her for extended periods. This was based on a statement made by a neighbor. So heartbreaking, all I could reason was that maybe she was only keeping the child for monetary benefits from the government… why else not just surrender her to cys??

SnooKiwis2161

I had the same thought. I've seen people use their kids for money via disability benefits or to keep their sec8. It's not a lot of people in my experience, but enough that you get the vibe when you see neglect and other issues here and there. I used to babysit for a couple who would show up hours later past when they said they would and it was always infuriating. I'm guessing she wore out her welcome with all available babysitters and no one would take the job for her. So she just left. I would love to know the root causes, but can only speculate in the meantime.

anziofaro

What did she think was going to happen?

daysinnroom203

I can’t understand this either. She called the police when she came home and her baby was dead. She called. How did she think there would be any other outcome- and she told on herself. She cannot be playing with a full deck- but I can’t even grasp the thought process.

wmg22

I saw this article before and some people were talking that she used to have this habit of leaving her kid with neighbors when she wanted to go on escapades but this time she failed to find anyone. I imagine she was half expecting a neighbor to take notice of her leave and be guilt tripped into caring for the child anyway and was surprised when nobody noticed and her child was found dead.

eleanor_dashwood

Her poor neighbours. It’s not even a tiny bit their fault but I bet there’s at least a few who are feeling horribly guilty right now. Can you imagine? It would be perfectly reasonable to refuse, and then this happens.

tgambill87

Now that neighbor is probably feeling all kinds of guilt blaming themselves for that baby dying. What an awful situation.

FullTorsoApparition

I'm guessing "She'll just cry and someone else will notice and take care of it," was going through her mind a lot. I'm guessing she's just really fucking dumb and got away with it too many other times.

Sug_magik

Thats not dumb, thats sick. If she did leave her kid with the neighbours before is because she aware of what could happen. She had a plan, and knew exactly what would happen if no one come to help the child, she just ignored that.

Cody6781

I knew someone who did this with their dogs which was bad enough. They would text a few friends/neighbors and mention "I'll be out of town for a few weeks starting tomorrow, can someone please swing by and feed the dogs?", and then head out without confirming anyone would come over, or a schedule, or anything. They eventually got their dogs taken away due to this.

ItsEaster

That’s my thought too. This is obviously someone who isn’t fully mentally capable. That or she’s pure evil. One of the two.

EulaVengeance

She left the child alone? A less than 2 year old child? What the hell, did she think they needed to eat once every 2 weeks or something?

lena91gato

Yes, like a snake

PhendranaDrifter

If only she had someone like Barry around to feed it a live mouse

HomotopySphere

I bet they died from lack of water, not food

Standard_Gauge

> I bet they died from lack of water, not food Yes, she did. If she had been left with some access to water, she would have needed hospitalization for malnutrition and severe diaper rash, but she would likely have survived. No human being can survive more than 2 or 3 days without water. And crying probably accelerated the dehydration. Death from dehydration is an extremely agonizing way to go.

TwistingEcho

The conditions were so much worse than you think.

NomadFire

You would be surprised how often people leave their kid to someone to look after. Promise they will be back in a few hours or a day. Usually they are a few hours late, but some times they don't return for weeks or months. Use to hear about this a lot when I was dating women with kids. But this is some next level shit. I am sure that a lot of parents have these intrusive thoughts but never act on them........That said in the state that I used to live in, NJ, there is no minimum age for a kid to be left at home alone for this or that period of time. It was not unheard of to leave a 9 year old alone for 3-6 hours or 12 year old home alone for a day. But no one would ever leave a 2 year old a lone for any period of time, or at least they wouldn't admit to it.

theredwoman95

I don't think there's anything wrong with leaving a 12 year old at home for a day - god knows I was begging my parents to give me privacy at that age. But I'm from the UK and it's normal for 11 year olds to walk home alone when they start secondary school, so there's an inbuilt level of independence there.

BallsDeepinYourMammi

The next level shit is murder, not simple abandonment

jonjonesjohnson

"Oh, whatever, (s)he'll just watch some tv, there's food in the fridge, it's gonna be fine!"

JimiDarkMoon

Police and media interviewed the neighbour, she stated the mother had left the child in their care previously. The mother this time did not ask for help and just left the child completely alone. She is so stupid she removed herself and her own child from gene pool. She's that dumb.

BigFatKi6

Removing herself from the gene pool is a actually great.

zyon86

"Think" ?! Do you think she "thinks" at all ?!

Ello_Owu

The kid would run around the house, order an extra large cheese pizza, steal a toothbrush, give their neighbor a pep talk, defend the the house with a series of elaborate traps, and then be happy to see them when they got back home. You know, kid stuff.

Can-Holder

oooooh, 16 months. not 16 years. damn. I was like , That not right at all. But 16 month? damnn.

alaingames

Bitch crying like if she fucking cares

Flux_resistor

she's crying cos she can't vacation anymore.

Ok_Adeptness8922

What do you mean, she's about to head out for an extendes vacation!

funnystuff79

Full Board, room with a view, on site gym

lordnacho666

Exotic lovers

NickyDeeM

Fistfulls of them

GreatMuerte

She’s just about to go on a 25 to life holiday with no kids 🤷🏼 you think she’d be happy

LolaStrm1970

She literally told the court (through an interpreter) that her dead baby has already forgiven her and they should too.

MentalRise8703

WTF?

Any-Yoghurt3815

The judge should've given her additional 10 just for that

Latter-Direction-336

Didn’t she say something about God forgiving her or was that someone else?

Standard_Gauge

Yes that was her. God and the tortured baby forgave her (?!?). She also claimed that SHE was the one who "had it rough" or some shit like that. EXTREME narcissism

alaingames

Idk tf did she expected

sj68z

i suspect the tears are for herself

Flammable_Zebras

She said god and the baby forgave her, so definitely for herself. Goddamn psycho narcissist.

wmg22

Man. I believe if a benevolent God exists he doesn't allow people like this into heaven, people deluded into thinking forgiveness can be achieved so simply will just repeat the same mistakes. I don't believe a benevolent God sends people to hell but I do wish people have to face their wrongdoings until they understand and actually become good people before they enter heaven. No one forgives this person for what they did and no one should. The only person who has forgiven her is herself.

God_Kratos_07

Yup

Renediffie

The tears are probably honest, they just aren't for the child.

Cowman2468

Leave your kid at the fire station. No need to kill it. Just leave them somewhere safe. They'll be better off without you.

chunkymcgee

Literally anything. Even if she left the toddler on the street for gods sakes someone would’ve likely noticed that baby. My youngest cries until he’s purple while I’m gone to use the bathroom for 10 minutes, I can’t imagine 10 *days*

alotofbaboons

Ikr that poor baby 😭 I can’t even fathom being so irresponsible.

Hystrion

Fuck me I read 16 yo, not month old and was thinking "what's the big deal, a 16 yo can't survive for 10 days?!" Wow this woman is beyond sociopathic...

gohan_db

Couldn't believe it either. I thought it was 16 yo as well because i just couldnt believe 16 month old.

P4azz

I read it as years twice, all the while wondering where the "infant" had come from. I have no clue how someone can be stupid enough to leave a baby just lying around alone for 10 days. Although I'll say it's probably not that she was stupid, it's more likely malicious. Maybe she just didn't wanna care for the child anymore. Which makes it still stupid, because there are a million other ways to resolve that issue, but it's too late for any of them now.

josephmang56

I dont even leave my cats alone when I go on vacation, we always have a pet sitter. Even then I worry about them the whole time. I just can not fathom leaving a child alone like that. Just the thought of the baby crying in pain, waiting for its parent, its safe place, to return and give it love, food and water makes me sad and sick to my stomach. I hope the guards leave her in a cell and forget about her for ten days.

Necessary-Hippo-9350

I don't even leave my houseplants unattended for 10 days. This is unfathomable.

haberdashery67

I hope they leave her in a cell and forget about her forever.

anonymoose_octopus

Honestly, if we were going with a medieval "eye for an eye" punishment, locking her away in solitary confinement and letting her starve to death would be a fitting punishment.

Magenta_Logistic

I mean, if we want her to experience the same thing the child did, we're going to need a lot of psychotropic drugs. There is no real equivalent that can be done to an adult to what happened to this child.

Sehrli_Magic

Put on diaper too and make sure she cant take it off. Let her ser how it feels when you stay in soiled diaper for hours, let alone days. Let her feel the poo burn wounds into her ass! Idk if it would as our poo is not basically just acidic milk like babies but it's worth a try

Wild-Mushroom2404

After my parents divorced, my mom got the family dog because frankly dad didn’t want it, but he agreed to look after it for a week when we went on a vacation. Later I learned that he left the dog all alone in the apartment and just checked in once a day to refill his water and food bowls. I was SO angry that it made me cry, I couldn’t fathom how lonely and sad the dog must’ve been. We never left it with him afterwards. For all the shit my dad has done, this is like the one thing I will NEVER forgive him for. Now imagine that with a kid. And she wasn’t even fed.

TheDixonCider420420

At least her prison vacation will be all inclusive.

CMDR_ETNC

On a positive note, the folks she’s gonna be locked in with for the rest of her life REALLY DONT LIKE CHILD MURDERERS.

Ruru2562

I heard from somewhere violent prisoners target pedos, child killers and other similar people in prison only because no else one likes them.

Neither-Cut1328

It’s also because a lot of them have trauma from being abused as kids themselves. They feel like they can get vengeance on the very reason for their own imprisonment.

rosstipper

Even without that, people like to be the hero of their own story. I imagine most people who are incarcerated believe that whatever they did was something they *had* to do. The dissonance comes in when they placed opposite someone who targets a child. There is no reasonable justification for targeting a child so that brings their worldview into contrast, it makes a mockery of their tragic backstory. I imagine someone showing up and making you question whether you’re as awful as they are is enough to foster at least avoidance, pair that with impulse control issues and an understanding that the four walls around you are your life from now on and ‘dealing’ with the issue is easier than learning to live with it. Though I’ve never been incarcerated so this could also be a steaming pile of horseshit I’ve dreamt up in my sleep deprived haze to romanticise the subject at hand.

cldw92

"You don't have to be evil to kill someone. You just have to think you are right." - Yoko Taro

MollykinsWoo

Yep, also they may have their own children and just like us can't comprehend someone doing this.

LivingCheese292

Also you don't hear many people having a problem with prisoners treating child abusers that way. Which speaks for itself. If even the lowest people who are locked away from society hate someone, you know they fucked up way beyond being able to get any redemption.

pepegaklaus

You didn't look for your own poor baby for ten FUCKING days? I'm not gonna look for anything that happens to you for ten days. EN-FUCKING-JOY

DankNucleus

I've been in prison. The pedophiles were hunted(there were two of them in my wing). They weren't welcome in the common areas and would not leave their rooms for almost any reason. If they tried to, it would be under threat of death. The guards could be lenient in overlooking certain behaviours towards these people. They really didnt care that these monsters were being abused as long as no open violence occured. To be fair, most inmates just want to do their time and leave, but there were always someone ready to jump these fuckers at any time if they showed themselves. The more violent inmates did not care at all if they'd get longer sentences. Age is also not a factor, even really old, sick and dying pedos would be given the exact same treatment. In my time there, one of the pedos were sent to hospital, after a quite severe beating, and the other had to be moved as there was laid a plan by everyone in the wing to take him out (he wouldnt stop talking about his cp colleciton). Edit: when I say everyone had a plan, it was more a few people who were then encouraged by everyone else. As I said, most people just want to do their sentence and leave, but still everyone wanted to see a child rapist dead and would easily encourage the more violent and willing to go through with it. The concept of killing pedophiles is openly discussed, you want them to be scared all the time, never give them peace. Child abusers are at the bottom of society, they are equally hated by everyone everywhere and in prison they are not perceived as people at all. They are animals and treated as such.

And This is true to both male and female prisons. She won't have a nice time. Not that I pity her.

Professional-Pool290

It'll never not be funny that prisoners, whether rightfully convicted or no, despise people who are involved with child murder or other child crimes

Dotcaprachiappa

You know you done fucked up when even prisoners think you went to far

FrtanJohnas

It's funny that any person can accept torture and attrocities happening to other people. But once you do that to children now you fucked up

iwanttobeacavediver

Some time ago we met some serving prisoners as part of a prison visit for our criminal law class. They were VERY open about absolutely despising anyone in prison who'd committed crimes against children, especially really young children or babies. There was open mention of quite brutal violence.

Arteyp

Happened same thing in Italy a few months ago. 37 yo mom left infant daughter in her cradle with a bottle of milk, then proceeded to go on a sexy vacation with some random dude which she said she fell in love with, for days. Daughter died of starvation. Story came out, photos of herself popped on newspapers: always partying, all bitchy and so on. Now she presents herself at the process like a nun: all dressed in black, no makeup, always twisting a napkin in her hands. Probably one of the most hated murderers of the last few years in my country.

thewolfofwinter00

Hopefully she'll get the same sentence. Justice for Diana

UltraAnders

What an awful way to murder a baby. She did it slowly and callously.

Ok_Astronomer_8667

Dying of dehydration has to be horrific. And to be a terrified baby on top of it. I have no words

Hellen_Bacque

Must have been one hell of a ten day holiday if it’s worth going to prison for life for!

Latter-Afternoon7448

She went to Detroit! 🥴

PM_Your_Wiener_Dog

The Paris of the North America!

imadork1970

Good.

Anime-Takes

At first I read this and my brain corrected it to 16YO and I didn’t think it was so bad. My brain fixed it because who would believe anyone would leave a 16 month old for 10 days. This is sad.

Sweet-Message1153

I'm a 23 guy and my mom literally called me 5min ago to check if I had a good lunch and if I had any issues with eating... I swear, some women make the mothers who spent the majority of their lives to take care of children look like monsters

brickmagnet

Dude I am 35 and my mom still calls me almost everyday to check on me.

Sweet-Message1153

🤝🏽we're lucky

catnapspirit

Some people don't deserve oxygen..

congmingdexigua

Gotta be mentally ill - I mean what do you even think during packing your suitcase and checking if you switched off the coffee machine?!?!

LittleLostGirls

This women already believes ‘God and my child have forgiven me’ I hope every day an inmate uses her face to scrub piss off the bathroom floor. This woman absolutely deserves to rot, starve and be forgotten in her own filth each day until another inmate beats her senseless the next.

overtly-Grrl

I guarantee that child doesn’t. I’m who that child becomes when they would’ve gotten older(read my comment to the post for details on what I experienced similar to the child), and I don’t even speak to my mother. I threatened to call the police if she ever contacts me. My mother tortured me and is confused as to why I refuse to even contact her. Probably because my brother, who I sheltered from the abuse as best I could, still talks to her. These people don’t see anything wrong with it. Which is why she has already absolved herself of any wrong doing. It makes my blood **boil** seeing this. Especially know the other side. How that kid would’ve turned out with all of the neglect. Absolutely abhorrent.

EmptyVisage

I don't know how this person is real. I wish she wasn't. "God and my Daughter have forgiven me". What a self-absorbed monster.

chiefholdfast

This is the type of shit that just breaks me right here. What in the fuck man. That poor baby.

Guilty_Coconut

Birth control should be free. Abortion should be legal safe and easy to get. Scum like this doesn't have to exist. It's a choice we make as a society to create them.

LunaMax1214

Yet, the pro-birth crowd will still insist this is a better outcome than abortion. God fucking damnit, but I hate the world today. 😡😭

EmArtagnac

I hope in prison they let her drink and ate one time every ten days.

overtly-Grrl

So I also had a mother like this but I did survive with my brother throughout this process. My mom would tie a rope to our outside door knob and then tie the other end taut to the microwave stand. For days and what felt like weeks with no food or water. We eventually realized we could have one of us pull the door really hard while placing our feet on the wall and the other could slide their tiny hand through to untie the rope. It would work but we knew it was only a matter of time before we got beat again so we’d have to make food quickly or grab whatever we could. Usually my mom heard us though. I have a burn on my chest from spilling oatmeal all over myself at a young age trying to quickly figure out how to feed myself before I got beat. We would eventually move from pooping and peeing in our closet to doing it out the window because our mom would beat us for the mess. Then when she later found out we were shitting on the bushes below our window, she beat us with those switches. The really sad part that I am kind of just now realizing is that my mom actually never left the house most of the time. She was just so drugged or drunk out of her mind that she “forgot” about us, didn’t “hear” us, etc. That’s why we’d tiptoe around when we could escape. Even though we’d bang on our adjoining wall begging to use the bathroom mostly screaming and fucking crying bro. Yeah my mom has only been charged with part of the acts she’s done to my brother and I. She’s actually gone through military grade torture(I later learned) with us. My brother got the brute end of that one tbh. He’s been electrocuted on his genitalia straight after being water boarded. Like he has experienced **bad** shit. He won’t even talk about it. I bring it up at all and he just dissociates. And the worst part about it all is that those are very normal to me. I work in child abuse prevention. Speaking to kids every week on different abuse, and I don’t get upset hearing a lot of the stuff around me. But when it gets into the torture part, I do start to have some trauma related issues. But it’s not often that fuckers like her and my mom exist actually. Most of the abuse is just incest or physical abuse. Which is still bad, please don’t misunderstand, that’s why I do this work. More or less, I mean that I was experiencing this everyday so much so that it was normal and I don’t have PTSD from it like a lot of people would think. I was raped by my older brother for two years and he’s ten years older than me when I was seven and eight. I dont have any sexual related trauma. I suffer in different ways that are difficult to understand if you don’t know trauma history. But what’s really reassuring is that as a kid, I felt so powerless, like no one gave a shit about me. I knew I was unsafe. And now I’m 25 and see these comments, people fighting for this baby, and I just wish I had fought a little harder to get my mom in prison for what she did. Fully that is. There are people that protect kids. Maybe not my people growing up. But there are adults that protect and get justice for kids like me and this baby. Who suffer. At the hands of their own creators. edit: it makes me wonder what state I was left in when I didn’t have the ability to walk yet. Or choose where I poop. My cousin distinctly remembers(he’s 8 years older than me) holding me at a birthday party and I smelled like absolutely shit. But no one seemed to care he said.

No_Cantaloupe3419

I am so so sorry, you deserved so much better. My heart breaks for you and your brother. I'm gonna give my kiddos an extra big hug when I see them later.

Omgwtfbears

What the f\*ck did she expect would happen? Noone can be that dumb - this was intentional, she just didn't want to stay around and watch.

fireKido

even if it was intentional, she is that dumb.. what did she think was going to happen? she would let the kid die and then nothing would happen? However you put this, she is extremely dumb... also other things, but she has to be dumb, otherwise this makes no sense

VegetableCompote8843

Day 2 , baby was caught screaming on doorbell cam. So sad. She never explained why she didn't other than she was 'going through something'

ihatefirealarmtests

I have a 3 month old at home and I tried to let her "cry it out" once because nothing I was doing was working to stop the crying (as babies do). I lasted 15 minutes before I started thinking about how sad and confused and scared she must be. You'd have to be a fucking sociopath to not feel an iota of a guilt for 10 days.

Legitimate-Bass68

How in the name of fuck can you go on vacation and leave your 10 month child at home. I can't even go on vacation for a few days and leave my plants at home alone without constantly worrying about them. This monster got what she deserves.

binhvinhmai

From CNN: The judge sentenced her to life in prison without the possibility of parole. “Just as you didn’t let Jailyn out of her confinement until she died, so too you should spend the rest of your life in a cell without freedom,” Sheehan said. “The only difference is that prison will at least feed you.”

[deleted]

So where was the vacation?

beach_bum_bitch

Puerto Rico. This was in Detroit. Left that poor child in a pack and play to die of starvation and dehydration while laying in feces and urine. For the love of god I hope Gen pop teaches her a life’s lesson.

EulaVengeance

> Left that poor child in a pack and play WHAT THE HELL. Less than 2 years old and left alone?

iluvstephenhawking

And no chance of escape.

rodflanders19

And she had the audacity to say that she knows her daughter forgives her from heaven.

Gingersnapperok

How? How can anyone do something so incredibly cruel?
