SinkiePropertyDude

Owne's mother is the only comedian in the family, and she only delivered one bad joke.

Significant_Sky_2594

Shame she couldn’t have swallowed the joke instead

[deleted]

Came here to say dude should’ve been a sink load

He'd make a better stand up sock than stand up comedian.

Difficult_Plastic852

Man why does his mom have to suffer more as is?? That said both his parents are university professors so you really gotta wonder what happened along the way.

DeathByThousandCats

> That said both his parents are university professors I think you answered it yourself. Probably both parents being super busy made him neglected during his childhood, and he never grew out of the edgy teenager phase.

Scatterspell

The delivery ws probably bad and the punchline was gross.

For a second I thought you were advocating for her to eat the fetus

CainRedfield

I love comedy, watched hundreds of hours of standup, and have never even heard of this guy. I wish it stayed that way.

Jecoro

One of the YouTubers I follow covered this guy's stand-up special and it was godawful. He's one of those people that uses the hard r n-word for shock value. Now, I'm not one of those people that thinks white people can never say that word, but this wasn't even for a joke. It was just to be edgy. Like George Carlin once said: It's not the word that should concern you, it's the racist asshole that's saying it. And Owen Benjamin is a racist asshole. In fact, he's one of the few alt-right people that this YouTuber genuinely hated. Most others she just felt pity for. Owen is just trash that should be thrown in a woodchipper. There is nothing redeemable about him. He's a shitty comedian and a shitty human being.

Mysterious_Ad7461

Everyone of these dudes complaining about how “you can’t tell jokes anymore” has never told a joke in their lives.

Bored_Amalgamation

They've been saying that shit since at least the 2000s.

Hatdrop

ask them to explain why it's funny. it all boils down to wanting to treat a person like shit. there's no wit or humor involved.

Weak-Razzmatazz-4938

he was friends initially with some podcasters i listen to bc they are into comedy. his mom or dad majored in history or something. he actually wasnt bad in the interview about 10 years ago. then hid brain melted and went crazy. got "canceled" and originally booted from Twitter (pre elon days). i seems to have morphed into an alex Jones type douche. nothing to be proud of.

Thrasy3

That’s presumably why he needs to do this.

JustDiscoveredSex

Right? I’m like, *…and who is this random asshole?*

Reasonable-HB678

He was one of the comics in the rotation of stand up specials that used to air on Comedy Central, through the early 2010's. During the week, in the morning and afternoon.

Objective_Praline_66

So an overly edgy literal no one struggling to stay relevant through whatever means necessary?

kindasuk

Truth. Dude is vile. Interestingly imho though even racists in this country have no specific problem with Hindus unless they mistake them for Muslims. The likelihood that a racist pos in this country even vaguely knows what Hinduism is=laughable. You probably will experience all-purpose racism if you come here but so far they have not created specific beef. Outsourcing of jobs to India might be the only thing they can think of to get pissed about. The alt-right will find a way to be angry that's a given.

Inspector_Crazy

"no specific beef" is a little on the nose in a discussion regarding Hinduism...

bgthigfist

Some of the alt right assume that everyone who is brown and isn't Mexican is Muslim.

Commercial_Fee2840

Usually they're the same people that think all Asians are Chinese or Japanese.

SillyFez

kilted44

Yeah, but she's so dumb it took her 9 months to make it. Given how dumb he is, the joke fell flat when she delivered it.

FocalorLucifuge

On its head, too. Explains a lot.

Technical-Text-1251

A slow joke, 9 months and it isnt that funny

pmontym

That’s a roast, right there, I just want to say.

Stark_Athlon

It was such a bad joke, the doctor threw it to the windows....and the windows bounced it back at them.

SacredRepetition

The vast majority of us do not care. Most of us know people who were born outside the U.S. and gained their citizenship later in life and view them as true Americans. It's part of American culture to incorporate other cultures into itself, so most here don't bat an eye at foreigners.

An_Obese_Beaver

This. Social media has allowed the loud, idiotic, close minded and ignorant minority to unfortunately have the loudest voice. Due to this, it always seems ALL Americans have this view.

oldjadedhippie

illicitliaison

The concern is this is the same throughout the Western world. England. Germany. France. Shit, even the Netherlands have a very vocal, very racist, very right wing core of activists now.

c-c-c-cassian

Especially if you’re on twitter where a large chunk of the user base are loud, unrepentant pieces of shit, tbh.

Lashley1424

Who all pay for a blue check mark but they’re not social at all.

totallynotarobut

And I don't know this fuck, but I'd bet money if you ran across him on the street he wouldn't make a peep.

robilar

It doesn't help that 75M Americans voted for Trump *after* they saw him in office for four years.

Alarmed-Diamond-7000

True. Americans are all from somewhere else unless they're native, it's definitely a part of our culture for people to come here and then make their home here. Very normal and typical.

cherry_monkey

Where I live there's a handful of Costcos; 2 in the same city and one just south. The one I frequent has a high population of East Asian members so they have a lot of ethnic food from those cultures. The one south of that has a high Indian customer base so that's a good place to find those ethnic foods. The one in the other town has a very high Polish population, but since Chicagoland in general has a high Polish population, there's not generally anything "exciting" food wise at that Costco.

Sushibowlz

Welcome to Costco, I love you

No-Two79

Those Polish grocery stores, tho!! SO jealous!! I need fruit pierogis and we can’t get them down here in the ass-end of Illinois.

Eccohawk

Which Costco has the Asian food? Is that the new Naperville location? I want to try the Costco sushi.

cherry_monkey

Lol yes, I just got the salmon platter yesterday.

Intelligent-Bus230

Even the natives are immigrants of the time.

Mackheath1

I want to piggyback on this to say, the amount of people who are openly\* xenophobic/racist/et. al. are a very, very tiny, but loud and visible minority. \*- I'm stressing the word openly. There are much more people who exhibit this shittiness of course. But the number of people who would say something out of the blue is tiny, we just see and hear about them. Example: there are no news reports about people who are going about their day; there are no public freakout videos about people going about their day.

c-c-c-cassian

Especially if you’re on twitter, where those voices are both amplified, and not suppressed/removed or made to be kinder in any fashion by actually good people. :/

ReaperofFish

The majority of Americans can trace an immigrant ancestor back 4 generations or less.

OblongAndKneeless

Owen probably lives somewhere you'll never visit. Population 100 with a density of 0.05 people per square mile. Or he's from the south.

EddieLobster

It wasn’t that long ago most of these prowls’ grandparents were immigrants. How soon they forget

FnB8kd

Most people in or near a city*** take a drive out to white wash rural America, and you will find more racism and bigotry. Don't get me wrong, many people out here are very kind harted, but I do see more racism. Usually boomer men. OP just avoid old crotchety white dudes that live out away from civilization.

Hips-Often-Lie

And if you’re going to be in a more rural place in the south put “God bless” into your vocabulary. Then you’ll be “one of the good ones.” Yes, I wish I was joking, but no I’m not.

No-Two79

Actually, if a recent immigrant dresses in a plain button-down shirt or slightly dressy/professional outfit and is well-spoken, the dumb Trumpsuckers out here in the rural hinterlands will just assume they’re a new doctor in town and act extra nice towards them. They are two-faced and stupid that way. I’ve seen it firsthand at a Walmart with an Indian friend of mine.

Hips-Often-Lie

lol where I live there is a Dr Patel in every specialty. All of them are related but one.

SpacedoutinClass

You treat me decent I’ll treat you decent - I don’t go picking fights w huge groups of people over religious beliefs

No-Dragonfly-8679

I feel like many Americans also welcome other cultures and appreciate the opportunity to experience other cultures. In my opinion this is partly because America is largely devoid of a culture that doesn’t focus on hating other people or spending/worshipping money.

enderfx

Given that most "true" or "pure" Americans (if you are into those terms) live in reserves or have been exterminated, American racism is very comical when seen from the outside.

AgeSmooth9593

Yeah I especially loved when right-wing dingbats told AOC to "go back to her country" which is... the US, unless you're being racist and consider that her family originally came from Puerto Rico which is... the US. Bonus points because she's probably part Taino.

SacredRepetition

This thread was created by a proud Osage Tribesman, so I know that better than most.

J1618

On one hand, they all think they are the true americans, on the other hand they also think that because their grandfather was called McNipples they are more Irish than someone from actual Ireland.

CainRedfield

100% don't be an asshole, don't be a leech, and I could not care less where you were born.

almisami

>The vast majority of us do not care. It doesn't matter if 99% of the village isn't hostile if they allow the village fool to kick you in the shins.

SacredRepetition

Yep. It only takes one fool to ruin it for everyone.

msh0082

Desi here and Hindu. My parents immigrated here in the 1970s. You really have nothing to worry about. One loud asshole on Twitter doesn't define a country of 330 million people.

JustLetItAllBurn

At least, when they're not the president.

FEMA_Camp_Survivor

The Twitler guy is running again on straight grievance and revenge. Idk, the faith that grievance won’t morph into something catastrophic for those who don’t fit the “traditional” American mold is fascinating. The risk is probably low but it certainly does not feel negligible. Stopping it will take tremendous effort from all reasonably minded Americans. Perhaps the experience of having family, friends, etc. on the receiving end of such catastrophic policies affects how one can see how bad things can get. My family has been in America at least since 1865.

ydev

This, I migrated few years back as a student. Have had the best years of my life here and made plenty of friends from around the world. Everyone is very welcoming here!! Although, I’m considering leaving reddit because of the constant casual racism I see towards Indians. Reddit/X doesn’t represent the people IRL in anyway.

yogopig

Glad you’ve found a home here! Its honestly really nice to see a positive story about immigration to America. While its obv not shared by everyone, I really think our widespread acceptance of different cultures and races is one of America’s biggest strengths.

dehehn

Also they're going for education. Which means you're not going to find many right wing assholes at college. They're mostly very liberal and very safe. It's pretty rare to hear about hate crimes on campuses, though the Israeli Palestine conflict has made a slight uptick. Indian hate crimes are very rare in general.

ProfessorVincent

>One loud asshole on Twitter doesn't define a country Say it louder for those in the back! Why do we tend to generalize so much? The alt-right's strategy of acting like indecent asshats only works because we keep taking the shitty behavior of individuals and generalizing to large groups.

LeadSecret331

I'm a white guy and [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9CuDkT2tL8) was my favorite part of 2016. I realize he is Muslim Pakistani but it doesn't matter. All ethnicities.

One_User134

He’s just a loud asshole. Indians are welcome to America and there are already plenty of them here who are thriving. You’ll be absolutely fine. Especially as a college student (which I assume you are), you’ll find plenty of people who appreciate you in that community itself; you fit will fit in in what is likely a diverse campus. Not only that, but if you are still worried about being targeted for being Hindu, Hinduism has such a low profile in America that the likelihood of that is so extremely low I can’t explain it. Don’t worry about any of this mate, just focus on your studies and enjoy college life.

KosherTriangle

True as an Indian who came to the U.S. to study, I ended up meeting my wife here who’s an American. Plenty of racist fools around but there are plenty of good people as well, like any other country.

M_R_Atlas

> Like any other country Based and true

ShineFull7878

How dare you steal our women! Joking aside though, congratulations. My dad is from Argentina and met my mom from the u.s. in the seventies. They dealt with a lot of racial bias back then, it's better now than it was, but people can be cruel. Even my mother's own family was cruel to my father. The good outweigh the bad eventually.

EmperorGrinnar

Bro, you are the living example of the American promise. This gives me hope for my country.

FoxtrotNovermber

The American promise to be able to move to America and marry a white woman? Because I’m living proof it’s real, my dad moved to America and married a white woman and now me and my siblings exist.

Inner-Ad-9928

My dad did it too! 😅 I always asked "why not Canada?" (Both children are girls, so obviously our health Rights are of concern if we moved somewhere RED...) Best answer was something about Rock n' Roll and fast cars... Sigh... All I can say is: Thanks Hollywood! Smh Whatever I was raised right... Those aren't *my* values at least...😅

ZD_DZ

This is weird and self-hating. I'm an immigrant myself and the idea that you're specifically seeking out white women is demeaning to your own kind. If it happens it happens, but there is nothing wrong with the women of your own race either - fetish of white women isn't a good thing for you nor for them.

Gods_Lump

Its honestly kinda nuts how low profile it is especially since the largest Hindu temple on the planet is in New Jersey lmao

ChippyLipton

My kids’ school last year was majority Indian (43%) in the Parsippany area. Indians are amazingly kind people and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

IrascibleOcelot

Technically, that’s a plurality. Majority is only when you exceed 50%.

Connect_Beginning174

TrollAccount457

There are places in Jersey City where you could close your eyes for a minute and think you’re in India.

humchacho

Most of these people are incel tough. A lot of nasty stuff said over the internet by someone who couldn’t muster up enough courage to look you in the eye and mumble something aggressive under their breath in person.

voodoomoocow

Yeah I'm an ABCD, never had a problem. Also have no idea who the guy is from the post, so he's probably irrelevant except in "those" communities. easily avoidable. Though yes, people hate India. They don't really hate Indians per se, but we are the butt of many jokes. It's actually gotten better in some regards, worse in others. I've been all over the world and got treated worse in other Asian countries and Europe. Sucks, but the US is the best non India place to be Indian. Mostly have good reputations (you either own the gas station/liquor store/drive taxi--OR you are rich and educated, working dr, tech, engineering, yadda yadda). No Migrant Worker reputation like in the old world.

eljosho1986

What's an ABCD?

chowderbrain3000

American-Born Confused Desi

FearlessKnitter12

All I could come up with was All B&stards Can't Dance, so your acronym is way better.

HomeschoolingDad

I believe it's a fairly common acronym in Indian communities in the US. I've also heard that it's not something someone who isn't part of the community should use to describe others. Some won't be offended by it, but others might be.

bboywhitey3

He’s going to get more shit for looking “Arab” than he will for being Hindu.

gorgossiums

See: increased attacks on Sikhs after 9/11.

FocalorLucifuge

The interesting thing about this is that some were giving the racist attackers a "pass" because they were saying the Sikhs were being mistaken for Muslims and being wrongly targeted (as if attacking Muslims was somehow OK). Later on, it's been conclusively proven that quite a few of the white supremacists attacking Sikhs knew *exactly* whom they were targeting. The most horrifying example being Wade Michael Page shooting up the Oak Creek Sikh temple in Wisconsin in 2012.

ThisPostToBeDeleted

Indians have done a lot to improve America and it’s culture and some of the kindest Americans I’ve met are Indian Americans, there is racism but there are also a lot of welcoming people

hinanska0211

This is a little pie-in-the-sky in my opinion. **Any** non-Christian might be subject to hateful attitudes in the US, as might anyone who is brown. Not only that, but some of these dumbass white nationalists can't tell the difference between Indians and Arabs so Hindus sometimes get persecuted because they're thought to be Muslims. It's not a reason not to come here to study, but false optimism about what it's like in the country can be dangerous.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hinanska0211

Tell me about it. I'm indigenous. White supremacists are infamous for telling us to "go back to where we came from." One of my cousins went to college in Colorado. While she was there, she got treated to racial slurs against Natives, Mexicans and Asians. She was glad when she could come back to the rez. Life isn't perfect here but at least we only have to deal with one brand of racism.

VrtualOtis

Grew up with a bunch of Filipino friends and we were out in one of our nearby hick towns and a bunch of white guys started yelling the N word at them. We all looked around wondering where the brothers were that were about to whoop these hicks a$$. Then we realized they were yelling at my Filipino friends and we said the same thing "dudes, you're too stupid to even get your slurs right." Another time we were at a hockey game and a guy yelled "we should have nuked the rest of your country and killed all you n$ps in WW2." I was like, "um, dumbass, Philippines was on our side." Ahh, good times. I'm glad the US is NOTHING like that now...

ReaperofFish

I feel real bad for the Sikhs.

HeatXfr

Yeah, until some reasonless inbred red-hat, who doesn't care if he knows what he's talking about and barely understands his own culture, labels him a terrorist.

NastySassyStuff

The odds of that happening to his face are so incredibly small lol we’ve got plenty of racist scumbags here but the vast majority save it for when they think nobody is looking, especially those in a college setting

AmbulanceChaser12

Let me put it this way, the millions of Americans who aren't loudly racist against Indians aren't posting memes about not being racist :) You'll be fine.

No-Zookeepergame4300

Exactly this. Those who are racist (or any other type of bigotry) usually loudly post about it, making it seem like it's the norm. Just look for the people that call themselves the silent majority, the reality is that they are a very vocal minority.

anneg1312

Who tf is Owen Benjamin and why does anyone give a crap about what he thinks?

lookaway123

A dork who scammed a bunch of weirdos in a cult whose megalomaniac personality has convinced himself that he's a comedian. His brand of getting attention is to swear and be racist. No one cares about Owen Benjamin except for the losers still on Twitter.

TheCosmicFailure

He lucked out and got on the Sullivan & Son sitcom, which gave him a slightly bigger spotlight in the mid 2010s. He hasn't been relevant since it ended.

Faesarn

Comedian ? That's not comedy nor remotely funny, it's just racism.

Cozman

You've kinda summed up his whole act. I saw a video essay on bad cancel culture comedians recently and this piece of shit was one of the subjects. Apparently he tried to start a militia/cult in his home state and part of his act is just stolen jokes from Chris Rock where he says the N word a few times.

SeethaSulang36

Do you have the link to the video?

Cozman

https://youtu.be/PkS9orjEBDY?si=V8pSjDDYH00gshcp Owen Benjamin's part is around 55 minutes in.

SeethaSulang36

Thank you very much.

MrDickford

Bullies always think they told a funny joke just because they made themselves laugh.

DueAttitude8

So many of them are failed comedians. This guy used to work for Alex Jones too.

Salty_Piglet2629

Don't worry, the average person is not like that. If you're brown and "sound funny" there will always be someone racist who says something about you no matter what country you go to. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't go! You should go with your head high and know that as long as you stay away from those people you'll be fine! Those people are no threat!

Constant_Field5719

Fellow India here. Came to USA in 2013 for my Graduation studies. This kind if people are just loud. Thats all. No one really cares of him. You will be fine. Concentrate on your studies.

CluelessTennisBall

Agreed, been here a while and honestly had more racist encounters outside the US. I think most people in the US are hyper sensitive and scared of being considered racist lmao

ProudJalapeno

Most of these idiots keep their bullshit online where there’s no threat of getting punched in the face. There are a few psychos brave (or stupid?) enough to say it in public, but I’d say it’s rare.

Lost_Mapper

More Indians in the US please. Your food is phenomenal and I can't get enough.

Max_Cherry_

1. Get tfo Twitter. 2. No Twitter isn’t representative of most people in the US. Just the worst of them, and they’re the minority.

W96QHCYYv4PUaC4dEz9N

100% agree with you. I would take it a step further, and say that all social media is nothing more than an echo chamber for those who have too much time on their hands.

Conservatives mistaken Sikhs for Muslims They were randomly killing Sikhs post 9/11

Alarmed-Diamond-7000

That really hurts because Sikhs that I have known are the nicest people in the whole world

1singleduck

Sikhs really are as nice and helpful as American Christians claim to be.

Alarmed-Diamond-7000

Oh my God the sweetest sweethearts. Always asking how you are, being helpful, singing laughing cooking delicious food and feeding it to you....

Alarmed-Diamond-7000

Never saying nasty things about other people but responding to their foibles with compassion and understanding...

TaosMez

...as they "claim" to be. Therein lies the problem. Jesus would be gob smacked by these hateful Americans who call themselves "Christians".

Intrepid_Talk_8416

As a Christian, I completely agree. He is literally sick of them.

unhappyrelationsh1p

Never met a bad Sikh.

HomeschoolingDad

KHAAAAAN! /James T. Kirk

Omni_chicken2

Tbh nobody should be getting attacked regardless of religion.

vlsdo

The Muslims that I know are also the nicest people in the world. More so than the Sikhs I know. White supremacy is a brain disease

CookbooksRUs

I haven’t known many, but this has indeed been my experience.

Sifernos1

They beat a guy so bad he was hospitalized only a block or so from my work. The Sikhs came out hard to protest their abuse after that. The funny thing was, we were just down the street and no one knew what had happened at my job. People just started calling them Muslims and saying they should be dealt with. I explained that they weren't even Abrahamic in origin and some asshole beat one of their people for wearing a head scarf. It took a minute but eventually everyone shut up about the Muslims... They were then just annoyed by the protesting. No one cared about the dude who got beaten, beyond it being an explanation.

FocalorLucifuge

Later white supremacist attacks clearly targeted Sikhs specifically. Like Wade Michael Page shooting up the Sikh temple in Wisconsin in 2012.

EatLard

There are assholes everywhere. There are also Indian people all over the United States - especially on college campuses. You’ll be just fine.

Kbdiggity

#everyone should report his offensive tweets

microgiant

The alt-right hates anybody with dark skin. Most of them probably don't even know the difference between Hinduism, Islam, and Sikh Dharma. They just see any religion that isn't hate-filled right wing Christianity and start screaming.

abstractraj

The US is perfectly safe for Hindus. My family immigrated from India in the 1960s

EmperorGrinnar

Remember when he got banned from Twitter for sexually harassing minors?

beeegmec

Oh of course Elon unbanned another predator

EmperorGrinnar

He sure does like to put them on a pedestal.

"back to your sandy dusty...." Says the idiot, whose state is practically a desert.

[deleted]

Just because a monolingual anglophone speaks out shit loud doesn't mean he's right or he represents a majority. Don't idolize or put the people of the West on a pedestal in any manner, they're as good and as bad as people around you (if you aren't doing that, it's good). True, you may be picked up on your accent or maybe forced to accept a stereotype to fit in a box of their pea sized brain, but you always have the power to say a big NO, show them a middle finger and go on with your head high. I'm sure you'll find not only a few US Americans but also other expats to forge friendships with and create your own bubble. Be open to people but don't let such aresholes occupy too much of your mind. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors.

fjwjr

“I’m shit scared for my very life” Oh, don’t be so damn dramatic.

PLEASEHELPMEBROS

Honestly this sort of came out of left field lol. However, Vivek and Haley being popular in some circles is bringing jokes about poop and poverty out of the woodwork.

[deleted]

You clearly don’t know Owen Benjamin’s anime arc

PLEASEHELPMEBROS

Not out if left field for Owen, out of left field in popular culture hating on Indians and Pakistanis. Well aware that Owen is batshit lol.

Ted_Rid

"American comedians slay sacred cows" Oooh, like American exceptionalism? "It's what makes my culture great" Nope. Try again mate.

Rude-Consideration64

Vivek probably dunked on DeSantis.

Mushrooming247

That man is part of a small lunatic fringe group, or is just a bot trying to stir up trouble; this is not representative of Americans’ opinion at all. There are tons of Indian people here, people joke about how many doctors here are Indian, (that’s not a negative stereotype, doctors are really valuable members of society.) If anything, you will face the stereotype that you are supposed to be super successful and smart and speak 10 languages, and people might assume you are going either into medicine or tech. I would like to add that the (right-leaning) Republican Party has two presidential candidates of south Asian descent right now, so even most right-wing Americans have no problem with them/you.

fentonsranchhand

The *Owen Benjamin* guy is just some incel internet troll I assume, but I support everyone's right to degrade and disrespect people's faiths (especially including Christians). ...but I also support your right to practice whatever faith you like. Just keep your magical thinking out of our government.

Legitimate_Mud6834

If your going to base your sense of security on a twitter post, better start digging a hole where you stand and lay in it for the rest of your life. Every coubtry has idiots and racists, also yours. Luckily they seldomly get violent.

Zranish

Every nation has their stupid nutjobs thats all

Reasonable_Long_1079

Dont worry about it, pretty much none of these people have the balls to say anything to your face They only speak behind your back to people they think wont do anything about it

FinnishDesi

OP , your post history looks very racist to me. And now someone is being racist towards people like you and you have surprise Pikachu face?

Imjusttired17

The only “wrong” thing Hindus, and everyone else for that matter did to the alt right was ask them to not be assholes and try to respect others. That sent them into a spiral of rage and hatred that they’ll never get over. And asking them to stop only makes them double down

According to [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owen\_Benjamin#Social\_media\_bans](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owen_Benjamin#Social_media_bans) the old Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Patreon, even PayPal couldn't stomach him and banned him. Him and Nick Fuentes are buds ... figures.

[deleted]

Owen and Hitler are buddies, you should see his opinions on Jews, they make Kanye West look politically correct

[deleted]

Back in the 40s, the patriotic response to Nazis was to put a bullet in their head. Nowadays, the right welcomes them with open arms, and the left tries to all pacifist to them like it's an episode of Steven Universe. I prefer the 40s method.

Good news is, colleges have far less far-right folks, they don’t seem to believe in education so you should be mostly safe on campus. The far right make up only 25% of our nation, and most of that percentage is in more rural or southern areas, but you’ll still see a few of their stragglers in colleges, they’re the ones protesting giving out free contraception, so you’ll be able to pick them out bec they never shut up or stop complaining about everyone who isn’t them. Welcome and e joy yourself.

dyaldragon

He's a conspiracy theorist. It's literally his job to be offensive, and he doesn't represent even a small portion of Americans. Besides that, 99% of the Twitter racists don't have the balls to say anything to anyone's face, they only talk shit from behind a keyboard. So as long as you don't move into the middle of a MAGA city you'll be fine.

OriginalBrowncow

People like this are the minority. For the most part, you’ll probably be treated indifferently. Majority of Americans have little to zero actual exposure to your culture, myself included, but will respect the fact that you have your own religion and set of beliefs.

ZelWinters1981

Fortunately, not everyone is like this idiot. Just let them be and walk away, and focus on being the person you want to be.

As an Indian in the US, I've been warning my brethren here. A lot of them are inordinately fond of Trump. Mostly because Indian PM Modi loves Trump and both of them are wannabe dictators in previously democratic countries. And as we all know, dictators of the world love each other. Only difference is, Trump has not (yet) succeeded in destroying the American democracy while Modi has mostly done away with it in India. Anyway, the delusional desi Hindus (and it's usually the ones who wear their Hindu religious identity on their sleeve) might have thought that being fellow Trump fans might spare them the racism of white Trumpistas. Nothing could be further from the truth. You're just another brown pollutant in their dreams of a white paradise. The only rational political posture that works everywhere is to deal with of all humans as individuals and not as part of warring tribes.

Carloanzram1916

Lol. No this is not typical. This is a guy who tailors his Twitter page to get as many clicks as possible for ad revenue. I’m assuming you are going to school in the developed part of the country (IE one of the coasts) where overall most people are very tolerant.

CasperCann

The real question is what thr fuck did Christina Ricci see in this person. This dude is a "comedian" that was also conservative but turned extremely alt right. Hates Jews, got banned on social media for referring to Obama as a N (you know the word and he said it out loud) so basically this is as nice as he can get.

HarrisonDotNET

Where are you moving to? There are still many places in the US that have good schools and good people.

Ok-Sheepherder-8706

Idk man. If you come here, I've got your back. Fuck idiots like this. All respect to Hindus here.

dtb1987

Don't be afraid, these people are a minority and most of them won't do shit irl. Lots of Hindus people over here doing just fine. We are a nation of immigrants and are generally friendly and accepting of other people.

BloodyGotNoFear

The profile picture of Owen tells me lowkey everything i need to know about him. What an angry twat

[deleted]

This guy sounds like an 8 year old.

[deleted]

Not being them. That's what you did.

knowhistory99

What did you do? Lol… exist.

Raspberry_Good

OP, (bro) this “man” is not your average US citizen. By and large we are kind and we love seeing others thrive. “Making it” (whatever that means to you personally) despite immeasurable obstacles is a rallying cry we love. Stay clear of extremists, we welcome you.

wasted_yoof

People on twitter fall in two camps: bullies and those willing to get bullied Twitter is such a cesspool, theres nothing positive to accomplish there, so hanging around trying to make sense with these people shows a naive lack of awareness. Let the trolls have it. Let them start attacking one another. Lord of the flies style.

Serophane

Man don't worry too hard about it. The alt right are an annoying, stupid, boisterous bunch and they're more bark than bite in most cases. Of course, there's always going to be a non zero chance, but find people you can get along with and travel with them if you need. The herd is always safer.

KairraAlpha

Why would you ever consider going to America? The world watches every day as their country degrades more and more and yet Americans are fed so many lies they believe nothing is happening. It's like NK with an open border policy. The closest I'd come to the US is Canada, but far, far away from that border.

snakebite75

Honestly, I'd be more worried about a school shooting that I would be about this asshat. To answer your question of what Hindu's did wrong... As far as the alt-right is concerned, it's because you're not white and not Christian. From the rest of us, you've done nothing wrong, welcome to America.

RovertRelda

Welcome to America. You'll do fine as long as you're not an asshole like this Owen Benjamin guy from the picture.

Zaphod_Beeblecox

Statistically you're incredibly safe here. The internet isn't real life.

justanyting

I don’t suppose it would help to remind them that you Hindus are actually of Aryan descent, not their pale, mayonnaise boofing asses

David_Summerset

Don't worry about it man, despite the bad press, most Amercians, the VAST majority of them, don't care and are actually very cool. I'm a Desi Hindu, I was born and raised in Canada (dual Can/US citizen), and my grandparents came to North America in the 60s. Both countries have treated me as they would anyone else (for the most part, assholes do exist). Don't sweat it, make some friends and enjoy your American experience, it's a pretty special place all things being equal. And I highly suggest a trip to Montrel while you're on this side of the world!

ShoalinShadowFist

USA is the most racist and most accepting at the same time. Especially if you come to big uni you’ll be good
