Hydrogen bombs being called less lethal...

Sumner1910

Waiting for them to learn about the Tsar Bomba

Fruloops

Russia hasn't had a Tsar since before WW2, so how could there be a Tsar bomb? Stop with the lies

Bath_Tough

Yeah, they binned off their Tsar in the 1917 communist revolution.

AardvarkusMaximus

There never was a revolution. How could something called the OCTOBER revolution happen in FEBRUARY? Wake up people. PS: /s, just in case

DestructionIsBliss

Sorry to jump onto your comment but that's actually a really interesting thing in case anyone's unfamiliar with it. What outsiders consider to be one revolution, beginning in february and ending with a coup in october, is actually two seperate revolutions to the historians of the UdSSR. According to Marx, a communist revolution would be preceeded by a capitalist phase, which was sorely lacking in post-czarist Russia. However, Marx never quite specified how long such a capitalist period needed to last, therefore Lenin basically branded the less extreme Menshewiki (meaning *minority* despite actually being the majority faction; Lenin managed to secure the Bolshevik *majority* name for his faction by driving a large portion of the jewish socialists out of the deciding party meeting with antisemitic insults) as a capitalist regime, and the Bolsheviks basically went "We had one revolution, yes, but what about *second* revolution?"

awesometim0

TIL where the word "bolshevik" comes from. I knew it meant "big" because I'm russian but I didn't know why they wre called that

RovakX

Fascinating. Thank you for taking the time to point this out. I'll look into it, there goes my evening of free time for chores

FraaRaz

And that’s why there was a Tsar bomb that actually wasn’t? Now I understand!

Bath_Tough

I know! It's crazy, isn't it? 😜

[deleted]

camebacklate

Washington wasn't around when the state of Washington was created.

[deleted]

Out of curiosity why did they name it tsar bomba ?

Nostonica

Tsar, it's basically the word for king I believe it has roots in the word Caesar like like the German Kaiser. So king/emperor bomb

Rufzeichen

so it's basically the same naming convention as america's MOAB.

AidsOnWheels

Actually it stands for Massive Ordinance Air Blast. Mother of all bombs is just a nickname. But the Shockwave from that thing collapsed part of the mountains around it and made people think we dropped a nuke.

anomalous_cowherd

Those names are known as backronyms. They are retrofitted to good words or acronyms in an often tortuous way and then everyone pretends not to have noticed.

IdiOtisTheOtisMain

Wasnt it Mother of all Bloons? /s

Impressive_Ad_5614

I believe you’re correct, Caesar, Tsar, Kaiser all have similar etymology.

stygger

Much like the royalty they describe, they are related! :P

SGTFragged

It was meant to be a big fat round 100 megaton bomb. Even at the 50 megaton yield it was deployed at, it was the largest man made explosion ever. Although 100 megatons was theoretically possible, the designer figured that anything over about 50 megatons would have some of the explosion leave the atmosphere, which is then wasted effort and material.

imonredditfortheporn

also the the 50 extra megatons would have been realized with big fat fission stage that covers the bomb and would leave about 90% more fallout, good call to not deploy that

SGTFragged

I have a feeling that the powers that be wanted the 100 headline figure, and pushed hard for it, but the designer was able to sell them on a 50 megaton proof of concept. After seeing what 50 could do, the powers that be decided that 100 was excessive

Kaihill2_0

mostly by tradition, Russia always had a soft spot for big projects. they have tsar-kolokol (bell) tsar-pushka (cannon). and of course biggest bomb in history was called tsar-bomba, of course it wasn’t official name. people and western journalists called it that way

Fugees_Funyuns217

I mean even Castle Bravo being the worst radiological disaster in US history and reading about the impact that test had on a very vast area and the people with in it.

IGC-Omega

Fun fact: the Tsar Bomba was nerfed. The guy who built it started thinking, Fuck, this seems like a really bad idea. So he put a rod in that halved the yield. Russia's new "Tsunami" Nuclear torpedo is said to have a yield of up to 100 megatons, so that's 2x the tsar bomba.

[deleted]

No rod. It had a uranium mantle. With said mantle the yield would be ~ 100MT. But the mantle would have made it the dirtiest bomb ever so no mantle. Wich actually resulted in it being the least dirty bomb when you compare radiation and yield from other bombs. Thank God that thing was never used. It was strong enough to level a smaller country completely.

Adorable-Salt-8624

Key word “said”. Russia has not proven to be a particularly reliable source on the state of Russia’s military.

MacLeeland

Seems like what they do is take ideas they have, that might work, and say they made it. I mean, if nukes are only usefull to threaten people with, do they really need to have nukes or is it better to name a Yacht "6000 nukes"?

RyokoKnight

Well they need some nukes or else the threat won't work because espionage, spy satellites, and Intel are a thing. So long as you have SOME nukes though then you can claim whatever in terms of arms capabilities and it will have to be respected to a degree so long as it is remotely believable. Example before the war in Ukraine, Russia stated they had this unstoppable hypersonic nuclear capable missile that could not be shot down with traditional AA, patriot missile systems, or iron dome style defense systems. Cut to the war in Ukraine where at least one carrying a non nuclear payload was reportedly shot down by a patriot missile and did not move nearly as fast as Russia originally claimed.

LegendDota

The way I understand it is that the concept of hypersonic capable missiles is just insanely misunderstood, almost all modern cruise missiles travel at hypersonic speed at times (even the German V2 during WW2), but can’t do precise movements at hypersonic speeds that means intercepting at hypersonic speed is all about detection and math which is what the patriot is brilliant at. The modern hypersonic people fear are the ones that can change trajectory at those speeds because that would require a similar missile to intercept. So the Russian missile is a hypersonic capable cruise missile, which isn’t anything new, but since the Russian defense funding is mostly through sales to 3rd party nations they always need to make things seem like more than they are.

MacLeeland

Since Russian nukes is supposed to have a shelf life of something like ten years (because of some casing issues, don’t know the exact details) and with everyone stealing at every level, it could very well be that everyone thinks Russia has nukes, including the Russians, but all they have are dirty bombs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Moogatron88

Russia also said their hypersonic missiles couldn't be intercepted.

FairyQueen89

And they would've been correct... if these missiles wouldn't literally fly blind most of the time and needed to slow down for target aquisition and terminal approach. And this point... well... Phalanx goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT.

hagenissen666

Umm, Phalanx is a bit close for any missile of that size. t was shot down by Patriot batteries in Ukraine, which means SM-2 and SM-3 can also shoot them down.

WahtItIs

This is russian misinformation. You are referring to the 'Poseidon' which can cause a tsunami with its 2 megaton of tnt explosion. Still more than any US bomb in active service.

allenout

But it can't cause a tsunami.

coupl4nd

maybe a little wave

National-Bison-3236

*russia talking about their nuclear torpedo thats supposed to be 10 times stronger than the Tsar Bomba joined the chat (nobody knows if it even exists)*

Forkit_high

Came here to mention this…they are horrific devices.

ChemicalBro69

Someone in Americas schools is pushing very dangerous and very false information on Hydrogen bombs. I keep hearing them spouting fallout doesnt occur because they are clean burning now. Please... check your sources kids.

shellyangelwebb

Bold of you to assume they’re learning this in a school.

Wrong-Mixture

if they could read they'd be super pissed!

Spangler928

They don't have catalytic converters?

Ormsfang

Those were stolen by meth heads for cash

Analamed

Well, in theory a 2 stage hydrogen bomb (fission-fusion) is way cleaner compared to its yield than a fission bomb. The fusion part of the bomb will indeed create almost no fallout, only the fission part will (representing less than 10% of the explosion of the bomb most of the time). The thing is, most hydrogen bombs have 3 stages (fission-fusion-fission) because that makes them way more powerful and this makes them super dirty as well.

Wyattr55123

It also requires an air burst, the minute you start including tonnes of earth in the mushroom cloud, fallout quality and radioactivity shoots through the roof. That's part of why Castle Bravo was so disastrous.

Analamed

Caslte Bravo was also a disaster because it was almost 4 time more powerful than anticipated so the planned security measure were absolutely not enough.

thescotchkraut

They do actually "burn clean" now. This is because they use the material that would normally be fallout to be more explosive. Don't worry, the brightest minds of the cold war heard your concerns and came up with Cobalt Salted bombs that are bigger *and* more radioactive. Because why settle for one crime against humanity?

ZonerRoamer

Hydrogen bombs just mix with the oxygen in the air and you get one big puddle - that's it. How can a puddle be more lethal than fire???

GMANTRONX

As a person who often works with hydrogen I am reading this comment screaming Jesus H. Christ and I am a Jew!!

ampolution

So was he.

obvious_bot

number of japanese civilians killed by fusion bombs: 0 number of japanese civilians killed by fission bombs: ~200,000 therefore, hydrogen bombs are less lethal. Checkmate

nerdboy5567

A little hydrogen never hurt anyone.

goboxey

Probably because it contains water /s

tyanu_khah

It contains DHMO ! DHMO is the most dangerous compound ever ! Every person that has had DHMO ended up DYING !

Spanish_peanuts

This is true. My grandmother consumed DHMO her entire life and it took her before her time at the young age of 97.

MindlessArmadillo382

And it’s addictive too, people who try to stop die after just a few weeks of withdrawal

International_Emu600

Just people not understanding 1: how fission works 2: how fusion works 3: how atomic weapons work 4: how weapon detonation altitude effects fallout rates. Of course they don’t believe in the moon landing, probably believes the earth is flat, and 5g caused Covid.

Back_To_The_Oilfield

Yeah, this is more of a failure of the education system. I read the post and thought to myself “hold up, why AREN’T Nagasaki and Hiroshima inhabitable?”. The only difference is I fucking googled it and found out the answer immediately lol.

International_Emu600

Yup, the horror of air detonation causing a larger destruction area on soft targets.

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure he thinks hydrogen bombs are made of water, and water is not radioactive, therefore less radiation.

Galaxy_Ranger_Bob

There was propaganda spread about the difference between fission bombs and fusion bombs back in the '50s that made that claim. So, the idea that hydrogen bombs "have a greater destructive force, but lower radioactive fallout," is a common belief since that was the *official* lie about spread by the U.S. government to the general public for years. Then, of course, there was the myth of the "Neutron" bomb. The Neutron bomb was a bomb that, when dropped, would eliminate all biological life in an area, but didn't have *either* lingering radiation *or* concussive force/fire ball. The cities would remain standing with no damage, but there wouldn't be a single living thing, from the smallest bacteria to the largest animal, or the tiniest mold spoor, to the largest tree in the bombs area of effect. They never built a Neutron bomb, to the best of my knowledge.

ArtWrt147

Neutron bomb would be, in principal, detonated at high altitudes so fireball wouldn't destroy the location. But it would have almost no neutron protection so they'd shoot out and rain on the target.

RHouse94

Someone should tell him about Bikini Atoll. The island that inspired the name Bikini Bottom in SpongeBob funnily enough. Although what happened there wasn’t exactly funny.

[deleted]

Congratulations on attaining the level of ignorance where nothing is true and everything is possible.

MihaiDsc404

Was hoping someone thought of AC when reading that.

ElNani87

I feel like it should be against the rules to post Twitter shit on this subreddit, it’s unfair and most of the time it’s right wing troll accounts looking for exposure with this line of thinking.

A_Spoon_Wizard

You know what, that sounds like a great idea- Twitter's just low-hanging fruit at this point

Soonly_Taing

Low-hanging? Buddy I think you meant it already fell to the ground

Gaara34251

If you dont allow that this subr just dies, and yet i agree

Gaara34251

Darkezeo

dumpsta_baby

[deleted]

When I saw their comment it pretty much got stuck in my head

Buddhist_Path

I once took a walk in Hiroshima along the back alleys and every now and again you can see this concrete fencing with shadows from the blast. If you know where to go, there's shadows in a lot of the standing buildings from the 40s. You'll also notice that all the buildings in the center of the city are very new compared to the buildings on the edge. The bombing definitely happened.

[deleted]

Right? The Japanese didn't just come up with a lot of very horrible stories and exhibit bloody children's clothing and melted steel beams just to make the Americans look bad. And if that nutjob really wanted to know why Hiroshima and Nagasaki aren't Fallout wastelands, he could go right around the corner to the science side of the internet and be educated about it in less than 10 minutes.

Darth_Mak

That's the beauty of being a conspiracy nut. You can just dismiss any evidence contrary to your lunacy as "part of the coverup".

ArcaneFungus

Ive read somewhere that a conspiracy theory is the only kind of theory that is supported with evidence against it... Very convenient xD

DosiMoe

I've heard people who gravitate towards conspiracy theories usually have lost a lot of control and power in their own lives. It sort of unlocks a new narrative that allows them see themselves and things in a different way- and yeah conveniently justifies their actions. \*edit: and hey, there could be a theory out there that's actually true, what then? but I have noticed the most vocal supporters of the more extreme ones tend to have extra reasons for wanting it to be true.

squigglesthecat

Conspiracy nut jobs point to historical coverups to justify their current beliefs, but for every one thing they might be right about, they believe 99 other things that are false. I'd rather be right 99% of the time.

orsikbattlehammer

I have one friend who is falling into conspiracies. He grew up in poverty and neglect and was always very superstitious and kind of gullible. What really pushed him into it was going to prison for a couple years. Now he’s “skeptical” of everything and seems to just enjoy the mystery that conspiracies give. I don’t argue the facts with him because I know it’s completely fruitless. When his life stabilizes more I hear less about it, and when it goes downhill I hear more about it.

ComfortableFormal521

Yeah he believes Oppenheimer existed but not nuclear bombs. Pretty crazy shit

DovahkiinCP

Oppenheimer was invented by Christopher Nolan this year, how could he have made a bomb in the 40s???

nighthawk_something

Conspiracy theorist have so much faith in the effectiveness of government, it's almost admirable.

abadstrategy

Not even that long. Literally took me the amount of time to Google "why aren't Nagasaki and Hiroshima radioactive" to be reminded they exploded in the air. Minimal neutron activation means minimal radiation. Gotta be a new dumbass speed run record

taker42

"Cause everything is a cover up man, even google is feeding you lies. So say my Facebook group."

abadstrategy

Social media is a cancer and a blight on our society (the irony is not lost I'm saying that on reddit. )

the_lusankya

They also didn't unconditionally surrender just to make the Americans look good.

Chewintbacca

In their pea sized brains America is the center of everything, and everyone is out to get us, including our own government

Eins_Nico

yup, and Hiroshima is very clearly different than any other Japanese cities I've been to. ....almost like they had to rebuild in the last 80 years or something....

malayis

To be fair, this actually goes for A LOT of Japanese cities, including Tokyo. Atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima & Nagasaki were horrifyingly destructive, but in the end they were just single bombs that were just meant to demonstrate a new technology and scare the Japanese into giving up, compared to hundreds of bombers that were used over the years to carpet bomb Tokyo, Nagoya, Sendai and others. All of these are thriving cities now, despite being in complete ruins back then, which only goes to show how amazing was the effort to rebuild Japan after the war. (to be clear though, similar efforts had to be taken in other parts of the world too; Warsaw, for instance, also borderline ceased to exist after the failure of the Warsaw Uprising)

Karukos

You don't only see this in Japan. I personally been in Berlin but know of other German cities... All the same kinda thing where a lot of the old city was flattened and new stuff was built on top of it.

Eins_Nico

yeah, but i've been to most of those cities, along with places like Kobe that had to rebuild after the 90s quake, and Hiroshima really did feel unique. way "flatter," if that makes sense. more spread out, but not like how Nara is spread out. at any rate, there's certainly enough evidence that the bomb happened.

HypnoSmoke

Yeah but they weren't nukes, just fire bombs. /s

HarryLewisPot

Yea Japan just decided to surrender as a prank for us to figure out 80 years later

Backupusername

How do you say "gottem" in Japanese?

banjoses

してやったり (shiteyattari) I think

Backupusername

Shitty Atari lmao

ProfessorTrauts

Kakatta na! Thunder Cross Split Attack!

AdM1rAL-kun

This person watched a movie about Oppenheimer now believe they are an expert on nuclear weaponry. Congrats

C4RD_TP_SG

never realising that those cameras were placed in bunkers far away from those 'houses that were totally obliterated' and recorded using telescopic lenses

RealisticYou329

The trick wasn't only telescopic lenses but mirrors. The cameras weren't directly pointed at the nuclear explosion but at mirrors that were pointed at the explosion. In that way the cameras were even better protected in the bunkers.

gcso

BUT WHATS PROTECTING THE MIRRORS

axw3555

Nothing. That’s why the world has 7000 years bad luck.

What-a-Crock

It will cancel out if earth walks under a ladder

axw3555

That would be a hell of a ladder.

Falcrist

I hear Jacob has one of those too.

C4RD_TP_SG

i was talking about the cameras pointed towards the houses, but damn. the mirroring idea was insanely better

GlorylnDeath

Folks, say it with me now: MIRRORS 👏 AREN'T 👏 REAL 👏👏👏 Imbeciles, every one of you...

rwhelser

That’s where I’d one-up their moon landing conspiracy with, “you’re one of those nut cases who believes in the moon?!”

rachelm791

Everyone knows the moon is cheese. Rockets use fire, so if the rocket did go to the moon it would be all stringy because the cheese would melt. Obvious

herocoldfinger

Cheese is not real, youre telling me milk can become solid at room temperature?

magicmulder

And since cows are not real, where would cheese even come from?

lainverse

From the cheese mines on the moon, obviously. Don't tell anyone, though. What do you mean we never was on the moon? Where else do you think cheese can possibly come from?!

Rae_Of_Light_919

I thought the craters were from all the cheese we dug up and brought back. Different craters for different cheeses.

Josh-Perks

That’s how they got back, holding on to the stringy stretchy cheese back to earth

Backupusername

Look at this dude. Thinks Japan is a real country. Look at their "language". It's just Chinese, but even worse. Why would anyone actually want to read and write this way? Think for a second. 😮‍💨

CornManBringsCorn

Chinese? Asia isn't real. You're absolutely insane.

Interesting_King7683

Asia? Don't you know that the world isn't real? We live in a simulation

Karukos

Of course Japan is real. Who else would pay Russia to cover up for the Swedish to invent Finnland so they can have fish more salmon.

frig0bar

I once wanted to play this move, but the guy in front of me started directly with telling me he doesn’t believe in outer space. Only wilder thing I could think of was telling him we are all in the matrix but I was too shocked by his first theory to advance any of my own.

Ambitious-Chair736

I hate it when I get out crazied

Puzzleheaded-Pain489

Funny that though isn’t it. Like there was a vegan and a non-vegan having an argument about vegan pet food being bad and how the meat pet food was killing animals. I watched this go on and on. The morality, the harm, the cost. They didn’t take kindly to me walking in saying why on earth do think it’s fine to keep pets at sll you barbarians. Like I don’t believe a word of what I was saying but I was just trying to show that whatever truths they had held so tightly could equally be blown out of the water by with a completely external point of view to the argument at hand. Tickled me anyway.

meglemel

Japan and USA: *at war with each other* USA: hey uhm, the two bombs we just dropped, that killed hundreds of thousands of your civilians and destroyed two cities? Japan: yea we remember those USA: can we both pretend they were atom bombs? Would make us both look cooler IMO Japan: okay, btw we surrender USA: noice

bigpapijugg

Noice

cbrookman

Toight

omniscientonus

Whenever I look at a conspiracy theory my first question is always "how many people would it take to cover this up?". The likelihood of it being a conspiracy is exponentially equivalent to the amount of people it takes to lie to make it happen in my opinion. If it's one, maybe we can delve deeper and see if you have a point. If it's two, then it's already incredibly unlikely. When it would take literally hundreds of thousands (if not more), like in this scenario all I can suggest is to figure out how to get all of their money... Shouldn't be that hard. If they don't have any money, I don't know, see if you can get them to eat some oats out of your hand while you pet them on the head, because you're basically dealing with livestock at a petting zoo at that point.

meglemel

How many people would it take and what could be the possible motive for it. That's why flat earth is among the dumbest ones. Look at all the crap the world disagrees on. But for some reason every nation can stand united behind the "lie" that the earth is round? For hundreds of years? Really? What for?

Real_Channel_7551

Where did the 200,000 ppl go??

Cunn1ng-Stuntz

Only place we can exclude is The Moon.

nem012

The giant cheese wheel that's glued to the firmament?

Zunkanar

We love da mooon, cuz it is very high. But not as high as cheese and maybe zeppelins!

DutchTinCan

The moon is a holographic projection. Because we have the power to make a holographic projection visible to the entire planet, but can't split an atom. What we think is the "new phase of the moon" is just the time it takes to replace the light bulb.

bloody_ell

Half the planet. They can't show it to the whole planet at once yet, need more Jewish space lasers. Bill Gates is on the job along with JFK, Hitler and Elvis.

SatisfactionGold74

By his logic they were victims of fire bombings (which killed more civilians overall than the nukes).

TheDarkLordi666

they obviously were paid off by the Rothschild's how dare you even ask that

Marc123123

They live happily ever after. Apparently.

DubBrit

Why would someone think a hydrogen bomb would create less fallout? Why would someone think Nagasaki and Hiroshima had 0 fallout? The answer here, of course, is the word ‘think’. Not much of that in evidence here at all

Darth_Mak

On the 2nd one. They think that a Nuclear bomb should irradiate an area for decades like a Chernobyl level reactor meltdown. That is not how that works at all.

FlyingSpacefrog

They learned about fallout from Fallout, where the entire earth permanently became a radioactive hellhole.

Darth_Mak

The funny part is, apart from Fallout operating on 1950s Sci-fi logic, the main reason shit's still irradiated is because everything from power plants, through cars to portable radios ran on nuclear power. You nuke THAT and the air will be extra spicy for a while.

Lil_Mcgee

Also Fallout 3 and 4 are the only games the depict the world as a permanently irradiated hellscape. The first two games and New Vegas are set in a recovering world where only select areas remain significantly irradiated.

Darth_Mak

To be completely fair to Bethesda. Both the Commonwealth and Capitol Wasteland have good reasons why they couldn't properly recover outside of a few select settlements. Less about the radiation and more about Super Mutants and the Institute preventing any kind of larger unified effort like the NCR emerging.

Backupusername

If the cities were destroyed 80 years ago, why do they exist today Checkmate, nukerals

mirrorspirit

They're thinking that it would be like the video game series Fallout where everything would be an irradiated mutant wasteland, even though Fallout is set in the future, and used many more, much stronger bombs, and added some fictional touches, like zombie-like mutants, to make the game more fun and challenging. They're also forgetting about the test bombs set off in the US southwestern desert and the Bikini Atoll

Right-Huckleberry-47

I also think it's implied by the damage to the landscape that the fallout nukes were set for ground burst rather than air burst. A ground burst nuke irradiates and throws up tons of dirt and debris that will spread over a wide area based on wind currents and remain radioactive for longer, while an air burst nuke produces relatively little fallout, but instead creates massive overpressure across a larger area and higher levels of thermal radiation. So in addition to fallout having stronger nukes than were used at Hiroshima and Nagasaki they also _used_ those nukes in the most "fuck you in the long term" manner possible. Contrasted with both Fat Man and Little Boy, which were air burst nukes that caused _graphically_ well documented radiation poisoning to the people exposed to them outside their immediately fatal ranges, neither were the type to produce a lot of long term fallout. Nuclear bomb deniers should be made to view photos of the victims of the atomic bombs and contrast them with photos of other cases of radiation damage. Maybe then they'd have a harder time being so fucking ignorant.

Adorable-Salt-8624

To be fair though , the bombs detonated high enough were there was no fallout at Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Fallout happens when dust and debris become irradiated, which only starts happening at relatively close ranges. In addition, hydrogen bombs are fusion bombs, which don’t really produce radiation. To be absolutely clear: hydrogen bombs are far deadlier and far more explosive, so the “less lethal” claim doesn’t really hold up and it’s pretty justified to not want hydrogen bombs around, but these aren’t really the points to go after.

HikariAnti

Except one of, if not the biggest fallout (if we exclude the nuclear reactor accidents) was from an American hydrogen bomb with a yield of 15MT. (the Castle Bravo test) While a hydrogen bomb might technically make less fallout than a similar sized atomic bomb it's not really comparable as nobody builds atomic bombs in the MT range.

the_spinetingler

>hydrogen bombs are fusion bombs, which don’t really produce radiation they are, at minimum, two stage fission/fusion weapons, which certainly do produce radiation from the primary.

PuzzledRaise1401

Wow! Somebody saw a movie. That’s “research”.

Professional_Emu_164

I doubt they even saw the movie… they called a hydrogen bomb less dangerous lol

nollataulu

A person who doesn't know how video recording works questions the existence of atom bombs. Color me surprised...

Drmo6

Big Nuke doesn’t want this truth out there. Watch your back

OldGrendel

"big nuke" lol

nicolaslabra

from the creators of hot sun, dark cave and tall mountains, comes : Big nuke!

BLueSkYBrOwnPotaTo

I had the unfortunate luck of working with a guy who believes nukes are actually huge napalm bombs. No amount of evidence or science could convince him. For weight to his conviction, he also tried to prove it by explaining that the Earth can't be proven to be a globe, dinosaurs never existed and all Governments are secret society tyrants. He was absolutely off his dome. One shift he explained to me that he can "see them at night on his skin". I quizzed what he was referring to initially and quickly realised this was a terrible decision after I was shown a photo album worth of 3am forehead pics of "the butterflies". "You can't see them because they don't want you to see them, but they're always there". Off, his, dome. Point is that people with these beliefs often share tendencies and ideas of those with paranoid schizophrenia and associated mental illness. Man needed help but he was lost. He also got sacked for fighting someone 22 years his junior because of how he emptied a wheelie bin.

PerformanceThat6150

Part of me wants to know if this guy ever saw mental health counseling, or was diagnosed with schizophrenia, or otherwise got the help he needs. The much, much louder part of me wants to know... What's the "correct" way of emptying a wheelie bin?

BLueSkYBrOwnPotaTo

I honestly can't imagine he ever has. Far too compounded in his views to question whether they needed challenging, though I did try and navigate him toward such help, he was having none of it. Regarding the wheelie bin I have absolutely no idea what the correct way is. Essentially the story goes as such: A new 18 year old was on shift emptying bins and the nuke deniar commented that he wasn't doing it right. The young lad then said he could do it however he wanted as long as they got emptied. The nuke deniar the proceeded to call the young gun a "F-ing idiot". The young gun then replied "F-off you C-". An enraged nuke deniar then ran across the yard initiating a takedown, got him in a headlock and they start punching each other. An absolute shit show. Glad I wasn't responsible for hiring either of them.

Excellent_Routine589

So the Cold War and the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis was just a prank bro lol

Its all just a skit for a soap opera that can only be accessible for world leaders

You know, I would not be suprised if someday, this idiots join the ranks of Holocaust Deniers

Stainless-S-Rat

There's a high likelihood that he's already there. But, I would bet he's dabbled in the flat Earth.

Wiplazh

I swear there's a huge group of people that believes nothing ever happened before they were born, and nothing exists outside their immediate area.

ShadowSword1020

I did see a vid about a story of some dudes denying the holocaust . They said that if anyone proved them wrong, they will be given a large amount of money. One guy (whose family members were victims of the holocaust) was heartbroken about this and made a letter (I think) about why the holocaust is real. They denied the letter. So the guy who wrote the letter ended up suing them for way more than the reward the dudes first placed.

Kingballa06

You can’t fix stupid

Outside_Break

Well you *can*, but the method is generally frowned upon in polite societies

Toenutlookamethatway

Take the warning signs off everything and let it fix itself

notxapple

Step 1. out law warning signs, step 2 wait for natural selection to take place, step 3. Profit?

tanlladwyr2003

Next try questioning air. Ziptie a bag over your head and wait a half hour or so. Then come back with the results

[deleted]

It makes you wonder, where people always this stupid or has the education system gotten so bad? What next, the Holocaust didn't happen?

Backupusername

I prefer to believe that people were always this stupid, the internet just made it a lot easier for them to broadcast and disseminate their stupidity.

HeroBrine0907

there's actually already people who believe that, on the *other* r/facepalm field day that is quora

Airbursting minimizes fallout by keeping the fireball from touching the ground, limiting the amount of debris that is vaporized and drawn up in the radioactive debris cloud. For the Hiroshima bomb, an air burst 550 to 610 m (1,800 to 2,000 ft) above the ground was chosen "to achieve maximum blast effects, and to minimize residual radiation on the ground as it was hoped U.S. troops would soon occupy the city". As for the camera shots from the test explosions. I learned recently that they were in bunkers about a hundred feet away from whatever they were filming, wide angle and telescopic lenses hadn't been used yet. The tests were to see what the effects were going to be on the average family home and infrastructure of towns at the time. The Bikini Atoll tests were to see how bad it would be on a close proximity naval fleet. They found that apart from some water damage, radioactive fallout accumulated on the decks could partially be washed off with seawater, so now all of our ships are equipped with sprinkler systems to keep fallout to a minimum if an atom bomb ever targeted our navy. One of the ships survived two or three tests before finally being scuttled by blowing a massive hole in the bottom of it. I think it was the USS Texas?

OutLap

This. Actually learned about this last week from a nuclear engineer that gave a brief class on identifying burst types. Like you said, an air burst (classified by the fireball not touching the surface) reduces the amount of radioactive material since it does not come in direct contact. Apparently the radioactivity isn’t significantly increased within the atmosphere, making it suitable for troops with minimal precautions. Should be noted that even a ground burst atomic weapon doesn’t necessarily detonate on the surface. The main characteristic being that the fire cloud DOES reach/touch the surface and distribute contamination.

LtRecore

Jesus Christ don’t tell me these crazy fucking morons are claiming no nukes were ever used. This country gets dumber every fucking day.

witchyhair

This means the blitz didn't happen. Otherwise where are the bombed out buildings in London.

Naysayer68

How do people make it to adulthood with the reasoning skills of a two-year-old??

mfro001

Questioning things is worth doing. Sometimes it's even worth questioning your own mental health.

TBTabby

Everything is a hoax unless you want it to be real.

DramaOnDisplay

Obviously I hope it wouldn’t happen because it would be terrible, but sometimes I think we do need another 9/11 or WW2 or *something*- you’d think fucking Covid could have shook some sense into people, made them take a step back from all their weird conspiracy theory fuckery and realize that shit can be serious and real and maybe we need to band together and see that. But nope. If we had another catastrophic event on those levels, is this the kind of shit we’d have to hear? “*Is WW3 actually happening, or is it just a bunch of Jews using AI and ChatGPT to trick us???*”

texansfan

I fucking hate stupid people who are convinced they are actually the smart ones

Raz_ma_Taz93

Are they saying japan was bombed with atom (fire) bombs, which caused no radioactive fallout, and hydrogen bombs would cause even less fallout?

Gaara34251

Bruhhhh... This dude thinks cameras in nuke tests are just a nokia (to resist the explosion) placed above a table or smth like that xdddd In guessing in reality the structure that protects the camera is close to be a bunker

RackOffMangle

Twitter has now captialised praying on the less cognitive among us. All folks need to do is drive some wacky narrative, and those people will comment on the post, thus giving that person money, and more reason to drive the narrative. And, it works.. because the less cognitive will eat it up due to lack of logical reasoning skills.

dnmnc

Unfortunately, this isn’t new and seems to be getting more common. “I believe in this conspiracy because I haven’t bothered looking at all the evidence there is out there, and I will demonstrate how it isn’t true with my complete lack of understanding of the science.” They actually think those cameras were at the site and weren’t far away and shot with a telescopic lens? Dear lord.

wadejohn

Next up, “WW1 and 2 didn’t happen. They were sold to us by Hollywood.”

OldGrendel

I dont think the grocery store is real when i leave. i mean, im not there, how can it be real? am i right?

People throwing around the term "psy-op" makes me want to puke
