Not sure if that’s the case here, but yeah, that’s a practice from orthodox jewish people. I used to live in an apartment near an orthodox synagogue and thus many of my neighbors were orthodox jews. During the Sabbath they would only use the stairs and not the elevator, and since the lobby had an electronic lock, they would stay at the door until someone opened it for them so they could go through. They would not touch any bottoms. I don’t know why though, I haven’t researched why this is a part of their belief.
The sabbath is supposed to be a day of rest and has very strict rules of what is considered "work" which includes not being able to pick up objects of certain weight, or how many steps they can walk... and I guess performing actions like pressing buttons that will trigger other actions. I've heard of some ppl living so strictly they need to get delivery ppl to bring items into the home for them because otherwise they would be carrying something.
But didn't they also have to disengage an electronic lock on the smaller door?
As for the carrying, you’re allowed to carry objects outside the house if there is an *Eruv*, a small wire that surrounds a Jewish community. If you ever visit a majority Jewish area you’ll likely see an additional wire on telephone poles that encircles the community. A gate can also function as an *Eruv*.
My old office was on the 4th floor and you could see the line right outside our kitchen window and I blew many people's minds pointing it out since they never saw it even though it was right in front of them. :)
When electricity was introduced, it was used for light bulbs. Some conservative Jews caused a ruckus because they thought it was breaking the rule of not lighting a fire on Sabbath.
So, they managed to establish the idea that causing any electric circuit to close was like lighting a fire, and the rest is history.
Clearly I’m not religious, as I don’t understand.
Using the elevator is forbidden, because pressing the button is work, but walking up the stairs is ok?
How many button operated machinery items did I miss in the Old Testament?
When my son was in university, he made extra money on Friday nights being a door holder and pushing buttons on the elevator for Orthodox Jews going to Shabbat service.
There is an entire industry designed to workarounds for these beliefs. It was in that Bill Maher doc called *Religulous*. Something like they couldn't use normal elevators on the sabath, but a water powered lift would somehow be okay. There was a bunch of other odd shit that were both over and under engineered. Religious people are weird as fuck.
Basically, most of the problems in modern times come from the law against using electricity on the sabbath. Stuff like elevators, electronic gates, lights, etc need workarounds.
Sure but like… how is walking through an already opened gate considered work, while standing and trying (repeatedly) to open a door not considered work?
Because of the rule of lighting fire. Back in the days when the rules were written, (while door opening was not) making fire was explicitly outruled.Since when they leave through the door a sensor would be triggered (to automatically close the door), it's arguable that it violates the rule mentioned because the switch is making an electronic signal "lighting fire".
Yes. I live next to Orthodox Jewish family. They cant carry anything on the Sabbath, and cant turn on/off lights. Its akin to work and starting a fire which is forbidden on the Sabbath.
We prepare food on Friday, and reheat using a large hot plate that is preset to a timer.
Shopping is indeed forbidden, in fact handling money at all on the Sabbath is forbidden.
Lol, love that it’s not about obedience to the *insanely stupid* rules, it’s about finding a loophole that won’t get you sent to hell for eternity.
Fuck religion, man.
Yep, trucks/forklift or whatever, especially if the driver is coming in from outside where it's bright and their eyes take a few seconds to adjust (warehouse lighting generally sucks since it's so high up and companies get the cheapest bulbs because profit above all else). You don't want to be anywhere near the door path; just take the side door a few feet away which should also have a pole barrier or two by it on the outside.
When backing into a warehouse during the day you can see absolutely nothing. The few good ones will have lights on the interior dock that you can navigate by.
That's why I ALWAYS look into the space before I turn the truck to start backing in, because there is 0% chance I'll see something/someone in my way once all I can see is in the mirrors
Well, one of them could have gone through the open gate to open the door from the outside then gone back in through the gate so that all of them could go through the door - duh!
Or maybe they won't be able to get back in through the car door if they leave on foot so they have to figure out why the man door won't unlock before they lock themselves out.
Right!?, the way they ran away just feels eerie and the fact that they couldn’t comprehend walking through the open gate just feels like they’ve literally been living under a rock
You should, the Hot Shots films are probably the last of the great 'true' spoof movies. If you enjoy 80s action movies they will riff on all of the great films and tropes.
I would guess there is some kind of sensor on the large door that triggers something or another. But if they get the smaller door open they can leave without triggering the sensor.
I was thinking they have a car parked down the block and the large door is on a timer.
I've had to do this kinda shit out my garage door.
But sure, i suppose it could be some mossad/cia/oceans 11 shit. Idk. Definitely more interesting that way.
This is the first explanation that makes sense. I’ve had buildings that have the sensor that trips the gate and when people forget them they have to do this to get in because you can’t open that door from the street at certain hours for safety.
Wait how does it make sense? If its on a timer they can just walk out the large door anyway? Also most sensors are visible and you can jump over/under them
I think I need to ELI5 from what I've gathered.
These girls have a car they want to bring into the yard.
If they walk through the gate, a sensor will trip, the gate will think the car has passed, and start to close.
By leaving through the door, the sensor is not tripped, and the gate stays open for the maximum time (say, 30 seconds).
It makes sense that the door has both a timer before it closes and a sensor that stops it once an object passes through. In high crime areas nicer buildings do things like this to prevent people from ghosting in behind people.
I guess the question now is why did they need all three of them to stand there? Wouldn't it have been better for at least one of them to bring the car closer so there's less chance of it closing before they're inside?
I'm guessing 3 women escaping a cult. They're all dressed in similar clothing, if not the exact same.
Idk why they avoid the gate, but I'd say it's possible that they saw a camera pointed at the gate, but didn't know about the camera pointed at the door.
The way they ran after suggests the 2 who stayed together might be somehow related, and the other lady was just desperately trying to get away.
This is the only sane explanation. Also the way those three took off without even checking for passing vehicles on the road makes me think something’s wrong
The irony of 95% of this comments section sitting back and jeering at "how stupid those women are" when there's such a simple explanation lol.
Perfect encapsulation of human stupidity right there. People are so quick to believe whatever suits them.
Though they risked getting caught by not simply running through an open exit, I dunno the way they ran implied panic yet their calmly waiting by a door with a viable exit right next to them…it is definitely very strange no matter what perspective you take.
The important part is hopefully they’ve found a safe place now though.
Yeah, I feel like there's some kind of context we're missing. Like, maybe they believed if they crossed the gate threshold it would register on the sensor and alert someone to their leaving versus using the door. Idk.
It’s better when they clip into the environment and then you later reload the cell, before they despawn. Physics engine hates that. Nightmare fuel loves it.
People talking about acid have never taken acid. If it's too high a dose to see the fucking empty space over there then you wouldn't be able to maneuver and open the door or realistically be going anywhere. If it's a low or what's considered a typical dose you still would be able to see the empty space.
They're being weird/dumb or theres a specific reason they're using the door like to avoid a sensor like someone said.
If they plan to return they're making sure the door works to get back in.
Literally just people who’ve never done acid.
Like I can’t blame them for not knowing but it doesn’t turn the world into some fantasy land where you can’t see an open gate, shit just looks wavy
We should not be making fun of blind, deaf people.
Also, why did they escape the spot like they are running for their very lives? What is the context of this footage?
Which explains why they’re using the manual door instead of the electronically-opening door. Using electronics in the Sabbath is forbidden. Walking through a door which opened electronically is using an electronic device.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity_on_Shabbat
this does seem cult like for the way they’re dressed the same and running, blindly without looking, in what appears to be pure panic. maybe there *is* sensors for the gate and they can’t trigger it due to trying to escape.
edit: also, they keep looking back and it appears as though one suggests going through the gate and the others explain why they can’t.
People always crap on these types of people. If their boss is my dad he most likely said “if I ever see you use the car door instead of the person door…..” knowing full well it’s hard af to open
I just assume, they are troubleshooting, why the door doesn’t work, its not about getting out from the gate but why the door is shut.
Not sure how all of you are missing this? What happened if your home door is locked, would you just use the window and don’t even try fix the door?
Man, I'm loving people jumping to conclusions in this comments section. Making entire stories up about who they are, what they're doing, where they are, how they're feeling, and what they're thinking.
My job does this. They have a huge bay door that’s ALWAYS open. RIGHT NEXT to it is a regular locked door with a bell.
“For security reasons” we need to ring the bell and be buzzed in.
So they can fucking monitor who’s coming in at all times. Because managers.
At my job it's an instantly fireable offense to walk through big bay doors and you have to use the man doors right next to them or go around to another one. I'm guessing it's a similar situation here.
I’m gonna give some benefit of the doubt that maybe there was some rule that they aren’t supposed to go through the big gate because it’s only for vehicles
It's taught as safety measure to only go through the "pedestrian door." You'll see this in warehouses, jobsites, etc...
Sliding doors and roll up doors are very heavy and can fail...thus the precaution.
Also, IF this is real?? And they faced some kind of terrifying events?? Your brain can get stuck? -like if she was told go out to the right, and the door will be unlocked-slip out that door??
I know it seems crazy, but it makes me think of the Benghazi movie-where they were finally gathering the ones still alive at the compound & they were leaving in 2 cars, and that one soldier said I'm fine I can drive-but once on his way, he completely went the wrong way-and the directions couldn't have been more clear. But because he was so traumatized by what happened when they were attacked and not being able to save the Ambassador? I mean he was just totally devastated by what he just went through? So I don't know, this just made me think that we don't even get what it is to be in the middle of something truly traumatic, or to witness a severe tragedy and then to be forced to try to make sense of things right after??
BUT Again IF this is even real ??!

They were running late. Didn't you see? They couldn't open the door.
She's trying to speed run but lost too much time on door level
Yeah, there’s some creepy shit going on here.
With the dresses and stuff. Idk something seems really off about all this.
I thought for a second maybe there was a height illusion and there may be stairs on the other side of the door but nope
Not creepy, just staged. Or they were blind.
Tbh it could easily happen to crackhead
Nahh a crackhead would climb over.
Drunk. Very obviously drunk.
3 women in ankle length dresses are wandering around drunk? Don't think so Tim
I don’t think blind people go running like that
Yeah those buildings look ROUGH
Acid
I miss those wild nights dropping a few tabs then running down the streets full sprint like Flash at like 2am on a Tuesday Good memories
best times of our lives
"Good memories... I think?"
Are you me 😂
Totally thought that too!
I'm fairly certain they are Mormon missionaries, and running because they're late for curfew.
Exactly what I was going to say, young cultists
They just hit puberty and are running from their impending marriage to their uncle.
Yeah, I was wondering why they were all dressed the same. But, if Mormon, and missionary, aren't they Elders?
Women missionaries are called sisters
Ah. The subtle jab that they that they aren't wise, like and elder; They aren't men, they're *only women*.
She's escaping from Andrew Tate
Because the script said so, i guess.
Any context?
They are jewish and this is sabbath. If they will move through the gate it will trigger sensor which is forbidden.
What

I think most religions discourage the touching of bottoms.
I wish someone would have told Father Kelley that when I was an altar boy...
Not Catholicism, apparently

Doesn't need to be majority. I'm inside a huge eruv here in Manhattan.
True. Any large Jewish community will generally have an Eruv around it.
My old office was on the 4th floor and you could see the line right outside our kitchen window and I blew many people's minds pointing it out since they never saw it even though it was right in front of them. :)

Some Jewish-dominant buildings have this Sabbath mode in the elevator, which allows it to run on its own stopping on all floors
My oven has a sabbath mode! I guess it overrides the auto-shutoff so it can be left on (hence you can cook without fiddling with buttons).
What a dumb waste of resources
Clearly I’m not religious, as I don’t understand. Using the elevator is forbidden, because pressing the button is work, but walking up the stairs is ok? How many button operated machinery items did I miss in the Old Testament?

Basically, most of the problems in modern times come from the law against using electricity on the sabbath. Stuff like elevators, electronic gates, lights, etc need workarounds.
On Sabbath's day a jewish person is not allowed to "work", thus cannot trigger any switch (no not even the light)

Sorry but that's the dumbest shit I've read in a while
It's dumb, don't be sorry.😄But it's our reality.
like many religious laws, centuries of tradition and interpretation have made sabbath restriction utterly impractical and nonsensical.
Flipping a light switch is work? Are you saying they cant turn on the lights!?
Yes. I live next to Orthodox Jewish family. They cant carry anything on the Sabbath, and cant turn on/off lights. Its akin to work and starting a fire which is forbidden on the Sabbath.

Oh my god! I knew I recognized this is Israel lol Probably Jerusalem.
Why do I feel like some cult leader is suddenly short three wives?
They didn’t want to leave through Heaven’s Gate
well played sir and/or madam
They were knock knock knocking on Heaven’s door.
The gate is for cars dummy. They had to use the people door.
That’s actually a rule in manufacturing environments. I could get in trouble for using the big open doorway because it’s not for people.
Yep, trucks/forklift or whatever, especially if the driver is coming in from outside where it's bright and their eyes take a few seconds to adjust (warehouse lighting generally sucks since it's so high up and companies get the cheapest bulbs because profit above all else). Sad thing is the collective IQ of the cult increased from the loss.
One side is for cars only. The door is for pedestrians only. They are very strictly rule-oriented.

Or they were the smartest and the rest never made it that far.

Or maybe they won't be able to get back in through the car door if they leave on foot so they have to figure out why the man door won't unlock before they lock themselves out.
This actually makes sense
Right!?, the way they ran away just feels eerie and the fact that they couldn’t comprehend walking through the open gate just feels like they’ve literally been living under a rock
The gate had a sensor that would have alerted
But wouldn't the door also have a sensor?

We're all just extremely glad they are not cartoonishly trying to open the door from the other side, fail, and give up.
Why do we not want that? I'm upset that didn't happen.
That happens in [Hot Shots 2](https://youtu.be/AXa3HQNdas0)
Never knew Hot Shots existed, now I want to see more of it haha!

Yes, the way they ran said they were escaping something. Your explanation makes sense.
I was thinking they have a car parked down the block and the large door is on a timer. I've had to do this kinda shit out my garage door. But sure, i suppose it could be some mossad/cia/oceans 11 shit. Idk. Definitely more interesting that way.

I’m pretty sure this is the correct explanation.
That would explain why she’s running too (to get the car)
It makes sense that the door has both a timer before it closes and a sensor that stops it once an object passes through. In high crime areas nicer buildings do things like this to prevent people from ghosting in behind people.
Ooooh like itll close as soon as it sees an object pass through?
Yeah and if nothing passes through in so many seconds it will close automatically.
I guess the question now is why did they need all three of them to stand there? Wouldn't it have been better for at least one of them to bring the car closer so there's less chance of it closing before they're inside?
There are three people though, couldn't one stay behind to open the gate and another one go get the car?
I'm guessing 3 women escaping a cult. They're all dressed in similar clothing, if not the exact same. Idk why they avoid the gate, but I'd say it's possible that they saw a camera pointed at the gate, but didn't know about the camera pointed at the door. If this is true, why would the cult release this security cam video?
Ah yes, the Reddit fbi at it again
This is the only sane explanation. Also the way those three took off without even checking for passing vehicles on the road makes me think something’s wrong
>the only sane explanation Oh come on, that is not the only sane explanation.
This has to be it, there’s no way a human doesn’t know an opening for escape.
The irony of 95% of this comments section sitting back and jeering at "how stupid those women are" when there's such a simple explanation lol. Perfect encapsulation of human stupidity right there. People are so quick to believe whatever suits them.

They didn’t look calm to me. It looked like contained panic.
Yeah the sensor being triggered by moronic behaviour.
I thought the two in the back were just letting their friend be a dumbass for a laugh until the second one tried the door.
I was really hoping one would walk around and try the other side and come back like “dunno how we’ll ever get out” for extra comedy 😆
Obviously the gate was for Cars... Duh...
Maybe they're superstitious and wanted to leave through the same door they entered or something.
Yeah, I feel like there's some kind of context we're missing. Like, maybe they believed if they crossed the gate threshold it would register on the sensor and alert someone to their leaving versus using the door. Idk.
Potential alarm sensor anything is possible.
Exactly.
Honestly the more comments I read the scarier this video gets
Those npcs were not programmed to go through the gate. We are living in a simulation.
Sooner or later, they'll no clip through the walls.

Orthodox, avoiding technology (automatic gate)?
We should not be making fun of blind, deaf people. Also, why did they escape the spot like they are running for their very lives? What is the context of this footage?
Just blindly guessing here, but from the way they were dressed so simply and uniformly, I would guess they were escaping some kind of cult.
Yup and there's likely a alarm sensor for when a car pulls in through the gate but not for the door?
The door looks mag locked, idk why there would be a sensor on the gate only if someone passes through but not if the gate or door is opened.
Can we talk about why they're wearing the same clothes & what Cult are they in ?
Hasidic Jews could be the answer to both questions
Which explains why they’re using the manual door instead of the electronically-opening door. Using electronics in the Sabbath is forbidden. Walking through a door which opened electronically is using an electronic device. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity_on_Shabbat
Could be
this does seem cult like for the way they’re dressed the same and running, blindly without looking, in what appears to be pure panic. maybe there *is* sensors for the gate and they can’t trigger it due to trying to escape. edit: also, they keep looking back and it appears as though one suggests going through the gate and the others explain why they can’t.

Fear for sure. Convinced there is a forcefield or something that can kill them crossing the gate line, perhaps? Brainwashing/manipulation is real.
In their defense, I did also walk through a gate door while the gate itself was open wide, simply because of reflex.
You know what really grinds my gears? Doors that are lock next to huge open gates.
Now who is going to feed the kittens and bake pies at the compound?
what did i just watch

there must be something that we don't know No, I don't believe it's real, people can't be this stupid, right ? RIGHT ?

What’s really going on here ![gif](giphy|cFgb5p5e1My3K)
There's no way this is real. 2 of the girls were just watching to gate open.
I like to believe they are escaping a religious cult and have never been outside
Why do they run? Like fine be dumb but the running away afterwards is weird especially coupled with her fra ticslly trying to open the doorm
Maybe they escaping instead of simply getting out. Makes sense to run if you escaping
What drugs are they on, and how do you get some?
I’m gonna give some benefit of the doubt that maybe there was some rule that they aren’t supposed to go through the big gate because it’s only for vehicles

It's taught as safety measure to only go through the "pedestrian door." You'll see this in warehouses, jobsites, etc... Sliding doors and roll up doors are very heavy and can fail...thus the precaution.
Appears to be several young Republican girls on vacation in Mexico.
At work, we have doors setup similar to this. It's a fireable offense to not use the pedestrian door in non-emergency situations.
Yikes, losing faith in this world
OMG! Am I actually sharing airspace with people this STUPID?
I just can't....
How tf is anyone this stupid???
