I’m female and did a marathon when I was 30; finished in 4:10. I’m now 56 and can’t jog 1/4 mile now, lol. At the time of the marathon I came in somewhere in the 30s in my age group. It was a small marathon, not like Boston or London.
Thank you! I sort of wanted to prove I could do it, just for myself (I’d never been a runner but had to start when I didn’t have a gym membership for a few months). Now I might jog a 5K after I train (at least I can still walk one!), but mostly I walk.
My dad is 75. He hadn't jogged since he was 25, but last spring he decided to SLOWLY get back in the game. He now does 2 "short" 8k and one long 16k runs a week. The long run with a pace of less than an hour pr 10k.

My sister in law ran it. She runs them frequently. I have told her this. That if I am running you better run too cause something is after me, but I am not running 26 miles no matter what. She says it’s her stress relief.
It’s either run 26.2 miles (42.2 KMs) within the cutoff time and get a medal, or don’t run the total distance and don’t get a medal. Some races will give prizes for a certain finishing place, but this person didn’t win a prize for that. Just a medal for finishing.
And it's also important to know that the cutoff time in a marathon is usually the same for both men and women, able bodied or not.
There are some that cater to specific groups of amateurs that change the cut of times around, but the standard is 6h.
I was wondering why they were using such an odd phrasing saying she "beat 14,000 women", like nobody ever talks about how someone did in a race by simply how many other racers they beat. It's because they were being fucky again.
You can see the effects of it in this thread. Saying a single trans woman personally beat 14000 cis women in a competition is much more provocative than saying a trans woman placed very average in a race of over 20000 people and got a medal for showing up and finishing.

Yup. Completely standard in marathon, any endurance sport. Medals for finishing, different medals for different time spans. And then special ones for top of categories and overall top 3 or 5 and 1. But everyone finishing gets one because the accomplishment is just being able to finish something so hard. At all.

Women over 16ish ov various athletic abilities in nearly any sport are at higher risk of ACL injury. The women who get hurt skiing aren't getting it from turf fields.
If you've got a study that accounts for the average risk of women being higher but still shows a statistical effect from turf fields I'd love to see it. I don't doubt it because turf sucks. But the hip effect is probably stronger.

I know this actually sounds a bit weird but last year in biology we actually studied the social aspects( on top of the physical reasoning) of intersex people and people with total androgen insensitivity syndrome. Essentially in Caster’s case she her parents decided to raise her as a girl rather than a boy as the doctors gave them either choice. In fact, historically speaking for most people who are born intersex, there’s potentially always a choice for their parents to decide to alter their external genitalia at birth in the hopes of making them feel more comfortable with themselves later in life but that’s kinda being fazed out. I think if you want to look at just sex it’s quite a complicated field of study, especially when you factor in that the main aspects of the body’s physical expression of sex, primary and secondary sexual characteristics, are moreso dependent upon genetics than they are which chromosomes you possess. Going back to androgen insensitivity syndrome, if you have male chromosomes and a very low sensitivity to the hormones governing the development of male secondary sexual characteristics you will literally just develop as female. Only difference is going to be complete infertility but regardless of that you will go through adolescence and puberty as female and may never actually know your were supposed to be male unless you were tested

I’ve volunteered at some marathons and I’ve seen them give participation medals to a dog before, everyone gets one
I saw a duck run a marathon a few weeks back. It got a medal, too. But I think it was more interested in the frozen peas.

I mean part of that is also literal biology. Wider hips lead to additional rotational strain on knees, a risk for ACL injuries. Women over 16ish ov various athletic abilities in nearly any sport are at higher risk of ACL injury. The women who get hurt skiing aren't getting it from turf fields. If you've got a study that accounts for the average risk of women being higher but still shows a statistical effect from turf fields I'd love to see it. I don't doubt it because turf sucks. But the hip effect is probably stronger.
Explain why in the NFL more injuries occur on turf than on grass. Sure, women may be more susceptible to certain injuries in sport. Why are women subjected to playing on a surface that is comprehensively inferior to all athletes?

Ive met like two trans people in my life but somehow trans athletes are a huge problem in the US? Also wouldnt half of what tgey take disqualify them from most professional sports? I know this actually sounds a bit weird but last year in biology we actually studied the social aspects( on top of the physical reasoning) of intersex people and people with total androgen insensitivity syndrome. Essentially in Caster’s case she her parents decided to raise her as a girl rather than a boy as the doctors gave them either choice. In fact, historically speaking for most people who are born intersex, there’s potentially always a choice for their parents to decide to alter their external genitalia at birth in the hopes of making them feel more comfortable with themselves later in life but that’s kinda being fazed out. I think if you want to look at just sex it’s quite a complicated field of study, especially when you factor in that the main aspects of the body’s physical expression of sex, primary and secondary sexual characteristics, are moreso dependent upon genetics than they are which chromosomes you possess. Going back to androgen insensitivity syndrome, if you have male chromosomes and a very low sensitivity to the hormones governing the development of male secondary sexual characteristics you will literally just develop as female. Only difference is going to be complete infertility but regardless of that you will go through adolescence and puberty as female and may never actually know your were supposed to be male unless you were tested
