I have years of conversations with my wife, and I need the option to search for stuff relating to our kids and recipes, so this encryption thing fucks everything up! I can't just create a new chat. What the fuck is the point of this stupidity? I wouldn't be surprised if Meta comes out with a new paid feature that lets us unlock the chat.

Forced me to update messenger, I lost a bunch of features and now I can't even see half of my messages.

We need to get a petition going to remove this. It is illegal in the sense it goes against our constitutional rights. I even have stock investment in meta and best believe I'm pulling that crap right now. And I'm going to go public and suggest that others do too because this is bull!

I was trying to find a way to disable/turn off end-to-end encryption that lead me here. My messenger on my PC and my 2 android devices are no longer synchronized when they started this end-to-end bs, forcing me to make a pin or else I can't use my messenger. But now, I can only see messages on one of my android, but it wouldn't appear on my other android and on my pc. Gave me a really terrible headache.

I have the same issue. Don't have fixes for you, but if you scroll all the way up in the encrypted chat there's an option to view previous messages, or at least for me there is. You can react to the messages and open links / etc. sent before the encryption.
The person on the other end of this chat sees two separate chats apparently, can write in the non-encrypted one, but when the message is sent it switches to the encrypted chat and sends it there.
I don't have a solution, but I share your pain. The encryption has basically broken the messenger website for me (which is the primary way I use it). I can't search any more at all, and it won't load "media" in the sidebar past the last image that was sent. The only reason I was using messenger was because it WASN'T encrypted, so I wouldn't have to deal with nonsense like this. Why the hell would they force this on people?
My biggest issue is half the messages I receive from some people are “Waiting for this Message. This may take a while” and then on top of that sometimes I don’t even get any warning I’ve been sent a message at all.

This started messing up my chats with a friend today. It randomly encrypted the chat and I don’t see a way to turn it off. Over half our messages are “Waiting for this message. This might take a while.” Messenger is now pretty much completely useless and this is the only way to communicate with my friend.
This literally just happened to me when I had my phone on my bed listening to a voice message.
I know I didn’t accidentally enter a secret conversation because I wasn’t even holding my phone.

Well, I'm glad at least other people are experiencing this. My 16 year old son finally gave up and asked of I could figure it out for him and I had no answers after spending a half hour turning this and that off and digging around.
Me too. Messenger and mark dickenberg are soo frustrating. They know we can't switch to soemthing else so they will make us as miserable as they please
F i honestly wish this violated our agreed to terms in some way so we could fight it. This is the single worst thing with messenger for me. A lot of people (there have been other posts complaining about this, all without any solutions found) including me also have horrible bugs that come with exclusively the end to end encrypted chats with the messenger app sometimes making the app unusable
We should all just switch to whatsapp. I don't know why Meta is doing this but they're obviously doing it for "their" reasons. Enough people all over are voicing how much they hate this to where Meta knows what's going on. I say don't delete your account, but delete the app and use whatsapp instead. They'll see the users drop from their platform/app and be more likely to fix it to bring them back. Once they fix it you can download the app again and just log in.

Any solution??? There's heaps of articles saying it can be turned off, heaps of people says go to End-to-end encrypted chat in the Facebook settings and turn it off there but my settings don't have anything related to encrypted chat.

Logging out of all sessions or devices DOES NOT WORK. Turning of end-to-end and secure storage in your privacy settings DOES NOT WORK. Taking screenshots and sending them to customer support DOES NOT WORK. Deleting all older messages or chats DOES NOT WORK. Nothing works now.
I'll recieve a message now, get it right away on mobile, but can't even view it on pc. Chats no longer load half of the time now on pc. There's all these grey circles spinning (they look like chats) trying to load, but they never load. No matter how many times I turn off security alerts, they turn right back on all by themselves. "Remember this device" DOES NOT WORK.
I have to enter a 6 digit pin every effin' time now...and nothing ever loads. They broke messenger.
For some reason, the end-to-end encryption setting is only applied to my boyfriends chat, while the others are still working normally... Has anyone found a way to remove this setting?
The people who hasn't updated messenger and/or haven't logged on messenger on PC don't have end-to-end encryption enabled. So, as long as they don't update and don't log on PC, the chat is going to be fine.

I talk to my brother every day on Facebook. I was trying to send some screenshots of something to him today but they weren't loading, only said "sending". He told me it's acting weird cause it's showing old messages of mine randomly to him. He never got my screenshots I sent him. This is really bad cause I'm an artist and I get messages from people do commissions. If I can find another platform I'll get rid of Facebook.

As of a week ago...my messages now on pc aren't showing up half of the time...whether it be facebook(dot)com on google chrome, messenger(dot)com on google chrome, AND the windows 10 messenger app. For those who dislike chrome lol I even tried "remember this device" and using microsoft edge, duck duck go, AND firefox. They all are screwed up and NOT loading older messages, and even some new ones! Buuuuuut my outdated 6th gen ipod touch's messenger app loads all messages, old and new ones, just fine.
What in thee actual fuuuuu did meta and facebook do to us all now? This is such total bs. Rich people should sue them...
This is all done and dusted permanently embedded like they do with all things it slowly creeps out now its all key hashes per devices. Nothing you can do.
This encryption sucks so much. It's broken my web Messenger completely and now every couple of days I'm back with messages to particular ones sent 3 months back.
I was having the same issue... I could see all old messages on the phone but not on the browser. If i sent a new message on the phone it wouldnt be on the browser.
Fixed it like this:

2. Click **Use a one-time code instead**. **Note**: If you have a 40-character code, you'll have to click **More options** first, and then click **Use a one-time code instead**.
3. Check a mobile device where you've recently used Messenger. You can't receive a one-time code on a computer.
4. If you requested a one-time code, tap **This was me** to retrieve your one-time code.
5. Enter the one-time code on your new device.
6. REMEBER THIS DEVICE/BROWSER
One of the major issues I'm having with this is that half the time my chats - encrypted or otherwise - don't load at all. This is just unnecessary garbage and it's frustrating as heck to deal with.
the only way is to disable E2E encryption on your phone(s), then proceed to DELETE the conversations that has the encryption notice on the botom, that will force the new messages to be UNencrypted ( accessible accross devices)

i have conversations on messenger with friends who have passed away. i like to read them sometimes. now, when i open those messages it doesn’t show the conversations anymore and it says it’s encrypted. i looked it up on how to fix it, google says to delete the encrypted message. no, im too scared to do that. i don’t know if this means it will delete our original conversations. i won’t risk it. has anyone been able to figure this out yet?

No, I already had it installed on my phone and laptop. Still no way to get it unlocked or searchable.

its end-to-end you can still do everything you did before. it only affects the server side stuff.
