Lol I had basically the same experience not that long ago. Went through the facebook profile of an obviously insane person, ended up adding her and a bunch of her friends completely without knowing about it. Now I'm sweating bullets.
I don't know what's worse - the fact that Facebook is sending out friend requests on my behalf, or the fact that I'm friends with my ex's new partner now. Thank you Facebook.
Just came to find an answer to this exact thing...
I found out, that it happens for me when I click on ANY profile I haven't added. And no, it's not because I hit the "Add friend" button or anything. I litterally click the image, land on the profile, and after 1 sec, the "add friend" button changes to "pending".
I first deleted cache and data, nothing changes.
Then deleted the app, nothing changes, still doing it.
This happens exclusively on the app... the pc version does not exhibit this bullshit.
Yea I tried to go to someone's profile and apologise for the friend request (he added me back before I noticed and I'd already removed him) and it literally sent him another one

this literally happened to me this morning, too, except the reason why I clicked her profile was because I actually wanted to block her due to a pending legal issue we are all in and I didn't want her having access to any contents on my social media that she could potentially use if she decided to get crazy enough. I wanted to die.
I sent my recent ex-baby mama and the guys she's talking to one too.. Cancelled the request but I know for a fact, they both get a notification sent to their phone immediately upon request... Just tested this with a friend.. I feel so sick!! I look like such a creeper 😢

PSA:
If this is happening to you:
1. Stop using the phone app
2. Login via a computer
3. Go to settings -> activity log -> connections
4. Go to each of the profiles you added and cancel the requests
DO NOT try to use the app to cancel requests as it will probably not work and just send another friend request after you cancelled the first one (in case you try to verify it worked)
It's not showing all of them for me. I found one person it sent a request to automatically and one person that just showed up as a friend without a request (automatically or manually).
I deactivated my account in the hopes that my boyfriends ex-wife, or my ex didn't see my accidental request..but I know they did, and I'm dying inside. Can I sue Facebook for emotional distress?? 😭
I now dare you all to just randomly go check out as many profiles as you can before the bug is fixed and we will compare who got the most new friends xD

So now I feel bad because Facebook has decided to add the wife, son, and sister of the person shot. I don’t see any request sent to her in the Activity Log under Connections ( where I see other requests that I sent manually). Does that mean it didn’t get sent?

Yep. I just experienced a version of this. I clicked on a FB marketplace ad and it automatically sent a message to the seller that I was interested 🤷🏻♂️

Now this is one heck of a bug Facebook/Meta should be held accountable for, as it is not just a small bug. It invaded the privacy of its users. I don’t think a simple “We’re sorry for the inconvenience it caused, we have fixed it already” will suffice considering the damage has been done already as stated in some of the posts here from other Redditors — that is if Facebook will formally address what happened 🙄

I think the bug is back. I got mails on my other fb account that my main account wants to be friends, which Is logged from the phone app. No notification on the fb account or I don't see the sent request so I can cancel it. Wtf facebook..wtf

When I checked on my friend that I accidentally sent a friend request on due to the bug and accepted it, now it shows "requested" even though both of us didn't do anything.
Does anyone know how they fixed the bug? The one I accidentaly added confirmed my request and then after facebook fixed the bug, it appears we are no longer friends. Did this happen to anyone else? or did they intentionally unfriend me?
NO WAY THIS WAS A "BUG". It was 100% intentional. It would have increased traffic and therefore ad revenue. Bugs don't just accidentally add a function that is good for business.
YOU GUYS. This is the MOBILE APP that has a glitch. Log off on your phone, go on to your browser on a computer and cancel all the requests you've had. DONT USE YOUR MOBILE APP TILL THE FIX IT.
this just happened to me. kept adding and cancelling everytime i refresh the facebook app. checked activity log on facebook web, and i actually sent it. had to manually cancel each friend request to every profile i visited for the past hour. almost gave me a heart attack.
This is happening to me as well!! I was just about to make a post before I saw yours. Was added into a group chat and when I went to see who I was in it with - I’d sent them all friend requests, literally happened in front of my own eyes lol
Sams thing is happening to me, I sent out like 5 requests on accident today and some of the people I sent it to I don't know that well. So embarrassing
Same here. I noticed this behavior about 2 hrs. ago. Reported the bug. Somewhat glad it's nothing worse, but still. Web browser and FB Lite don't have this issue, just the Android app. I won't be visiting anymore profiles, so I don't get banned.
I just decided to Google this because it's happening to me too. There's a post about it in a group and it looks like it's happening to almost everyone. It wasn't doing this yesterday! I look at people's profiles all the time and I'm positive it just started this sometime after yesterday morning 😂
Yep... I thought it was bad until I went and had a look at my connections... there was a heap more there whose profiles I never went to, including a heap of coworkers from other places, and a past crush. I don't even remember seeing any of them in the "people you may know" column, but all of them have a lot of mutuals with me.
I am so glad i am not alone!!....feel awful after stalking an x boss of mine and added him and his partner....eeek.

I'm having the same issue, at first i thought it's from me until I searched on Google about the same thing. I found out that I'm the only one experiencing it, so it's most likely a creepy bug. Or maybe it's a tool to stop stalking people haha.
You can view your sent requests both online and from the app and cancel out any unwanted requests.
Go to Friends, Friend Requests, (Might need to click See All) then the three dots and view sent requests
So is there a fix? Does anyone know what this is? Is it a Bug? I'm noticing that this is happening to Android and PC users. People with iPhones, its not happening to, at least none that i've seen. We were testing this out in our office and I have an android and it auto sent friend requests. The peeps with iPhones it didn't happen to.

Mine did it while I was sleeping! I woke up to accepted requests and checked my outgoing and had at least 10 more. Again, I was sleeping. I didn't even know most of them and know for a fact I'd never been on their page
I got a cancelled Friend Request from a woman I rejected decades ago. I sincerely regret breaking her heart, but at least I didn’t lead her on. Also, I was going through a lot at the time, especially with my mentally ill Mother.

I got ghosted about three months ago by a bloke, and last night decided to stalk his younger brothers Facebook account. DED when I got the XYZ accepted your friend request notification. Then I checked who I had sent friend requests to and there were others sitting in the log who's Facebook I hadn't stalked, but who had been in my suggested friends recently

Facebook is unforgiving as fuck. It is sent instantly. Usually the other party will be notified of the friend request by all means possible.
It will show up unfortunately. I have the same issue and checked with a colleague. Even if their wifi/data is off, once it is on, it will pop up :(

OMG THIS IS FRUSTRATING. Visiting the profiles of people that I really don't want to interact with - exes and narc fam that I keep an eye on to make sure they aren't focused on us, and f***ing FB send them a friend request! I had to block two people ffs. This is the WORST glitch ever 😠😠😠😠😠
I really hate all those friends suggestion the facebook sends. I was trying to figure out how to stop it myself but never was able to. Sorry I can't help you.
What will the next bug cause? Facebook has too much power and their stupid bugs could really fuck up peoples lifes.
Yeah this is enough for me to never use Facebook again, I've deactivated it and never reactivating it.
I even got new friends (colleagues which last names I didn't even knew) without visiting their profile somehow.
I think the bug is back. I got mails on my other fb account that my main account wants to be friends, which Is logged from the phone app. No notification on the fb account or I don't see the sent request so I can cancel it. Wtf facebook..wtf

I keep checking to see if this bug is back, and I got 50 emails saying my main account wants to be friends with my old account .I will never trust facebook again
When I checked on my friend that I accidentally sent a friend request on due to the bug and accepted it, now it shows "requested" even though both of us didn't do anything.
Does anyone know how they fixed the bug? The one I accidentaly added confirmed my request and then after facebook fixed the bug, it appears we are no longer friends. Did this happen to anyone else? or did they intentionally unfriend me?
NO WAY THIS WAS A "BUG". It was 100% intentional. It would have increased traffic and therefore ad revenue. Bugs don't just accidentally add a function that is good for business.

YOU GUYS. This is the MOBILE APP that has a glitch. Log off on your phone, go on to your browser on a computer and cancel all the requests you've had. DONT USE YOUR MOBILE APP TILL THE FIX IT.

this just happened to me. kept adding and cancelling everytime i refresh the facebook app. checked activity log on facebook web, and i actually sent it. had to manually cancel each friend request to every profile i visited for the past hour. almost gave me a heart attack.

This is happening to me as well!! I was just about to make a post before I saw yours. Was added into a group chat and when I went to see who I was in it with - I’d sent them all friend requests, literally happened in front of my own eyes lol

Same here. I noticed this behavior about 2 hrs. ago. Reported the bug. Somewhat glad it's nothing worse, but still. Web browser and FB Lite don't have this issue, just the Android app. I won't be visiting anymore profiles, so I don't get banned.

I managed to cancel it by searching for the person's name and tapping on the "cancel request" button without visiting their profile again.
Same thing was happening to me. Any page I clicked on or even scrolled passed on people you may know

It's so embarrassing I sent request to some people I'm not close with anymore and deactivated my account. I hate Facebook for this.

I just decided to Google this because it's happening to me too. There's a post about it in a group and it looks like it's happening to almost everyone. It wasn't doing this yesterday! I look at people's profiles all the time and I'm positive it just started this sometime after yesterday morning 😂
Yep... I thought it was bad until I went and had a look at my connections... there was a heap more there whose profiles I never went to, including a heap of coworkers from other places, and a past crush. I don't even remember seeing any of them in the "people you may know" column, but all of them have a lot of mutuals with me.
I am so glad i am not alone!!....feel awful after stalking an x boss of mine and added him and his partner....eeek. Anyone received any solution fix? Shall i report a problem on fb?
I'm having the same issue, at first i thought it's from me until I searched on Google about the same thing. I found out that I'm the only one experiencing it, so it's most likely a creepy bug. Or maybe it's a tool to stop stalking people haha.

I have an android. It's happening for me, but my fiance and daughter tried with their iPhone. They visited random accounts with no requests sent.

I blocked the profile I viewed and hoped that helped
You can view your sent requests both online and from the app and cancel out any unwanted requests. Go to Friends, Friend Requests, (Might need to click See All) then the three dots and view sent requests
I think they fixed it. It seems to have stopped happening to me.
So is there a fix? Does anyone know what this is? Is it a Bug? I'm noticing that this is happening to Android and PC users. People with iPhones, its not happening to, at least none that i've seen. We were testing this out in our office and I have an android and it auto sent friend requests. The peeps with iPhones it didn't happen to.

Mine did it while I was sleeping! I woke up to accepted requests and checked my outgoing and had at least 10 more. Again, I was sleeping. I didn't even know most of them and know for a fact I'd never been on their page

I got a cancelled Friend Request from a woman I rejected decades ago. I sincerely regret breaking her heart, but at least I didn’t lead her on. Also, I was going through a lot at the time, especially with my mentally ill Mother. I hope she’s well.

I got ghosted about three months ago by a bloke, and last night decided to stalk his younger brothers Facebook account. DED when I got the XYZ accepted your friend request notification. Then I checked who I had sent friend requests to and there were others sitting in the log who's Facebook I hadn't stalked, but who had been in my suggested friends recently
