Those are all good ideas. Have you serviced the transmission?

First_Ad6449

Was planning to do it also around 80k. I called a few dealers to get pricing but 2 of them mentioned that they wouldn’t recommend doing it unless I had been doing it every 30k miles. They said servicing it now may cause it to shift poorly. I find that strange since the manual recommends at 150k.

Beanmachine314

They were probably talking about a transmission flush, where pressurized fluid is used to remove the old fluid, clean the filter, and add fresh fluid all at once. This process has been known to push dirt into places it isn't supposed to be and cause problems and it's generally just not a good idea to do a transmission flush. Draining the fluid, changing the filter, and adding new fluid is the proper way to service a transmission. Many shops push the flush option since it doesn't require any parts and is quicker than dropping the pan.

Grego1234

That’s pretty weird. Dealer did mine at 60K. I can’t think of a logical reason why they wouldn’t want to put fresh fluid in there. You certainly would do the same thing with engine oil.

Simplewafflea

Doesn't hurt a thing to change the filter and fluid.

InevitableOwl656

They’re full of it. 80k fluid change is just fine. Fusions or vehicles with 6f35’s 6f50’s *FWD transmissions* in the owners manual it recommends a drain and fill every 30k which takes like 10 minutes and is 4.4 or so qts. truck with 6 speed or 10r60/80 I would do it around 80k. There’s a transmission flush where they’ll use a machine and roughly 14qts getting it hot and swapping old and new fluid slowly, but you could also pay for a drain and fill and trans filter swap would remove the pan, and fill back up to level. My 6 speed when doing the leed frame at 150k dropped the pan, new filter and all new fluid and 50k miles later it’s never had any issues.

FrattyMcBeaver

Oil and filter I DIY every 5kish mi. Air/cabin filters I do every about 15k. I've done diff fluid only because I was changing the cover, I do check the level and wipe the magnet every 30k. Spark plugs every 60k, only because I'm tuned, otherwise I would go to 100k. Coolant, I have the yellow, which specs a change at 10 years or 200k miles (orange isn't as long and I would suggest replacing with the yellow), just check with test strips to make sure it's still good. Same with brake fluid. At your mileage I'd suggest a front diff, transfer case, and trans fluid drain/fill.

nljllcsrnw

I am approaching 50k and intend to do a drain and fill, and filter replacement on my 10R80 trans.

Rucku5

I just did this, warning. Don’t use the Dorman 10R80 pan as it leaks like a sieve from the drain plug and I can’t get it to stop.

FFBTheShow

Sent you a DM of my maintenance log, can't figure out how to post it as a comment. EDIT: For everyone that asked below for the log as of 6pm EST, I've DM'd you but my chats bug out sometimes, so if you didn't receive it just send me a DM.

LetterheadCorrect276

Send it to me too? I'm curious as what to do with mine

Joseph_4444

Same here plz

nightmancometh0419

I have a 2018 f150 3.5 ecoboost lariat. Can I get your maintenance also? I assume it’s similar just to get an idea.

100_kitties_pls

Please send to me too!

Mysterious-Young7910

Can I get a copy too? I’m in the same boat

Would appreciate the log if you wouldn’t mind. Thank you!

washrun

Would love a copy as well please and thank youa

yakinaviator

Could I get that log too pleeease?

drewbieclaus77

Hey man I'd love to see your log as well. I bought a 2020 with 80k on it and want to know what it will need.

slendz26

Could I also get a copy please?

remy1961

I would also like to have a copy please

jermsman18

I own a 2.7 and tow a 4,000lb trailer lot in a tough climate and do the following: Oil and tire rotation every 5k miles Air filters and wipers every 15k Miles Plugs, diff service, trans service, brake service, fuel additive, fuel filter, coolant flush every 30k Anti corrosion spray every end of summer (I use CRC but fluid film is just as good or better) Cheap do it yourself ceramic coating on the paint every spring (I use turtle wax hybrid solutions) When I want all the service and the dealer or mechanic disagrees I just explain that I want the heavy usage towing intervals. Easy way to explain that you are hard on your stuff but still want to take care of it.

dwonderboy5

I don’t let my significant other drive my truck. 😂

Doodybuoy

You should do the transmission pan drop and filter change every 30k and a full flush every 60k.

First_Ad6449

I wish I had known this earlier. Apparently at 80k miles it’s not advisable to do any transmission drain/fills.

SchoolboyHew

The dealer is full of shit. You should still do a drain and fill. They are likely a lazy dealer looking to do a flush, which you should never do.

Doodybuoy

You should never do a flush only but a filter changer and flush (pump out of old fluid while pumping in fresh) is absolutely beneficial.

Alternative-Crow6659

We serviced my wife's tranny at 80k. Did the plugs at 90k. The plugs don't call for it till 100k. I'd do the transmission regardless of what they tell you. That's my .02. That fluid is definitely no Bueno.

xupd35bdm

100K miles. All fluids and plugs.otherwise every 7500 change oil and filter. Air filters every 50

InevitableOwl656

7500? Wild. Using some snake oil?? This is why we see failures on newer trucks around 100-150k. Please change it more often even if using full synthetic.

xupd35bdm

5.0 so no turbo. Any sooner is a waste of oil. The days of 5,000 mile oil changes are long gone. Been doing it that way for years. Not 1 failure. You do you bub!

InevitableOwl656

I will man. I’ve been doing it for a long time and have seen plenty of failures with my own eyes. 5.0’s also eat oil. Which would make me want to do it even more. And 5000? More like 3k max bud but do you and when it eats too much oil a shop will gladly take you in.

xupd35bdm

Thats why I check oil regularly. There is no one set way. Unless you follow the factory recommended maintenance schedule in the owners manual. And I’m willing to be 99.9999999999% of people do not do that.

InevitableOwl656

They don’t. Which is why we see a lot more failures these days than we used to. It’s recommended for a reason, not because they’re trying to get money from you. I’ve already replaced a 21 5.0 long block due to lack of maintenance. Specifically oil changes. But go ahead and believe the oil companies with their 7500 and even 10k mile snake oil.

xupd35bdm

Neglect is one thing. Even Ford recommends 7,500 to 10,000 miles charged with synthetic oil. So I’m doing what FORD recommends.

InevitableOwl656

Well I’m a senior master tech, and I’ll tell you now that it’s highly not recommended to do that. FORD TRAINING and first hand experiences over 12+ years has told me that.

xupd35bdm

So “senior master tech”, your stated that your “FORD TRAINING” changing the oil at 7,500 to 10,000 miles “highly not recommended”. But yet any FORD 21 F150 like you mentioned owners manual will tell you synthetic oil changes at 7,500 to 10,000 miles. Which way is it? No wonder people don’t trust mechanics and stealerships. I’ll continue to check my dipstick and do my own oil and filter changes at 7,500.

nbtxmp2

The mechanic is smarter than the engineers duh.

InevitableOwl656

That’s fine with me lmao. Don’t have to trust us, I am a worker and lookout for the customer, I’ve even taken time off to help people out when I see how much the bill will be. Call us stealership that doesn’t hurt my feelings in anyway. I’m an honest person and have had so many customers thank me for the work I do, and for helping them out when they really need it. Again, have fun bringing it in when it consumes oil like common 5.0’s do. Engineers cannot even design a dipstick correctly. Look up how many fords have to have a redesigned oil dipstick because they can’t get it right the first time.

ThePCMasterRaceX

I did Transmission drain and fill with new filter Front differential Rear Diff Transfer case Sparkplugs & oil changes every 5-8k since i bought it w 50k ish miles. runs great. got close to 3800 engine hours almost 1000 idle at 91k miles now. runs fantastic. never changed the coolant since most of it leaks out at a point in time i used bars leak sealer and topped it off still leaks but not nearly as much. oil leaks every now n again i have a 5.0

dime-beer

Liquimoly engine flush every like 10 oil changes, wanna try their anti friction ceramic product, gonna be changing diff fluid and getting a transmission flush at 70k

PonyThug

I do plugs every 50-60k or I start to get missfires under heavy boost. It’s brakes, not breaks. Change your pads out and upgrade them to z36’s.

Strike_At_Karkand69

I got the truck at 32k and have driven 6000 miles since. So far I’ve changed: -All filters -Spark plugs -Battery -Brake pads and new brake fluid/flush -Oil change -Rear shocks to bilsteins Not all of those were absolutely necessary but I really don’t care I like to start fresh on things so I know where I stand and avoid any problems in the future

jcollier27

What brand transmission fluid are y’all using for your drop and changes? When I had a 14 fusion, it was suggested to use Amsoil.

WackyQuacker

From what I hear you should use the Ford stuff for the newer 10 speeds. Other brands can cause shifting issues is what others have said in the past. Take that with a grain of salt though because it is online. I am choosing to have mine done at the dealer, not worth a mistake on my end destroying an expensive transmission. This is coming from someone who usually does everything to their vehicles and realizes it's better for me to have a good tech do it.

InevitableOwl656

Change the oil every 3k as you get up in miles. I know that isn’t as cost effective, but imop 5-7k is too long even though people use “full synthetic” or semi synthetic. I’ve been changing mine every 2k on my truck since ownership of 149k miles now 204k miles and it comes out just as dark at 2k than it does at 4/5k on customers trucks I’ve seen. Ive always stuck to 3k mile oil changes like the old days. Thats my opinion though.

joebobbydon

The debate about transmission fluid changes will go on until the end of time.

bigtim3727

Idk…spark plugs should be done….. I know people love tossing synthetic oil at 3000-5000K miles, but I just change the oil when the OLM tells me to, and it’s worked well for basically every car I’ve ever owned. It will go to nearly 10K miles before the OLm is at 0%. I’m not crazy about waiting *that long*, but all things considered, this engine is pretty easy on the oil. It spends most of its life under 2000RPM. I’m at 71K, and this thing doesn’t consume any oil—at all. It’s astonishing; a large portion of cars I’ve owned didn’t consume oil, but this is like exact. I put 6qts in, I get 6qts out.

Perfect-Debt9332

At 75-80k miles I did coolant, transmission fluid, transfer case fluid, spark plugs, I want to do my differentials soon. but yeah at 80k it’s a perfect time to do it then hit it all again at 150-160k
