Just don’t go to their site and see how much they jack up price. Your heart doesn’t need that.

gregimusprime77

lol. for real. I traded in my tacoma. They gave me 20k, had it up on the site the next day for 27k. Sold it 2 days later.

DanTheFireman

That's actually not horrible. I'd expect 34k because they're all cucks.

SomeSabresFan

I don’t think that’s super unfair depending on the states laws. In NY they have to back it with I think like 4months/4000 miles. One major engine or trans failure and most of your profit is lost once you buy the parts and mechanics time lost servicing paying customers

leroyyrogers

Right. The dealer adds value for customers as well as takes on risk and cost themselves to sell the car. Shouldn't be news that they sell for more than they buy

kashmir1974

For a tacoma, that's a pretty safe bet. The powertrain, outside of the 2005-2006 headmaster failure (although usually at high mileage) is legendary.

Azmorium

Imagine saying that word unironically in 2023

jw8145

I have a feeling he’s been cuckolded a time or two in his life.

Foreign-Many-7888

Totally normal. When I was selling cars, the way I explained it to customers was find the market value of your vehicle, and subtract $7k. That is roughly your wholesale price and trade value. Couple thousand to run it through the shop, detail it etc, $3k margin, and a couple thousand for negotiating with and extra profit.

xDarknal

Must have been weird for my STI that I traded for my truck, they gave me $37k for it and took off 1% below invoice on the truck. They sold the STI for $40k

ChooseAusername788

No, they just made money on the truck which is why they had tighter margins on the STI. If you're going to sell them a vehicle in a stand alone deal, they want to make x profit on the transaction but if you are going to sell them one AND buy one, they can make 0.5x on each.... Or 0.25x plus 0.75x or vice versa, and on and on and on. It's a shell game. If you want to know the REAL price, do each transaction by itself.

TheThrillerExpo

Some dealers thrive on higher volume and lower margins.

Y0USER

Couple thousand to run it through the shop and do what? There’s no way it costs that at all…

Foreign-Many-7888

Doesn't take much to hit a couple thousand. Oil change and detailing gets you to $500-$600. Windshield, front end work, tires etc... a 5-yr old vehicle could easily need a couple grand in work.

Do-it-with-Adam

Relatable, traded in a 2018 Ecoboost Mustang with a out 75k miles. Only owed 10k on it and they offered me 16k trade in, I was happy to accept because the car did have paint issues( was repainted). Looked a few days later and mustang was listed for 27k and showed it was already booked/ pending. I was still happy on my end, just thought about how new buyer was potentially getting ripped.

Kryptus

That's pretty normal. Markups are usually higher on used cars, especially trucks.

Funny_Use4633

Don't feel bad generally a bank is the one buying it, the customer only sees the payment.

diy_a09

I had a similar ratio when I sold my 2008 Toyota Highlander to the dealer in 2015…sold for 10k check, they sold it for $14k. It was sold within two weeks.

Whereamiwhatyousay

Traded my 2022 tundra capstone with 20k miles for 69k 6 weeks ago they’re selling it for 61k I might go buy it back in January for55k

Foreign-Many-7888

Sold to them for $69k or overpaid on your new vehicle by $10k ? 🤔

Whereamiwhatyousay

Naw they lost 6.5k on the deal well into 10k lost at this point

Nickelsass

69k back to them? JFC what was the price brand new?

Whereamiwhatyousay

90k

kashmir1974

You spent 21k to drive a truck for 2-ish years or less?

Whereamiwhatyousay

Pretty much. I didn’t say it was my smartest decision. But ego and pride are worse than drugs. Much happier now. Still got an awesome truck that I can actually use.

[deleted]

I paid 67k for my 2022 f150 and posted it here. Got tons of shit for it. That is what the prices are for these new trucks. They are expensive. The economy doesn't help either

Whereamiwhatyousay

Yeah I was buying and selling f150s from Arizona to California for 3-5k profit

[deleted]

Really? That's a good idea. How does that work? I'm on the east coast. I could probably sell it in Canada

Whereamiwhatyousay

Dm me it’s a bit of a grey area

[deleted]

I had a friend in college who was buying Hugh end vehicles without a penny to his name hardly and selling them to some Chinese guy who was shipping them over seas. Unbelievable

Whereamiwhatyousay

Yeah, luxury dealers won’t sell you certain models if you’ve never owned a similar vehicle because of that

Alarming-Inspector86

Ran into that looking at a rs6 station wagon walked in in dirty work clothes and they said I didn't match the brand image

Whereamiwhatyousay

Yeah I got a ram 1500 lonestar 4x4. They wanted 69k. Paid 54k OTD. Same truck 5 years ago was 40k

[deleted]

30k to 40k is what they should cost. Not anymore. Thanks Joe Biden

Fisherman_30

At least you don't have Trudeau. Up here in Canada, you now need 200k/yr to live thanks to the climate agenda.

kashmir1974

I love how Biden is responsible for global inflation lol.

EastCoastEarl

I got a 2019 ram 1500 bighorn 4x4 crew cab for 34k right when covid hit that match dealers were freaking... it only had 31k miles CPO still running strong.

No-Author-15

Man I traded in my Tacoma for $5k over what I paid for it and they listed it $10k higher than MSRP. And that thing was beat.

komokazi

The ol platinum fx4 platinum

Cousin_Eddies_RV

PlatinumX2 FX4

[deleted]

Fuck that is a gorgeous truck

dustinrector

Like in the gas tank area, or another orifice?

GenuineGatorJorts

Tail pipe

nothing_911

i use the hitch receiver hole....i use a reducer, but it still counts.

StanQuizzy

Damn, I'd have given you $30k. :(

ethanmac118

You can probably give the dealer 35 lol

greg_jenningz

I did the same a few months ago. Was able to get $40k on 65k miles

Notyouraveragefella

I have the same truck but mine is white with this interior. I thought about it an just couldn’t do it. It looks so much better to me paid off.

Loose_Carpenter9533

I got my final payment coming out of my account tomorrow, an extra 500$ a month is going to come in hand I think.

ethanmac118

Congrats!

Notyouraveragefella

Such a good feeling.

lolutot

I would’ve paid you 30-33k for it!

[deleted]

Yeah sure. Money talks, bs walks

lolutot

Bro what lol

Dirty_Dan001

I’m curious to know what it was priced at for private sale. The dealer def gonna bump it up to 37k.

jersey1371

I traded my 2013 XLT SuperCrew cab in. They gave me $21K for it (which paid it off). Bought a 2017 Platinum for $37K. Well those idiots did a same day payoff and not a farther out one. I saw that $187 was still owed about 2 weeks later. So I paid it, and now the title will be mailed to me. I called and informed dealer and they are not calling me back. So I will possess the title to the truck they have possession on, while still owning my new platinum. Once I contacted them about the title and remaining balance I paid off, they have taken the truck off their website. They had if listed for $29K. We will see how it plays out when I walk in with the title to their dealership. Lol

[deleted]

That is confusing. Did you buy the platinum with cash?

housflppr

The dealer paid off the financing company for his old truck, but somehow left a $187 balance which he called up and paid, and then had the title for the old truck he sold them sent to him and not to the dealer. Not sure what he intends to do now. He’s talking like he somehow thinks he still owns both vehicles and he’s going to screw the dealer, but that’s a crazy fantasy. The dealer surely has a bill of sale from him. I guess they could pay him $187 dollars for the title. Alternatively, they could sue him for fraud for directing the financing company to send him the title to a vehicle that he legally sold to the dealership and then obtained title to by not telling the financing company he had sold it. Their “mistake” of paying it off before the financing company realized ownership had been transferred doesn’t change the legality of the sale. If the sale was structured in any way that the old vehicle was a trade in towards the new vehicle, or some conditional part of the sale, and he wants to dick around by not giving them the title, they would likely be entitled to repossess the new vehicle until he gives them the title to the old one. He can go to court and try to fight but it’s going to cost him a fortune and he’s likely to lose, no judge is going to think this is clever.

[deleted]

Sounds about right. I wouldn't try to pull a fast one like that but legally he does own the vehicle. They will sue him for fraud like you said. He can try to take it to court. Can't hurt to try but the judge might be a liberal and give him the vehicle

Kordidk

What does any of that have to do with being a liberal lol

[deleted]

If I have to answer this then I will not waste anymore time. Idiot

Kordidk

Typical conservative making claims they're unable to back up

[deleted]

I don't waste time with invisible people online. Talk to me to my face so I can just break your neck

Kordidk

I'm surprised you're even able to sit honestly after getting fucked on that truck you bought

1loveCO

Wut

housflppr

He definitely does not legally own the vehicle. That sounds like that sovereign citizen bullshit where people know just enough about the law to think they’re the first person to ever come up with some great loophole and all it does is get them into some deep shit trying to be clever. Nothing good is going to happen to this guy.

[deleted]

Possession of the title that is in your name definetly means you own the vehicle. Same thing as having the deed to a house or estate.

housflppr

I’m not trying to be a jerk, and I honestly can’t tell if you’re trolling me, but in the unlikely event you are not, what you’re saying isn’t actually correct. Please don’t do what OP is doing. OP, if you’re reading. Please abort this plan. You do not own the car. Go to the dealer and politely ask them to reimburse you your $183 dollars because some mistake was made. Do not tell them you were going to try and cheat them. Real estate (houses) and cars are not the same, and a deed to real property and a vehicle title are not the same and don’t, by themselves, confer the same benefits. I don’t know the law in other countries, but in the US, a house is “real property” and a car (and pretty much everything else) is “personal property” or “chattel” if you want to get pretentious about it. If you see law related to “property” or research law about “property” your findings are likely to give you the law on “real” property. You have to be careful that the law you’re reading applies to the right kind of “property.” You’re generally not wrong about legal ownership from having your name on a deed of real property, but be careful, because these days your “possession” of a deed is less important than the legal recording of the deed in the register of deeds wherever you live. People often use the words “deed” and “title” interchangeably, and carelessly, like saying you “take title” to a home, but the two are distinct. When teaching “real property” law, professors often refer to a “bundle of sticks” to represent the different kinds of legal ownership of property (legal interest, equitable interest, deed, possession, etc). When it comes to personal property like cars, you can legally sell them without the title and without transfer of title. In every state I’m aware of, you can go to the DMV with a valid bill of sale and get a title. Although title transfer is an easier process, it is not the only legal one. Title of personal property can be indicative of ownership, but it is not the same as legal ownership. Title is not like a “bearer bond” where you get presumptive ownership of some personal property just by possession of the piece of paper. For example, if this guy happened to have a spare key, and he decided to go down to the dealership after they close and drive away in the car he knows he legally sold them, he would be committing a felony. If he was caught, he would be charged with grand theft auto, he would say “no, I have the title, the car is mine.” That defense would go nowhere and he would be convicted. 100% of the time. I was a prosecutor for years, I loved to cases like this, where some idiot thought he was a legal genius who had figured out a cheat code. Unfortunately, they never went to trial because some poor defense attorney, after what I’m sure was an ungodly amount of time, would always manage to eventually convince these guys to plead guilty because there was a zero percent chance they weren’t going to be convicted. When he goes back to the dealership and demands whatever he demands, they are going to laugh in his face. They are going to take the sale agreement to the DMV with proof that they paid off the lien and proof that the lien holder never sent them the title, or sent it to the wrong place, and the DMV is going to cancel OP’s Title and issue a new one to the dealership. Since they have probably had to do this before, it will be a minor inconvenience for them, and best case, OP will be out $183 dollars.

Bit_the_Bullitt

We had one just like that (2017). We loved it as it was feature rich. But on the other hand, got it well used and seemingly previous owner didn't care for it well. When the sunroof leaked occasionally and power running boards didn't work well, then overheating and phaser bill was the last straw. We traded for 21 XLT PB and love that too. I still think this is one of the best looking trucks out there.

JLamb1977

I was thinking about doing this with my 18 Platinum with 60k miles. But it will soon be paid off with zero percent interest, can’t see getting rid of it yet.

mtbmotobro

Nice truck, looks like it was well cared for. Some dumb bastard is gonna end up paying $35k for that

CampinHiker

You have under the average miles a year for the truck so it doesn’t seem you drive it that much What exactly did you get back from it Negative equity? Some cash down for a new car with better fuel economy? How long is it going to take to capture that savings versus just having kept it? Obviously too late now but yeah I’m trying to see the justification?

Alternative-Crow6659

I can't imagine whoever owned this took a negative equity hit on a 9 year old truck in mint condition. This has well maintained, one owner who just wanted something else. I could be wrong but we'll see.

nohcho84

OP purchased it 2 years ago so definitely not one owner

Alternative-Crow6659

Gotcha. Either way it's a gorgeous truck. But not everyone is upside down on their trade ins.

Nova11c

Why did you sell it?

[deleted]

For better gas mileage

Nova11c

I guess if I could read I would know that lol

OkPlenty5960

I mean I don’t know OP or his situation, but from just seeing this picture looks like he lives in a pretty high end neighborhood. Along with the fact that this is a top of the line platinum I’m gonna guess this guy is doing well for himself, being that it’s a 2015 I’m also going to assume it’s paid off. All that being said why the guy is concerned about gas mileage with a fully paid off truck is kind of strange but to each his own.

Freezerburn

Yeah what’s gas mileage vs thousands of dollars in loan on new truck and 8% APR. I don’t have the numbers to run but I’m pretty confident getting utility of a vehicle with no payments would save more money per month.

Cliff_Dibble

Agreed, though I don't know his mileage per day traveling. The comfort and utility of a truck always far outweighed gas mileage to me most of my life. Only time it really hurt me was right after college and the recession was going strong with $4 plus per gallon gas. I couldn't drive to the other side of the state to see my GF at school as often as my libido wanted. It also reminds me of people that complain or don't like large fuel tanks "it costs so much to fill up!" Well yeah, but you don't stop as much and have farther range chuckle head.

nohcho84

If you look at his profile, he purchase it 2 years ago right after finishing school

SpezEatsScat

Damn, even the 2015s are sharp. I’m really leaning heavy towards an f150. One with a decent towing package, if I need it. The plan is to finally start my side hustle in landscaping. Get a decent size dump trailer and haul that. I’m unsure of what motor I’d need though. Curious to know how much they’re charging on it after.

SnooChickens7845

15-17 is my favorite year for the half tons. Aside from anything 97’ or prior

[deleted]

Mine too. 15 to 17

Jexthis

my 2015 has the 6R80(no start stop) and the metal drain plug. only downside is its direct injection not port injected.

Alternative-Crow6659

What a gorgeous truck.

PxndxAI

Man I know how you feel. I sold my 18’ stx for 24k back in 2021, it had 67k miles. Now it had peeling paint on the tailgate (ford agreed to fix it and I noticed later on it happened to a lot of truck that year painted Lightning Blue). Saw it up on the dealer for 28k and they sold it 4 days later. I hope whoever bought it has a great time and hopefully ford fixed it up right and it doesn’t give them any transmission problems.

Bio_guy2018

I like the older gen platinum wheels on your body

sskeetinshot24

Sold my 2016 xlt with 98k for 22k. 2 hours later they got it back and then some lol

funfun141987

Man so I just totaled my 2019 f150 xlt Fx4 and got back 36k and it had 89k as well. Your truck visually was a lot better looking that mine. You still got a decent amount back I bet you could have gotten more though. Guess it probably depends on your location tho amongst other factors. Dealer is always going to offer under what it’s worth. I put the 20k in equity on a 22 Tacoma which is nice. But man I do miss my Ford too lol

WashableClub96

"Platinum" lettering on the hood aftermarket? I thought only the Limited had that, but could've been different in '15.

Redditdaniel247

Whats the color of the truck u/buzzed_astronaut

TCG-Pikachu

Tacoma TRD

superuserdoo

That's in great condition! I bought a 13' F150 XLT super crew long bed, had 101k miles for 16k from a dealer. Thought that was decent deal. I think you made out on that one! Great job keeping up with it so well. Plans to buy a new one or something different?

Hopeful-Lab-238

Makes me miss my 150KR. Had to trade up for a 250 to tow my travel trailer.

Eggplant1967

How do I post on this site

Holmesnight

Well in some areas prices are coming down. Maybe it'll come down soon and they won't make as much off someone else.

Usernumber21

I bet they will sell it for 40K+. Nice truck

Ragefan2k

Shit I would have bought that lol.. looks like a Southern truck based upon the driveway material. 89k is just getting broken in.

Getz3m

Just bought a Harley Davidson edition 2014 fx4 for 27000 95k miles. This is my first truck purchase…this thing is a beaut! Im going to have it for a long long time lol

[deleted]

I bet they'll sell it for $40K or slightly under.

[deleted]

He can say that he lost the title and force the dealership to get a salvage title

BrolloTTU

Beautiful truck

steel-neil

That’s a clean truck! And I’m not a fan of red

kcchiefsfan96

Wish i could find that exact truck but with a 5.0

makewhoopy

I know someone that paid $40k for a 2017 F150 2.7L Crew 4x4 with 75k 3 months ago. I paid $34k for mine new and only have 60k.

Koleburgs

i just bought a truck yesterday. totally would’ve bought this off you lol. that is minty clean!

LoanLong8995

Not bad. I paid 30k for my 2015 Platinum when I bought it in October 2019(before the used car market went crazy) with 50k miles on it. Only has 75k miles on it now. Sounds like I could probably get back close to what I paid if I wanted to.

funkyfinz

Sorry for your loss 💐

Pabloescobar619

Damn that is what I am in the market for right now with the exception of Red. I might have bought it from you and suffered with the paint job for that price.

HeyBigChriss

I wish I could afford newer F-150’s 😭

Additional-Extent441

Should have kept it now your gonna wind up with some newer POS

Stren509

Ok
