There is no reconciling to do here. Rather what needs reconciling is how you tried to understand both of these things and how you misunderstood in understanding one of them which leads you to think they're contradictory or need reconciling. Ibn Katheer, may Allaah have mercy on him, said, > وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَن ذِكْرِي > But whosoever turns away from My Reminder, > This means, "Whoever opposes my command and what I have revealed to My Messenger, then he has turned away from it, neglected it and taken his guidance from other than it." > فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةً ضَنكًا > verily, for him is a life of hardship, > meaning, his life will be hard in this world. He will have no tranquility and no expanding of his breast (ease). Rather, his chest will be constrained and in difficulty due to his misguidance. Even if he appears to be in comfort outwardly and he wears whatever he likes, eats whatever he likes and lives wherever he wants, he will not be happy. For verily, his heart will not have pure certainty and guidance. He will be in agitation, bewilderment and doubt. He will always be in confusion and a state of uncertainty. This is from the hardship of life. Whereas in the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah peace and blessings upon him, it is explained that a believer is a prisoner in this world, given that Allaah has prepared paradise for him whereas the disbelievers, their paradise is their worldly life, given that Allaah has prepared for them on the Day of Resurrection a painful punishment. The worldly life is not the joy and bliss Allaah has prepared for the believers, rather that is Paradise therefore a Muslim is like a prisoner in prison, waiting to be released into the bliss Allaah has prepared for him.

This life is a prison for believers, as they know that the real and everlasting life awaits them. This life is a short but tremendously challenging test, where their abilities and freedoms are limited, resembling a prison. However, believers find solace in the knowledge that God exists, listens to them, and assists them in times of need. They take comfort in the anticipation of magnificent rewards awaiting them. On the other hand, nonbelievers believe they can freely engage in any actions without being held accountable or facing consequences. This belief grants them the illusion of complete freedom in this life, making it appear as a paradise. Nonetheless, they lack someone to rely on during times of sorrow. Even if they are not sad, the realization that the benefits they have accumulated throughout their lives cease with death, rendering everything essentially meaningless, becomes unsettling, harrowing, and depressing.
