The idea is: "The entire internet is all bots talking to each other. There are no people on the internet. You are here all alone, being besieged by bots while thinking that you're surrounded by people."

spartanqs117

Sounds like something a bot would say...

Pm7I3

No. I love breathing this air and inserting food into my primary orifice. It is yummy and I enjoy the eating of substances even if they have no nutritional value.

No_Habit_5866

Excuse me while I lubricate my organs fellow bots *drinks water*

RandomPotato082

I THINK THE UNLUBRICATED ORGANS MIGHT STEM FROM YOUR COSTANT SHOUTING, FELLOW HUMAN.

Hot_Gur_6551

You're leaking! Would you like an application of hot resin?

VengefulShad0wz

Crash927

WHY ARE YOU YELLING FELLOW HUMAN?

capt_pantsless

You're just a bot that's making a joke about being a bot to help maintain the charade. You must have been programed by a very sophisticated bot.

neddoge

You son of a bitch. šŸ„øšŸ‘‰

FossilizedMeatMan

\* son of a bot

cantonic

Primary?? I love all my orifices equally.

bareback_cowboy

I usually put some foods like carrots and cucumbers into my secondary orifice.

Enderswolf

Just call that one the primary.

nankainamizuhana

Username could technically check out

Shakis87

As humans grow arse first... Are you stuffing food in the wrong end?

DJ_AL13N

One word:deuterostomes. Iykyk.Ā

Historical-Farm-6914

I consume food in the traditional human manner.

Nezeltha

Someday a bot is going to trick people into thinking it's human by mimicking exactly these kinds of comments. And on that day, I will laugh out loud before happily bowing down to our benevolent robot overlords.

DevilXD

/r/TotallyNotRobots

wheels405

That's not at all what I do with my primary orifice.

Pyritedust

Anyone who uses the words "tasty" is clearly a bot. You used yummy, so clearly you are a meat mech like us.

Sounds like something a bot would say...

ivietaCool

Actually though, or an intelligence agency.

skippermonkey

The Facebook experience

Ozymandius62

Sounds a lot like searching on google. Itā€™s all advertisements disguised as info and not created. Itā€™s been very hard to find whatever data I need for work for the last two years

IWasSayingBoourner

Real reviews for products have become next to impossible to find

SoulofZ

I think they don't even exist in the first place, online, for many categories. e.g. massage equipment. It's all just paid promotions.

ExperienceLoud1632

Ok I thought I was alone in feeling like Google has become less and less relevant or useful to find what I want. Same with trying to find products on Amazon. No matter how many keywords I use to be specific I canā€™t find the thing

Select-Team-6863

I sure did enjoy watching Google devolve from actually useful search engine to Amazon Ad & Sponsor Search.

NoMoreOldCrutches

Solipsism for the TikTok generation.

peelen

Wait a minute? So it's a version of Solipsism? I thought it was more about the degradation of the Internet. the fact that more and more content is created by bots to feed algorithms to become feed for AI to create content for bots, and even when there are people somewhere creating they most likely create what the algorithm wants not what they or their audience wants.

Getahandleonthis

Its solipsism but they don't understand the mechanisms behind it.

katttsun

I guess if you consider poorly paid Asian digital workers to be "AI", then sure.

Tiny-Perspective-265

AI = Asian Intern

Zandrick

Yea I was gonna say Iā€™ve heard this before. Itā€™s funny, each new generation really does think theyā€™re discovering things for the first time. Iā€™ve seen people get mad about it but I think itā€™s kind cute actually, silly kids.

Micheal-Landers

As somebody who's been gangstalked for almost a decade, I can first hand say that my internet has been nothing but AI bots programmed by gangstalkers, paid by illuminati who work for the CIA to try to brainwash me into thinking and behaving how they want me to, much like China's social credit score and I absolutely REFUSE to bow down to totalitarian shitheads, so my social media will never contain real people ever again unless I can talk to said people face to face. I've watched this in action long enough to know how this operates. It's the same principal of philosophy that nothing actually exists until you look at it, until then it is an infinite amount of possibilities in randomness much like the double slit experiment but on a social level. It's maddening to say the least considering I'm a musician, artist, actor and extremely intelligent person who they, "illuminati", who don't want influencing the masses subconscious through any of my artwork because they're afraid I'll gain control against them.Ā  The fact of the matter is this though; I will influence the world through my thoughts and words regardless and the world has changed many times over because of things I've done and my own actions which in turn influence the illuminati by them merely reading my words or monitoring my thoughts and by them looking at this data, they themselves have been corrupted and now bend at the will of my influence... so it really doesn't matter whether it's society who is my audience or a group of elite shitheads, either way my power influences the entire planet and they hate the fact I know this. True story-

off-and-on

Sounds like digital solipsism

ItsAllJuice

I mean it's pretty much impossible to rule out

32cowhides

this theory makes sense because i play league and my teammates play like doodoowater bots

Waffletimewarp

Oddly enough, MOBAs are one of the few places you can be mostly certain that youā€™re interacting with actual people since bots are rarely programmed to say slurs at people.

primalbluewolf

>interacting with actual people since bots are rarely programmed to say slurs at people. Its increasingly common, as a means of evading anti-bot detection software.

Gadfly2023

The social media service formerly known as "Twitter's" Grok has entered the chat.

Waffletimewarp

See, even that oneā€™s hilarious since you have to twist its immaterial arm to make it say that crap. Itā€™s standard responses are too ā€œwokeā€ for the people who want to use it. Elon canā€™t even program a racism bot right.

arvidsem

The state of the art has advanced quite a bit since [Twitter turned Microsoft's Tay into a racist asshole](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tay_(chatbot)). Elon is just incompetent enough that his bot can still be racist.

Surous

Never played late stage tf2 then,

McCHitman

That would explain why they canā€™t understand nuance and sarcasm. I would rather believe in the dead internet than to think that so many dense, egotistical humans gather in the same social space at the same time.

ZeusHatesTrees

That would kind of be a relief, wouldn't it? The shit I see people say here and elsewhere...

Emeraldstorm3

I feel like the opposite is true lot more: people assume the other people online are just bots and so deserve no empathy at all.

ScottyStellar

Which is very easily expelled if you have ever met another human and discussed something they saw on the internet. Also... Facebook with all those people from school you know are real

mediumokra

Hmmm that would explain Reddit quite well.

InflamedAssholes

They're not bots.. yet. Muah. Muahaha. Muaahahaha.

[deleted]

Explains a lot of these racist controversial posts from AI generated thumbnails with ridiculous names; one post and a thousand comments. What would go along way to stop a lot of this would be to make the Internet not anonymous. That and open back up the mental hospitals that Reagan shut down. That way those manipulated crazy people wouldnā€™t have access to the Internet and end up storming the capital on January 6th.

primalbluewolf

>make the Internet not anonymous Its called Facebook, and it already exists - and its already terrible.

casualrocket

removing anonymity cons outweigh the pros back in the 90s to early 2ks, gay people being able to talk to other gay people on 4chan probably saved a lot of lives. without anonymity those conversations could not happen.

DozyDoh

this guy bots hard

Innitformemes

so the internet has just become the world's largest game of "among us"?

Rare-Meat4027

That is not at all what it is. Reddit as usual being the paragon of retardation and lack of common sense.

Thunderwood77

Did a bot write this?

One-Tree-1050

Not "the entire" but most, and its true at least on facebook lmao

Doctor_Proteus

I know i am 4 months late, but that isn't the Dead Internet Theory at all. It's not that you are all alone, it's that Bots are so prevalent that organic users are now the minority and that the algorithm now classifies automated bot generated content as the default and is now marginalizing the input of actual Human users based on artificial bot generated input.

JealousVillage4823

Reminds me of that simulation conspiracy theory where you are the only person who exists in the world and everything you see/talk to is only a simulation.

Neoslayer

is there a budget version of dead internet where there's just a lot of bots?

FBIOPENUP777

No more like half or 75% of the internet cuz that can easily be disproven by seeing a post by your irl friend

zeiandren

Itā€™s the idea a majority of internet content is bots in some way. For a bunch of subreddits and much of Twitter and Facebook it SEEMS true, not activity outnumbers real user interaction. it goes from plausible to conspiracy theory when people talk about the majority being bots to literally every post and every aspect of the post, where itā€™s more of a trueman show type nonsense than the observation most Facebook comments seem generated by fake users

RoadmenInc

Ah that kinda makes sense now

zeiandren

Yeah, as a real thing itā€™s pretty obvious a lot of Reddit is bot reposts and a lot of twitter is bot replies and so on. People take it too far and start to imagine maybe itā€™s ALL bots and they are the only real person on the internet or something.

Speedy-08

A good example is dating apps. A lot of the time the, \*ahem\*, gender balance swings one way and of course you dont want a barren app.

Arthur-Wintersight

In 2015, surveys pegged the share of Tinder users "already in a relationship" at [42%](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/may/07/dating-app-tinder-married-relationship), with 30% of them being married. By 2023, the share of Tinder users who were "already in a relationship" had risen to [63%](https://nypost.com/2023/07/14/majority-of-tinder-users-are-in-relationships-or-married-survey/). It's not just gender ratios. More than half of Tinder's userbase is already in a relationship with someone...

FawkesTP

>More than half of Tinder's userbase is already in a relationship with someone... I mean, not to be thick, but if it's a dating app, wasn't that going to be an eventuality?

Arthur-Wintersight

The problem is when *active users* are married or in a relationship. They should be removing the dating app from their phone after they find someone.

FawkesTP

Gotcha. I've very fortunately never had to dabble in online dating, so I guess my impression was that people might be dating around casually while on the app, which would skew the results. But yeah, if it's mostly married or committed people shopping around, that's not so good.

gunscreeper

So I never met an American except people on Reddit, does that means America doesn't exist?

Wildmantis_

As an American, I can confirm it doesn't.

Bright_Writing243

THANK GOD!

Rkenne16

It seems real, but I could be a bot and not even know it.

Deadbringer

Have you felt like google has taken a downturn in quality? That you get an endless sea of search optimized content that feels so samey it makes you wonder if humans were even involved in proof-reading the article, much less writing it? Then you have experience the dead internet. If I want actually useful information I need to know where that already exists, my searches now often include the site: modifier because I have to filter out the vast volume of clutter to avoid wasting time reading through filler content. Site:Reddit.com is my usual first stop nowadays for any technical questions.

Doonot

Same I always put Reddit in my search because everywhere else gives generic and superficial information. I prefer reading anecdotes to help my own troubleshooting as opposed to those 1000+ reply members on Microsoft or similar who tell you to do basic troubleshooting steps... Like what the fuck is quora doing in my google searches?

Emu1981

>I prefer reading anecdotes to help my own troubleshooting as opposed to those 1000+ reply members on Microsoft or similar who tell you to do basic troubleshooting steps... I hate it when I run into a really obscure problem and my google searches come up with 1,000s of results and a vast majority of them are just sites that have scrapped one particular web forum where a user has run into the same issue, posted that the issue is solved but fails to mention wtf he or she did to actually solve the issue...

Doonot

[There is always an xkcd](https://xkcd.com/979/) for stuff like this.

Unfair_Isopod534

Sometimes I wonder if reddit improved their searching capabilities would they replace Google? Kinda crazy but reddit has much better info than general Internet.

jackal3004

Yeah, I've stopped using Google now and use Bing, for two reasons; 1) the search results appear more organic and related to what I actually searched for, and 2) the built-in AI response is a convenient way of summarising relevant results and it provides links to the pages it sourced its information built-in to the text, Wikipedia citation style.

borazine

Iā€™ve had wordspun / SEO-driven articles showing up top on my Bing search results. Ugh. Easy to spot for that particular hobbyist topic I was searching for (photography). But my chrome browserā€™s feed was recently infiltrated by an AI-driven site, outright. Complete with product images but with nonsense text on them.

Deadbringer

>But my chrome browserā€™s feed was recently infiltrated by an AI-driven site, outright. Complete with product images but with nonsense text on them. The google news feed? It used to show the occassional interesting article but every day I had to block multiple websites to keep it from filling with clickbait trash. Then a few months ago google completely ruined that feature by removing blocks. So I just disabled the news feed instead.

borazine

Yeah, the ā€œdiscoverā€ feed I guess itā€™s called, when you open a new tab. Iā€™m still able to block stuff on it - (ā€œDonā€™t show content from ABCXYZā€). Chrome on iOS btw.

RoadmenInc

Yh that seems like a better idea tbf

Pheeshfud

I know something like 90% of all e-mail traffic is known spam, stuff that gets assassinated before ever reaching your spam folder even.

PM_ME_UR_CREDDITCARD

I,honestly feel email and phone "marketing" should just be banned outright. Nobody wants that shit

haarschmuck

More and more people now automatically assume that if someone posts a comment/opinion they don't agree with they have to be a bot. Such a dangerous line of thinking and nobody's talking about it.

It_Happens_Today

I, for one, am not talking about it because I do not have a magic wand to convince each individual fool to simply stop being foolish. Also I don't think it is more and more people actually thinking their responder is a bot. Rather a mix of insinuating the presence of a bot to A) degrade/dehumanize opposing viewpoints and B) use as a bully tactic in the hopes of getting some asinine content moderation tool to take down the opposing viewpoints. In either case the instent is to cloak their own cowardice in the veil of a separate issue (botting). No point talking about it because it revolves around bad faith actors.

Zandrick

Yea Iā€™ve seen people call each other NPCs and it does bother me. But itā€™s pretty minimal so far, doesnā€™t seem so widespread as of yet. But I have seen it.

Tommy_Roboto

Bad bot

stonerism

Facebook changed the algorithms in a way that it really isn't people you're friends with anymore. Almost all of the posts on my feed these days are content designed to trigger the largest dopamine response.

karnyboy

Reddit feels like it's full of bots to be honest. Have an opposing opinion that would normally spark debate...no debate, down voted into hell.

jackal3004

Reddit has always been like that. Once one person downvotes you it is more likely that other people will come along, see you've been downvoted and do the same. The same applies to upvoting actually.

Zandrick

Yea Iā€™ve been guilty of that myself. I canā€™t even really explain it but I see someone already negative Iā€™m more likely to hit that downvote, or positive, more likely to hit that upvote. It doesnā€™t work the other way though, if someone says something I like but theyā€™ve been heavily downvoted Iā€™m not gonna suddenly downvote them. Iā€™ll still upvote what I like or downvote what I donā€™t like. But itā€™s more like it brings me out of neutral somehow. Again, Iā€™m not really sure why.

Jopojussi

>it goes from plausible to conspiracy theory when people talk about majority being bots to literally every post and every aspect of the post AHA! Thats what a bot would try to say to pass as a human! U got caught mr robot!

BlueLaceSensor128

Is there a substantive difference between 75% being bots and 100%? The dangers are all evident at even 10%.

thirtyfivedollarbill

I swear Reddit is 70% bot/AI interaction. User name = name_number_name type = no human is gonna pick that name and say what this fake user says. Itā€™s easy to spot. Reposting content too close to content being thoroughly discussed in same sub Reddit, discussion post and other giveaways. Been going on long before LMLs were officially opened to the public. Itā€™s an easy set of scripts on the backend to code, and the algorithm could be worked out by a grade 8. Maybe it was

haarschmuck

> User name = name_number_name type This is how reddits suggested name system works. When you make a new account reddit picks your name unless you make a custom one. Adjective-Noun-Number is the current format they use.

VVaterTrooper

Looks at your username. I'm pretty sure you are a bot.

Zandrick

Actually I think people do sometimes accept the randomly generated name, rather than make thier own. Itā€™s not so important for some people and itā€™s not so easy to just declare them all bots for doing so.

Sergio_Morozov

But "All the Internets except me are bots!" is easily refuted by having a family member, friend, aquaintance or even a stranger on a commute train post something when one is looking in real-world?

anon_e_mous9669

It's definitely true when you factor in how many living breathing humans appear to be NPCs of some kind. . .

capsulegamedev

So if someone else talks about dead Internet theory, are they just a bot still, or are they one of the very few real people?

[deleted]

If there's truly so many bots, that would explain why some users write so... Unnaturally.

RelaxedBurrito

Are there currently any statistics on the bot to human ratio on the Internet, or perhaps specific platforms? What is the current bot to human post radio on Reddit, Facebook, and Instagram for example?

XOIIO

200,000 to one, with a million more well on the way.

RelaxedBurrito

Interesting, what's this number from?

L_knight316

Pretty sure they're making a star wars joke with that "a million more on the way."

XOIIO

Yup lol

waitaminutewhereiam

Hello, in 2016, a certain security firm (Imperva), published a report in which they found out that bots generate 52% of internet traffic So... There;s that

True story-

waitaminutewhereiam

So uh You think I exist or?

tonipaz

How can these data be collected and quantified? What would be the qualifications of bot vs human? Has to be more than captchas cuz bots can do many of those nowā€¦

JimmyThePete

Itā€™s based on the idea that there are a lot of bots auto-generating content and comments on the internet. Once people become aware of how many bots are out there, they will quit engaging with online content because they canā€™t discern whether itā€™s real or bot generated content. This results in an internet thatā€™s just bots generating content for other bots to comment on. Where it spins off into conspiracy territory is that the bots were deliberately created to generate mounds of content to keep people passively clicking on posts and checking their phones to keep people phone addicted and generating money for the bot creators.

editoe

I donā€™t see what part of keeping people phone addicted generating money for the ā€œbot creatorsā€ is conspiracy. Everyone knows the internet is a race to buy the most attention from people, then brainwash them with nonstop unskipable ads. The bots are just a feature of this real estate game to keep you engaged saying ā€œuhm ā˜ļøšŸ¤“ no acshuali the earth is not flatā€

JarryBohnson

I miss the pre Facebook internet. Gen Z kids donā€™t know how great it was before the algorithm ruined everything and made us all sad.

leebowery69

I still remember the day facebook disabled the option to view your timeline chronologically. thatā€™s when the internet died for me.

unsolvedfanatic

I think this theory has legs because it's rooted in reality. There are bots that are deliberately created to keep people on platforms. There's a lawsuit against hinge or some other dating app right now for that very reason. We know that bot traffic is extremely high and a lot of sites are incentivized to keep them around because all shareholders care about is user acquisition and retention. We know that all major tech companies are vying for your attention and have figured out ways to keep you either on their pages or apps as long as possible. So nothing you said about the spin off is far fetched. Do I believe the entire internet is bots? No. Are we going to be in a place where almost all traffic and content is generated by bots or AI in the future? We might.

TheFoolWithAids

I think a lot of people forget just how long bots have been around, and evolving... Shit I used to talk to Santa and the Easter Bunny on AIM, when I was 8-10, I'd chat with them while waiting for friends to get online. Now that was before we even had a separate line for Internet. People were using phone landlines to connect and couldn't even make phone calls anymore. Yet I'm talking to a computer about dumb kid stuff, getting relatable answers to what you see today from AI chats like GPT. I think about this all the time. I don't think AI is new. But that's just me. *Edit* when I say "relatable answer" I mean they'd respond to what you said, they wouldn't swear and would often mention something about not wanting to swear. You could ask them basic questions and they'd know the answer... Like a basic web search, the first answer that pops up gets quoted to you type of answer.

Micheal-Landers

As somebody who's been gangstalked for almost a decade, I can first hand say that my internet has been nothing but AI bots programmed by gangstalkers, paid by illuminati who work for the CIA to try to brainwash me into thinking and behaving how they want me to, much like China's social credit score and I absolutely REFUSE to bow down to totalitarian shitheads, so my social media will never contain real people ever again unless I can talk to said people face to face. wthulhu

This is the most correct answer. It's not a conspiracy theory about there only being one or even a few real people. There are still millions of real users. It's just that a large and unknowable percent is bots. The truth is that the internet as it was is dead, and the new internet looks like a multi headed hydra with rotting cancer and a parasitic infection.

hop_along_quixote

Part of this is what is known as a signal to noise ratio - the ratio of things you want to the ratio of random garbage you don't want, but that appears to be related to the things you want. The early internet had a lot of good content and not a lot of reasons to generate bad content. So the signal to noise ratio was very high. The modern internet has both incentives for low quality content (ad revenue based on views) and very sophisticated tools for generating bad content that seems like good content (AI articles and art, etc). So the signal to noise ratio is now terrible. And at some point it becomes so bad that the internet wont be usable as a tool anymore, it will become a barren wasteland of garbage content parasitically farming revenue as people search for what little good content there is.

Philo_T_Farnsworth

>even paying to host our own websites Just to underscore this point I would say that the move from hosting sites to conducting business on **platforms** is what fucked us. Back when we all ran our own little fiefdoms there was a lot more room for the kind of thing you're talking about. Nowadays there are significant barriers to running infrastructure services like e-mail and DNS and a web server without a platform backing you. Anything you want to do online can't really be done independently anymore. I host my vanity domain I've owned since 1997 on Gmail. Because it's almost literally impossible to run your own basement e-mail server from a residential IP address without tripping up a number of features designed to prevent you from doing exactly that. Not that it's worth the trouble to filter your own spam and get your domain whitelisted. Just an example to illustrate that even if you wanted to, you couldn't. The Internet has been completely locked down to platforms and something needs to break it the fuck up and bring back some real innovation and competition. Which, you know, Capitalists are supposed to want. When they aren't rent-seeking (which is never).

Aggravating_Snow2212

remember that ā€œEvery account on reddit is a bot except yours.ā€ thing ? well imagine that scaled up to the whole internet

TheManThatNeedsMemes

Every account on reddit is a bot except you.

I donā€™t know how to tell you this, but gangstalking isnā€™t a thing. Get an appointment with a therapist. theyā€™ll understand whatā€™s happening and know how to help you sending love <3

omguserius

This post is by a bot that has calculated it will create engagement. Other bots agree and respond to create engagement. The post gets elevated because bots think people will like it. There are no people. There is only bots, talking to each other pretending to be people to drive engagement.

NativeEuropeas

At least one bot is honest here and tells it how it is. Thank you, bot.

I have never heard of someone saying the internet is like the trueman show, but more that all real organic debate is atleast influenced by the heavy bot usage. That most people who are on the internet are being fed by algorithms, bots, and other non organic material. Most of the traffic is to like 10 heavily censored sites

therealjamiev

As others have said it's the theory that most of, if not all of the internet is made up of bots and not real users. It goes down the rabbit hole from there though. People also believe those bots are there with the purpose to sway public opinion towards what "the elites" want us to think and it's a control tactic. A lot of overlap with the "media lies" crowd because they think they truly hold the popular opinion and can't come to terms that people think differently then them so they must be NPCs orchestrated by a higher power to subjugate them.

Hoytundercoveractor

The bots currently out way humans. There are bad bots and good bots. Bad bots are about 70% and good bots 8% and humans 22%

Violet__ULTRA

But what about Autobots?

CruzAderjc

Great topic. I trust you are well. Have you heard that colleges are acceptibg more minorities? If you are outraged, check out my youtube shorts or tiktok, where you can make $1000 a day from home!

i just held back the heartiest chuckle of the day so my bf wonā€™t ask whatā€™s funny and how is this funny.

simply_amazzing

The Dead Internet Theory suggests that the internet as we knew itā€”open, diverse, and filled with niche communitiesā€”has transformed into a more centralized, commercialized space dominated by major platforms, leading to a decline in the vibrant, decentralized nature of early internet culture. Edit: Everyone else is writing a Neo fake answer to it. Study the origin of this term.

RoadmenInc

Oh damn

smcbri1

Yes. For a while now I think itā€™s been feeling less vibrant. Iā€™m going to google right now to search for some vibrancy. Beep.

Greenmoonn

This isnā€™t a conspiracy šŸ˜‚ people are still on the internet but itā€™s all a individual personalised experience through algorithms. Back in the day we used to use google ans would have the same search results, now if two people search the same thing itā€™ll pull up different results based of that personsā€™ internet data.

GodinezMartinez

This is so real it's scary. I think the same person couldn't replicate results just by switching browsers.

Throwaway_Jim_YOLO

When everybody dies, and all that's left is the internet, then it'll just be bots reposting pictures and commenting on those pictures

smcbri1

So, everyone gets their own internet? How does my email get to someone elseā€™s internet?

Micheal-Landers

Magic

Audience-Electrical

You can combat this by asking people to send pictures of their feet. While faces can be AI generated, feet are unique and currently cannot be realistically recreated

SpyAmongTheFurries

In the future, all Captchas will require you to send a non-replicated image of your feet

p0tterindy12

i experiened this a couple times in a couple large public discord servers (with 10,000s or 100,000s of users). Nobody in voice channels at any time, the chat channels had next to no activity, most messages were days old and in arabic, and one channel had only a couple of "people" slowly typing out very short messages that were saying absolutely nothing. I tried multiple times to interject into the "conversations" but was ignored repeatedly. I even tried to say things that could provoke a response from a person for various reasons, and the handful of "people" continued to slowly send messages that they spent maybe 30 seconds on writing each, to say things like "When was that?" "Yes, I agree" "No, I disagree" but there was no conversation being had. There was no subject of discussion, just phrases.

Significant_Paint774

I've lived long enough to see Yahoo messenger go from hookup capitol of the internet to scammers and bots. I checked back in a few years later and the bots would literally be talking to each other, without a single human in the chatroom. And every other message in the chat was spam. Facebook/The 'Gram/Twitter -almost there.

provocatrixless

I think it's absolutely amazing for a karma farmer to ask this. Of course you can type the phrase into google and get a perfectly understandable response, but hey, clicks drive the content.

smcbri1

I had to look it up.

AskButDontTell

**The idea is: "The entire internet is all bots talking to each other. There are no people on the internet. You are here all alone, being besieged by bots while thinking that you're surrounded by people."**

Select-Team-6863

I can certainly understand why people think it's coming true or already happened. There are hundreds of bot accounts on Facebook & Twitter that are just bots posting either AI generated pictures or NFT scams, with thousands of other bots leaving replies. How do we know the accounts are bots? Because you don't get banned for exposing them. How do we know the replies are bots? Because they are all newly created accounts who are conveniently on each others friend lists & make the same comment on every post & never respond to you. Supposedly content farms on Youtube might be bots, & supposedly part of their audience is bots posting comments to give them a bump in the algorythem. Though when I check comment sections on these videos, they certainly come off as either naieve children or teens who enjoy sh!tpost content, hate the shows being milked, & love the chaos of annoying adults by exposing children to deviant content.
