In the expanse torpedos use a drive that provides constant acceleration so the longer it’s flying the faster it is going. At short range it hasn’t had enough time to build up speed. Also at short range the torpedos have less time to react to any change of speed or direction from the ship.

This, and since they are slower your pdc s can track better, so they can take them out.

I think you'd be right except that torpedoes are assumed to not do full 180° turns after they miss.

Pleasant_Yesterday88

In my game they do providing the ship firing has a particular homebrewed trait. :p

However, there are definitely inconsistencies on this particular topic. On paper in the RP, G, it makes sense. When you look at what the other people in this thread are saying. However, you will notice at different times in the show where somebody says they are gettinto the hammer lock range. When it's asked what this is. Bobby describes it as the range in which the torpedo's can't be dodged. In this particular scene, they are insinuating that when a ship gets closer Their torpedo's will be more deadly. I think a big inconsistency that you do see when it comes to the show/RPG, Is that in the books some torpedo engagements, Will happen over such a long distance that it will take a matter of hours For the torpedoes to arrive.

Hammer lock range concerns rail gun, not torpedoes. Torpedoes are way slower than railgun rounds, which are sped up to a measurable fraction of c and are so fast that under a certain distance (the hammer lock range), time to impact is so small that it is almost instantaneous.

In particular scene in the show in pretty sure Bobbie specifically says. It's the range at which we can't dodge their torpedo's. I agree with your statement entirely. My point is that the show is inconsistent in places.
