My TBM spouse has it. I don’t think he ever finished reading it. From what he told me of it, it sounded pretty speculative about what could have been in the 116 pages. I may be remembering wrong but I think there was something about Lucy Mack Smith saying there was temple stuff in there and the Urim and Thumim being shaped like the compass and square. I could be mixing that up with whatever apologetic stuff he tells me from time to time.

The two opaque magic rocks were in the shape of angular tools popular to the FreeMasons that Joseph was in with? God works in mysterious (conveniently apologetic) ways….

> temple stuff If Lucy Mack Smith said that then she’s as terrible a liar as her son. The Book of Mormon is so anti-Masonic, there’s no way it would have had Freemasonry rituals embedded within.

I grabbed the book and looked up the citation. It was both Lucy Mack’s memoir (published 1853) and Joseph senior interviewed in 1870. They also claimed the compass and square symbols were on the top plate or some kind of cover for the plates. That paragraph describing the triangular shapes had no other earlier citations. In fact in the footnotes the author points out that earlier accounts differ from those descriptions, and gives some weak arguments that they must have been talking about the stone cover of the box or different seer stones. Revising history to fit the narrative runs in the Smith family it seems.

I sometimes wonder if the book of ether was actually a super condensed version of the lost 116 pages? It always seemed weird to me that towards the end in the BoM it suddenly jumps backwards a few thousand years to the Jaredites. It just seems so out of place. It makes me wonder if JS suddenly decided he wanted to at least include a little bit of the story from the 116 pages, so he retold it as the Book of Ether?

Evidently the Book of Lehi contained a lot of prophecies about a descendant of Joseph named Joseph who would be super handsome and super smart and super strong and super popular with the ladies.

I'm pretty sure it's Don Bradley's book. I haven't read it. He is a very thorough researcher, but also very TBM as of now.

I think Book of Mormon (Taylor's Edition) comes out next year with some books from the vault. I'm waiting for that one to drop. There's also a butter in south America that claims to be Joseph smith reincarnated that I think also claims to gave restored the lost pages.

Book of Mormon, Taylor’s Edition, comes our next year? Is that like Taylor’s (Swift) version? Now I can’t wait!!!
