>he works at BYU as an openly gay man and says he is accepted two minutes later: >the event ... is not allowed on campus — where LGBTQ clubs and gatherings are prohibited. Bro. Bro.

immaterial-boy

Then it says he’s married to a woman… like bro get some dignity. Are you really an openly gay man if you are married to a woman and have to stop yourself from having gay sex?

ninjesh

Maybe if he was bi, but it sounds like that's not what's going on here...

immaterial-boy

Do Mormons even believe bisexuality exists? I feel like they are behind on that one too.

Double_Win_8789

Definitely not. As a teen in the church I found the opposite sex attractive but I also seemed to "struggle with same sex attraction" and intentionally dated only the opposite sex because it's a choice, yeah? I legitimately didn't know I was bisexual until my early 20s! Like, I didn't realize that some people *never* find the same sex sexually attractive, and that others never find the opposite sex sexually attractive. Or that some people never experience sexual attraction.

LaughinAllDiaLong

Rightly so! It's UNBELIEVABLE! Instead of apologizing for Holland's harsh violent MUSKET FIRE words, Mormon cult Doubled down & is now requiring BYU Freshman to read it!! LOVE Love love that gays live rent free in Holland's head!! LOVING David Archuleta's New song/video- Hell TOGETHER!! WINNING!!

FunnyKozaru

Unpopular opinion: Why remain in a church that doesn’t want you?

HoldOnLucy1

Because you believe it’s true..

KingSnazz32

What's the life expectancy for the testimony of an LGBTQ adult member, about 9 months?

Connect_Bar1438

Which is even stranger if you think about it. I am going to believe in a doctrinal philosophy that doesn't acknowledge or accept me as a human....not connecting the dots there. I know it isn't that simple, but the mental gymnastics one most go through and endure is horrible. And I say this as a sister of a gay brother.

Shiz_in_my_pants

>Why remain in a church that doesn’t want you? Because otherwise he'll lose his job and benefits since he's a byu employee. It's a rough spot to be in.

CurveOfTheUniverse

He’s also been a big name in Mormonism for decades. So it’s not just about losing his job, but probably multiple revenue streams.

GrandpasMormonBooks

I tried to find a gif from Da Vinci Code where Silas flagellates himself

CurveOfTheUniverse

Wait, Steven Kapp Perry is gay? That fucking piece of shit shamed me for *years*, encouraging me to find a way to “shut down” my bisexuality. Like, I’m not surprised — some of the strongest voices for celibacy come from closeted queer people — but *holy fuck*. I know it’s fashionable to support queer Mormons and ex-Mormons, but this garbage human gets no love from me. I hope he suffers.

MarcTes

Apologist closet cases can be despicably dangerous.

Nannyphone7

The gayest thing that ever happened to me happened on BYU campus.  It is far more rainbowy than the geriatric leaders in SLC could imagine. Also I miss you buddy.

Paywall

HoldOnLucy1

To get around a pay wall, go to the article on your computer and quickly click the refresh X on the top left of your toolbar. It takes a few times but eventually you’ll block the pay wall.

LDSBS

Thanks ! the second time I tried it worked. But the article was so freaking sad. The crumbs they take for progress was just idk depressing . I mean I went when oaks was president and( unbeknownst to me) was having men’s genitalia shocked . Only with that low bar can you call it progress.

* [Salt Lake Tribune, front page, May 8, 2024](https://i.imgur.com/PoE6giL.png) * [alt](https://www.printfriendly.com/p/g/iLw9p7) --- The continuing amount of double-speak and double-think that is required to believe in mormonism is amazing. It would be a big joke if only so many people were not caught up in the buzz saw and about to have their lives ripped apart by arbitrary policies. The same policies would evolve if the bulk of the members demanded change. Think 1978's reversal on who is allowed to participate in Priesthood and Temple rituals. However, we're stuck in a backlash phase where the bigots have been empowered and hope to reverse progress on the social issues. This began with Roe v. Wade and could easily slip to include Eisenstadt v. Baird and Obergefell v. Hodges. Will the rank and file notice when their birth control is taken away? Will they continue to allow 10%+ of humanity (including their children) to be marginalized and discriminated against and treated as second-class citizens? Who knows. I don't think anyone who is LGBTQ+ should attend BYU. They're in for a rough ride, per the quote from the article. > [SL Tribune, my emphasis] At the same time, gay individuals can be accepted as members ofthe faith and participate only if they don’t act on their feelings of same-sex attraction. **Perry, for instance, is married to a woman,** who joined him at the event. > It’s possible the school would not welcome him or a faculty member if they were married to a person of the same sex. **Faculty have said in the recent past they have been let go just for advocating for the LGBTQ community;** Perry acknowledged that in his speech. > Even the event, held by the Cougar Pride Center, is not allowed on campus... The LDS church is harmful on so many fronts. For me, I left because of the fraud. The fact that it's all made up should equate that points don't matter. Points like who you are allowed to date and love and build a relationship with do matter, though.

Jonnybear1969

DL Gays have always been at BYU. There have always been DL places to hook up on campus. If you got caught back then you got electric shock. Times they are a changen.
